LG BD610 Blu-Ray Disc Player

LG BD610 Blu-Ray Disc Player
  • DVD up-scaling to 1080p
  • SIMPLINK connectivity
  • USB 2.0 connection, 1 x HDMI output
  • Plays back BD-R/RE, DVD, DVD-R/RW, CD-R/RW disc formats
  • Dolby Digital/Digital Plus/True HD and DTS-HD audio

I have been looking for a "bare-bones" blu-ray dvd player that doesn't try to connect to the internet everytime I inserted a blu-ray dvd. This unit doesn't even provide such a connection in the first place great if you just want to get straight to the movie. To me this even speeds up the loading time because most players pause to ask you if you would like to connect to the internet? & I have to answer "NO" with the remote every time a new disc is loading. Don't get me wrong...there is nothing bad about streaming video or the other options on the newer players,(I have one too) but it's harder to find a basic player these days with blu-ray.

Buy LG BD610 Blu-Ray Disc Player Now

I bought LG's BD610 Blu-ray Player at Walmart on Black Friday for $50. The first few blu-rays I tried were fine but over the past few months I have noticed the discs skipping (image jumps to black then resumes) and now the movie cutting off completely. At first I thought it was the discs themselves, since the player is brand new, but the issue has persisted and gotten worse with all discs I tried so it is definitely the LG player. The message "invalid format" often appears on the screen with some static-y noises and the image will cut off and on until the entire player powers down... this happens with both blu-ray and dvds and most often when the movie is paused or has been running for several minutes. I also own a 42" LG 42LK450 42-Inch 1080p 60 Hz LCD HDTV so I assume there is no compatibility issue there. I've only had my LG blu-ray player for 3 months (and probably only watched 15 movies on it) and it is completely out of service. I've contacted LG and hope that I will get a replacement/refund on this shoddy product.

EDIT: LG has a 90 day warranty that I missed by a few days. I spoke with Walmart's manager and they exchanged my player for the same model. I brought it home and it's having the exact same problem. SAVE YOUR MONEY AND LOOK ELSEWHERE, LG BD610 IS PURE CRAP.

I have had this blu-ray player for over 5 months now. Have had no problems what so ever with the device playing discs. Works great, have watched many dvds and blu-rays on it -over 100with no problems. My only complaint is some of the dvd's I play say wide-screen but come up full screen or to a square in the center of the screen(42" lcd tv) not sure what that's about. But over all besides some of the major complaints on reviews it is a very good and cheap blu-ray player. Paid less than $40 on sale at Wal-Mart. All in all you get what you pay for with electronics, I don't expect this to last for ever for the price but it works........

Want LG BD610 Blu-Ray Disc Player Discount?

I've only had this player for a couple of days, but I'm very pleased with it so far. It does what it's supposed to do, i.e, play your Blu Ray and DVD discs. I've heard a lot of complaints about Blu Ray discs taking a long time to load, but this one does the job pretty quickly. The USB port is very handy, and the player supports a wide range of video and photo formats. It does not have internet capabilities, however, so if that is a concern for you, pass this one by. For me, however, this player was an ideal choice. When I saw it for $58, I couldn't pass it up!

I was able to pick this up @ one of the black friday sales at Target, if I remember right. I didn't pay more than 50 bux so, I thought I was gettin a good deal, until I got it home and wanted to play some of my older SVCD's and such on it. Sadly, I was not able to play any of them and, it's doesn't read video files from the USB stick either. Also, it's not network or, WIFI enabled.

All that said, it does ok for a base model blueray player. However, since it was an LG, a company known for the computer competency and phone craftsmanship, I expected something a little better out of it.

I will be replacing this as soon as I can with a higher end model. Probably a philips model as, I have had 2 DVD players and, have not been disappointed.

UPDATE: still using this player and, still somewhat disappointed with it. Again, it does play blue ray disks fine but, it's for sure not the best quality player and, I can't help but wonder if I am "missing" some features not having online connectivity with it. Still doing research to find another one.
