I purchased this unit to replace a Sony 400 Disc Explorer that died after 16 months. I hooked this up via HDMI with a DVI to HDMI Adapter. The picture is sharp with excellent color. I have yet to see any jagged lines. It certainly has a more crisp picture than the Sony ever did. The remote is well laid out and easy to use. The only qibble I have is that I had to set the HDMI video setting to a value other than auto for the picture to show up. This is not specified in the manual and it took me a little while to figure out, but it was a minor issue. Other than that, the instructions were very well laid out. I have been very impressed with the unit thus far. I will definitely consider Harman Kardan in the future! Buy it!

I bought this for use in my home theatre set up because of its top-rated status by Consumer Reports. I have it connected via HDMI through my Yamaha RX-V2700 receiver, along with a Samsung Blu-Ray player, HD PVR and a Yamaha CD player (everything into the receiver, one HDMI cable out to my Samsung 50 in plasma TV). It does an excellent job of up converting standard movies, (my display is 720p or 1080 i), and beats the up conversion of the Samsung Blu-Ray.

The part you don't often hear about is its excellent audio quality. This beats any CD player I have ever heard the sound coming through my Harman Kardon HK18 speakers is superb. For serious audiophiles, it may be worth it for the sound quality alone.

I love this DVD player! I upgraded from a Sony, and the upconverted DVD picture on my HD Panasonic plasma is almost as good as HD itself. Great design, picture, and sound quality. If you want a better DVD player, you will probably need to visit a high end audio/video dealer and look to spend much more.

This is a great player for the price, and I highly recommend it for someone looking for excellent quality without paying a lot of money.

Since everyone else has reviewed the video capabilities, I thought I would comment on the audio. I bought this from Harman Audio direct off of E bay. I paid less than $100 for a refurbished unit.

I bought this primarily because I wanted an affordable unit to place in my bedroom and allow me to play SACDs. This also plays DVD-Audio in addition to the regular play of CDs and DVDs.

I hooked this up to the 6 channel input of my small home theater receiver. When I put in my first SACD, just for a test run, I had to play the whole album all the way through. I was overjoyed and so impressed by the quality of sound reproduction. The HK sound is warm, lively and authentic. I mean that a grand piano sounds like a grand piano. Instruments sound like they do in real life. You can hear both the nuances of the music and get the correct tonal reproduction at the same time. I am using super tweeters in line with my regular speakers. Its a rare feat for a player in this price range, originally selling for about $399 to sound this good.

My comparison units, which I also own are a Denon 3910 and a Sony SCD-XA9000ES. The HK is 1/10th the price of the Sony and I have a slight preference for the HK.

The unit also plays DVD-Audio, another high resolution format and the sound is the same; equally impressive. With CD reproduction, the realism and details were still there and it lacked the usual digital edgy sound that is typical of most CD players.

I also have the coaxial digital out hooked up to my receiver, through which I can get both CD and DVD sound. It sounds equally wonderful whether using the analog outs or the digital out.

Each night before I go to bed, I listen to one album at the end of the day. It is a truly satisfying experience. This has to be one of the least known best buys out there.

This player is a distinct bargain for audio and video lovers alike. Your movies and CD collection will be rendered with rich dynamics and excellent surround sound decoding. Very Pleased !!!
