It can work as a VERY simple ereader with free TXT files from Project Gutenberg, Archive.org and the like, since you can create bookmarks that will keep your place when you need to do something else. Not the best ereader, but it can certainly do in a pinch. It could also be used to store grocery lists or something, I'm sure.
It's VERY picky about movie formats. It does NOT play MP4 files, or WMV. Another review says it plays FLV files, but I haven't tried that. Though it says it accepts AVI files, it doesn't play ALL AVI files. I've found that it works best if I first convert the desired movie to WMV format with WinFF (a free program) and then use the Trio's software to convert the WMV to an AVI file that it will play. A bit annoying... but it does work. (The software, btw, is included on the device itself, in a folder called "Tools")
You can use either earphones/buds or the internal speaker to listen to music and video. It's a bit 'tinny', but not too bad. If you're expecting HD quality video with surround sound audio, it's not. But it gets the job done, and decently.
Since it can utilize .lrc files, you can watch/sing along with your favorite songs. I don't really care, but it's a nice feature to have.
Unlike many players, you can also create PLAYLISTS. I don't know how many players I've gone through that only let you play by artist and/or album! This one allows you (with the included software) to create a playlist of your favorite songs.
For "applications", it includes a stopwatch and a calculator. There is also a simple calendar that just lets you see what day of the week a certain day falls on: like the default Windows calendar.
The voice recorder is "okay". If all you want is a simple memo, it'll be fine. But the microphone clearly isn't the greatest.
I'm not sure about the battery life, but for travel you might want to invest in something like Amazon Kindle 2 (2nd Generation) USB Car Charger, USB Wall / Travel Charger, ... (although advertised for "Kindle", it should work to charge any USB device).
Besides English, you can switch the interface language to Traditional or Simplified Chinese, Japanese, Korean, French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Dutch, and Italian.
This product clearly tries very hard to be an iPod replacement. Having never had the newest iPods, I can't really say if it succeeds or not. But, despite the quirks, if you're looking for a fairly decent media player that will accept microSD cards, you could do a whole lot worse at $40.I bought the Mach Trio 2800 because I cannot afford an Ipod right now. After receiving the player, I charged it up and started to try out all of the different features. I was really surprised.
Setting up the time and date were easy enough.
The sample videos were great. My granddaughter really enjoys watching them. They are very clear and the color is pretty good.
It took a while before I was able to figure out how to download pictures on it but once I got the hang of it, there were no more problems.
I tried to download a movie onto the player but I guess I am going to have to convert it. I wish downloading movies were easier but for the price, it is not so bad.
One thing they need to improve on is the sound. You almost have to hold the player to your ear to hear what is being said. Head phones really improve the quality.
Downloading songs is very easy. I have Windows Media Player on my computer and adding songs to this player is very easy and quick.
All in all, I am very pleased with the Mach Trio 2800. I would recommend this item to anyone looking to buy an affordable little media player.I bought this for my girl for Christmas and I must say that overall it is a decent machine. What you have to realize is that you get what you pay for and because of this, it is a bit difficult to get movies on the unit. MP3's are very easy to put on especially if you have them on your PC already. Just connect the unit and drag and drop them on the unit either by using the WMP windows media player or by opening the files through my computers. Putting movies on them is a bit more difficult. The unit says it supports AVI's but in reality you have to convert them to FLV's but using an FLV converter. Koyote free FLV converter is the one I use and works really well. You can use it to download file from you tube as well as other sites. Basically you download whatever it is to your computer and then convert it using the FLV converter. Battery life is good, had a full battery, and my girl watched the entire Garfield 2 movie, some other youtube clips and listened to MP3 and she still had 1/2 battery life left on it. You use alot less battery if just listening to music so I would have to say it has decent battery life. My daughter thought that this was better then the IPOD as the screen is a bit larger and you can adjust the screen brightness. The headphones are cheap and so I would buy my own. The tech support site on the manufacturers website is a bit useless and if you have issues you may have to email them. Again you get what you pay for.I came across these mp3 players the day before Thanksgiving when all the big sales were going on. Walgreens had them for $19.99 on a one day sale so I bought two of them. Even though they were cheap, I checked the reviews before buying them to see how they held up. I didn't expect much after reading all the bad feedback these devices recieved but for the price I just considered them as one less Christmas present to worry about. I have to say that the reviews I have read don't do this player justice. These turned out to be really good mp3 players. The touchscreen is very response. The interface is easy to use. The music library is well organized into folders like they should be and easy to navigate. One thing I was especially impressed with was the 5 band equalizer which is very effective in tweaking the sound when listening to music. Picture quality was good. I didn't mess with any videos but the demos already on it looked OK. All in All I was very pleased considering the small price I paid for two good quality mp3 players. Now I know that there are bad apples in every bunch but if you get a good one I think you'll be pleased.

A good little mp3/video player with a few things thrown in there for what I figure only for the hell of it.This thing has a few hiccups in it, and a few design flaws but it gets the job done. It has two earphone jacks so you and a friend can listen in, and even comes with a pair that's probably worth 5 ~ 10 bucks(gets the job done but you can get better ones almost anywhere). Also comes with a usb cord which to me makes this package a great deal. Also the capability to expand it's memory with an SD micro card should make anyone who needs more than 4 gigs happy(though for me 4 gigs is more than enough).
The biggest hiccup is the touch screen at first DOES NOT want to work! As soon as you get it go to system settings(bottom right) and then calibration(middle) and calibrate it a few times, over the first couple weeks I had to calibrate it a few times here and there but now it works perfectly. Since some buttons like shuffle are VERY small, you should do this ASAP!
The mp3 player part of it is pretty good, making a playlist is annoying(you gotta go through the player and push a couple buttons, and it can get annoying if the touch pad isn't wanting to work). It's easier to go in when you put the mp3's in to just put them into folders. When you want to select a song, it has a scroll bar, however on the top and bottom it has arrows that are just for show which is counter intuitive when you push those expecting the selection to go up or down and nothing happens, this was very annoying and something that should have been put in and will take a little bit to get used to as selecting a song is annoying by itself. It does have a speaker on the outside but the sound quality is bad, don't use it unless you have to.
The video player is a alright, a bit to get used to because you'll have to transcode anything. One tip I learned was to use Any Video Converter, the free version works better than anything on the device and for the least amount of space. Once it works, it's fine. I've had to problems with it and I've watched a couple movies on it, glad that this feature is on here.
For other apps it has a calender which is alright but you can't put any memo's on it, it's basically just for show besides the fact you can change the date with it. Second comes the stopwatch which is basic besides it has the ability to save up to five times, so if your running laps you can see your time on up to five laps. It's has a little notebook, so you can type stuff into it, which is okay, but I'm probably not going to use it(you can 'draw' a letter and it'll type it, but you have to draw it a certain way or it'll guess, and it's never guessed the right letter for me). It has an ebook reader, but only reads .txt files, and a recorder which is okay but it's nothing more than a memo taker. Lastly you can put photos in it, although I've honestly never tried this part.
I was searching for a cheap mp3 player that worked. What I got was amazing for the price I saw some others that just played music and needed outside memory. The only reason this doesn't have 5 stars is because it should have a had a couple features(like the arrows with the scroll bar) that would have prevented frustration and make it a great product for the money they want for it.
