If you're buying Boxee because you need an HDTV tuner to watch over-the-air (OTA) television, it is FANTASTIC. It works really well with the antenna of your choice. You might think the $99 is a bit steep for a tuner, but considering that I can't assemble a computer this small with a built-in tuner for the same price, I think it is very good deal.
If you're buying Boxee because you want an internet streaming device, you should know that its streaming channels are limited. If Netflix and Vudu are all you need (and for many, it is all they need) then you are set. If you want Hulu or Amazon Instant, they're not available. You may want to consider a Roku. Roku has all three. Boxee does have a streaming YouTube channel though (Roku doesn't) and it also has DLNA capability (similar to Apple's AirPlay) for all of your in-house streaming needs (Roku doesn't have this either). Oh, and there is that whole HDTV tuner for live broadcasts which Roku also doesn't have. The Cloudee channel is also unique to Boxee. For me, even though the choice of streaming channels are limited, the DLNA capability is a huge selling point.
If you're buying Boxee for its cloud-based DVR, you need to keep in mind that it uses the HDTV tuner and your internet connection to receive then record the programs you have selected to record. There is also a tiered system of use. Most people will pay the monthly fee to use the feature as much as they want.
The cloud-based DVR works well and is better than it was at launch, but still not perfect. I have every faith that this product will be great one day. But today it is only good. Don't misunderstand, the feature works and works well. I do have a few caveats though. You are supposed to be able to watch 1 channel while recording another. This dual-channel setup still only sometimes works. Sometimes you are forced to watch what you are recording. Additionally, you are only allowed to record some (not all) of your OTA channels. I should be able to record any channel I can receive. Again, the cloud-based DVR has vastly improved and will continue to improve. I use the feature often and, in general, am very happy with it. One of the nice features is that I can watch what I have recorded on a separate computer just by logging into my Boxee account. It is great for watching "on the go."
So what are you buying the Boxee for? If you need a full-featured HDTV tuner, this is the product to get. If you are looking for just an internet streaming device Boxee might suit your needs, but you should comparison shop. If you are buying it for the cloud-based DVR, Boxee is the only set top box that has this feature.Got a Boxee TV as soon as they were available. Had been playing around with the possibility of cutting cable completely, and going with online services only. Boxee made this a realistic goal. I had looked into several alternatives like the WDLive and Roku lines of products. The functionality and pricing are comparable, but Boxee has been around and doing this a lot longer than most. Boxee also has an active community, forums and support. The base software itself is free to download as well, which is a very big positive in my opinion. It shows that the company and developers believe in their product enough to let anyone try it out for free, and that they stand behind it as well. So the company wins by a long shot in my opinion. The product continues to improve on that. The unit itself is very small and fits in anywhere. There is no sound from it at all, which is important for a media entertainment device. The remote is responsive and intuitive, as is the on screen display and menus. My young kids have no problem figuring it all out and using it by themselves. The antenna included is adequate for me being in a major metro area, but you can easily upgrade to something more robust if you want to. It was very nice to have that as an option and not need to run to the store to get one after setting up. Boxee has been very quick and helpful to respond anytime I have had questions. This is what I would recommend for anyone who wants a dead simple cable replacement with no questions.

I would highly recommend Boxee TV to anyone. I receive free network TV and can record shows to the Boxee cloud DVR. Integration with Netflix, Pandora, Vudu, etc. is perfect. The only thing missing is Hulu, but I'm sure they will add it soon. I've had my Boxee TV for only about 6 months, but Boxee is always making improvements. I love it and won't be going back to satellite tv.I have an AppleTV, I love it, it's very nicely made and works perfectly. The problem is that is does not do everything I would like it to do, and it's not likely that it ever will. I am a Boxee Beta Tester and I have to say I use my Boxee TV box more than my Apple TV. Our Apple TV is used 99% for the kids to watch Netflix and 1% for streaming from our iPad's or iPhone's. My Boxee TV can browse my network shares for video. I can pop in a USB Flash Drive and access all my videos. Not to mention the Apps they are adding all the time. HBO Go please :) I have not even gotten into the DVR features, but if Boxee can get the cable companies to let Boxee decode the premium channels or have Apps for them like HBO Go, I would replace all of our cable boxes and put a Boxee TV on all 6 TV's in my house. Buy one, let's make this happen :)This is a great product and it works just like you expect and more. Easy to set up and more meaningful functionality.Hopefully we'll be able to DVR over the cable soon but regardless it's a great product.
