The goods:
the drive is recognized immediately
It's very compact and doesn't take much space on the desk!
It's very quiet compared to my old drive
Can burn CD and DVD at goos speed
Plays blu-ray movies without problems and the picture is very clear!
The bad:
USB cord is very short. Honestly, I think it's about 1,5 to 2 feet long only .I'm lucky to have an open desk that has lots of opening, but someone who doesn't will have to leave the drive very near the PC in order to plug it.
The software that comes with the drive are not the best I've used, but they work to a certain point. For some reason, I can't capture still images of the blu ray movies that I played...?
Takes 2 USB ports (one for powering the unit and one to transfer the data)
Still it's an improvement over my old external drive and the price is low. I'll also be able to easily bring and keep using that drive if I change computer.
UPDATE: I just found out that I can capture images from DVDs...just not blu-ray.Just wanted to point out that only one USB port is needed if your motherboard sends sufficient power to that port. Works perfectly on my M11x with just one port. True plug-n-play operation. Zero stutter while watching blu-rays using PowerDVD. There is riplock, however, limiting rip speed to about 10MB/s. Overall, a good buy.

I have a Samsung Series 9 and this blu-ray drive works great with minimal setup. It plays Blu-rays smoothly without any hiccups. There is no need to plug-in both USB cables. It works with only one USB with my laptop. Again this depends on the laptop, mine was able to provide the drive with enough power. Some older laptops may not do this, then you need to connect both USB cables. Very good product from SAMSUNG.Read Best Reviews of Samsung SE-406AB/RSBD External BlueRay USB 2.0 Combo Optical Drive Here
Good price and a good brand, it worked great for seven months, then the soft ware asked to be updated, and then there was no more watching any Blu-ray disc,no tech support.
I gess I can get it going agin by buying the new "Cyber link DVD-12", for the sale price of $77.00

Haven't tried the bluray option yet because I mainly use it to install software on my driveless laptop. Works well, even with just one plug. Would have bought the bluray writeable version, but I probably would never burn a bluray in my life.
