This review addresses only the wi-fi & netflix functionality of this player. I think that's fair since you shouldn't be considering it unless you are specifically interested in those features. If you aren't, there's a wide variety of capable, non-networked blu-ray players that are much less expensive.

First off, the wireless card in this player didn't impress me. I had it in my living room where my laptop always has a strong wireless signal, but it had trouble maintaining a connection at all and rarely had a strong enough signal to accomplish much. This may have contributed to my difficulty getting set up and connected to my Netflix account. In the end I couldn't get the Netflix software to work at all until I upgraded the firmware. The network update seemed to take forever -after 30 minutes and 10% progress I just gave up and downloaded the update from the Philips support site via my laptop and updated the player using an SD card. This worked fine.

When I moved the player into the same room as my base station the connection was fine, so that may not be an issue for you depending on your layout. But even if you get a good signal on your network, I'd still prepare for disappointment in the Netflix interface. The only thing you can do is browse and stream shows that are ALREADY in your instant viewing queue. You cannot search by title or browse recommendations, new releases, etc. You need to go to your PC or phone and add things to your queue in order to stream them through the player.

Another minor complaint, there is no USB port for media, only an SD card slot which would be fine except it only seems to play JPEG or MP3 off of an SD card -no video support.

I ended up deciding that wi-fi and netflix are probably secondary considerations on a blu-ray player and I went with a dedicated network media player instead (NMP-100). For me this works much better.

Given the previous review I had read here on Amazon, I wanted to make a post to indicate that my experience was not the same as that of the other reviewer. Finding the network was quick and easy, the software update downloaded in a minute or two, it installed in five minutes or less, and I was off to investigate the app options available from VUDU!

So, I just wanted to let potential purchasers know that, "your mileage may vary." For $130, I am quite pleased with the wireless capabilities of this unit that I have had the opportunity to investigate thus far. Perhaps that will change when I try to stream something in 1080p, but if that were to work well, this review could easily be updated to five stars.

*today is 11/4/2011 and i did the latest firmware last night*

i just received this blu-ray player last night and it is just 'ok'. i like that it has Vudu on it, but Netflix only plays movies that you have added to your instant que which is not what i expected and not realistic.

the wireless works fine once connected, but doesnt seem to connect by default. so anytime that i want to use net tv, i have to connect my player to my wireless network. but, i am thinking a wired network would resolve this issue though i am not certain.

i also feel that the menu selections are slow and the buttons on the remote control need to be pressed really hard and sometimes twice before the actions happen.

overall this player is ok and everything works but if want and need just a blu-ray player, there are cheaper solutions to choose from.

Works good but Wi Fi is inconsistent and unreliable. WiFi will really bother you. works one minute but not the next. Really frustrating givin the fact that it connected previously but not now. All settings are perfect and I'm a network specialist. If looking for a wireless connection; please pass on this one...

Cannot believe that this unit does not play netflix. Only some crappy seemingly trial version. You can only veiw movies in your instant que. If this is your primary source for watching Netflix, youre pretty much screwed. At my house I bought a CHEAPER unit that had full netflix capability. I get this unit for my parents so I can show them netflix and am utterly disappointed. What a waste. Should have just bought them an Xbox or Wii. There goes 130 bucks....
