Protron PD-007 Progressive Scan DVD Player

Protron PD-007 Progressive Scan DVD Player
  • 2.1 Channel DVD Player Progressive Scan
  • 10-bit Video Encoder
  • 500 High Resolution Line
  • Built-in Dolby Digital AC-3/5.1 Channel Decoder/DTS
  • Parental Lock/Support Multilingual Dialog

I had this DVD player for about a month when it first started acting up. First DVDs would jump and freeze all over the place...no amount of cleaning would help.

Then the sound was the next to go ... the player would produce sound on DVDs at random. It did not matter if the DVDs were new out the package. Save your money...get a real DVD player because this thing is just horrible. My PS2 plays DVDs better than this does and the next thing I'll be doing is tossing it out with the trash.

While it's true the price is great and the picture is clear, assuming the DVD is one the player "likes." It seems to like about 75% of the DVDs I rent. There seems to be no rhyme nor reason to which DVDs the player will play with no problems and which ones it baulks at.

Call me weird, but I'd rather pay more for something that works. My life is complicated enough without having an emo DVD player. I've tried following the extemely limited instructions for troubleshooting in the manual, nothing helped. I searched online for a firmware upgrade, none available.

I think the best thing to be searching online for is a new DVD player.

The Protron PD 007 is working as advertised. The selection for surround sound in the manual was not as clear as it should be. Checked manual from other manufacturer to get correct setting.

Have found that all features on all disks will not be available on all DVD players like Apex, Cinevision, Coby and Toshiba.

Have watched only one movie thus far. Have run parts of other movies to check video quality and sound set up.

Runs Home movies copied to DVD-R disk on Toshiba DVD recorder.

I used it mainly in 2006 and recently in 2013, it works fine for me. My only gripe is that if you want to stop it and start it at where you left off, you have to press the stop button no more than once (into so-called "pre-stop" mode by its terminology, as shown on screen). If you press stop twice or simply power it off, you'll have to watch it from the beginning again next time you turn it on.

I purchased 2 of these on sale. Right out of the box it never worked. There was no sound. I was checking online for a way to troubleshoot this problem and happened on this website, which tells me that I should run back to the store to return these. I will do this today
