This product shipped without any of the supporting documentation or software that would normally accompany it. I plugged it in, it worked great. However, without the literature or software I could not access some of the functions or convert any videos I had.I went to the manufacturers website and I had to go through a long process that involved completing forms, numerous phone calls, and being on hold for extended periods just so that I could get what should have been in the box. During this annoying rigmarole I discovered that, since the product was no longer covered by manufacturer warranty (mind you this was brand new and sold by the actual manufacturer through Amazon.com), I could not obtain the missing items, nor could I warranty the product if it failed.
Much phone calling, emailing, and arguing later I was able to obtain the missing products and get my warranty extended. Needless to say, none of that should have been necessary. I am very pleased with the product (so far), but these other issues have left a very sour taste in my mouth and made me somewhat distrustful of Western Digital.
What kind of manufacturer holds a product on their own shelves past the stamped warranty date, then sells it on-line THEMSELVES, and then won't honor their own policy that says the warranty can be updated if the date of purchase can be demonstrated.

Pros1.Video resolution is great
2.It has two pen drive inputs to read from
3.It has HDMI
Cons
1.From all the MKV I've tested so far (about 10) I was just able to play one with audio. Audio is not working even after upgrading the firmware.
2.No matter how many level of folders you have for your pics, videos and music, you'll see everything in one list
If you have any idea on how to make the audio work for all mkvs I'd appreciate your feedback.

This WDTV HD media player is buggy, has major audio/video sync issues. the manual says its compatible with various file types, it will play them, but with problems, either video/sync issues, or the unability to ff or rw certain file types like .mp4 and .Avi. check out the forums on their website about the issue, there are a lot of complaints about this. I was really excited when I bought the player, only to be very disapointed after purchasing it. im going to buy another PS3 just to play my video/audio files, a lot more $$ but at least its very reliable.Like most people, I bought this media player to connect my external HD to play photos and movies without having to connect my PC or HD recorder to my AV system. What a poor piece of electronics. It is not just painfully slow, it's down right archaic. It can't handle even a 100 GB HD without a fit. Switching between pictures, which on any system anywhere should be a fraction of a second, takes minimally 5 seconds. So if you can set aside an entire afternoon to look at, say, 200 pictures, this is the system for you. The picture is fine when it finally loads. Best to pay a little more for the newer version since it's clear WD is abandoning this POS.
