Philips Silver Plug-In Interview Microphone (LFH9171/00)

Philips Silver Plug-In Interview MicrophoneBought this microphone with the Philips LHF0662. In SHQ recording mode the sound without the external mic is perfect (crisp and no background noise). With the external microphone however, the sound is dimmed and full of noise. My advise: buy the voice recorder but leave the external mic in the shelves...

I purchased two of these to get better separation of the stereo(these are Mono mikes)for capturing EVPs up and down stairs, down long hallways, etc. This microphone is perfect as it has NO noise canceling properties except the wind shields which are optional. Also it is very sensitive(as stated in specs)and has good frequency response. Now if you are looking for a noise cancelling mike this one isn't it.

Pros:

Very Sensitive

Good Frequency Response

Solid Metal Construction (NO plastics)

Cons:

No Noise cancellation

This microphone is not for conference recording. The following is extracted from the user manual.

Use the microphone

* Speak in front of the microphone.

* For best results, speak clearly and keep the microphone about 10 cm / 4 inches away from your mouth.

* Use the wind shield for outdoor recordings and when recording for speech recognition.

* Not suitable for conference recording.

* Plugging in and out while recording may cause noise or malfunction.

I'm in law school and purchased this to go with the Philips digital recorder for lecture recording. Without the "microphone" you can hear the lecture fine although it picks up pretty much everything. I was hoping that the directional mic would change that. Instead you can hear almost nothing. No background noise and a very very faint whipering professor. I had to get someone else's recordings to replace the week when I tried to use this thing. It is a poor product and I'm shocked that it is even marketed. The performance is so outlandishly bad that even the word "microphone" is a misrepresentation. Do not buy.
