This TASCAM unit is perfect for mastering studio-quality CD's. I also use it for the excellent cassette and phonograph transfer applications. TASCAM has worked well for me, with many of their products, over many years. This unit also has a MP3 capability. If you are thinking of buying quality, this is it. I like the slot-loading CD transport. The older unit had a drawer that finally developed issues. I am replacing an original TASCAM CC-222 after 11 years with this new model. So far, it meets my expectations. You get what you pay for here. Certainly there are cheaper products to accomplish similar needs. But for a compact, multi-use solution, with digital input/output, look at this one. You can download the owner's manual before you buy it. Make sure it will do what you need it to do. Amazon's price is the best I have found. You can pay much closer to list price from some other professional retailers.

Should have had one of these a long time ago This works great it does exactly what it is supposed to do If you have pre-recorded tapes you want on cd, pop one in, put in a blank cd, it will divide tracks for you You don't have to sit and do it one at a time Works well with tapes you've made also All a very easy simple process And, you have RCA inputs that will allow you to do this process with just about any audio, provided there are small gaps in between. And you can even adjust that with this machine based on volume input Finalization of the disk is far simpler than on my HK CD Recorder, and much faster. I bought this product to convert a lot of cassettes to CD. My parents have a lot of old cassettes with outdated vintage collection of Indian music. This product helped me convert them to CD format without too much of an issue. I did not attach to a stereo system and monitor at the same time, although it would have been the most ideal way to do it. No complaints though as the CDs that were burned were fine. I will now convert the CDs to lossless wav files and edit them properly. This will create the best quality (as good as the cassette's) that is possible. A lot of work as the burning is at "live time." You will enjoy the results if you value the cassettes and want to save them for next 100 years. :-)

This thing is great. Fantastic sound quality even on cassettes. I was very surprised with how well my old cassettes sounded on this unit connected to my Marantz SR7007 and Martin Logan electrostatic speakers. You do not need to buy expensive Audio CD-R, any CD-r will do fine. It also does a great job at detecting tracks automatically. It even plays mp3 tracks off a CD.
