Bundle Combo: Neoprene Dual Pocket Zipper Case (Black), Micro USB to USB Cable (3 Feet), Car Charge

Bundle Combo: Neoprene Dual Pocket Zipper Case, Micro USB to USB Cable, Car Charger, Wall Travel/Home Charger, and Carabiner Key Chain for the Kodak PlaySport HD Waterproof Pocket Video CameraEverything worked great. Very helpful to have the USB cable have a dual purpose (doubles as a computer to camera cable and wall charger to camera cable). Pouch keeps everything together in one place.

I would definetly recommend this bundle to anyone who's purchased a Kodak playsport. It's a handy-dandy little combo that will be pretty helpful in many different ways. First, I'm pretty sure the USB cable that comes in this pack is longer than the one that originally came with my camera, but even if it's not, it's nice to have a cable just incase something happens to your original one. The car charger is great and it really comes in handy since the camera's battery life isn't the best. I always take my camera outdoors with me for much of the day so the car charger was amazing! The wall plug is also just another spare "justincase" part since the camera already comes with one, but I still take my spare around with me so I can charge it if I find an outlet. My favorite part (and probably the main thing) about this bundle is the camera pouch. It's a very nice material that's super soft and smooth so it keeps the camera safe and scratch free! It also has an extra pocket on the outside that can hold any extra memory cards and batteries you may have. It's probably too small to fit the cable inside though. I still haven't used the keychain yet, but I suppose it's always nice to have one.

This is a great little kit to have, it's cheap yet functional, and it won't go to wasteyou'll use it all the time!

I bought this to go with my Kodak PlaySport Pocket Camcorder. It works good for carrying the remote control and extra batteries. The AC/USB adapter works good to charge up my PlaySports batteries faster as well. The DC/USB Adapter charges up my PlaySport, GPS, or Cellphone while riding my motorcycle or driving my car. Overall a great kit for any small portable electronic device!

Sony Radio CD MP3 Cassette Stereo Boombox w/ Remote

Sony Radio CD MP3 Cassette Stereo Boombox w/ Remote
  • Cassette, CD player w/MP3 playback capability
  • Audio In for Digital Media Players
  • ID3 Tag in large display - MEGA BASS Sound System
  • CD to Tape Synchronized Recording
  • Digital Synthesized FM Stereo/AM Tuner w/30 Station Preset

[[ASIN:B00439BHB0 Sony Radio CD MP3 Cassette Stereo Boombox w/ Remote] I would love to say that the sound is superb, but instead I would say that it is fairly good for a small boombox. I am keeping it because it plays CD'S with MP3 format, has a cassette component, AM/FM Radio and is very portable. Easy to use, I listen to audio books and to find your way around the disc is no problem. I have had it for a week, and so far am pleased. I gave only four stars because it is quite pricey for its size.

Buy Sony Radio CD MP3 Cassette Stereo Boombox w/ Remote Now

I bought this unit because it is one of the few units on the market that play both cassettes and CDs. I noticed that the reviewers for a lower-priced Sony combo said that it ate tapes. I had hoped that this more expensive unit wouldn't. Unfortunately, it does. It ate a commercial 60-minute tape. Do not buy this unit if you want to play tapes.

It does fine playing audio CDs (I have not tried MP3 CDs yet).

It has a convenient jack on the front to allow you to play the output from an MP3 player. That works fine.

I have not tried the remote control. In my opinion, a unit this small does not need a remote.

All of the controls are digital. I would much prefer a volume control that is a knob, but this one consists of two buttons -+ and -.

It's very difficult to find a cassette player, and cd player with mp3 and best yet with a remote...Sony's own web site does not offer this model (out of country only) so if your looking for all of the above this is it....but sound quality not so much...the remote doesn't get you to specific cd tracks..and on pause it will not hold the exact portion of the cd only the chapter but I use it strictly for the kitchen (inside a cabinet garage) to listen to books on tape while cooking etc. so sound quality is not of the greatest importance. I replaced an older sony model with this unit and if the other model played mp3's I would have gotten the same model again as the sound quality was better and the remote worked better as well. If you don't need to play cassettes there are other much smaller units that sound better and play all types of discs...but this is about the best you will find that does it all at this time.

I bought this from a big box mart store at $40 less than the price here. I'm impressed and super pleased with my purchase. CD, cassette, radio and it can run on batteries if need be. It's compact, has a nice handle and very portable when on the go. It sounds great (has mega bass). I'd recommend it to anyone that needs a small, portable cd and cassette player. Just buy it for $50 instead of $90

Sony Portable Digital Tuner AM/FM Radio Tape Cassette Recorder & CD Player Mega Bass Reflex Stereo Sound System with Program, Shuffle, Repeat, 20 Track RMS Programming, 30 Presets, LCD Display, Auto Scan Tuning & Audio in Jack to Connect any iPod, iPhon...Only thing good I can say about this radio is that it does work. But the sound quality is awful, in all formats. I got this for my wife to use at yoga, but one can't even understand the words it has so much background noise & hiss. I bought a 1970ish straight radio at a yard sale & it sounds so much better. No excuse for the sound quality not to be better on the Sony radio no less some 40yrs later. Should have returned it but was so confident in Sony I threw away the box & packing, then heard radio after wife got home & was so angry I just threw my hands up. Always had good luck with Sony but never again. So maybe you should listen to one first or just go with another kind. I realize this sounds angry but have had time to think it over, so decided to try to help others if possible, especially right before Christmas. Good luck

BUFFALO MediaStation 6X USB 2.0 Portable Blu-Ray Writer - BR-PX68U2/BK

BUFFALO MediaStation 6X USB 2.0 Portable Blu-Ray Writer - BR-PX68U2/BKI put this Blu-ray writer on my Wish List and I received it as a gift for 2010 Christmas. I was needing a way to make backup copies of my purchased Blu-ray movies for the kids because they were constantly losing them or getting them scratched up. I connected it to my Dell Studio 1749 laptop, via my USB hub because I have several other external drives connected simultaneously. I also connected the separate AC power adapter that was included with the Blu-ray writer. The next thing I did was download and install a trial version of separate software to enable me to make backup copies of Blu-ray discs (I only used the trial version of the software until I found out it worked for sure, then I was more than happy to purchase the full version of the software ($60) in order to backup all my Blu-ray discs in the future). Next, I used the Blu-ray writer with the separate software I downloaded to create a Blu-ray disc image file (.iso) of a Blu-ray disc I wanted to make a backup copy of. I saved the Blu-ray disc image file (.iso) on one of my external hard drives until I got a blank Blu-ray disc to burn it on. Since I also received the Optical Quantum 25GB 4X BD-R Logo Top Spindle 25 pcs for Christmas, I had to convert the Blu-ray disc image file to fit on a 25GB blank Blu-ray disc, which was one of the options I selected before I created the Blu-ray disc image file. After I got finished creating the Blu-ray disc image file on my external hard drive, all I did was insert one of the Optical Quantum 25GB 4X BD-R Logo Top Spindle 25 pcs in the Buffalo Blu-ray Writer and the rest was history! It worked perfectly, but took several hours to copy/write because it's not near as fast as a DVD writer, but this should be expected due to the huge amount of data that is required for the Blu-ray discs. I'm not complaining about the speed, because the backup I made works great on my Blu-ray player in the living room!

I've used this Writer for several BD-RE 50G discs now and I can say that I am generally happy. The Verbatim discs burn around 3.1x avg and as high as 4.2x (Imgburn) which is better than the advertised 2x. I am glad they sent me an external power supply as the chargeable port I use on my laptop is just short in the supplied power. The blue light lights just a bit brighter with the supply. It uses the Sony drive so I know it comes from the source of Blu-ray and isn't a knock-off of some kind. The outside black housing is just right and was exactly as the picture shows. It is sturdy and put together well with the connections on the back. It can even be tethered to a cord for security.

Now the software that was supplied is partially okay. The turboUSB really makes a difference. Without it, it maxs out at 0.9x. So you have to install it or you could wait practically forever for a large burn. As mentioned above, Imgburn reported an average of 3.1x and has gone up from there at points. Impressive! The Cyberlink software is marginal at best for blu-ray. Most of the functions require an upgrade and the PowerDVD software fails at running it and selecting menu items. I have an on-going ticket with Cyberlink right now (Buffalo didn't want to touch this issue which is fine.) but I am not confident in the resolve because I hardly think they could do anything concidering it is very old software (3 yrs) and there are no updates to speak of available. Fortunately I use other software to burn and encode my blu-rays and will not probably use the Cyberlink software for anything anyway. It's just too bad I have a whole suite that is defective at the core product. As far as firmware or driver updates: nadda Windows7 is using a 2006 driver build (way before Windows7 was released) and it recognises it fine but you'd think it would update for 64-bit or something special, right? Sony has a firmware update but the OEM (Buffalo) has it installed already (1.02) so it doesn't matter.

Would I recommend this product? Sure! Would I buy it again? Probably!

Update: 6/16/11: I resolved the Cyberlink problem by surfing the Internet. I was getting a CLHelp error which crashed the PowerDVD application. If you google the error it will point to a few solutions which worked for me. But the earlier part of my review still holds: most of the Blu-Ray functions I want to use require upgrading (bummer).

Update: 6/19/11: Another Verbatim BD-RE disc jumped the writing speed to 6.5x! Avg write = 9mb/s! That is 32.4 gigs an hour!!! Absolutely amazing!

I got this burner on Christmas 2010 but I start using it almost a year later; I installed the software that came with the burner on a laptop running windows 7 32 bits. The installation was easy and the drive was recognized without any issues.

The burning process took a little bit longer to tune than expected, I was initially getting an error on closing the disc and getting very frustrated because I bought the expensive verbatim blue ray discs, these do not come cheap.

Anyway I started to do some research online and I came across other users having the same issues, since the drive

was unopened for almost a year I decided to clean the lens; I bought a CleanDrx for Blue-ray and after completing the cleaning operation the max burning speed that the drive automatically detects went from 4X to 6X(I forgot to mention that I initially assumed that 6X was a marketing claim :) )

Cleaning the lens definitively improved the performance I was able to close a couple of the 25 Gig verbatim disc but I was still having the error code on closing some of the discs, at this point I was burning at 4X and powering the driver with the external power supply to provide all the necessary power.

The next step was to stop using the software that came with the unit, I decided to install NERO and give it a shot, this last action completed the tuning of the driver for me. I have been burning over 20 discs without a single incident since I start using NERO for the burning, I have the trial version but I will purchase it.

Needless to say that I would recommend the hardware but not the software.

Android 2.2 8 inch Tablet Pc - A8

Android 2.2 8 inch Tablet Pc - A8UPDATE: This gadget was terrific--for the 3 days that it actually worked! I put it on to charge and the next morning it wouldn't come on at all--never to come back to life. It seems that several others have had the same problem. I emailed the seller, who responded immediately, who acknowledged the problem and has promised a full refund when he receives it. So disappointing, as it was great when it worked. Hopefully, the bug will be worked out of these and they will be available at this price point, as they are tons of fun.

I received my tablet yesterday, 11/17/11, well before the promised delivery date, so was really surprised at the speedy delivery. I was somewhat taken aback by the fact that there was no manual or instructions of any sort, and this was a bit intimidating since I have never had an Android device. It would have been nice to at least have a diagram to tell me what the basic function buttons were, but after a bit of playing around, I was able to figure out most of it and download a couple of apps that I really wanted (Kindle, Nook & Audible). I did download a Kindle publication that covers Android 2.2, but it is aimed at the Galaxy so is of only general use. I could't find any aftermarket resource that specifically discusses the operation of Android 2.2 in a tablet, but there may be one out there. There are boards and blogs that might be useful for dealing with specific issues, but so far I have been able to intuit the functions that I want with no previous experience with Android OS's.

I am disappointed that my device does NOT have a USB input jack on the unit as indicated in the described specs. The one I received has a black edge, not silver like the one in the picture, so I am not sure if it is the same brand/model (the unit itself has no brand on it, and the packaging has something in Chinese characters but no English label) or not. It has a separate doggle that plugs into the power port, so I am crossing my fingers that this will operate without any special tweaking on my part, since I am not a "techie". I don't really expect to have to use that all that often, so having to do one step more than just plugging into the port is not that big a deal.

This tablet is absolutely great as an e-reader that allows me to access a number of different sources. Being a senior citizen, I like the backlit screen for reading (I found the e-ink of the Kindle 2 difficult to read even with large type). Browsing the web is straightforward and the Market has more apps than I will ever use. I don't expect this to replace my iPhone (which I love and am lost without), but it is nice to have an app-based way to access the functions I use most often. The lack of documentation and USB jack caused me to deduct one star on the rating, but those would be easy to fix.

This little guy does not replace my laptop or my iPhone--too small for the first and too big for the second. But it fills a gap between the two, being the right size for book reading (especially with the ability to re-size the text), read email and do some basic surfing. The size of this unit is perfect (8"), being large enough to read easily and small enough to be easy to handle and hold for an extended period of time. I have yet to find out how long the battery will stay charged, but it is not anywhere near as long as the Kindle (but I need to tweak a couple of settings--turn off the GPS--for longer life, I just found out), but it will certainly get you through a day of reading. It can be recharged with a wall socket or USB connection. I think it will be ideal to take when traveling, since I usually am too busy to spend much time on the internet. Being able to carry books, read mail and check some news is well within the capabilities of this little unit. For 40% of the price of the basic iPad, only slightly more than a Kindle and less than the color Nook, it is a very handy crossover device and worth the cost if I don't ever use it for more than I have already gotten it to do.

What had drawn me to this device was that it had the latest Droid version. Although that might be the case, it is some sort of hybrid of a Droid. First of all during boot, a Linux logo appears in the left hand corner of the screen. I thought Droid was a stand-alone operating system. The device does not have a connection to the Droid Marketplace. It has a connection to some other app store that does not offer nearly what I have access to on my Droid phone. The device works okay. Wifi works fine and the battery life seems stable. But the bottom line is that it is just 1/2 of a Droid. I essentially bought a wireless web browser that will also play some games and will be good for eBooks. It runs Google Maps, and I found a few interesting apps on the third party app store. Overall, I would not recommend it unless you have disposable cash and need something a little larger than your phone to use when you are bored at the airport or coffee place. I intend to keep the device. Maybe over time things will improve and I enjoy the touch screen interface that Droid offers. Besides, I'd be out money if I were to return it, which makes no sense. The device was made in China. If you are really interested in owning a tablet device, focus on devices made elsewhere.

This Apad8 operating system and software works well. The actual physical tablet worked for about 12 days then died.

The little manual does not explain at all how the unit should be charged correctly, I left the device to charge the battery overnight and next day was dead.

Android Padlet gives only 7 days warranty on the unit. Android Padlet did not respond to my inquiry for more information for the unit.

I have tried to reset the unit, pushed all the buttons and the device is totally dead, I would assume that during charging it shorted.

For , the use of 12 days this actual tablet pc is not worth buying from any seller. I do not recommend buying it.

===============

01/26/2011

Just want to mention: Amazon.com and the third party seller have no fault on this transaction that went wrong. Android Padlet did contact me trying to address my concerns. So I change my stance on the seller.

Amazon.com is a great place to shop with confidence. The only thing I wish, is that Amazon.com and the third party sellers stop allowing these companies, like the manufacturers from China to take advantage of the customers: No troubleshooting instructions, less than 30 days return policies, no technical support, no-name companies, no location address, no customer service toll-free phone.

Ofcourse lots of electronics are made in China but generally speaking, those sold in the US are backed by a Company Name, who offers warranty and returns / repairs / replacements unlike this Android PC tablet. Google does not manufacture the tablet PC, they only put the operating system on it, and offers software downloads.

These A-pads and Android phones evidently have major flaws and the customer is doomed to hang with a lemon. Everywhere on the internet are now a lot of people who feel they have been scammed, and to add insult to injury, are required to pay a hefty return transportation. That automatically rise the price at over $300.00 for this particular item, not to mention the frustration, aggravation, and time.

Google should take note if they want to save their face with these devices (too bad because android 2.2 is a great system) Give the job to other country, that keeps accountability and good reputation for their products.

Chinese manufacturers would better either honor their product or cease to sell through Amazon, Google and other reputable companies. Nobody wants a deal with dishonest companies. Their no-name now is in the mud. No PC or digital phone repair shop want to even touch these devices. There are no spare/replacements parts for them in the US.

Who sells this item? Amazon, Google, Alibalba, Aliexpress, Chinadigitalcomm, Dhgate, Umibuy, LightinTheBox, Android Padle, Merimobiles and many others.

My wife wanted a larger tablet than the Archos A32 that I use. She found this on Amazon's site and was interested so I bought it for her birthday. What a disappointment. The touchscreen doesn't read 90 percent of the time, the unit locked up twice in the first hour I tried to use it and the WiFi will NOT CONNECT to any network at all, including my secure network and my OPEN network.

I contacted the seller and they are very committed to making this right. Sports Entertainment immediately refunded my shipping charges to my account while I shipped it back to them. Once I shipped the unit they refunded my purchase price. I would not buy this product but I would definitely buy from Sports Entertainment again since they are very responsible in my opinion.

I received this Android 2.2 OEM Tablet (No brand name) with the condition as expected. My experience of using Verizon wireless Android smart phone apply to using this tablet.

The difference:

1) 8" resistance touch pannel works well but requires harder push when operate.

2) Loaded with Quickoffice to open MSFT office documents. On my cell hone I have to pay for a copy to run on cell phone.

Pro:

Got to market to download and run APP.

A few APP failed to run, but most runs fine. Adobe reader also work as expected.

Good response and speed to operate

Con:

Not sure if GPS is not working or not included. This is not clear to me. Product only comes with a 4 page instruction.

System may sometimes lock up and requires a reset if try to use USB connection with a PC.

Adobe flash 10.1 download from market failed to install. Don't know if this is expected?

It's not the good quality of workmanship you would expect from a brand name high priced iteam. I got what I pay for.

In summary, worth the money and do what supposed to do.

Panasonic DVD-RV31S DVD Player, Silver

Panasonic DVD-RV31S DVD Player, Silver
  • DVD/VCD/CD player with MP3, CD-R, and CD-RW playback
  • Optical digital-audio output for Dolby Digital and DTS surround sound
  • Features Panasonic Advanced Surround (VSS) system with Bass Plus, 1-touch cinema memory, and dialogue enhancer
  • Discrete subwoofer output routes home theater sound to your subwoofer
  • Also includes S-video output, component-video outputs, multibrand remote control, and front-panel shuttle dial

Panasonic DVD-RV30 (older model w/o MP3 capability) was rated excellent for picture quality in the Consumer Report magazine.I found that is true also for this RV31 (silver) model. Unlike my older JVC dvd player, this player allows me to set different black level (light and darker); it allows users to set contrast, brightness, sharpness, color, and tint--features used to be only available in more expensive players. The picture quality, of course, is outstanding. I could notice more details in the black/dark areas when I set the brightness a little higher than factory preset. Among the 3 dvd players I've owned, I find this RV31 to have the best (user-friendly) on-screen menu. This player, however, lacks a screen saver to prevent phospher burn-in. In addition, it lacks a coaxial digital output. It comes with optical output, and of course also regular (a/v) rca outputs. It has component video output as well. The remote control is fine. I didn't think the keys are too small; however,it is not a universal remote. MP3 player, honestly, works flawlessly. I expected that it wasn't going to work based on other reviews. To my surprise, the player was able to read and play all my tracks on every MP3 cd-r and CD-RWs I have. It could be that I have saved all my music files in bit rate of 128 or higher. It does say in the manual that if the bit rate is 96 or lower, it may have problem reading the files. All in all, I was very happy to have purchased this player. I have played DVDs, MP3s and my Hong Kong VCDs without running into any problems. I also like the silver finish (you can purchase in black, as well.)

Buy Panasonic DVD-RV31S DVD Player, Silver Now

I bought this DVD player 3 months ago and I could never be happier with it. Since then I have bought 3 more of these players for friends and relatives. I bought the Black or Silver they are exactly identical in functionality. I prefer the Silver look myself.

The MP3 player was a big plus! It plays my MP3 disks with ease. The only problem is that it only displays the numbers of my MP3 files when playing it. So you may have to memorize your MP3 via numbers. It will play the files in the order the MP3 files are written. Just make sure you make a list of the songs cause there is no way to memorize over a hundred songs in a disk.

Unlike the Toshiba DVD with the MP3 playing capability, the Panasonic DVD/CD/VCD/MP3 COULD Fast Forward/Rewind while playing the MP3 files. Im glad I did not buy the Toshiba, pretty much all the Toshiba players I tried in the electronics store could not fast forward/rewind MP3 file/song. This is bothersome especially if you need to scan through your MP3 songs.

Playback was excellent. I haven't got any bad pixelations where the picture was not completely processed which leaves bigger squares of the image all over the place. I did get a couple pauses/delay/discontinuity while playing the DVD on some disks. The discontinuity usually happens while it switches to the next track. It only happens rarely in the frequency of once in 10 movies I play. It may just be the disk itself causing it, especially if it has scratches.

As far a CD playing is concerned, it has pretty much what a normal CD player has. Search, Fast Forward, Rewind, Random, Scan and more... Just read up on the specifications to find out the rest.

VCD Playback is excellent as well. The image was nice and clear. Of course it will never match up with the DVD's picture quality.

The component outputs and digital audio output is a plus for future expansions. Most new higher end televisions and receivers have component inputs now. And most receivers that support DTS/Dolby digital 5.1 will have digital audio inputs. Though this particular player does not support progressive scan, the picture quality is up to par. Panasonic makes a model that supports progressive scan but it is slightly more expensive. It will look very similar to this one except it will say progressive scan on the front disk tray.

This player also implements special function for surround sound. It will simulate a surround sound through your television even though you don't have any of the complex receivers/audio equipment. Of course it will not match up with having your own surround receiver, but it is good enough if you don't have one.

This player has proven itself to be very reliable to me. Its ease of use and functionality makes it my top pick especially for its price range. At Amazons current pricing on this player (Black or Silver), you cannot find a better name brand in its class!

I have spent a very long time searching for the right dvd player and I came across the Panasonic RV31. It is great! Together with the ability to play mp3s and its incredible ease of use, this product is definitely worth the money. The silver color looks fantastic and its superior video and audio qualities makes this dvd player a must buy for all who are looking for something inexpensive.

Want Panasonic DVD-RV31S DVD Player, Silver Discount?

I will start out by saying that I loved this DVD player. It did everything I wanted it to do and di it very well. No complaints on the actual performance. My 1 star is because I have owned two of them already and they have both given "H02" errors which, from my understanding, means they need a new laser which is about $90. They both failed after the warranty period. It starts at digitized boxes happening during DVD play (have cleaning products for the player and the DVDs) and soon progresses into ruined machine. So now my second failed with the same error and I can't bring myself to get it fixed or get another for fear of a threepeat.

I just purchased this dvd player by panasonic recently and I am so pleased with it's level of quality. For $... you are getting features, picture quality, and an extra jack for a subwoofer that players 3 times as much do not have. I have read some reveiws that say the mp3 player lacks in quality. Well, I have played the highest quality bitrate (200+) to the lowest I could find (64) and the panasonic handles them all perfectly. This dvd player was the perfect compliment to my expanding home theater. Definitely buy this one. Panasonics quality is excellent!

Got this MP4 player for Fathers day 2010, at first I couldn't find my music or pictures after I had added them, but found out how to move them from folder to folder so that they would show up, the owners manuel is not good at all, useless.

Once I knew what to do, it turns out to be a great little thing, I can down load all my short video's of my Alex from all his sporting events and the pictures too.

The other cool thing is that you can down load clips from You Tube, like Seinfeld bloopers or funny scene's from the show, my Alex loves clips of Kramer and Newman, and also SpongeBob clips and music video's too.

I have added so much stuff and still have half the memory left, and then can add a SD card too.

Another cool thing is that is has speakers on the back so you can listen without head phones.

The reason I gave it only a 4 is because it is hard to figure out, there is no tech support and some things do not work at all like ebook and files, and the touch screen doesn't work right away on the first touch.

For the price this player does a lot of things and the battery is great, this will do me wonders on my 10 flight to Hawaii next month.

UPDATE BELOW.

Here is an update I just figured out how to add ebooks and view them, you need to take the downloaded PDF file and convert it to a text file. Here is a free download

Once you convert it to text then you add it to the player and then drag it to the ebook folder and its there for you to read.

I mainly bought this for putting pictures in it that I could show friends and family. Unfortunately, the pictures look lousy and you cannot zoom in on the pictures. I tried resizing a few images (to a lower resolution) and that made little to no difference in the quality of the picture display. I also found that I really didn't like the implementation of the touch screen on this device. The picture scroll buttons did not always work and the back button was in different screen locations depending on what you were doing. However, it does have a lot of features, comes with 2gb of memory, AC adapter, USB cable, CD and manual. If you are going to use it for audio and not pictures then this might make a nice unit.

Xitel INport Deluxe

Xitel INport DeluxeI love the InPort Deluxe. Set up was a glitch-free breeze, and the included software (LP Recorder, DeClick, LP Ripper) work exactly like I'd hoped. Pretty intuitive, not too many parameters and options to cause confusion. Sounds very nice, probably better than the original record once you declick it.

The DeClick program does indeed work very well. I prefer to set the LP Recorder level manually, rather than using the Auto Level feature. This is because when listening to an LP MP3 file next to a CD MP3 file on my MP3 player, the Auto Level record feature causes the LP files to be a little softer than the CD files. Setting the LP Recorder level manually to "39" creates LP MP3's that are the same volume as CD MP3's for me. I detect no clipping using this record level.

Although I have 1400 CD's, I still have 700 LP's. A significant portion of my LP's are still not available on CD. I'm tired of waiting for the record companies. This product allows me to bring my remaining LP collection into the 21st Century. I'm now having lots of fun with this product, listening to my LP's at the gym on my MP3 player, and burning them onto CD's for the car.

InPort Deluxe met all of my requirements, exceeded my expectations, and I would recommend it to anyone who still has a pile of vinyl or cassettes.

I bought this elsewhere but checked after I bought it on Amazon for opinions before I opened the package. I need to transfer a large collection of 45 and 33 RPM records to CD's. I am using a Technics turntable and a Steinberg preamp to feed the unit. It works great!! As for the software it does a good job of recording, cleaning up the noise and clicks and ripping to individual tracks. I have run the software on Windows XP Pro and currently am running it under the Vista Operating System. Everything is compatible and works fine. The documentation is fine and I was up and running in 20 minutes.

I would recommend this product without reservation.

I set up my Xitel Inport Deluxe (received as a gift) yesterday and recorded and saved a recording of a two sided LP record. The process went very smoothly after in initial learning period and I got no errors at any point. The software that comes with the Inport does exactly what it is supposed to do if one follows the documentation carefully. I was especially impressed with the ability to remove pops and clicks (present with most older LP records) from the recorded wav files. The most difficult part of the process is learning to use the feature which splits the large single wav file into separate recorded tracks which correspond to the songs on the LP. Once I understood that it went smoothly.

The most time consuming part of the whole process is simply recording the whole LP record side which obviously must be played from beginning to end while Inport records. Once that's done, processing of the file, removing pops and clicks, and splitting and finally renaming tracks into the original song titles went pretty fast. Those tracks of course can be saved on your hard drive and, if you wish, burned to a CD-ROM (using other software supplied by the user) which I did.

Finally I can permanently preserve some really old jazz and classical recordings that probably are no longer available anywhere. I'm REALLY impressed with the Inport Deluxe Kit!

Update after re-booting my computer, for some reason this thing now works great! I still re-clean the files with the MAGIX software, but the sound quality is near CD quality. Still an extra step, but WOW!!! I Highly recommend this product!!!

For the last 2 years I have used MAGIX Audio lab to record my extensive vinyl collection into mp3's. But when I saw this product, I thought it might be better than the MAGIX solution. The MAGIX product allows you to clean and master the files before exporting as mp3's or to a CD. That's a double-edged sword; if you tamper with the files too much you lose quality.

I thought this product, with its promise of 1-click cleaning would be my answer. The product was up and running very quickly, and I chose a relatively old album to test. The album was not in excellent condition, but was far from terrible.

The recording was smooth; however, the de-clicking software (Wave corrector) only removed a small portion of the vinyl noise. So, I tried again, using a more sensitive setting. Still, the recording sounds just like the album clicks, pops and all. NOT what I would call a "CD Quality" version, as promised on the box.

I like the INPort device, however. It allows you to bypass your computer's sound card, which does give you a more faithful representation of the recording. For that purpose alone I am giving it 3 stars.

I had to use my MAGIX software to re-clean the WAV file before I could export it. One additional step, but at least the recording came out sounding crisp and clean.

If you are a discerning listener and audiophile, this product is not for you. This will not really make your vinyl sound CD quality. Sorry, but it doesn't deliver on that promise...

I purchased this for the sole purpose of transfering tapes onto cds. The tapes are roughly 25 years old and are of artists that are not considered mainstream so finding cds of these groups are very hard to find. Having played with the program a few times I got the hang of it and the three steps are easy to do. The cd I just burned sounded great and a family member couldn't believe that it was a copy from a tape.

There is a two things laptops owners should know before purchasing this. I found this information in the troubleshooting section.

1. No other programs should be running and that includes virus checking programs. (This effects the data flow)

2. The data flow can be severely effected by the power management of the CPU.

I didn't read the manual to the end. So the first time I used the program I found that there was a humming sound in the background of the recording. When I used the de-click program it found over 200,000 clicks. After reading over the troubleshooting guide I realized that those two things may have affected the recording. After turning off the virus protection program (wasn't connected to the internet) and adjusting the power management I re-recorded the tape and didn't hear the humming like I did before and the de-click program only found like 8,000 clicks. Even though the number of clicks were high it clean it up nicely. Overall it is a good program to use and will be well used.

As long as you don't mess with it, they work great, This cable is actually rather cheap, again for the price, super high quality should be the last thing on your mind. The ones I bought actually came from newegg rather fast.

Again, set it and forget, if you plan on messing with the cable or have an unstable set up, get a better cable because this one will give you artifacts if you move it around or mess with it too much, other than that it's perfect.

Not of good quality. Being a new item it has scratch on the plating of the connectors!

I ordered it from Amazon, but the package came from Newegg's RMA warehouse... not sure if it is a repackaged used item.

Doesn't has the brand name anywhere, looks like an unbranded product. But it was sold as "Pelican iMBA Series".

JVC GRD33 MiniDV Digital Camcorder w/16x Optical Zoom

JVC GRD33 MiniDV Digital Camcorder w/16x Optical ZoomI bought this as an upgrade from my VHS-C camcorder. I tested it against my roommates' Canon ZR80 and Panasonic GS9.

The video quality in low-light situations was suprisingly good, given what I had heard about most digital camcorders' abilities. The video quality in outdoor situations was even better. It's not up to spec with a Sony, but it's way cheaper, and it outdoes the more expensive Canon ZR. The GS9 was about the same in quality.

However, the camcorder didn't seem to handle combined bright/low-light situations all that well. While it had no problem filming dark regions (shaded/indoors) from a brightly lit area, when filming brightly-lit regions from indoors, the camcorder recorded white streaks that partially obscured whatever was being filmed. I had this problem with the ZR80 and the GS9, so it may just be an issue with low end camcorders in general.

The camcorder had no problem focusing when zooming below 20x magnification, though above 24x, it had noticeable difficulty focusing in low light. It couldn't focus at all above 40x in either bright or low light even with highly contrasting backgrounds and scenery. It shares this problem with the GRD73 and GRD93. The GS9 and ZR80 were noticeably better at focusing at these magnifications.

Though it offers the option to record photos as "stills", the quality wasn't very good. It was also difficult and time-consuming to retrieve these "stills" because the camcorder doesn't use a flash card to store them. I ended up sticking with my digital camera for taking pics; the low quality setting was better than the high quality setting on the camcorder.

I had no problems with audio. The motor, which could be heard during recording and playback (on the camcorder) was not recorded to the video and was not audible when played back on a tv or computer. However, it is very loud, and quickly became annoying. The GS9 recorded a barely noticeable shrill, but the ZR80's motor drowned out softer sounds and was very noticeable on playback (using a TV or computer).

The camcorder doesn't come with the cable needed to hook it up to a computer, but any Firewire card (aka i.Link or ieee 1394) you buy comes with the cable, so that's not much of an issue.

However, I was peeved that most of the packaged software were demo or trial versions.

I spent some time trying to find a Minidv camcorder under $400 that had great low light capabilities. I ended up with JVC's GR-D33, and here's what I found after shooting some test footage and making a DVD:

The picture quality of footage shot outside was outstanding and never looked digital. The low light capabilities are in fact impressive. Footage shot in my basement (less light than a "low light situation") was clear and wasn't too pixilated. There is a neat backlight feature that cancels out background light to record detail of the subject in the foreground. The motor noises from the camera and the zoom can be heard on tape only when recording in quiet situations, but this shouldn't be a problem under any normal circumstances. My Windows XP system saw the camera when I Firewire'd it to the computer. I captured footage in the native DV format, edited it, made a DVD to watch on TV, and was extremely impressed by the quality of the picture. This is a fantastic no-frills camera with great low light performance, and is a steal at the price.

I was looking for an inexpensive digital camcorder (i do own a very good digital camera) and this fit the budget perfectly. Its very easy to use on auto mode (it does have a manual mode for savvy users) and the video quality is great even indoors on dim light situations. The audio quality is good (though the mic is not external) and there is no motor noise that i've seen people complain about in other camcorders.

Pros:

Great quality, incredible value, easy to use.

Cons:

Remote control for play back.

I can tell you from personal experience with JVC mini camcorders that purchasing one is an expensive mistake. Even with a protection plan from Circuit City, Best Buy, etc., the units are EXTREMELY fragile (esp. the cassette loading/ejecting apparatus) and the now infamous "E04 Safeguard Mode" (go ahead, Google it) message will eventually appear and that will be the end of recording digital videos with a JVC mini DV camera. Further, JVC support is nonexistent with regard to these error messages and how to correct them.

Motion Activated AC Adapter Hidden Camera Self-Recording Spy DVR - PRO Model with 8GB SD Card

Motion Activated AC Adapter Hidden Camera Self-Recording Spy DVR - PRO Model with 8GB SD CardI have tried at least 4 other type of hidden cameras without much success. Some were difficult to set up or use, while others were not really hidden. This hidden camera in an AC adapter is definitely the most discrete camera I have found and it actually works pretty well. My humble thoughts on the pros and cons of this device:

PROs:

Very discrete, you can plug it in to an AC outlet and start using it immediately. The camera opening is not visible at all. If you don't know it's a hidden camera, you won't even know the lens opening no matter how closely you look at it it's that discrete!

No batteries required, runs from power in the AC outlet. The cable attached to the end of the charger is not really required, I simply leave the charger plugged in without the cord. But you can attach it if you want to give the impression that it is actually charging something.

Motion activated, good this so it doesn't unnecessarily use up the SD card memory by recording empty walls when no one is in the room

Easy set up. Actually doesn't require any set up at all. Insert the memory card into the slot and you're good to go.

Decent video quality. It's not HD but it's clear enough to know what's going on. Not too grainy as some of the other devices I have tried. Overall not bad.

Playback simply remove the memory card and plug it into your PC. I think it records in AVI format. Whatever format it is, it runs fine on my Media Player.

CONs:

EXPENSIVE!! The price for a simple charger made of plastic is ridiculously high!! Most other devices sell for $40-50 or thereabout.

30-second recording The device records 30 seconds at a stretch. If there is continued motion, it will stop and start recording again (I think the interval between each stop and start is 1 min, but I'm not entirely sure of the exact time break).

No sound sound would have been a perfect addition of features to this device.

Port for the wire I think it will help tremendously if they simply include a USB port at the end of the charger instead of the current micro charging port they currently have, which only attaches the hanging wire without actually charging anything. A USB port will help charge a device so the charger doesn't look so out of place just sitting in the outlet by itself with nothing connected.

Yes, it is an expensive device for what you get, but this seems to be the only good device that we have been able to find. If this was priced more reasonably (I think around $40-70), I would have gladly given it 5 stars.

This is a great device and does exactly what the description claims. Works great as a security camera. A couple notes on the recording though:

1When motion is detected, it records one minute of video (not 30 seconds like other review(s) state. After that minute it will "black out" for 30 seconds, after which it can record again next time motion is detected.

2There is no audio available in the US. The manual does show a microphone but after checking the manufacturer website, they claim that units sold in the US has no mic/mic disabled. Presumably this is due to wiretapping concerns.

3Yes the video codec is unusual. Windows Media player (on default windows 7 install) cannot play the video files. And Quicktime didn't recognize it on my Macbook pro either. I recommend getting VLC player (free) which plays everything, so you never have to think about codecs again.

Pros:

good picture quality, considering the size. 720X480. I've seen other cameras that claim the same resolution but this one has good contrast and color depth.

very efficient on disk space. The 8-GB card can handle several days monitoring, depending on amount of motion in the room (Each 1-minute clip is 22.3 MB).

extremely discreet. you really won't recognize it as a camera, even if you know it's a camera and know where the lens is, you can't see the lens from > 5 feet away.

no batteries to worry about. With a large enough SD card you can monitor a space for months.

cons:

1 minute record time sometimes misses important details.

uses quite a bit of power when not recording...it keeps the camera on to detect motion.

no audio in the US.

not good in low-light applications.

This item is very disppointingLooks great, but only records 60 seconds at a time. After a pause, it records another 60 seconds if motion is still detected.

It should record as long as there is motion, but it does not...you can miss alot of evidence using this product!

Expensivethere are other cheaper covert products that perform way better.

Inside, worked great. The motion sensing lags a little so make sure you have it set far enough back to see the action for several seconds. I needed to watch something going on in my garage and it seemed like when the unit is in hot temperatures (late summer), it just recorded snow. But inside, picture was clear and color was good. The unit itself is top notch in being stealthy. I was afraid the lens would be visible, I had to look for it. What I like about this concept is power adapters are everywhere so it is never out of place. Con is the price.

If you have a MAC you need to download a video converter. Did this and the video worked well for 3 weeks, except no sound on recording. Then it stopped recording video all of a sudden. I replaced the Scandisk with a 16GB one and it worked again for about a week then it stopped recording again. Hasn't worked since. Vendor agreed to a refund.

Motorola RIZR Z3 Unlocked Cell Phone with 2 MP Camera, MP3/Video Player, MicroSD Slot--Internationa

Motorola RIZR Z3 Unlocked Cell Phone with 2 MP Camera, MP3/Video Player, MicroSD Slot--International Version with WarrantyI ordered this Phone because I have really good experiences with Motorola Phones before. This Phone surprised me because the body kit was already loose and it looked cheap.By that I mean that I knew that the phone won't last long and it didn't. The second thing I noticed was that the phone wouldn't charge with the charger. The only way I could charge it was with an USB cable. After 1 month the Motorola sign at the top of the phone came off too. I also had problems hearing the caller, the call sounded muffled.I don't know if this model of phone has these problems in general or if I have been sold a bad phone. All I know is that I am very disappointed

While many people have said that they do not like this phone because of the small keys, as a female I have not found them to be too small and I have average size hands.

I do text, everyday, perhaps not as often as others, but nevertheless, find the texting not to be an issue.

PROS

I love the camera, my phone came with a USB connector, it is so easy for me to transfer pictures. THE FLASH is amazing!! it is so bright, i like using it as a flash light

The mp3 player has amazing speakers

I bought this phone so i would have a good camera, mp3 player all rolled into one for me.

One thing i dont' like is that it won't take really big memory cards (8gb) i think its limit is 1 gb.

Overall i have been pleased i have had it for about 5 months now. One thing i don't like is that it doesn't display the date, just the time, but that really isn't that big of a deal.

I bought this to replace the RAZR that my two year old destroyed. I like the slider because it feels sturdier. The only problems I've had have been technical I can't log on to the internet, thereby prohibiting downloads ringtones, games, etc. Of course, this might be user error.

Also, the keypad is smaller, making texting a bit slower as I become accustomed to the difference.

This phone has a great look. But I don't like the software. For example, you can't even input multiple phones numbers for the same contact person. User Interface can be confusing at first. Overall, it is a decent phone.

It is not a habit of mine to post reviews and comments but after you notice that you have been scammed it is only important for you to write something to assist others in not making the same mistakes.

I got this phone back in 2011 and it only took about a week until the phone started giving problems, the main button was not working but with some nifty navigation you could still make calls though it was a pain in the neck. After about a month of use the charging stopped and unless you wiggle the connection it would start charging again. It got to the point to where the contact for the charger got messed up so I stopped using it.

It is now Feb 2013, yeah been quite a while but here goes. I was unearthing some stuff from storage and came across the phone and I figured why not open it up to see if maybe contacts inside were the culprit of the phone not working. Before going at the screws I realized that the phone had previously been opened and after i finished unscrewing it I noticed a piece of masking tape that was making an ill fated attempt at holding up some connections inside the slider. Too bad it took me so long to realize this but it is never too late to warn people of these types of scoundrels that make money by scamming others. It totally screws it up for others, I don't even have confidence buying on Amazon as a result of this.

Memorex MB002 Digital Voice Recorder

Memorex MB002 Digital Voice RecorderI wanted a basic memo voice recorder to give as a gift. This was the cheapest one I could find that had a decent amount of features. But, it somewhat shows how cheap it is...

The size of this recorder (according to the specs) appears to be about the same as other competing units, but it is actually a little bigger than it should be. If it was about an inch shorter, it would fit better in your hand. The recording quality is a little scratchy, but my main complaint is that it doesn't play loud enough to hear it without turning up the volume so much that its audio quality is very scratchy.

Another problem is it makes clicking sounds through the speaker when buttons are pressed or options are changed. I would only recommend this recorder for very limited voice memo activities and when you are looking for a cheaper device.

I had bought this unit somewhere else, and the next day it went right back. VOX did not work as described, and the sound quality was worse than the worst worn-out micro tape unit I have ever had the displeasure to listen to. In the electronics world, the word "digital" implies pristine, crisp sound, yet this unit not only plays back as if you spoke through a folded towel, it also swallows entire syllables. Makes me shy away from other Memorex products. I'm amazed they even put such a stinker on the market.

Buy Memorex MB002 Digital Voice Recorder Now

The price was right. It performs well with one hand and yes it is a little scratchy sounding at full volume, but I put it up to my ear anyway so that others around me can't hear. I just hope it lasts for at least 1 year. That was the lifespan of my last (radioshack brand) voice recorder. By the way, the size is about right. It's not so small that it gets lost in your pocket yet not so large that it won't fit along with your keys and a pack of gum.

I am using this recorder and I find it very convenient tool for recording contact information while talking to people. Its size and weight makes it a very handy and attractive gadget.

Okay this is a "value" priced digital recorder. It does largely perform as advertised. The problem is that if you really need a digital recorder, than you will need a better model than this. Otherwise you will find you use this a few times and than it sits in a drawer. Save your bucks and buy something you really need.

Blackmagic Design Intensity Shuttle for USB 3.0 Computers, Capture and Playback Professional Qualit

Blackmagic Design Intensity Shuttle for USB 3.0 Computers, Capture and Playback Professional Quality HDMI and Component Analog Video in Both SD and HDI read every review here before buying, and to be honest, you almost dissuaded me from my purchase. I figured that I would give it a shot. I spoke with Black Magic for a total of a few hours as well. They told me that I would need a 4 drive RAID 0 array to capture uncompressed HD, though I'm getting by just fine with a 3 drive array. Even then, I'm finding myself capturing in compressed anyways because uncompressed 720p from my Xbox 360 takes about 8GB per minute, where compressed is closer to 500MB per minute, and the quality is still rather good, though not as good. Once I got everything set up and configured correctly, it has been making very high quality videos. One gotcha that I found was that if you don't have the 360 configured to output in the exact same way that you have the Black Magic software configured, then you'll just get a black screen, but if it's all set up correctly, you'll be good to go. I'm using a non-supported motherboard in the family of supported ones. I think it supports the GIGABYTE UD5 and I'm using the UD3 with no problems. My biggest advice for people thinking about purchasing this device is to do your homework and make sure that you have the necessary PC hardware before spending the money. Call Black Magic too...they will tell you if your system is not going to work. I'm loving it so far.

A lot of people have been complaining about this product not working on their computer. A large number of them are from people who don't know how to read. This is a finicky product as stated clearly in the product's description, it requires USB 3.0 due to the huge bandwidth requirements of HDMI, and a motherboard with the x58 chipset. So all those people trying it on USB 2.0? Idiots.

I suspect that a lot of the other people who are complaining are people who ignored the "warning read this before installing" insert that came with the product informing you to update the NEC USB 3.0 drivers and where you can update them. This product will not work if your drivers are too old. I can understand why people were having problems with a product geared at those who are technically proficient.

The documentation that comes with the product is very good well illustrated, in color.

It's way better than those crappy HD-PVR type devices because it can capture from HDMI, and most importantly, LOSSLESSLY, instead of re-encoding everything on the fly by itself. Those HD-PVR boxes produce horrible encodes; but if you take video captured losslessly from a Design Intensity Shuttle and do a proper encode later with x264, your video will look excellent.

So I give this product a high rating, because despite being very picky on what hardware it works with, if you've got the proper equipment it works well. Right now this is hundreds of dollars cheaper than any other HDMI capture solution on the market.

Before I end this review let me give you the few "cons" I noticed:

-It doesn't support 1080p60. This is what the Xbox 360 and PS3 output when set to 1080p. So you have to set them to 1080i.

-You have to have their software or VirtualDub open for the device to pass through HDMI to the output port.

-It obeys the law meaning it doesn't work with HDCP-compliant signals. You'll have to order a separate piece of hardware to strip out the HDCP from the HDMI signal if you're using a device that puts HDCP on the signal. Xbox 360 outputs HDCP-free signal when playing games or at the dashboard. PS3 uses HDCP at all times so you have to use an HDCP stripper or use custom firmware and trick your PS3 into thinking it's a development unit which allows you to disable HDCP. Blu-ray players, cable DVRs, etc. will all likely use HDCP.

-Default lossless compression is very hard drive intensive requiring write speeds above 1 Gbps (120 MB/sec). If you want to capture video losslessly I recommend using VirtualDub instead of the default software with the modified huffyuv codec for HDYC. HuffyUV (HDYC mod) or AMV2MT both lower the maximum required speed of your hard drives from 1 Gbps+ to 300-500 Mbps (35-65 MB/sec). And yes, the video is still completely lossless (no quality lost.) Amazon is dumb and won't let you link to stuff in reviews so I hope you know how to use Google to find them.

Confirmed /working/ on a P67 after lots of frustration. Tried lots of driver versions and combinations, be sure to be using the latest drivers and firmwares of /everything/. The FTW model of the P67 uses a VIA USB3.0 chipset (this is the one I have). The SLI model seems to have an NEC chipset, while the mini model seems to have an ASMEDIA(?) chipset. So YMMV if you get one of the other ones.

Tested with a Xbox 360 Demo Kit (for Developers) and a Hannspree ST259MUB 25" 1080p 60Hz LCD HDTV.

Modes that I got working were:

HDMI (HDCP disabled on Devkit): NTSC (480i), 720p59.94 (720p), 1080i59.94 (1080i).

Component: NTSC (480i), 720p59.94 (720p), 1080i59.94 (1080i).

S-Video: NTSC (480i).

Composite: NTSC (480i).

The Shuttle does NOT support the required 1080p resolution for the 360, which is 1080p60 (not 1080p59.94, even though 59.94 seems more inline with other results).

A retail 360 can be used with this over HDMI, component, s-video, or composite. HDMI will work most of the time, unless a game turns on HDCP specifically. Most games do not. All movies do.

A retail PS3 can be used with this over component, composite, or s-video. HDMI rarely works with retail PS3 because they always have HDCP on. Supposedly an HD-FURY2 can help with this, I have not tested it yet.

A PS3 Devkit can used with this over HDMI, component, s-video, or compisite as HDCP can be disabled on them (also disabled movie playing).

A Retail Wii or Wii Devkit can be used with this over component, s-video, or composite.

Captures were confirmed to be in 8bit YUV as AVI, 10bit YUV as AVI, Motion JPEG as AVI, and 10bit RGB as DPX. Hardware does NOT claim to capture 4:4:4, only 4:2:2; I did not verify this. I had a dropped frame every so often, but this might have been cable noise. The software never complained about bandwidth being exceeded (which some people report as happening when they get dropped frames).

I had to reboot the machine any time I made a setting change either to what type of input to capture or what resolution/refresh rate for it to actually work. Resolutions were not autodetected from source, they must be manually set in software after setting it on source. If the device or cable were jostled, the software would typically corrupt the current capture file, crash/freeze, or BSOD. Sometimes changing a setting would crash/freeze or BSOD.

Pass-thru ONLY works when the BlackMagic Media Express software is running AND focused.

Pass-thru seems to always upscale/downscale output from selected input (I had selected S-video input and realized it was outputting on HDMI). Both pass-thru and Media Express preview both appear to have little to no delay/latency.

When playing back a capture through the Media Express software, it gets routed to the outputs of the device so that it is viewable on the TV plugged in.

Ultimately, I returned this product as it was too finicky and did not capture the resolution/refresh rate that I needed even though it was advertised as "Full HD".

Edited: Corrected X360 1080p refresh rate.

I just finished building a system for video editing. Here is the break down

i7 2600k (overclocked to 4ghz)

16gb DDR3160000

4 5400 RPM 2tb Hitachi drives (red write speeds over 550mbps)

dual gtx 560 graphics cards

CS5.5 masters collection

Gygabyte z68 motherboard

According to their website my hardware falls under the "or better" category because i bought the latest versions of the suggested products.

I went through their instructions multiple times making sure i had the latest firmware for my USB 3.0 and all other

After going through multiple rounds of technical support taking me outside of my return window for this product I ended up with this information about my motherboard

"For now we are going to say they are not supported." Now I am left with this $200 piece of hardware that the seller will not take back, the manufacturer has left me with unsupported hardware and no solutions. I was going to go ahead and buy a PCI-E USB 3.0 card to use with this but the ones suggest by the manufacturer are either discontinued or as far as i can find no longer for sale. Their list of compatable hardware, however, has not been updated since the release of the product.

I read a lot of reviews for this product that seemed like relatively technically unskilled users having problems with hardware not being up to par. Well I have 4 years of video editing experience and before that 5 years of computer support and repair. I can tell you for a fact that this product has poor compatibility and unless you buy the exact hardware listed on their website and ignore the fact that this is now 2 generations old, you WILL NOT be able to get this to work.

Please, I beg of you. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT. Buy the Matrox or the Motu box. Or maybe buy the PCI-E version of this product. Buy anything but this. I know its the cheapest and seemingly most versatile product for capturing HDMI on the market but I promise that the time you will spend pulling out your hair is well worth the extra money for a more expensive option.

To start off, I am a software developer that is also a huge hardware hobbyist. So I am pretty tech knowledgable. This product is captures video at high resolution so it is understandable that you need to have a fast CPU. Basically your computer is getting 10GB+ a minute of raw video data. What is not understandable is that after so long the unit is still so temperamental when it comes to what USB 3 chipset and driver you use.

It is nearly at the point where it should be bundled with a PC. When I bought this a year ago, I had to buy another USB 3 card despite the fact that I already had USB 3 chipset. Then Blackmagic directed me to some French driver site to get the driver but it no longer existed at that link. Finally I found Intel had a board with this chipset and that driver worked. I understand there are differences between chipsets but the driver should handle that!

If you would like to use this with a laptop you better make sure that it is tested good with this unit as it is really impossible to know if it will work otherwise. My Sony Vaio Z does work with it. Otherwise you need to get the Pluggable technologies card for a desktop and now at least Pluggable is putting the driver on their site.

Still I would think now that USB 3 is not a new technology any more Blackmagic would have settled their driver issues. When it works it works wonderful but this level of specificity should not be the case from something that claims to be USB 3.0. Also do not upgrade to Windows 8, it will BSOD immediately with the Shuttle.

AVerMedia C283S HD EzRecorder Plus- Record Off Your HD Set-top Box 1080p

AVerMedia C283S HD EzRecorder Plus- Record Off Your HD Set-top Box 1080pArticle first published as Product Review: AverMedia HD EzRecorder Plus on Blogcritics.

My first experience with AVerMedia was at the Show Stoppers event at the E3 Expo in Los Angeles, earlier this year. Probably best known for their PC game capture devices, the Taiwanese company recently released a capture device for gaming consoles. Often used for capturing the action in games or for walkthroughs, the game capture device, which came with adapters for the three major consoles, received mostly positive reviews. Building on that success, AVerMedia has now released a DVR device, the HD EzRecorder Plus.

AVerMedia's HD EzRecorder Plus is a standalone video capture box which allows users to preserve HD TV shows, or record your own content in 720p or 1080i. As an added feature, the recorder also allows the user to take snapshots with the press of a button. Standalone however does not mean that it is usable straight out of the box. The EZ Recorder Plus does not include storage however, there are a few options. If you flip the box over, there is a door where a standard 2.5 inch SATA hard drive can be installed. The box also has a front USB port where a flash drive or external USB hard drive can be plugged. The device also allows transferring from the installed hard drive to the USB device.

Once you have your storage situation straightened out, you can hook the device up to your system. While not designed for gaming applications, anything with component video outputs can be plugged into the device and recorded. What the HD EzRecorder is designed for, is working as a DVR. The package includes an infrared blaster to control whatever set-top box you own. Though only a couple of devices are preloaded, the EzRecorder will learn your remote well enough to turn on and change the channel on your set top box. The HD EzRecorder Plus offers a cyclic schedule recording function so, it can independently handle the whole video recording task without using a PC. You can of course just use the included remote to record on the fly.

At the max resolution of 720, the HD EzRecorder Plus did an impressive job of capturing video. Leaving the setting at optimal or 15 Mbps will allow recording a little over an hour on an 8GB memory stick or 125 hours on a 1TB hard drive. The still pictures will be captured at the same resolution of 1280 X 720. Dropping down to 480p will nearly double the recording capabilities. Besides the six resolution options of: 1080i, 720p, 480i/p, and 576i/p, the bit rate has two lower settings, as well. With a 1TB hard drive at the lowest resolution and bit rate, users could record 650 hours. If you want your TV shows for your phone, that setting is probably fine.

The pretty straightforward menu makes pulling the files off of the HD EzRecorder fairly easy. The problem most users will have is that the avi file format is incompatible with most other software and devices. The AVerMedia website does contain links to file converters so that the media can be played on mobile devices. The native H.264 compression is also incompatible with Real Producer and Sony Vegas or Vegas Pro and will need to be converted before editing, which is bound to result in some loss. It is also worth noting that as good as the captured video looks, the audio is only captured in stereo.

I must confess that I like the HD EzRecorder Plus more than I thought I would. The box is nice looking and the menu system is straightforward and easy to use. The remote, while basic is better than others I have seen and used too. The biggest problems that I found with the device are a terrible adhesive for the IR blaster and an HDMI input would have been useful. Actually considering the cost and additional equipment necessary, HDMI really should have been included. That being said, the component pass-through works fine. Most users most likely have a DVR in the living room, on the main TV in the house and this would be used on a secondary setup because the STB must be playing whatever it is you want to record. With that in mind, the HD EzRecorder Plus works very well in that type of usage and produces great video and sound quality for smaller TVs and mobile devices.

Hi

I see this product is new and I am the 1st reviewer.

I just received the device and hooked it up. One thing to note with the hookup which is annoying. It is component cables and not an hdmi cable. I didn't know this but I had to disconnect the HDMI cable from the cable box in order for the component cables to work. If both are connected then your HDMI cable has priority and the component cables will not work. I did a couple of tests and it worked well with a USB connected hard drive. It does change the channel as requested and is in HD. I do think the HD quality is a tiny bit worse via the component cables vs an HDMI. This may require additional testing though. It is basically a digital VCR. While it records shows like a TIVO or your cable company's DVR it does not have the advanced features of the other 2 (more expensive options). If you are happy in setting the date and time for your recordings manually without being able to do so from your pc or phone then this works fine for you. Also, it saves the file as an AVI. so you can watch it on a laptop if you are traveling.

I have 2 TVs (living room and bedroom) that I watch often. I may get a 3rd (less expensive tv for the 2nd bedroom) for this unit since I fear it may affect my HD broadcasts.

I hope in the next version of this device that they scrap the component cables and add HDMI ports. I would like to see 3 inputs (cable box, video game, laptop, video camera, blue ray) and 1 output (TV).

FIRST THE GOOD:

The picture quality that can been recorded is great. It gives you 3 quality selections.

You can play them back from this box.

It does the job of recording from a set to box, even a Tivo.

I have even recorded those programs that have copy protection on them.

It takes a hard drive. (up to 2 TB) and it has a USB port that can accommodate a pen (flash) drive or a USB hard drive. Either one can be used to record to. (Not both at the same time.)

The AverMedia box can output a IR signal to change the channel of the set top box. (It has a setup that learns from your existing remote.)

NOW THE BAD:

You setup the scheduled recording time MANUALLY and the length of the recordings can only be set in hourly increments.

Only 1 hour or 2 hours or 3 hours etc. There is no way to set it to 1.5 hours or 30 minutes etc.

Because of this you have recordings that are always too long and you have to edit them to make them right.

All recordings are named something like REC-1155130413 which is a Time & date name. There is no way to change or edit this.

USB IS 2.0 SLOW!

You can put in a USB Drive and copy from the internal one you installed to the USB drive, but the file copy progress menu is always displayed on the screen and this prevents you from viewing any TV while it is copying.

I contacted Avermedia about this and the said that there is no way to get rid of the copying display that covers your tv screen

They said it was there to let you know that the copy is going and if it was successful. They could hid the copy dialog screen and pop up a finished message when it was completed but they don't see it that way and wont make the change. They should at least make the display very small and put it in the corner of the screen.

With USB 2.0 this is very slow. I have a very fast SSD drive installed and a fast Flash pen drive installed. (Still slow.)

It has no LAN connection so you can not Move, Copy or Watch the shows from your computer.

I brought this unit to copy programs off my set top box (Tivo) and keep them on my computer to share on my home network.

This box makes it hard to do that.

MY WORKAROUND:

I HAVE COME UP WITH A WORKAROUND FOR THIS PROBLEM:

I use a 1 TB USB drive connected to the USB port.

I don't even put a drive in the internal slot in the box.

I record to the USB drive and I have a USB switch that lets me switch the USB Drive to my computer.

I then can rename and copy the program to my computer. No more copying screens blocking the TV and much faster copying into the computer. You could just unplug the USB drive and move it to your computer for the renaming & copying but my setup is right next to the computer so a switch works well for me.

I guess if you just want to record from a dumb set top box this unit is OK . You will have to remember the file name it creates because it will be hard to select 1 of many to play back later.

If they come up with new firmware I will update this review. Review data 4-13-2013

Hooked it up, pushed in a external usb hdd, set it up and it worked. Simple to use, great recording quality, pull the external HDD, hook it up to the pc and make blue ray movies! I defintely recommend this for those that want to record television programs to play back or make DVD's with. The only negative is the IR until doesn't stick to the set top box well and covers the window on mine so much that it affects my remote. Oh yeah, the channel option is only 3 numbers long, so if I want to record channel 1301 I have to manually change the channel and start the recording. I suspect there's a firmware update coming, but who knows?
