1) When I called to speak with customer service, they picked up the phone directly. Three times!
2) I've read reviews of various USB/MIDI converters that discuss an issue with lag. According to the customer service at eMedia, some on board sound cards are slow to process the sound from the keyboard, which can cause a lag. In these cases, I'm not sure it matters what USB/MIDI converter you use.
3) I purchased this for 29.99, so shop around. The cable worked out of the box with the shareware Synthesia product. No lag, and it found it right away. And with synthesia, you have the full range of sounds available through your computer speakers. Within 10 minutes, I had my kids playing bird tweets and helicopter with their left and right hands respectively, on my yamaha keyboard, with the sound coming out of the laptop speakers.
Negative:
You have to have the CD in the drive to run the training software. If you know how, I believe you can copy the CD to your hard drive and mount it as a logical CD drive. Your mileage may vary.
Overally, $30 for a working cable is a decent deal. With the educational software included, it seems to be a great deal!
