I ordered a new Sharp SD-PX2 and I was disappointed that the component video outputs did not work. In general, the design of the system was excellent, but the construction seemed cheap. I returned the unit and received another. It was also new. This time, the right audio channel did not work in a stereo set-up. My suggestion is to go with something else.

Big Selling Point.... Mounts on wall. other than that, it has a cool slide open electric door thingy for the DVD, kinda makes me worried, not because of cheap construction... but because in my experience... bells and wistles break. other than that nice functionalitygood souns, dvd playback and overall a good value.

I bought one of these because I needed to replace much larger audio components. A new house just didn't have the space for a big rack of equipment. At the same time I didn't want to go with a micro bookshelf system. The Sharp SD-PX2 is the ONLY product I found that would fit that wasn't an HTIB. It sits on a narrow shelf and is paired with an Orb Audio speaker system. I love the looks of this little thing, but the case is unfortunately made of plastic.

This is essentially one half a Home Theater in a Box (HTIB). But rather than package it with their own speakers, Sharp allows to pair this unit with speakers of your choice. This unit gives the convenience of HTIB but allows for significally better performance by allowing you to choose your own speaker system.

The sound and video quality are both decent, though not phenomenal. The amp is 25 watts by 5 channels, which is somewhat underpowered for a home-theater set up, so you'll want to pair it with effecient speakers.

PRO's

* Style

* Convenience of a single unit for amp and DVD/CD

* Cost: I purchased this for around $150. You can't buy a seperate DVD player and reciever for that amount.

CON's

* The remote is not great. Layout is confusing and there is no backlighting

* Skimpy connectivity options. There are only three audio inputs. For some inexplicable reason, the headphone jack is on the back side.

Amazon lists the base price for this at over $500, but I picked one up for about $150. For that amount, this is an amazing machine that brings some high-end sound and features to a low-end price point.
