Here are my needs:
Support regular DV videos from my previous camcorder
Support HD video, 1080P, from the TM900
Standard video editing capabilities
Write to blu-ray format for the HD sources
Write to standard DVD for the remaining DV tapes
Create YT appropriate files for both the HD and DV videos
No need for the 3D capability -so this opinion does not related to those who need this feature
At this point, I have gone through all of these use cases listed above, and the s/w has delivered adequately for all my needs. For my use, I don't really do anything particularly fancy. Most of the editing and DVD production features that I need are fairly straightforward needs, and I haven't had any problems with this version. I find the video editing s/w very intuitive and easy to use. The DVD Architect feels a little more quirky, and certainly not the easiest to use. But I can produce what I want to produce with the DVD Architect.
My PC has a quad-core processor, and 4GB of memory. The s/w has been absolutely stable on this box -no crashes. I do not know if the s/w actually makes use of the multiple cores during rendering -since that is by far the longest lead time part of the process. Rendering the HD videos without having the camera attached is a mistake. I learned it the hard way the first time I tried it. Other than the rude shock of how long the HD rendering takes, I am very pleased with the s/w.
My only real beef with Vegas has the audio processing capabilities included in the package. There are multiple versions of similar effects included, and the documentation to help use the right set of filters is lacking. But if you are not picky about the audio, you probably would not care about this limitation.

After years of purchasing different versions of Adobe's home video editing software and trying various trial versions of other companies software I decided to try something different. Sony Vegas Studio 11 is not as immediately user friendly as Adobe purports to be but with minimal effort (watch YouTube videos) you can quickly get comfortable with the software.It has very powerful tools and the available tools will most likely exceed the requirements or abilities of your average home video editor.
The greatest thing about this software is it just WORKS I have yet to encounter a single crash even with my 4 year old computer and the output videos work. Continual crashes were the norm with my previous software choices.

unless you are a pro or are commited to the process, don't even think about dualstream. here's the statement from sonycreativesoftware.com

i'm just purchased the Sony HDR-TD10 High Definition 3D Handycam Camcorder with 10x Optical Zoom (Dark Gray)
the only full hd 3d mvc format recording camcorder on the consumer level market and i was looking for a way to burn 3d bluray. and the top statement sums up my dissapointment with this software. i just want to take the files off my camcorder, view them, edit them, and put the finished product on a 3d blu-ray disc in the full resolution 3d spec, i don't care about the menus or the other fancy stuff, just 3d blu ray at the full 1080/60i i recorded my stuff in. i got everything i wanted except a no go on the 3d blu ray spec. if i was stuck without the ablity to make a full hd res 3d disc, i might as well have purchased the inferior Panasonic HDC-SDT750K, High Definition 3D Camcorder and saved the $750. i dont want a 8x9 square 3d image, or a half res 1080x960 streched to 1080x1920. sony, i paid $1500 for your camcorder, why can't i burn a 3d bluray disc in full MVC?
the 3d ablity of this software is basicly the only things that they have upgraded from vegas 10. oh yeah, and you can also upload 3d video to you tube. whoo-hoo. it's still a powerful software bundle. (that's why i'm only taking off one star for my particular issue.) If you are ok with what it can do with 3d, than by all means, go for it, but if you dont need 3d, are dissatisfied with the inablity to burn 3d in full spec to BD, or are simply trying to upgrade from 10, pass for now and hope for an update.

"The Burn Blu-ray Disc feature has been updated for compliance with the Blu-ray Disc specification. You can render 3D projects to a Blu-ray 3D Disc image file (.iso) from the timeline (Tools > Burn Disc > Blu-ray Disc). This feature is intended for commercial BD-ROM preparation testing."
i have yet to test this feature but it looks like we're moving in the right direction

This is a very powerful piece of software, but it is not well designed. Although it is a great value in terms of Video Editing Software, it is not as intuitive as other packages of the same class. Also, after using it for a short while, I am having problems recently getting the application to open. Sony Vegas is arguably the best bang for your buck video editing software on the market today. While the learning curve can be a little steep and it has some limitations, overall it's a fantastic package that hits the spot for most amateur video editing endeavors. I've tried a whole bunch of programs and this one seems to be the best value for money especially once you take the time to learn it properly.Sony has 4 different versions of the Vegas software suite, ranging from the low end Studio HD to the high end Pro. The HD Platinum version sits somewhere in the middle and offers most of the features that you'd require for a range of different projects. Most users won't require the features offered in the Pro version (though sometimes I wish some of them were available as paid plugins for HD Platinum).
It's got some fantastic features like automatic splitting between video and sound, quick video splitting with the press of a button, lots of effects including the ability to use a 'green screen' effect, easy sound/image fading, text effects, slow motion, credits, drag/drop clips, export to YouTube, layers, etc. It really does have most of the tools that you'll require to create some kick ass movies, quickly and efficiently.
It's also got fantastic help and tutorials. Plus there are lots of YouTube tutorials too.
Over all, it's a fantastic piece of software for the price which I highly recommend!
