Sony ADPCM1 Wind Screen for the PCM-D1 and PCM-D50 Linear PCM Recorders

This windscreen is absolutely essential for routine use of the PCM-D50. I've used it to help ensure that vocal plosives are minimized and that I can record outdoors in moderately windy conditions. That said, there's no reason why what's essentially a fuzzy sock end should cost $50. But unless you can come up with alternative yourself, you'll need this accessory. Shame on Sony for not including it with this high-end digital recorder.

This thing is WAY overpriced, BUT IT IS COMPLETELY NECESSARY. The Sony recorder is absolutely unbelievable, and all that loveliness of sound quality goes out the window from even breath noise, never mind wind, if you don't have blimp like this over the mics. Unless you're good with a needle (this is simple, hairy polyester the band isn't even elastic, though that would be a really good idea), you have to buy this. If you can sew, make it yourself. Even I could have done this if I had known how simple it is.

It's good but it doesn't seem to fit too securely to the top of the recorder. I have to mess with it a bit to get to fit properly round the top cage. At this price I would expect a little better from Sony
