This recorder has worked perfectly, I leave it in my dress shirt pocket and it records everything. I can listen to conversations in my office easily, and have even recorded conversations in restaurants and while walking outdoors i just need to turn the volume up to maximum when playing it back, but it recorded the other person's voice just fine. It interfaces with all my various computers easily enough, just plug and play the wav file.

The recording USZB flash drive was repackaged with a slip of paper added for instructions. I tried recording and plugging into my Win-7 PC, but could never get it to register without an error saying "Please insert disk". Supplier is in China and the time and money needed to send it back isn't worth it, but maybe that's the idea?

I bought this player about three months ago, and here's my experience with this unit.

-Design: 4/5. The unit is sharp-looking, with a nice silver chrome finish that's pretty durable. I have the purple "hip hues" version and despite its toy-like appearance it stands up pretty well to wear and tear, and the "psychedelic" look is unique. A point off for the lack of functions on the unit itself; it's pretty much play, stop, a/b view, fast forward and reverse. Everything else is on the remote, which could have matched the look of the unit a bit more.

-Portability: 5/5. Small, sleek and easy to transport. Great if you want a unit that you can easily move from room to room, bring to a friend's place, or, of course, for traveling. Setup with the audio/video outputs (or s-video) is a snap for the majority of televisions and adapters are easy to find for monitors without a/v inputs.

-Picture Quality / Sound: 4/5. Despite some limitations with Dolby 5/1 and surround sound (this won't give you the same bang in that area as most standard-sized players) the stereo audio is excellent on this unit. My dvd of "Showgirls" played with Cristal-clear sound ;), and Ditto for its mp3 playback, which comes with a nice onscreen display which lays out any folder structures your pc or mac creates on the cd-rom. More good news: the picture quality is superb, as good as any full-sized unit. Color and definition are outstanding. I hooked this up to a 27-inch monitor and played a DVD of "Last Tango in Paris" and it looked as good as on a full-sized Sony DVD deck which was connected to the same tv.

-Performance: 2/5. And now the bad news...the majority of disks should play on this deck. However, the sad truth is that this unit will reject a good number of DVDs. I've been able to play about 90% of DVDs on this deck. Another 5% had problems with skipping or, most aggravatingly, picture freezing. The other 5% won't run at all on this deck, not even registering a DVD menu. The motor will turn, the player will struggle to register with the material, and after a couple of attempts the unit gives up. This player seems to play single-layer DVDs very well, which don't offer a lot of special features (i.e. only a trailer, a couple of stills). I tried to play my Criterion copy of "In the Mood for Love" which is packed with a fully rendered menu and special features; it was a disaster, the player couldn't even register the DVD menu. A rental copy of John Carpenter's "The Thing" which didn't have any noticeable scratches only played about fifteen minutes of the film, then froze. Another DVD which had a small scratch froze in the last five minutes and would only continue if I skipped ahead to the next chapter. On the upside, the majority of disks I've tried on this player have played acceptably, with only occasional problems (see below). It's just sad that the temperamental nature of this unit would generate more suspense in keeping you wondering if it will make it through a whole movie than anything in the actual film you are watching.

-Engineering: 1/5. It's amazing that this thing made it through product testing, if that was even performed on this model. As others have mentioned, one of the major reasons this player malfunctions so much is that it doesn't have proper ventilation. It overheats, so after 1.5 to 2 hours of play (if not sooner) the picture will begin freezing and skipping. If you are watching a disk of television shows in half-and one-hour chunks, that might be fine, but curling up with three hours of "Apocalypse Now Redux"? Not too darn likely. And if your DVD is loaded with special features, the demands placed on this little cutie will cut your viewing time even further. All the special features slow mo, step frame, a/b view, chapter search work as they should (although you can only access most of them on the remote, so don't forget that if you plan on traveling with this player). Overall, the player's tendency to overheat renders it unacceptable for all but the lightest applications. Considering the possibilities of DVDs, that's a huge liability. Also, the remote's buttons are tiny and take some extra pressure to activate---and compared to my other vcr/satellite dish remotes, its lack of range is annoying. Basically you have to aim it directly at the unit, since it seems to have problems when used at angles.

-Suggestions: as others have mentioned, the ac adapter packed with the unit is really bad. Replace it with a compatible adapter from Target or Radio Shack and performance will improve. Some users have mentioned cutting a hole and installing a small fan---for the mechanically uninclined like me, this is not an option. The ac adapter heats up if it's plugged into the socket even when the unit's off, so unplugging the AC adapter from the socket between uses greatly improves performance. Also, setting the unit on top of a well-ventilated area helps, especially if air can pass under the bottom.

Overall, it's a commendable attempt by Koss to produce a small, portable DVD player for multiple purposes and situations. Had the design/engineering team resolved the player's basic problems overheating, incompatibility with some high-performance DVD software, and erratic performance with even basic functions this would have been a winner. Too bad. It could've been a contender.

This pint-sized dvd player does almost everything that all the big boys do. This is about one-third the size of a regular dvd. It has a head-phone jack for personal listening. It's very light.

To tell you the truth, when I looked at the brand name I was kind of skeptical to get this player. Usually I'm a Sony guy, but the price and size were right. The picture is just as good as any of the other dvd's I've seen. That goes for the sound as well.

It also has a lot of features not found in other dvd players. One of which, you can select a portion of a scene and view it over and over again by a button called "A-B." Very useful if you want to examine a part very closely without having to rewind then play then stop, then rewind and so forth. Another feature is being able to view a "Scene" over and over again. This baby's got a volume control also within the dvd player. That way you don't have to switch between controllers so much. It's also NTSC/PAL compliant and VCD 2.0 compatible too. Another thing is that if you burn a cd with jpeg pictures (a type of format that pictures can come in) you can view them on this player. You can take digital pictures, burn them, then view for your family and friends to see on the tv. It also tells you on the screen what scene you're looking at if you press |>|. It also has an optional optical digital output for exceptional viewing (if you don't know what I'm talking about don't worry, just know it's there).

Basic features are Dolby Digital 5.1, MP3 playback, CD/CD-R/CD-RW, Parental controls, zoom. It also has a small LCD screen to tell you which scene or time the dvd is playing. It comes with an AC adapter, A/V wires, and a very handy remote. There's pretty much a button for every feature which is handy for quick clicks. It has S-Video output. Handy buttons on top of the case also for play, stop, rewind, fast-forward, etc.

Small quirks that I have with this player are that it is a bit flimsy. It also gets a bit warm after playing a movie (but I guess that's with any dvd player). There also is no DTS surround sound, but for many that feature won't be needed, I know I won't utilize that.

Overall, I am very happy with this dvd player. I bought it because in my dorm room there isn't much space for a bulky heavy one so when I saw this I grabbed it. Plus, mailing it back and forth between my school and home won't be as expensive this this light and small package. It was a very reasonable price for such a small player.

It may look small and dinky but inside's got a full fledge dvd player. If you're looking for a relatively inexpensive small light dvd player, with some extra features (not found in some of those other brands), opt for getting this one.

In short: this item is so bad that I'm actually amazed that Amazon is carrying it. In fact, giving it one star is far too generous! Sure, the price is alluring, but please -PLEASE! -read the overwhelming number of other negative reviews regarding this item and believe them. I have an extensive (and scrupulously tended) DVD collection (i.e., no scratches, no duds), yet the Koss unit has trouble regarding 9 out 10 discs it's asked to read. The picutre either drops out completely (leaving the tell-tale blue screen) or simply freezes on whatever image in on screen at the time. No amount of coaxing or encouraging will solve this problem. One wonders how, in good conscience, Koss could release this dismal piece of engineering. I've seen much better units in electronics stores for less -do a little searching and your extra effort will be repaid handsomely that way. If you don't want to feel frustrated or foolish (for having paid money for this piece of junk), save your money and go somewhere else!

I bought one of these with some trepidation after reading the reviews posted here--in particular, the concerns about overheating due to a poorly regulated power supply.

The unit I got (not from Amazon) was factory-refurbished by Koss. (it wasn't much cheaper than a new one--so I'd recommend buying new.) To my surprise, it came with a switchmode inline power supply, rather than the linear "wall-wart" supply described by some owners. My trusty Fluke DMM showed the supply's open-circuit output to be 12.21 volts--very good regulation!--and the player was not noticeably warm even after running for a couple of hours.

Now, I can't guarantee you're going to receive the same AC adapter I did. But it looks to me as if Koss recognized that they had a problem with the old linear supply and replaced it with something a lot better regulated, thus eliminating (as far as I can tell) the overheating problem.

With that trouble spot gone, this is a sweet little player for the price...and an exceptionally versatile one, as others have mentioned.

I've played with one of these for about 6 months now. There is a bit of a heat problem as others have mentioned, I hacked mine to install a small fan (mpja.com part 12929 FN) and have not had problems since. I haven't found any format it won't read, from VCD to SVCD to CVD, DVD-R and -RW, JPEGs and MP3's on a DVD. (80 hours of music on one disk!) Outputs for composite video, S-video, and component video, as well as analog and optical digital audio. User interface isn't great, but it works. There are buttons for some functions on the player, but Koss didn't include enough to run a typical DVD, you will need the remote (which reduces its portability somewhat). Video filters are very sharp, which looks really good on some movies but introduces a little edge noise on some others. Runs on 12vdc, I've used mine in my small trailer with a LCD monitor, it's great to be able to take your movies and songs on the road.

This is sold in the USA and video here is NTSC, but the unit is set to PAL. The first line in the instructions say to hook it up to your video monitor with the RCA to BNC connector. This WILL NOT work. I had to hook it up to a VGA monitor and then change the units output from PAL to NTSC to make the video work. For a user without this option, they would be dead in the water.

Other than that, I have it mostly set up without even opening the manual. I do 100% overlap recording, so that is fairly easy to figure out.

I replaced a bad 4 channel CIB unit that failed after 18 months. The hard drive controller is bad, and I couldn't get tech support to give me a price on the part after several phone calls.

Not recommended for those whom looking for reliable recording DVR, the DVR stops recording for several seconds per channel when it setup on alarm recording. I contacted the Customer support. They response saying they would get back to assist me, over three weeks ago no response from this company.

I just purchased it a few months ago. It is set up almost identical to the Swann system and even does some of the same crap. My Swann did not record consistently and Cib is no better. When I do a search it seems to be loosing video over and over. What good does it do to record if it cant keep the recording in order, have a time stamp on it so you can see exactly where you are as you search, and now its not picking up any of my 5 cameras. I also could not get it to switch from one camera to the other based on motion. I was expecting it to be able to do that. It just records all screens the whole time and a little m pops up on the screen. I can be watching someone walk past the camera and the screen goes blank. When I do a search and fast forward or rewind, it freezes or goes blank. The glitches are not something worth dealing with for me. It's not

reliable. Without a time stamp it won't hold up in court and when searching, you can't tell where you are at so you can't mark the time of the occurrence. My only hope is to find a software update on it, I guess. I recommend not buying this unless you have a way of not using the software.

UPDATE: somehow it is back to showing the cameras again, not sure why, so i upped the stars to 3. I still have the other issues to deal with.

UPDATE NUMBER 2: Now I'm getting a time stamp when I do a search after it did it's last reboot. Thank you techs for fixing that issue. It was a big one for me. I have not tried to reset the motion so I don't know if it has been fixed but if it has, I will definitely give it a higher rating. There was an option it does not have in playback that would be really nice. Continuous rewind or playback, and a faster playback time than 8x. It does blackout when I play it back in faster rewings so that would need to be fixed also. Thanks.

DVR will not control High end PTZ cameras. No coaxitron control. Software has many glitches. While reviewing video, hitting play from fast forward will exit the playback function so you have to search and start all over again. gets pretty annoying when you have to review 20 times before you can get to the point of the video you want to see. if its even there. dvr randomly stops recording channels for seconds or minutes at a time periodically. Not good when you are looking for something and the screen blacks out during the time frame you need to see. Works great as a live view/ multiplexer. DVR functions not so good.

Looking for replacement DVD cases for those that you opened in anticipation, only to find the disc frolicking in the case and the teeth from the hub rattling around inside? You know the hubs I am talking about--the five-pointed serpents-head design, where anywhere from one to all five teeth have broken off. The design of the hubs on these replacement cases--three semi-circular tongues--is one that I have never experienced a problem with. What a relief. Now if only the DVD manufacturers would quit sending us that defective crap!

By the way, the seller I used was Square Deal Recordings & Supplies. I cannot say, of course, that the replacement cases from this or any other seller will be what I have described. I spent considerable time on the Internet researching the problem of broken teeth on DVD hubs, looking specifically for a discussion of hub designs, but I found very little. Until sellers of replacement cases directly market them as being one of the better designs--I have seen three: two good, one bad, none ugly--we buyers cannot be sure of what we are getting. (Non-awareness of the problem may account for the mixed reviews of this product.)

To Sellers: Here is a marketing opportunity just waiting for you. Surely I cannot be the only one frustrated by this problem. Educate us on the various hub designs of these 7mm double-DVD slimline cases, and reassure us that we are not just throwing good money after bad on the same cases that have caused us so much grief.

I was undecided between three and four stars because I have yet to find on-line a clear slim double case that is better than these. Good features: Outer case is acceptable and closes tightly against dust. Clear artwork wrap arrived in good condition. I have had these thin plastic covers arrive scratched in some past deliveries due to packing material. Not so good feature: The hub on this slim double case is not as good as on the best slim single Dynex case. I have to press hard and slightly deform this case to remove a disc. The Dynex slim single has a center tab that holds a disc firmly but still allows removal with minimal pressure/effort.

They're pretty decent, but not as good as they could be. Hard to find anything as good a quality as comes in some box sets I've seen. Solid locking mechanism, but plastic a little on the flimsy side.

I bought one of these along with my neighbor from another site about a year ago. The motion detection is absolutely useless, so if you really want that feature buy another DVR. The remote control isn't intuitive at all so it makes it a little annoying to navigate the menus. If you have less than 4 cameras, you can disable the unused video inputs but when you set it to auto cycle through all the cameras, it still shows the blank blue screen for those inputs. Since this is an entry level CCTV DVR, it doesn't multitask, which means you have to stop recording to playback recordings. Other than those complaints the DVR works fairly well. Once in a while when the power goes out, when the DVR starts up it prompts to recover the HD where it left off, I'm not real sure what that means but it will stay at that prompt forever until you answer the question, which means if it happens while you're on vacation there goes your security system until you get back to say YES. This sounds like a negative review but for the price this isn't too bad of a choice. If you can find a DVR with functional motion detection for around this price, I'd get that one instead.

Despite having to install and format the hard drive, I found this recorder to be easy to operate and set up. The directions could use a little work.

This DVR looks good but what i didn't realize was that it's not designed for recording TV shows; it's made to record from security cameras. That's not the main problem, though.

What it should say in big letters in the product description is that YOU NEED TO PLUG A HARDDRIVE INTO IT BEFORE YOU CAN USE THIS DVR AT ALL!

(The company's website says an IDE harddrive but i didn't see where it said what minimum or maximum size you should or could use.)

As the last review of the products states, I too have noticed this DVD player dropping frames (not sound) during DVD playback for no logical reason. Also, I've noticed a white, horizontal line of static appear totally random from time to time during DVD playback also. Furthermore, like other RCA video products I've owned it the past, the video cuts out for a fraction of a second during white desolves (where the screen goes completely white) or thunder effects, explosions, etc. during DVD playback. I would not recommend this player for DVDs. Sony will soon be releasing a new 5-disc changer, the model DVP-C660D to replace its DVP-C650D. This player will also be priced at the $350 mark! I'll keep my RCA DVD/CD Changer as a CD changer only.

All right, you'll see good and bad reviews on this, mostly professional reviewers will give good, and owners bad. I would venture to say that most will not notice the problems till they have owned it for a few weeks.

I have to say that the features built into this player are great, and having the 5 disk changer can allow for movie marathons you wouldn't believe. The problem with this player is that you will get graphical distortions and full frame losses at random times. This can happen as frequently as 10 times in one movie, to none at all. After owning as many electronics as I have in the past, I would venture to guess this might be caused by a touchy power supply, but I'm no electronics engineer. I have recently picked up the 5 disk from Hitachi, which seems to be the exact same piece of hardware, and still maintains the same problems.

Depending on the movie(s) you'll love or hate this player.

I wish I had been more careful reasearching this unit before purchasing. I specifically went with the RCA in order to match other components in my home theater system, and I liked that the unit was lower priced than other 5 disc changers. That should have been a big red flag to me. I've had quite a few problems with the unit since purchase. Mainly, it will rarely play an entire DVD without frequently losing frames, freezing, or crashing completely. 8 out of 10 viewings, the movie will cease to play midway through, and I will have to power down the machine and "let it rest" before being able to continue. Very temperamental with CD playback as well. Lots of skipping and crashing, especially when using the random playback feature.

I don't recommend the purchase of this unit at all.

It works... I have no idea how other people could not find the product key... It's clearly on the cd case.

This was awesome, and works as promised :)

I bought this to be able to rip old video cassettes to a format saveable to DVD.

Everything connected up easily. The picture you get through this connector/adapter is ok, and the software that comes with it does permit some basic picture adjustment. However, the audio quality is full of static and hiss and is completely unacceptable.

I wound up having to use an older RCA to stereo mini jack adapter to go right from the VCR into the line level input on the back of my PC. Then, the sound was perfect. No static or hiss.

I will be trying to use this device to do my ripping, but the audio connectors should work flawlessly, and they do not, so I can't recommend it.

Don't get me wrong, it works to a certain extent but I have tried just about everything I could to get it to work fully on Windows 7 (even though the CD itself said it was compatible) and the best I could do was get audio but no video. So my more powerful and convenient laptop was rendered useless with this device. My PC with Vista worked a little better but since it's the cheap knockoff version, it doesn't work with audio very well at all. The video was what I expected but the best I could do with the audio aspect was to use my USB microphone to record game footage, which understandably was of low quality.

I like how the "listed price" is $39.99 for this when it's actually the listed price for the real EZCap.... if you plan on adding your own custom tracks to the final product then this is a great great deal, if not then you better go elsewhere or find a workaround that fixes the audio.

If you have Windows 7 you need to download Win7 drivers to get this to work (it doesn't come with the package & doesn't install automatically either). There are some good instructions on YouTube on how to set this up and gives the link for the Win7 drivers (go to YouTube and do a search for "Easycap windows 7 driver"). After doing that I eventually got this to work. However, I found the quality of the captured video to be a little choppy. It's still viewable but just a little choppier than when the video was captured via the firewire port.

So if you get this device, I suggest you compare with the video quality via a firewire connection (if you have one). In my case the firewire connection was significantly better.

I have a Samsung digital TV (1080p), and with my new Toshiba DVR660 and an HDMI cable, I can turn HD programming into sharp DVD's that appear to match my 1080p picture pixel for pixel. (In actuality, the DVR660 records it to 480p and then upconverts it back to 1080p.) By the way, I get all my programming from a portable antenna, and the DVD recorder has an excellent HD tuner.

The VCR is adequate, giving me the same picture quality as the SONY which preceeded it. After seeing how easy it was to make a DVD recording, and how fabulous the results, I realized that I would never make a VCR recording again. It did an excellent job dubbing a VCR tape to a DVD.

Although I am not a computer programmer like the "Man from Happy Rock", who found it so difficult to use, I found that the machine was not so difficult to use at all, as long as you followed the instructions. One of the major complaints from Mr. Happy Rock was that the machine turns itself off after you use the "set timer" button. My brother, who IS a computer programmer, said that his Magnavox also turns itself off when you use the "set timer" function and that they all do this. He also said it took him 2 years to master his Magnavox!

I did have a couple questions the first day, and I called the Toshiba telephone number given for DVD recorders. My call was answered by a real person with an American accent within 30 seconds. She answered all my questions easily.

Before I purchased this recorder, I spent hours reading and re-reading the reviews for like products made by Sony, Samsung, Panisonic, JVC, Philips, etc. All the other products seemed to have fatal flaws, so I made the decision for Toshiba. I'm glad I did.

I couldn't be happier with this combo vhs/dvd recorder in regards to performance, features, and ease of use. I likewise read the reviews here and for other liketype products; this one seemed to have the least amount of "issues". Here's what I found: flawlessly and easily installs out of the box, and the digital tuner works great. While this product sure has lots of features, it's really a snap to set and record to your heart's content. I've barely touched the surface, but it's great to finally (and easily) be able to record off of tv, dub older vhs tapes, and copy just about anything to dvd via the L2 inputs on the front of the unit (ie plugging in a camcorder, etc.). Priced right, easy to install, easy to use, a quality product with all of the features and more-don't hesitate on this one.

If you read the specifications for this machine it appears to be a dream and it does appear to have all the features specified and some very cool features not well documented. One would expect the latest and greatest to be the most forward looking, with this expectation I was surprised at what I have come to expect as standard features to be missing or retro.

* Even though DVD+RW is the superior technology, all the "better" recording features are only supported by DVD-RW! For example, 16:9 aspect ratios, scene delete, combine titles, etc. To me this alone warrants the loss of a rating star.

* The recording of HDTV programs will become a mandatory ability in February of 2009. I recorded several HD programs on DVD+RW media and played them back, at the six hour speed, they were so badly pixilated as to be nearly unwatchable (probably too much up and down converting). When I recorded NTSC (normal until 2/2009) TV the recording were no better nor worse than on machines without ATSC/QAM receivers. This needed to be much better than it is.

* My last three recorders have all been Panasonic's not by conscious choice or loyalty, but rather more as coincidence and superior ratings, at the time. I expect that when I define a program to record I can name the recording (on the DVD side) so that I know what is on the disk. This is not available on this machine. After you record you can label what you have recorded, this is exactly backwards from my expectations.

* VCR output is analog ONLY on RCA pin-outs not even via s-video, let alone HDMI! The TV signal continues to play out of the HDMI while the video plays. This has additional ramifications for dubbing or cross-recording below.

Perhaps the single most confusing and frustrating thing about this machine is setting the timer (programmed recording). I have been programming VCRs/DVD recorders for 30+ years and I have been a computer programmer for the bulk of this time too, so I am not easily confused by setting up a recorder and scheduling a program for recording. Besides the retro programming features above you will very likely lose or fail in your initial scheduled recording efforts. You will see an E40 error reported for the failure, unhelpfully meaning overlapping recording or recording did not start on time. What has happened is you did not press the "timer set" button, unobviously located in the middle of the last row of the remote! If you press the "red on/off button", on the remote, no recordings will be made (thus making it nearly impossible to use a universal remote on this machine as the "timer set" will probably not be defined). The unit MUST be TURNED OFF using the "timer set" button or NOTHING will be RECORDED!!! This has been so confusing I redundantly record on another device to insure I get the program. This warrants at minimum the loss of at least one rating star perhaps two. A recorder should never let you miss a recording (when properly programmed) except for a very good reason, e.g. disk full or overlapping programs. This one lets you miss all of them for silly illogical reasons.

Suppose you record "The Soup" every Friday on E!, but in between you wish to watch an episode of HBO's Rome on a DVD. Well if you press the power button (red on/off button) you will not be able to access the DVD player. It is locked for recording on Friday. The only way to access it is to press the ... you guessed it, the "timer set" button. Of course doing that kills all the programmed recordings, so you better remember to press it again or you will lose the ability to record all future programmed recordings (i.e. miss The Soup until you press the "timer set" button)! Pressing the more obvious red on/off button is not going to fix it, but only yield an e40 error.

I expect that the latest machines would have superior image processing. Sadly it is no better than a $50 Sam's Club special, when I visually compare the two on the same "passage" of a program. Obviously without an S-video out for any video tapes, a player with S-video will look better.

My primary purpose in purchasing this machine was to cross copy/dub family videos. Recording at various speeds does seem to be clean and as good as can be expected. I was very concerned that there is no way adjust the tracking on video tapes however this seems to be pretty smart and appears to be constantly adjusting for the best setting. It has worked on all the videos I have tested so far. However if you have the DVD on an HDMI or S-video connection you will need to switch back and forth between two outputs on your TV to see and cue your video then switch to the other side to set up and start the dubbing process! There is, of course, the usual problem of playing DVD+/-RW on a PC the only reliable player I have found for this problem is VLC media player portable, a freeware player.

A cool feature is the ability to watch what you are recording with DVD-RW, and have it keep track of where you are.

In short this looks like it might be a pretty good dubbing/cross recording video machine but as a general purpose family room player I think there are cheaper and better choices on the market today.

I bought a flat screen (720p) because my old TV finally shut down. I still use an antenna and I'm extremely happy with an antenna input to the HDTV! Lots of channels for free and the picture is vastly superior to cable!!

However, the ease of recording a program if I wasn't going to be home seemed to be gone. The guys at Best Buy and other people who were very technical told me it couldn't be done anymore without getting cable, or TiVO or other fancy gizmo that required a subscription to something or was hugely expensive, or both. They said it was impossible to record DTV to a tape. I didn't see why it couldn't be downconverted, taped, and upconverted again.

They were wrong (and I was right). This is just like my old trusty DVD/VCR combo with more capabilities and I can use it with HDTV! I can record to either VCR or DVD because it has a tuner. Plus I can still play my old tapes, or convert them.

The only trouble was that the setup was confusing (you have to set the input on the TV first) and I had to go out and buy the cables for DVD recording. Once you get the hang of it though, you're back to the days of easy recording of your favorite shows without a lot of fuss or expense.

JULY 17 IMPORTANT UPDATE THE THING DIED OVERNIGHT! I still stand by it being able to record and I appreciate the nice comment. However this morning the clock wasn't on and the thing had simply died overnight for no apparent reason. It is plugged into a surge protector. I have noticed that more machines like this are on the market now and as long as it has a tuner, you can still record digital TV directly to a VCR or DVD. Just make sure it has a built-in tuner.

Be aware (for the uninitiated like me) HDMI cable provides for only DVD signal. Standard VHS or S-video cable required to operate the VHS.

I purchased this mp3 player because it looks so adorable online and in writing it sounded just like what I needed. I wanted to use it with my FM transmitter as well as when I am working out. I also wanted to spend the least out of pocket and when I read about this product I thought I was getting a STEAL!! Boy was I ever wrong.

First of all, the product is pink, does come with the items described, and can be used with an FM transmitter. But what they don't tell you is that you need a Ph.d to be able to use the darn thing. You MUST use the larger booklet that comes with it to figure out how to operate this thing, because of course its not logical with what's on the buttons. I was very frustrated using it to begin with, and after a few weeks I am able to work it. Some of the menus though require you to turn the thing completely off just to be able to get out of that screen because warning messages flash and there is no way to get rid of them.

The battery life is a joke so prepare to recharge it after EVERY use. When you turn it on don't think that it will still be saved with the last sone you listened to, you have to start from the beginning of the list after each power on and there is no quick way to get through the list, you must read through every song. There is a shuffle feature though that can get you to different places within the list if you don't feel like hunting through 2GB worth of music.

There isn't a clip or anything that helps you keep it held around your neck, so if you're working out you'll have to hold it or since I'm a female I slip it inside my sports bra strap to keep it held in place.

The pros of this item is that the sound quality isn't bad at all. That's it!!

The feel of it is Extremely light and almost rubbery, it's definitely a peanut of an MP3 player.

All in all I say that if you can get yourself a Sansa for a good price by all means save yourself the headaches of this product because the only thing that makes it worth it to me is that my total ended up being $4.99 after gift certs. Oh and by the way, if you do get the product and don't like it, be prepared to pay a "Restocking Fee" if you decide to return it to the seller.

Discs play very noisy...choppy video.....would not recommend at all. Would say to buy a more expensive or higher rated player.

It's been over a year since my purchase and I use it maybe 10 hours a week with no problems. When not using, I keep in a sealed plastic bag to protect electronics from dust. Before loading a DVD or CD, I inspect the surface for dust and use a clean paint brush to remove any particles on the data side of DVD/CD. People who report DVD player failure is likely unaware dust & particle contaminants on DVDs or CDs will cause premature wear and damage on the laser that reads the data. It also causes the scratches you see that are prevalent in used DVD movie rentals. Owners manual & manufacturers of DVD movies don't tell you because they want you to buy a new DVD player (or DVD movie) when your old one quits working or don't play right. When moisture in the air gets inside the electronics of DVD players, they cause premature failure and assume you'll buy a new one, which is why DVD player's owners manual don't say "keep in plastic cover to protect from moisture in air." I play mine over 10 hours a week and have owned it for over a year. Protecting from dust & moisture is why mine had lasted so long. Kkid14701 claims the sound is distorted and video not clear; I get the same problems when I buy bootleg pirated DVD movies. As for inferior speakers, you'll need POWERED external speakers like the ones hooked up to your desktop PC for better sound quality; or headphones with inline volume control to boost the volume. I tried headphones with no inline volume control and it was lacking, even with the player's volume knob fully turned up. Kyle_Jones claims "sudden-death" on his player. I bought one of those $500 wired security systems (made by First Alert) from Menards. It comes with for cameras, its own monitor for viewing and a built-in DVR for recording. But I wanted a way to view the video feed from elsewhere in the house. This item fits the bill! I just plugged in a coax from the output of the First Alert to this video server, then plugged an ethernet cable to a network hub.

It did take a little configuring... you have to use a program on the CD to initially configure it, and this program works only on Windows. All I have are Macs. The program would not work using Parallels (which lets you run Windows on the Mac within Mac OS X). But I do have a Macbook with Windows installed in Boot Camp, which lets you boot up the lap in native Windows mode. The program ran fine that way. The important thing in using the program is to initially set the IP address for the video server. Once you do that, you can just configure the device with a web browser.

Another nice thing is the built-in web server of this device does not use Java or Flash to serve the video, so the video is viewable on iPads.

Also, I was concerned with the small size of this device that it would get hot (devices that process video tend to create a lot of heat). But it runs cool as a cucumber.

The Transcend TS8XDVDRW is supposed to be Plug&Play for Windows XP SP3. However, my PC could not install the drive and gave me error code 39 (driver problem). There was no driver included with the software CD. After 8 days, Transcend still had not responded to my e-mail for help. I asked Microsoft for help. They recommended KB articles # 982116, 321641,308577. Editing the registry and deleting Upper and Lower Filters per KB # 982116 solved the problem. The software Power2Go worked fine. The CD/DVD Writer requires two original 2.0 USB ports and does not get enough power if using a USB hub. The manual suggests buying a USB power adapter TS-PA2A if needed.

End result: Easy installation is not guaranteed. Help from Microsoft's knowledge base may be needed to fix installation problems. A driver is not included. Instruction manual did not give help for installation problems. Transcend did not respond to e-mail request for assistance. The unit looks attractive and is convenient to use once the installation problems have been resolved. I like the Power2Go program for burning disks.

I plugged it in and burned a DVD, no set-up. It uses two USB ports, I didn't try it on one. I have a powered 7 port Belkin hub. I plugged both into that and it worked perfectly. I can't say about long-term durability, but if it craps, I'll leave an update.

You need to set the system date and time ... ahead of time :-)

eg. if it is 12:50pm now, I set my time to 1:00pm date/time info will be in a temp file in settings folder of SD Card

go to my car where device is, plug in SD card, I waited till it is exactly 1:00pm,

start my card engine to let the device boot up, and reconfigure.

lo and behold, my system date and time is set correctly, and temp file deleted.

This would easily be a 4star if it weren't for the language barrier; everything is in Korean.

The problems start when you find out that the software necessary to fine tune the device requires you to register with the website, to register with the site you need a citizen or resident alien number; as I am a foreigner I have no such number.

So, the time and date are wrong and I don't know what the flashing lights on the back really mean but after a few quick test the thing is doing what I expect. I don't know what happens when the continuous recording file fills up but I don't see it as being too much of a problem.

Sony Walkman MZ-E33 MiniDisc Player

This little player (it is only a portable player; you have to have the recorder separately) does a great job of playing your recorded minidiscs. In newer automobiles with an input miniplug socket, you can play off this gadget into your car. Unfortunately, some of the solid-state mp3 players would make this gadget obsolete.

I have one, but I use it so rarely that I don't even know where it is. (I had better take the batteries out, or they'll make a mess inside it.) The headphone cord has a volume control built into it. They thought of everything back then; it is overall a better quality than anything being sold today.

The minidisc concept was brilliant; you could record absolutely anything into the minidisc recorder from your stereo via the output lines, and edit the result down to blocks of size 1/10 of a second (or was that 1/60th of a second? I forget), something that is almost impossible to do even on a computer without special software. But, of course, on the player, you can only play back the pre-recorded minidiscs.

To summarize, this piece of equipment is only valuable for someone who has the other half of the package: the recorder. And if you are one of those people, you already know all about the product, but it was a lot of fun to recount it anyway!

The other one is too sensitive sometimes going off from a vibration, and then at other times, it doesn't register me walking right by it. Be prepared for a 30+ minute install on this application. I hate the fact that it loads so many 3rd party applications. It also installs the .NET 1.1 framework. Not only do you have to enter the product key to install, you have to wait for an email and enter other keys just to get other components working.

I run this softrware on a RAID 0 3.4 GHZ 1 GB Ram computer and it still runs slow. It takes almost 30 seconds just to load the program and I have the best hardware money can buy right now. Program has crashed and hung several times but that can be expected since it's not a solid product written by a single company.

I've had better luck with Sonic Studio. I only purchased this for the hardware that allows composite and S-Video inputs to USB 2.0 port. That seems to be okay, it's just the software I don't like.

I did an upgrade from Version 9 to Version 10. I loaded the software three times and could not get the "features" unlocked. The software runs very slow on a computer that ran the older software well. The online support suggestions don't work and noone answers the support line.

While this product has been advertised as "simple" and "easy-to-use", it is actually slow, buggy, and completely useless. I purchased this so that I could burn DVD's from the video I record with my Canon ZR200 digital video camera. I've encountered nothing but problems and frustration with it. First of all, the USB connection from the product will simply disappear while I am capturing video (and this is after the 10.5.2 version is installed). Then, if I get lucky and am able to capture any video, the DVD creation fails every time. Of course there is no error message or troubleshooting information to explain why the DVD creation fails. This isn't to mention the extreme slowness of the application. Do yourself a favor and do not buy this piece of junk.

The software won't install. It keeps freezing up and crashing. But the hardware devise was recognized by my computer and is working with Windows Movie Maker.

Pure Digital PSV-351 30 Minute Point-and-Shoot Camcorder

Any less-than-5-star reviews of this camcorder that were written during Summer 2006 simply miss the point of the device. The Pure Digital Point and Shoot camcorder is one of the most easy-to-use electronic devices I have ever used. With only 6 buttons (on/off, play, delete, zoom in/out, backward/forward, and stop/pause) one is able to digitally record and save events with the greatest of ease. Very little instructional material is packaged with this device because it is simply not needed. Coming complete with batteries, I was able to start recording immediately out-of-the-box. For the price and convenience currently only $130 and virtually no setup time for recording spontaneous events the Point and Shoot camcorder simply cannot be beat. There are two drawbacks to this device: memory and image quality. With only 512MB of unexpandable memory, the device only stores 30 minutes of footage. However, downloading footage to your PC or laptop is incredibly easy as the device has a built-in USB port that connects directly with no additional cabling needed. After downloading footage to computer, the memory can be cleared from the device and recording can resume. Image quality is decent but not great. If capturing life events on a budget is all that is needed, you will not regret purchasing this camcorder. Please be aware that according to a recent Wall Street Journal review, Pure Digital has licensed its technology to other firms, which are expected to release similar products with greater quality and features in the future in my opinion it is probable that such products might be introduced to the marketplace as soon as Christmas 2006. If you cannot wait, however, $130 is a small price to pay to be an early adopter of such technology.

This is a nifty little unit that functions exactly as billed. It might be considered a "fast food" version of a camcorder. The video quality is acceptable -MPEG4 resolution which is roughly equivalent to VHS. But where it shines is the simple user interface. If you want to capture a moment quickly, you can be shooting within 20 seconds. And you can email a brief 20 second clip in 90 seconds after shooting it (assuming your computer is in the same room!). The controls are simple, with nothing to set, and it's much simpler than trying to shoot video with your digital still camera. You can use Nero 6.6 or 7 to burn your videos to a DVD or a VCD. The zoom lens is digital, not optical, so there is a noticeable decrease in quality when you use it. And the little built in microphone doesn't have much range. If you need something simple to record life's daily events, this is what you have been looking for. Very easy to use, bright colors, outstanding audio. You can take the camera into an "authorized reseller" and have your full memory transferred to a DVD (for a price, of course) or you can save your videos directly to your computer. There is 512 megabytes of built in memory, so you can do the math as to how many 30 minute videos you can save. Of course, you can also burn your own DVD's then remove the saved videos from your computer.

I had some big problems trying to dump the video off the camera onto my HP laptop. The built in software created error messages, and couldn't load onto the computer. The camera would turn off in the middle of transferring the video (after I FINALLY got the software loaded). I never did get the laptop to accept the camera. I emailed the company and, as of this writing four days later, never got a response. I solved my own problem by trying the camera with my desktop PC and everything went perfectly.

The software is very easy to use and transfers are quick. When you finish, you can easily delete the video(s) off the camera.

Battery life seems to be okay. I haven't used up the orginal set, but I haven't shot that much video yet (although I spent a LOT of time trying to get the camera to play nice with my laptop).

Bottom line: if you buy the camera you will like it; if you have troubles, don't expect any help from PureDigital!

I always felt that Pure Digital would make a permanent camcorder like the single-use camcorder that they supply to CVS and Rite-Aid, selling for $29.95. So don't buy the single-use camcorder version because you won't get the camcorder back. The single-use one has only 20 minutes recording time. Buy this camcorder for $98.00 and it will pay for itself. Considering the low price, this little camcorder is an excellent buy!

The Pure Digital Point and Shoot digital camcorder is the easiest camera I've used since the old days of Kodak box cameras. Results are excellent and the camera is virtually foolproof. Even my wife, who is technologically challenged, has made excellent vidoes with this compact jewel. We are looking forward to using it on an Alaska cruise in September. The only drawback, so far, is the warning not to use rechargeable batteries. It seems the same AA batteries I use in my digital still camera should function just as well in this camcorder. I would also like to be able to insert a larger capacity chip for more than 30 minutes recording time.

I used the camera to film parts of my cross country road trip to San Francisco. It was terrific on the road -holding battery charge, taking great, colorful pictures, and was even pretty steady on a bumpy moving truck. A great purchase.

This is a GREAT camera. I especially like the night-vision function. It is easy to learn (anybody with a facebook account can probably throw the manual away) and always has good quality. Shot HOURS of footage with this, and never a disappointment. Battery life is about 2 hrs, maybe more.

Well I was hoping to get a good camcorder to video stuff as an improvement over my Canon camera. Well this camcorder was priced well at about $180 but actually gave worst video quality than my camera! I would stay away from this camera if you want anything you are filming to look good. The camera also sucks in low and high light situations.
