Vivitar Dvr518 Hd Digital Video Recorder, 5.1 Mp Camera

Vivitar Dvr518 Hd Digital Video Recorder, 5.1 Mp CameraI bought one of these digital camcorders and at first I was fairly impressed by how easy it was to use and the better than average video quality. Then I heard the audio... Or lack of it. Actually all I heard from the audio was a static hiss. Thinking I had gotten a bad camcorder somehow, I exchanged it for another. The second camera had the same problem. These camcorders either have a serious defect in the audio or Vivitar is using really low quality microphones in them. I returned that one as well, shelled out a little more money and bought a 2nd generation Flip Ultra 120. In the world of digital camcorders, the old saying "you get what you pay for" really is true. I got stung twice trying to pick out a bargain and it will be a long time before I try another Vivtar product. If you really want a decent digital camcorder, be prepared to pay for it because this one isn't worth the price.

I guess the old saying is true, you get what you pay for. Amazon's description (as well as many other site's) says this camera has "720p HD Video Recording". This is not true. The highest resolution this has is 640X480 interlaced. Neither the packaging nor Vivitar's site ever claims it's 720p HD, so I guess it's partly my fault for not doing my homework before buying. That being said, I've seen plenty of 480i recorders that shoot very good video. But, even at this camera's highest quality setting, the video is choppy and grainy, regardless of lighting conditions. The camera has 2 settings for frames per second, 15 and 30; all the software I have used after shooting video says the 15FPS setting is shooting at 7.5, and the 30FPS setting is shooting at 15 (in other words, half!). If all that weren't enough, the sound has a horrible hiss if there's more than a couple seconds of quiet. I'm very disappointed, but considering how cheap this camera was, I shouldn't have expected much more than what I got.

I got my Vivitar DVR518 Digital Video Camcorder via LiveSpan. I first had questions on shipping timelines. But, upon contact seeking that knowledge I was very impressed. Not only did I get (an) answer, I got (THE) answer. For a product of this quality, to sell for this price, is truly amazing & prompted me to enter (their domain) to see what else was their? Da' it's ON! This camcorder is everything that I want a camcorder to be. Very, easy to use and don't worry about walking over to your subject to get close-ups. Just stand there! With a 2"TFT LCD screen and 8X Digital Zoom, let your subject do the walking. Thank you LiveSpan for a wonderful piece of art & thank you for a price that I could afford. Amazon, you'll never know what a ideal match-up this will become.

P.S. we'll send a post card!

Coby DVD-R1300 5.1 Channel DVD Player/Recorder with Progressive Scan & AV Input

Coby DVD-R1300 5.1 Channel DVD Player/Recorder with Progressive Scan & AV Input
  • Slim-line, progressive scan DVD player/recorder with 5.1-channel surround sound output
  • Records to both DVD+R/RW, DVD-R/RW discs; plays CD-R/RW, MP3, JPEG
  • Includes FireWire input on front for connecting digital video camcorders
  • Connections: Composite A/V (1 out, 2 in), S-Video (1 out), component (Y/Pb/Pr) video (1 out), RF (1 in)
  • Dolby Digital decoding, coaxial digital audio output

We had two other "inexpensive" dvd players that died recently and needed to replace them. This unit jumped out at me for three reasons, the ability to record to DVD, built-in TV tuner and the price. Setup was pretty simple and now the kids can watch their DVDs again. The recording quality of this unit is "ok". The unit has three different types of inputs: CABLE, RCA and S-Video, so it should work for most situtations. I gave the unit 4 stars, because it is not a high-priced or high-quality system and it met my low to medium quality device expectations.

This Coby product arrived defective: power would come on but unit would not function. Otherwise, Coby products are great and this unit would have had great "bang for the buck". In fact, after reading the manual I have to say that this product would have been too advanced for this user.

I purchased this unit not too long ago and find it very reliable as far as playing the multitude of discs that it features. However, upon reviewing the manual many times, I have tried to understand why the Technical Reviewer states that it can record to DVD-R and DVD-RW discs when the manual plainly states this unit can only record to DVD+R & DVD+RW discs.

Aside from that, I have found this unit very attractive and reliable. The picture quality is very good and the functions are easy to handle.

The greatest feature about this Coby DVDR1300 Player/Recorder is that it has a built-in 5.1 channel tuner which can be hooked up to your TV set. Audio cables are necessary for the sound and included with this unit.

Overall, this unit which is reasonably priced is a sure bet for anyone looking for a notably fine product and a satisfactory performance.

HAD A LOT OF PROBLEMS AT FIRST BUT IT'S A LITTLE BETTER NOW. I HAVE HAD BETTER AND I DEFINITELY WOULD NOT PURCHASE AGAIN

Ademas, no siempre responde.

Panasonic RR-US551 1-GB Digital Voice Recorder

Panasonic RR-US551 1-GB Digital Voice RecorderThis recorder is great. It isn't too hard to use. Has great pick up and clarity in playback using external speaker or headphones. Recording time is plentiful. It should have a case but doesn't, and I can't find one anywhere to fit. User's manual could be better.

What a wonderful piece of voice recorder from panasonic.Amazing clarity of audio reproduction.I only wish it comes in higher GB.It looks rugged and think it will withstand the abuse I am going to put it through.

Buy Panasonic RR-US551 1-GB Digital Voice Recorder Now

I received this Panasonic voice recorder just a few days ago and eagerly set about using it. Firstly I would like to point out that ones first impression is of a device poorly made with cheap material. It takes two triple AAA batteries and if you don't have any lying about the house you're out of luck. It comes with no batteries which was quite surprising as almost everything nowadays comes with a set of batteries. It takes about 10 minutes to read the pertinent set of instructions about how to set up the Panasonic Recorder and to record your first project. Buttons and knobs are kept to an absolute minimal which is rather nice as there is little to do to make your first recording. I've always believed that manufacturers do little to make devices easy to operate and people have a tendency to love a lot of buttons and switches on their devices believing that the more you have the better the quality is. Now to the punch line. The audio quality is horrible. Little more needs to be said about this recorder. If you are seeking one with reasonably good audio quality avoid this Panasonic. You'll be pleased you did.

Sony DCRTRV25 MiniDV Digital Handycam Camcorder w/ 2.5" LCD, MPEG EX, Memory Stick & Mega Pixel Vid

Sony DCRTRV25 MiniDV Digital Handycam Camcorder w/ 2.5' LCD, MPEG EX, Memory Stick & Mega Pixel Video/ StillAfter researching for 1 month on camcorders, I finally chose the Sony DCR-TRV25 for several reasons.

1) It records in 690,000 pixels (520 lines of horizontal resolution)

2) Megapixel on still photo shots (1152 X 864 instead of 640 x 480)

3) Its size (very small but not too small so you don't jitter the camera)

4) Its ability to record streaming video (to put on my website)

5) 7 lux rating / 0 lux with night shot

6) Color viewfinder

7) optional manual control on brightness, backlight and focus

Others that I looked at had 1 or more of the feautres missing (like still photo of 640x480 or CCD pixels of 480,000).. so in the end, I found this to be the best priced camcorder for the money ...(Only difference I see in TRV27 is that TRV27 comes with some editing tools... (which I won't use anyways). I also looked at the TRV17 which had everything I wanted expect it's photo resolution was at 640X480.

Video Editing with P-III, 450mhz, 256 mem, Windows XP with firewire port was a breeze. Just install the firewire card and load the drivers.

You transfer still shots via the usb port. Its very easy to do. Just plug in the USB cable (it comes with one) and you will see "Sony Digital Camera" on "My computer" Just drag and drop your photos into a folder.

Although the color and sharpness of this camera is amazing, my only gripe is that the video and stills gets grainy with low light. So I'd suggest you buy a light for the camera if you plan on doing a lot of indoor shots (or at least make sure you have a good light source.)

I also recommend you buy 1) UV filter lens (mostly to protect the camcorder's lens) 2) 32MB or 64MB memory stick (instead of the 8mb it comes with) 3) Wide angle lens 4) carrying case 5) Extra battery (the one it comes with lasts about an hour)

Even if you don't buy this camcorder, after all my research, I would stick with Sony or Panasonic camcorders (they seem to get the best reviews)

I'm not a Sony fan but I'm impressed by this great camera. Before buying this camcorder it was so important for me to find reviews about it on the Internet. After I got it I was thinking several times to write my own review but as usual you always don't have time for that. Then I said that's not fair. I know how important was for me to find the reviews (thanks to everybody who wrote a review and helped me reach the final decision). And I know also that right now many guys are searching the Internet looking for new reviews. So it's my turn to pay back ...

I did my research on the Internet for about one year until I decided to buy this camcorder. Actually I wanted the TRV27 and I changed my mind in the last moment because the difference in price between these two models in too big ... I don't regret my decision. The 2.5" LCD is just enough for us.

TRV25 is not very good in low light but also it's not bad too. It's just good. After reading some reviews on the Internet I was expecting actually the camcorder to be even worst in low light. It's OK but I'm considering to buy a external light.

In good light the camcorder is amazing! Very good resolution (I have a digital HDTV which lets me know immediately if the signal is not good), very nice life-like colors, extremely clear and clean sound!

I had no problem at all to hook up TRV25 on the USB port (I have Windows 2000 professional). Then I got a Zoltrix FireWire card and I couldn't see the camcorder with it. I called Sony and Microsoft and I sent an email to Zoltrix in Hong Kong (no answer back yet). They couldn't help me too much. Sony said that you don't need any special Sony drivers for TRV25. It's true but the general DV driver I had in my Win2K was bad. If you have problems with your FireWire connection you may try the following links: http://www.reactorcritical.com/faq-dv/faq-jvc.shtml and http://www.siig.com/knowledge/10050286.HTM. Now I'm fine. The Zoltrix card is working fine and smooth and the cable (comes with the card) is long so you don't have to stay with your camera underneath you desk. Price paid (for card, cable and software): $51 CDN +Tax.

My problem now is that I couldn't find yet the best solution to store the footage. Hopefully I'll be able to find the right settings in KVCD (http://kvcd.org). To store the footage on VHS tapes is out of question! From my camcorder I'm getting a nice 520 lines and if I store this on VHS I'll have at the end just 240 horizontal lines! Where is the point of spending so much money for a digital camcorder then? So far using the KVCD the colors are good, sound is good, the resolution is good (704 x 480) much better than VCD (352 x 240) or SVCD (480 x 480) (check http://www.vcdhelp.com ). The only problem is that the image is not smooth. It looks like I'm loosing frames. That happens only when the camera is moving fast to the left or to the right. ...

I love my camcorder and of course I recommend it to anybody. If you are shopping for a camcorder go digital first and second give a chance to Sony TRV25/27 and you'll fall in love.

Good luck!

People are complaining about how poor is the Sony support in US. I called Sony Canada, in less than 3 minutes I had on the line a technical person who was nice and I was satisfied with his answers. So Sony Canada seems to do a better job.

I got already these accessories: 4 Sony tapes, UV filter, Polarizing filter, Sony case, NP-QM71 battery, Zoltrix FireWire card (with cable and soft).

I'm looking forward to get the following accessories: a tripod, a bigger Memory Stick (I think 64Mb will be fine because you can get very nice pictures from the tape during play back even they are just 640 x 480 they are good enough for email and, maybe I am wrong but for me a 640 x 480 capture from tape looks better than the same still image on Memory Stick at the same 640 x 480 resolution), and light (I will try first the 3Watts lamp and if is not enough I'll get the 10/20W lamp).

I love my camcorder and of course I recommended to anybody. If you are shopping for a camcorder go digital first and second give a chance to Sony TRV25/27 and you'll fall in love.

I have been using this camcorder for some time now; I'm really impressed by this great camera.

Its features are remarkable and the quality is amazing. It is also the best priced camcorder for its features and quality.

The color and sharpness of this camera is fantastic, but the video and still photos are grainy with low light. So either you buy a light for the camera or make sure to have a good indoor light source.

Video Editing with this camcorder is really an easy enjoyable experience,

To get the best out of your camcorder, you will definitely need to add few accessories:

1 One or two memory stick.

2 One or two Extra batteries.

3 A wide angle lens, which is very essential in some situations indoors as well as outdoors.

And, that is all what you need to enjoy you memories with your family and friends.

I am yet to find any restrictions with this camera and I use it five times a week. There are some downfalls though. The LCD screen is in color but the regular one is in black and white. I find the camera is only good if you have a mac. PC are impossible to use with any camera editing program. If your are a beginer iMovie is great. But if you are experinced Final Cut Pro 3 is the best money can buy, within [money]. It is around [money] but well worth it. This camera is the best I have ever used, as a family camera, and is my best pick as a movie editor and filmer.

AGPtek® Rechargeable 4G 4GB Digital Audio Voice Recorder Dictaphone MP3 Player

AGPtek® Rechargeable 4G 4GB Digital Audio Voice Recorder Dictaphone MP3 PlayerI needed a small recorder I could use as an external backup to record my client consultations and expert interviews in case there's ever a problem recording with my Skype Pamela as a primary recording source. Since I have two speaker ports on my Dell laptop, sending the audio through the speaker ports allows recording both sides of the recorded conversations.

Was hesitant about ordering the Rechargeable 4G 4GB Digital Audio Voice Recorder Dictaphone MP3 Player since I have had no prior experience with the manufacturer. But the price was good, the Amazon seller was highly responsive to answer my questions, and the specs were spot on.

Surprisingly the Rechargeable 4G 4GB Digital Audio Voice Recorder Dictaphone MP3 Player packs a lot of features in an incredibly tiny and lightweight design. When I opened the package I was surprised by the size of this unit. The image makes it look like a larger handheld dictaphone. The entire thing can fit across the palm of my hand, with a bit of space to spare.

Super strong microphone. While I was setting up and testing the recorder for the first time my wife was talking to me from the room next to my office. The microphone picked her up as clearly as if she were talking in the same room with me. That strong capability could be good and bad if recording from a microphone. But since I'm recording from speaker output this strength works for me. There's no need for me to worry about attaching a noise-canceling microphone. Provided I don't increase the sound of speaker so loudly that the recording becomes distorted, a direct connection to my Skyped laptop works. Otherwise the sound is distorted from being too sensitive. Maybe a small two channel audio mixer placed between the two might help avoid sensitivity(?).

Recording format. The Amazon specs for this unit show, "MP3 function." WTH does that mean? I've bought recorders from two local chain stores that said audio recording and MP3 player. Both of those devices recorded in useless formats like .asf or other weird formats I couldn't use without converting to other formats. I hated those formats. They are not universal for my needs. The Rechargeable 4G 4GB Digital Audio Voice Recorder Dictaphone MP3 Player both plays and records in MP3 format. Yeah! Also, something listing WAV format was in the menu, but I had not tested that. WAV is a great format when 'studio' quality is important, but takes up way too much space and is overkill for voice recording. If I were recording a symphony maybe lossless WAV would matter. But for voice qualify MP3 is sufficient, and universal.

Gripes.

1) One of the menu options was in Japanese or Chinese. I could be wrong, maybe it was Korean. IDK. I understand a few words in each language when spoken but haven't a clue how to read any of them. Anyhow, that option was an annoyance to get rid of. Weird the unit didn't ask a language preference and stick to that in all options. Oh well, the annoyance was minor enough not to stop me from using or keeping this unit.

2) No external charger. This is charged by micro usb, as are most small devices now days. Problem is, when you are recording you need a charger that won't interfere with recording. For instance, if charging from an active pc you could get interrupted with a menu prompting to sync the device with your pc. Was an annoyance. So I plugged my external charger from my phone into the unit instead. End of pc sync interruptions. On the plus side, this unit was charged when I received it. Was expecting to wait 4+ hours as my other MP3 devices required prior to being able to use. So glad that wasn't the case here.

The Rechargeable 4G 4GB Digital Audio Voice Recorder Dictaphone MP3 Player ships with a lot of extra items in the box. Had I read the Amazon listing fully prior to ordering I would not have been expecting just a bare recorder. Just as the specs show, you get all those extra cables, microphone, ear phone, etc etc. Heck, many in my family have paid $600+ for cell phones and received fewer 'extras' than provided here.

Great value.

I need it a covert device, and I found it. I could not believe all the extras this product provides. This product records very clear voices from up to fifteen feet away. The product is extremely small and best of all it contains rechargeable batteries. As of right now I'm extremely please.

Buy AGPtek® Rechargeable 4G 4GB Digital Audio Voice Recorder Dictaphone MP3 Player Now

I bought this for listening to mp3 files in order to type minutes from meetings. I can easily copy the mp3 from a computer onto the unit. It is very easy to go back for just a few seconds at a time--you can see the time as it rewinds. I couldn't do that with Windows Media Player.

Overall, this is a nice little recorder. Booklet of instructions is understandable. It has all the ports permanently labeled on the back which is very helpful. The price was great.

I ordered this from Gadget Zone and they shipped it very quickly.

Only 4 stars because the headphones are not very good. I had another pair that fit and worked great so am using them instead.

This little recorder is great!. Picks up sound with little to no background noise.

Its physical quality is not that great; It feels like if I dropped it on anything it would break into a million pieces. However, It is very inexpensive so I kind of anticipated this.

The navigation is a bit confusing, but hooking it up to your computer is really easy.

If you are looking to buy a good, simple, USB voice recorder, get this product.

Sony DCRTRV460 Digital8 Handycam Camcorder w/20x Optical Zoom

Sony DCRTRV460 Digital8 Handycam Camcorder w/20x Optical ZoomPurchased this camcorder about a week ago. Ease of operation and a great operators manual help sort out technical items. Picture quality utilizing only standard grade 8mm tape is excellent. I can only imagine the more expensive metal particle or metal evaporated tapes may have even higher quality pictures. Have not had time to check out the camera picture quality using the memory stick. I do not expect any disappointments. Sony make a terrific camcorder product. Consumers reports recommends this as one of their "Best Buys" for digital camcorders. Sony & Panasonic both continually excell in the catagory as "Models requiring the least amount of repairs" or "Most trouble-free manufacturers". The battery that comes with the unit gives approximately 67 minutes of recording time on a normal charge. A full charge will give approximately 74 minutes. Recommend purchasing the FM-50 battery for extended recording/playing time and for nothing else, simply to have a back-up. I own a DVD recorder that allows me to transfer audio & video from my camcorder to DVD's . The camcorder has an A/V output for the consumer interested in transfering their home movies/digital images to DVD's. It also features an S-Video output for capturing even higher quality video.

Some of the bad things:

The camcorder does not come with a portable/cordless charger. You have to plug the batteries into the camcorder and plug the adapter/charger into the camcorder to charge. Purchase an additional external charger for simplicity.

The camcorder does not come supplied with a memory stick. Consider purchasing at least 128 M. That way you can get approximately 80 minutes of recording time.

The battery supplied FM-30 (see above) is not adequate.

Some of the good things:

Quality product

Image & sound quality excellent

Auto focus & stabilization also excellent

Great zoom feature

All in all, a fantastic product with great performance and features at a very reasonable price. If you want to get into digital video recording for less that $ 500.00, try this one.

GAC

My old 8mm camcorder died around Thanksgiving leaving me with 15 years worth of home movies and no way to view them. The TRV460 was at a great price point and perfectly bridges the gulf between analog and digital. I wanted to transfer the keepers stuff to DVDs and edit the really good stuff in to movies. I'm far from done, but I've worked with this camcorder enough to pass on some tips.

CAMCORDER: Easy to use. Pictures are so much sharper than my analog camera (I know, no surprise here, but it had a wow factor for me). The camera is smaller than my old one, a little bigger than my two hands wrapped together. The touchscreen is easy to use plan on studying the manual though. It's all in there and it's easy to read, but you have to approach it like a text book. It powers up quickly. Two things to beware of -(1) the tape inserts through the bottom and this that if you use a screw tripod adapter you have to take it off the to insert a tape, (2) there are some features that only work on movies recorded to DV tape vs. recording straight to the memorystick for example when you record to the memory stick it only records in mono.

SOFTWARE: Other reviews are correct when they pan the software that comes with the camera. I bought Adobe Premiere Elements and it is great. I bought the adobe software from amazon they were offering a Photoshop Elements/Premiere Elements combo that I opted for after reading numerous reviews. I've used the full version of photoshop for years and the user interface of elements is dumbed-down but still has a familiar touch and enough features to do everything I want. Wait a minute this is a camcorder review, sorry for the tangent.

FIREWIRE/USB2.0: Elements will capture movies recorded to the memorystick via the USB2.0, but to do the same for movies recorded to tape you need a firewire cable. If your PC does not have a firewire port, you can just add a PCI firewire/usb2.0 card onto your motherboard (costs less than $20 for the card). I had bought the card at retail a year ago. But camcorders need a firewire cable with a 6 pin to 4 pin configuration. Found one on line recently (listing: 6ft IEEE 1394 FireWire Cable 6pin-4 DV ILINK IPOD SONY) for less than a buck. Once you plug the firewire cable into the TRV460, you control the camera from the computer through the premiere software no special settings or adjustments needed. By the way, you can do some camcorder to PC transfers using the USB2.0 cable and the Sony Picture Package software but "clunky" is too kind.

Along with the camcorder, there are some necessary accessories. I looked for low-cost options on all of these and was pretty successful. I'll pass them on here for what they're worth.

DIGITAL TAPES: Sony makes many different types of tapes that are good for recording digital. The Sony Digital8 Camcorder Tapes (at first I thought these were the only ones that would work) costs $20 a pair at retail. There are many other 8mm tapes that are compatible for less than half this cost (check out Sony's website for compatibility).

MEMORY STICK: Again I went online to find a good price on a memory stick. But the stick I bought was not compatible with this camcorder (listing: SanDisk 256MB Memory Stick PRO Duo Sony 256 MB DSC-T1 +). The camcorder would only intermittently recognize the stick (mostly it wouldn't). Searches on the web showed that many people had this problem. The kind customer service dept at SanDisk agreed to check it out and said they would probably replace it. They did and the newer version of the same memorystick works fine. While I was waiting I bought a Sony 256MB memory stick at a retail store and, of course, it works fine. I got a memory card reader to plug into my USB port (listing: USB MS/MEMORY STICK CARD READER) so I could transfer movies to the PC without involving the camcorder.

ANALOG TAPE TO MEMBORY STICK TRANSFER: One cool thing I learned about the camera is you can copy scenes from an analog tape to the memory stick all from within the camcorder. With the touch screen monitor, it is very easy to do. This is great if you want to compile selected scenes (from the huge pile of old 8mm tapes) without sitting at the computer. I did a lot of this analog tape-to-memorystick xfer (using just the camera) while sitting around the fire with my family it made me a little more sociable with the family than if I were staring at the computer.

BATTERY: Another reviewer posted some tips on non-Sony batteries. I took an even cheaper approach that worked great. On line I bought a charger (listing: CHARGER for SONY NP-F550 NP-FM50 NP-QM71 QM91 BATTERY) for less than a fiver and a high capacity battery (listing: SONY NP-QM71 NP-FM70 DCR-TRV950 2800mAh BATTERY NEW) for less than fifteen bucks.

So that's it. I feel like the only splurge was on the tape editing software. I could have stayed with the free Sony Picture Package but the Adobe is so much easier and does tons more. If you amortize it over the hours you spend on editing, the $100 bucks or so is not that much.

My PC is a off-brand clone with a AMD Athlon 2800+ CPU running at 2.07 MHz, wtih 512MB ram, running XP Home Edition SP2 and a ATI AIW 8500DV videocard. I like this camcorder a lot!

Referred to by some salesmen as a "dinosaur" this 1.5-pound marvel is a great beginner's camcorder with an easy to read and follow owner's manual. With the unit's "Easy" button, everything becomes automatic and the first movies are really great. The 2.5-inch LCD touch screen contains all the menus for setting up the camera, instead of numerous mechanical buttons. The camera has 4 methods of video transfer: An A/V cable that will plug directly in to a VCR or the front panel of your TV for viewing directly from the camera, "S" video transfer, USB and Firewire. I highly recommend using a firewire port as the preferred method of video transfer into your PC as the USB transfer has too many frame dropouts, resulting in jerky video. The still picture resolution is around 1 mega pixel (MP) and is stored on a memory stick, so if you currently use a digital still camera at 2 MP or above, you might be a bit disappointed. The viewfinder has it's own focus adjustment which is really good if you wear glasses. Some hints-Don't bother to purchase a separate battery charger if you purchase a spare battery, the camera does a fine job of charging the battery and the charge indicator light goes out after a full charge. A 64MB memory stick will store 980 pictures at standard resolution and 390 at fine resolution so resist the temptation to go with a more expensive 128 MB or larger stick. One last note, Windows XP along with Windows Movie Maker V2.0 (which is free from Microsoft) has the capability to capture and edit the video from this camera.

I primarily bought this Sony because it is backwards compatable with HI8 tapes, plus has the functionality to upload digital 8 to my computer.

I previously had a Sony analog HI8 camera purchased new 4 yrs ago that had problems from the get go. It had several warranty related issues relating to sound. The most recent problem (on/off switch related) would cost me about $200 to fix. This camera has seen low usage and has not been abused.

Nevertheless, I decided to stick with Sony on my upgrade to the TRV460. I purchased the unit 3 weeks ago and haven't taken any video yet. However, I can tell you that uploading my HI8 tapes to my PC based computer couldn't be easier. You will have to purchase a firewire cable, which Sony should have included instead of the USB, because otherwise quality in transfer suffers. I did not opt to use the Sony software that came with the unit (didn't even bother loading on my computer). They might make good electronics, but I'll stick with another leader on the software.

I have sever old BetaMax tapes which I first transfered to the camcorder using the Sony supplied cables. Then I used the firewire cable with Microsoft Movie Maker 2 (which is free) to upload them to my PC. What a flawless operation. I have read of many people having problems with this step. Being able to accomplish this and get into video editing will greatly improve your videos. I may migrate to Pinnacle Studio for more video software options, but for now as a beginner I should be able to get myself started.

In summary, I expect Sony's video capture quality to be excellent (see other reviews since I haven't taken video yet). I am very pleased with the video transfer process, which was a big factor in my purchase. I only hope I won't have repair troubles with this camcorder.

Samson SAC01UPAK USB Microphone and Podcast Package

Samson SAC01UPAK USB Microphone and Podcast Package
  • The C01U USB Studio Condenser Mic is an affordable mic with a USB interface
  • It has cardioid pickup pattern
  • It has large 19mm diaphragm

This is a great product. I create online training videos and this is ideal. The audio is crystal clear and is easy to use. This is not a light-weight cheapy throw away item if it doesn't work. I am very impressed with the quality.

Caution Your PC is fully capable of using this as a plug-n-play device. Don't waste your time on the SoftPre software described in the literature as you don't need it. I contacted the manufacturer and they confirmed by suspecion that it doesn't work and isn't required.

They do include some great recording software that is not SoftPre, so don't get those confused!

This mic works well. Nice clear recording for voice over work. My only complaint is that I haven't been able to get the Sonar LE to work. It doesn't appear to be compatible with my sound card. The mic works well with Audacity however.

I couldn't be happier with this setup. I purchased it with a PS01 pop screen (Samson) and it's become my staple for WBT voice-over via Sony Audio Studio. The microphone offers an affordable, authentic representation of the voice.

An outstanding value at this price!

I am very happy with my new Samson microphone and it actually serves two purposes in our household. My wife uses it to record music and I use it for Web-based rapid eLearning. It's great to have such a versatile microphone that delivers such clean sound. Right out of the box, we were able to connect through our USB port and work with any audio software. The fit and finish makes this package a bargain, plus you have a couple of different choices for how you want to place your microphone onto it's included stand. I have not loaded the software that comes with it yet, because I have my own and it is not necessary to make this microphone function. Great job Samson!!!

The Samson CO1U Recording/Podcasting Pak is perfect for me. I am trying to get into the voice over business and this equipment is the perfect place to start. Combined with the Sonar editing program and PS01 Popfilter (sold seperately) I believe it will be an invaluable asset to anyone wishing to record themselves for demos, projects, or just podcasting.

DXG DXG-506V 5.1 MegaPixel Multi-Functional Camera with MPEG4 Technology (Silver)

DXG DXG-506V 5.1 MegaPixel Multi-Functional Camera with MPEG4 TechnologyHere's the short and skinny on this thing. It makes for a decent stocking stuffer at Christmas or extra birthday gift. I mean, its usually on sale for about $100 and that's about an extra $150 cheaper than an entry-level "name brand" camera. I bought mine for my teenage son who basically wants to dabble with this thing. If your kids, like mine, are extra rough with things, then you probably don't want to spend $400 for a Sony or JVC.

To begin, the package indicates that it is a "5 in 1" device, meaning camcorder, digital camera, MP3 player, etc. Don't think you'll get out of purchasing a separate MP3 player for your kids though. The MP3 player won't fool any teenager, so you'll definitely need to buy a devoted MP3 player. Seriously, the MP3 capability on this thing is a joke. As far as digital pictures, it takes grainy, sub-par pictures, so only a teenager would likely be okay with this. Don't expect good family photos in other words. The camcorder function is basic at best. This is not what you want for recording whatever memorable, precious moments you wish to capture. It's okay for kids to record "silly" things, but if they truly become interested and want to delve into this as a hobby, then you'll seroiusly need to consider splurging for something better.

What actually makes this player so inexpensive and lightweight is actually its Achilles heel. You see, most digital camcorders come with a rechargeable battery. In fact, the rechargeable battery is what adds significantly to the cost of the camcorder. I don't have a cost breakdown, but I suspect it is in the area of 25% of the overall cost. With the DXG, there is no rechargeable battery---but how I wish there were!!! Instead of a bulky rechargeable, this uses four "AAA" batteries. Cool, right? Well, this thing goes through batteries like a Hummer goes through gas. Seriously, four fresh batteries will be consumed in only a few minutes!!!! The bottom line, you'll most certainly need a separate battery recharger and rechargeable batteries to constantly feed this thing.

In short, this is a decent gift IF and only IF you buy a battery recharger. If you desire only the digital camera function, you ought to seriously consider a devoted digital camera as this one is ho-hum at best. Not a bad gift, but it is really more of a toy than a "big boy" camera.

I have been playing with this camcorder since I got it for Christmas and overall I'm pleased with it. On the up side: it's light & compact as your wallet, easy to use (I read all the instructions first), easy to download the pix & vids to your computer. And it's cheap. I've had no trouble with my battery door or extra memory chip coming open, as some other viewers have. On the down side: the built-in memory really isn't enough to allow for much video shooting or picture taking before it's full (an extra memory chip is essential and according to the DXG website there is a certain type that is compatible), neither the instructions nor the website explain certain functions and icons you really want to know about (such as flash operation). I've had better results shooting outdoors, than in. Light makes the difference. But overall I like my DXG and carry it w/ me in my handbag.

i am amazed at how many people hold this camcorder INCORECTLY.

you do NOT grip it like a gun, you hold it with your thumb on the bottom of the unit and your index finger and the finger inbetween your index finger on the top of the camcorder where the 3 notches are.

notice how you are not covering the flash, or touching the battery door? i have NEVER had the SD card slot door magicly open, it clicks into place.

again if you hold the camera like a gun, you might be acidently sliding the SD door open with your fingers. THIS IS THE INCORRECT WAY TO HOLD THE CAM.

the flash is activated by pressing LEFT on the ring with the red button, alternatvly pressing right will pause video.

pictures should be taken with the fine setting, and you MUST hold the camera still while shooting ( while the save bar saves the picture )

here is a hint...use a high speed SD card, most standard cards are 32X and are slow at 3 or higher Megapixels. I use a 150X card for fast saving of the pictures which means i do not have to keep the camera still for very long it only takes a second to save a high megapixel picture.

good light is required for the video, pictures i have not had problems with, the flash is fine for dark pictures.

another hint, use AVI for video as it is the least compressed of the 3 options, also if you want night or dark shooting you CAN do this with the camera, here is how, when you play back the video on your pc, turn up the contrast to 75% from the default 50% on Windows media player.

i hope this helps you all.

my only complaint is this....

i noticed on the LCD screen or rather the edge border of the plastic around the screen on both the top and bottom of the border of the screen in the centre there is a cut in the border, i am not sure if this is a manufacture defect or if its supposed to be there, it seems odd that is on the top and bottom border of the screen, and both in the centre of the border. ( you cannot see it head on with the screen, you have to tilt the angle of the screen to see it )

anyone else notice this, it was not like that on the 305v model that i used to have.

Don't be fooled by what people say for this item. They say things break by using it or just fall off of this product. So where do I begin, well first off I could not be more happy with this product then I already am. I got this in a nice box and opened it right away. First thing I noticed was its size. It is nice and small and thats the way it should be. However when I saw how small it was compared to what I originally thought, I was worried about video quality. Then onced I recorded things in different lighted areas, I found it to have great quaslity. One problem I did found was when It was dark, this camera deos not do so well in the dark. It just lowers the quality of the video. So after trying it out I was confused a little at how to work it but I found out how to use it right away. I bought the 10 dollar 1G memory card with it and they work perfectly together. The clip on lens protector is a little unsatisfieing but it will do good in the short term. I have not tried the MP3 player because I did not buy this camera for that, however I did try the voice recorder. Everything works great from the Pictures to the videos to the Voice Recorder. This camera also has nice small features like changing the formats of things you record, and all those little things. For about one-hundred dollars this is a must buy. This camera is perfect if your looking for compatibility, and recording movies. Believe it or not if you record at 30 fps on a 1GB card you can record to about one hour and thirty minutes.

Pros:

-Price (Camcorder is about 100$ HOWEVER buy the 10$ GB card because not all cards can go into this camera, believe me its worth the money. The card is cheap and works perfectly for the camera.)

-Quality (Good quality for such a small thing and you can chose from different frame rates.)

-5.1 Megapixels (This is good for cameras, some expensive cameras might not even have this.)

-Memory ( With the card this is a good amount of memory that will allow you to film for at least an hour.)

-Cables and Programs (A CD comes with the camera to install some programs to save the things you took onto your computer, if you don't have anything already.)

-Compatibility (Nice light weight camera.)

-Included Carrying Case (Comes with carrying case to protect your camera even more.)

Cons:

-(Confusing to use at first, it is possible to delete thigs without you knowing what you are doing, however everything is explained in the manual.)

-Clip On Lens Protector (It is kinda bad after a while, because it deos losen, however camera comes with carrying case anyway so thats good.)

-Memory (The built in memory is not that good at all, so buy the card or you won't enjoy this camera.)

Anyway this camera is perfect for filming those little moments in your life, like on vacations or other things like that. You can easily tuck it somewhere where it won't bother you. However if you want PERFECT quality you won't find that here. This camera deos have great quality but its not perfect.

This is a product that most likely you will love or hate, however I really loved it.

Want DXG DXG-506V 5.1 MegaPixel Multi-Functional Camera with MPEG4 Technology (Silver) Discount?

I love this camera. For what it does--it works great! It's ultra-compact and fits anywhere--in a coat or pants pocket--and the pistol-grip style make it handy to shoot stuff without missing the action. This makes it super-convenient for traveling--where you don't end up spending so much time looking through an eyepiece that you miss enjoying the view yourself. And the MP3 player comes in handy on long plane flights. No, it's not an HD camera and it shoots poorly under low light conditions. For the price--I was pleased and happy with the shots it took. I'd love to see a higher quality version of this, too. But it's not garbage like some of the other reviewers stated. It has some nice features (the price!!) and some limitations. So if it fits your uses--get one. You'll be glad you did.

The best things about this camera/camcorder:

-it works great in daylight/outdoor conditions

-it is super compact

-it let's you point and shoot pistol-grip style (so you can enjoy what you're viewing)

-it's ideal for video that's going straight to the web (it uses avi, mov, asf)

-you can replace the AAA batteries whenever you want/need to--not a proprietary battery that requires a special charger, handy when you travel in countries outside the US

-you can replace the memory cards when they fill up (and I think the cheapest place to get them is Amazon)

-it doesn't attract attention to itself like large camcorders with flashing led recording lights

-it's nice to have an mp3 player, camera, camcorder, and audio recorder all-in-one--truly a multimedia recording device

But, also beware that there are some things it doesn't do really well...

-it really only works in daylight/bright light conditions (don't even try shooting outdoors at night)

-the flash doesn't really work unless you're shooting within 3' of subject

-the battery and lens cover are plastic and will wear out if heavily used/misused

-there is no external mic jack

-the menu for the mp3 player is limited

-the manual is somewhat lacking and the print is really small

MachSpeed Trio Onyx 1 GB Video MP3 Player (Black)

MachSpeed Trio Onyx 1 GB Video MP3 Player
  • Compact media player with 1 GB internal memory for movie, photo, or music playback
  • Supports MP1, MP2, MP3, WMA, and WAV audio formats and SMV video format
  • Displays JPEG, GIF, and BMP photos on 1.8-inch full-color TFT LCD screen
  • Digital FM radio with 30 presets; USB 2.0 interface; 7 preset equalizer modes
  • Measures 1.7 x 3.4 x 0.43 inches (W x H x D); 1-year warranty

I saw that this player had some good reviews elsewhere. For the money it is a pretty good player and it looks sharp. I bought a pair for my wife and I. Although, I already see some issues I am going to have with it. As far as music goes, it will play just fine and has an onboard speaker you can turn on and off, so if that is all you care about then it will be a good player for you. While it does play video well (when you can get one converted) and the picture is clear, this is NOT an MP4 player.

All video must be converted into .SMV format, an obscure codec used for SigmaTel chips like the one in this player. The video conversion software that comes with the player is junk. It converts maybe 1 out of every 15 videos I have tried. So far I have had no luck with large video files at all. It advertises that it will convert MOST videos. Well, it will convert SOME mpegs. So far no AVI, no MP4, no quicktime, etc. I am pretty savvy about video and conversion, etc and there does not seem to be any other software out there that will work. I called tech support and they were very nice but did not resolve my issue. Same issue with two different players, two different computers, two different software discs. Mach Speed must know this is an issue...

You definitely need to read the manual or you will not be able to figure out some of the functions. Many of the negative reviews I have read about this player could have been avoided if people just read the thing to begin with before they had a fit. Ebooks seem to work ok on the player. Photos are good too.

Another issue is that it charges and transfers files pretty slow like it is not USB 2.0. Updated the firmware and no improvement. Maybe its the cable. My old mp3 player loaded at least twice as fast and it was as basic as you can get.

While this is not an Ipod, Creative, Sandisk, etc, it also costs nowhere near as much. Just as a 1gb mp3 player its decent enough. The video was a main feature on this player and its shortcomings have left me pretty disappointed. I am debating whether or not to RMA this one and cough up another $20 for something better. Then again maybe they will update the software or make a work around as it is not the player's fault, but the software that is the weak link.

Dakota Alert DVR-01 Digital Video Recorder (DK-DVR-01) Category: Time Lapse VCRs and DVRs

Dakota Alert DVR-01 Digital Video Recorder Category: Time Lapse VCRs and DVRsReceived my Dakota Alert DVR-01 yesterday. After going through the manual and setting up the time date stamp, it was ready to go. It worked as described. Haven't truly tried it yet for the purpose I bought it but it will be put to work tonight. One thing I noticed, if this is going to be a covert device, the green recording light should have been positioned behind instead of in front with the lens and PIR. I solve that issue by putting a black electrical tape on the green led to hide it's recording function. The PIR is very sensitive and record exactly 30 seconds of video everytime the PIR is activated. I would give this a 5 star but because of the placement of the recording LED, I'll just give it a 4 star. I might buy one or more of this product for other applications I have in mind. I highly recommend it.

ADDENDUM February 20, 2012

This is really a good product. It does what it described to do. I covered with an electrical tape the flashing green light when it's recording but the 8 IR leds glows in the dark during recording. So much for covert? If I had known, I probably would not give the review a 4 star but I didn't know it and it was never stated in the manual that IR leds would glow while recording. There were about 20 recordings of 30 seconds each during the night. Some were triggered by the dog walking aimlessly and also captured my waking up twice in the middle of the night walking on the hallway heading to the bathroom. Overall, I'm satisfied with the product and I wish I could also cover the IR leds with electrical tape but then it would lose it's IR recording capability.

Camera and DVR work as expected. Picture Quality is good with natural lighting. Even in low light conditions. However, IR camera gives fair quality pics. at night. One note. The camera has a 2 sec. delay when operating under battery only conditions. But a 0.5 sec. delay when operated w power cord. This could make a difference when trying to "catch" a rapidly passing target.

Things I liked best: small size, easy to hide. Stand alone DVR w internal micro SD card (4gig).

Things I liked least: Red LED's for night operation, Complex date and time setting procedure.

However, I'm satisfied so far.

This camera works exactly as advertised. I did buy (separately) a 16gb SD card so I could capture more hours of data before the device starts copying over existing files. Resolution is decent and it is easy to download the files to a PC. Only drawback is you have to view individually a lot of 30 second files to find the one(s) with the bad guys.

Read Best Reviews of Dakota Alert DVR-01 Digital Video Recorder (DK-DVR-01) Category: Time Lapse VCRs and DVRs Here

I purchased this unit from Home Controls Inc. through Amazon. It is a basic unit that does pretty much what it says at the Home Controls site When it senses motion it films 30 seconds and saves the video and audio to an on-board micro-SD card (expandable.) Video quality is good for an inexpensive unit and it requires no wiring or external video recorder. (Daylight images are a little washed out because of the IR night vision, which is normal for this type of camera.)

Unfortunatley I received a defective unit which does keeps filming clips over and over once it has been triggered by motion. The manufacturer seems willing to back it up but since I purchased it through a third party I can only exchange by paying return shipping and waiting to get a replacement. Since I needed this camera for a specific purpose this week I am afraid that will be returning it.

This is a product that delivers exactly what it advertises. The product takes very clear videos and is fairly easy to setup and use. The only improvement that I see that could be made is if the product had a longer battery life. I would highly recommend this product. This DVD player was a perfect choice. We were looking to replace our old DVD player because it fritzed out and wasn't playing any of our Netflix videos, much less, any of our home ones. We weren't prepared to spend the several hundred dollars for an upgrade to a more expensive Blu-ray player. So we started looking around and found this player. The price was right and I gotta tell ya it was a really good buy. It plays well on our flat screen and the picture is amazing. Not as amazing as the Blu-ray, but, much better than regular t.v. We had simple integration with our home theatre system as well. Overall this was an excellent value for our money.

It works fine for us. We have a non-digital TV and just want something to play our movies.

The DVD player is claimed to give you near HD picture. I compared to my HD signal from my cable provider and the DVD player does not compare. I am not sure how they can make this claim, most likely they found a technical way to legally claim this but I wouldnt buy this player expecting anything near the HD quality of a 1080i (and obviously not 1080p) output. Overall it is a good buy though. Looks good, slim, light. Good buy for the price.

Though technically correct, it has very small remote control with small buttons spaced out only 9 mm (less than 3/8 inch) horizontally and 10 mm (13/32 inch) vertically quite difficult for pressing with fingers even of average thickness of men in Europe or USA. It is lacking fast forward and reverse speeds between 4X and 64X, of which 8X and 16X are very useful, needed, and desired. It also does not have the search function and it does not show the total play time or remaining play time on its poor display. The graphical interface (menus) is substandard and scant. All together, it is poorly designed player though functional and quite sturdy. By far the worst is the remote control.

Instead, Toshiba SD4200 offers a better remote, but Toshiba SD7300 has an ergonomic remote, richness of functions, intelligent menus, and a legible display.

Does the job, but with little kids the remote is hard to keep track of sometimes. The unit does not have FF/RW buttons on it, so apaprt from loading the dvd everytime and sitting through the previews it is a good little player for the money. TAPE THE REMOTE SOMEWHERE SAFE!! :)

It has been extremely frustrating having to discard this

equipment due to malfunction and even worse,

having placed a claim that was the first time

dispatched as a gift, and after replacing it for a

second time (also by malfunctioning) finally the

equipment did not work properly. I lost my money because

the provider does not return the money. I want my money back.

When I received my MP3 in the mail, I thought it was a small and slim cute thing. The only irritating thing about this MP3 is that you have to access the volume button through the inner circle bottom';when pushing the button to turn it down,it it turns it up and you have to play around in which direct spots to push that'll turn it. The same goes for going through your list if music. Otherwise, it works and plays well. They come with a great quality earplugs.

it didn't really work, looks nothing like the picture, bad quality.

the buttons are not even correct matched with the functions.

It looks NOTHING like the picture, and it can't play any of my music. It's made of really cheap plastic and is an over all piece of crap. Don't be fooled by the price, you get what you pay for!

VideoSecu 700TVL Built-in Sony Effio CCD Infrared Outdoor Dome Security Camera Vandal Armor Day Nig

VideoSecu 700TVL Built-in Sony Effio CCD Infrared Outdoor Dome Security Camera Vandal Armor Day Night Vision Camera for CCTV DVR Surveillance System with Power Supply, Pre-Amp Mini Hidden Microphone and Video Audio Power Cable A77Camera hooks into my dvr with a standard bnc connector. I have it installed outside of my house and the picture quality during daylight hours is pretty good, no better then any other camera I have 4 others (2) 420 tvls, (2)540 tvls, in fact it fails the others at night due to the fact it fogs up terribly at night so its nightime range is about 10 feet and hazy. Not sure but I thought a camera with 700 tvls would actually look better then cheaper 25 to 30 dollar cameras but this one definately doesn't. I didn't try the included microphone but it looks good enough.

has a non std bnc connector which reqd an adaptor. this camera works ok. agressive agc so its mostly b&w but does switch to color.

halo effect at night.

I ordered cameras with mini microphones and when I finally got the tech to show up and install them, there was no microphone included. I am now stuck with cameras I did not want, or forced to pay extra tech costs, etc. in excess of the value of the cameras. HORRIBLE SERVICE FOR A DEDICATED AND LONG TIME CUSTOMER!!!!!

ADS TECHNOLOGIES Media-Link

ADS TECHNOLOGIES Media-LinkWhile I think the overall idea is great, ADS Tech really developed a poor solution to the problem.

Setting it up isn't hard: install some software on your computer, plug the box into your computer, a little bit of configuration, and you should be able to view media on your TV.

It works some of the time. When it does work, the menus are really slow and difficult to navigate. If I had it all to do over again, I would purchase a Mac mini for double the price. At least the UI makes sense.

I use it for watching movies while on the treadmill. I'm kinda a video geek movies have to be in mpeg avi format. I have 2 in my house and use them daily. I only use video option not picture or music options.

RCA VCA115 VHS-C Cassette Adapter

RCA VCA115 VHS-C Cassette AdapterThe adapter is a great idea for playing VHS-C tapes in your regular VCR but mine stuck in the VCR every time I used it. All regular VCR tapes worked fine. It needs some refining

Must say i should have bought this instead of the powerless type of adapter.Do not waste your money on the non-battery type! I am not lying when i say the powerless adapter lasted 1 playback. Total junk. They rely on 100% mechanical operation and it makes the tape bind up when trying to deploy it. I was actually worried that it would cause the tape to tear or break.

Ok, now on to the good news. This RCA battery powered adapter is a GEM, i used it in my VHS-C to DVD recorder. I converted about 25 cassettes to DVD and not one time did the RCA adapter fault. The single battery (AA i think) lasted easily for 30+ hours or so of playback time and is ready for more.

I have nothing bad to say about the RCA VCA115!

In a nutshell: If you are thinking about saving money and getting the battery-less type you are in for a surprise. Just spend a little more and save yourself allot of headache and frustration.

If you've ever needed an adapter to review your old VHS-C tapes on a regular VCR, then this is the one !! When it arrived I put the supplied batteries into it and cranked it up. Worked perfectly. No worries, no hassles, no problems. I would like to tell everyone that this is one product that will work the 1st time, and every time after that. Great stuff !!

Google Android 4.0 ARM Cortex A9 HDMI HD 1080P Wifi Internet TV Set-Top Box Media Player Black

Google Android 4.0 ARM Cortex A9 HDMI HD 1080P Wifi Internet TV Set-Top Box Media Player BlackXBMC is not smooth. Very slow on live streams. Live channel lovers please wait for a better hardware acceleration. Especially crashes all the time. Remote with mouse is very irritating. You need a wireless mouse to have easy access to on screen key board and navigation.

Rgds,

Kalai

I was very disappointed with this item. I bought it specifically to use with my TV (Netflix) and it is not compatible at all. I am not even able to watch YouTube videos. Waste of time product... Buyer beware!!! I will not recommend this item for those of you seeking to use it for the same as I was....

This is a complete Android PC. It comes with some popular websites, and Google Play store. You can install various Android apps. You can use this system easily like all other Android tablets and phones. Many Android apps were written for Android tablets and phones. You can still install and use them, without difference. Of course, you need to shuffle the screen left and right to mimic the touchscreen effect. When you open a website, most likely you enter the mobile version, as the website treats your system as Android tablet. Hard drive is sufficient to install many apps.

There are several disadvantages: 1) YouTube. The latest YouTube version does not work on this Android 4.0. But you can install an earlier version. 2) There is no upgrade on OS to 4.1, etc. There is a pre-installed Upgrade icon, but the connection to server does not work.

I recommend you buying a wireless Air Mouse. It works perfect with this system. In the end, this is an excellent product with good performance (response, stability, heat dissipation, ease to use). Inexpensive and complete Android PC.

This is the 4th Android TV box I have tried. It will not launch or run the current version of XBMC. If you intend on using it for XBMC to stream movies you can get much better results from a G-Box Midnight or G-Box Sav for about the same or less cost. At least they work out of the box. If you want the best bang for your money a MK808 beats this thing hands down in performance. It's also less than half the cost at this time. The little MK808 is not without flaw but replacing the stock firmware with the Finless 1.6 ROM makes it a real winner. I bought this one because I wanted to give it as a gift to a friend with an older TV who needed the component connectivity this thing offers. Since it wont run XBMC it's pretty much useless.
