SecuVox 4GB Motion Detection Night Vision HD Clock Camcorder and Player (Silver)

SecuVox 4GB Motion Detection Night Vision HD Clock Camcorder and PlayerI bought this and returned it. I may have gotten a defective product that is why I am unhappy. The concept of the product is great but it just wasn't functioning right. I wrote a review in the sharper image website after being asked to rate the product but since I rated it low, they never posted my review.

So I am glad that it is available here at Amazon so I can let you know about this product. The concept of the item is great. But it is not well made. The buttons on the unit itself does not react right away when you press it. The remote can be confusing to use because instead of saying what the buttons are for, they are just marked A B C. So you have to keep guessing what those letters mean. It uses this really oversized rechargeable AA battery that when you put it in the unit, it is difficult to take it out. There is no AC adapter and you have to keep charging the unit using your computer but the unit won't fully charge that is why I think it was defective in the first place.

I suggest you purchase a better item at Amazon which maybe a little bit more expensive but may have better reviews than what I am writing for this product.

I have mixed feelings about my purchase of this device. It works as advertised. The buttons are a little clumsy to use, as one has to press a button for "eight seconds" for a command to register. Additional buttons may have been helpful. However, the real Achilles heel of the device, at least in my case, appears to be the battery. I charged it repeatedly, but the whole thing dies after a few days. It works for an afternoon, certainly, but when I leave it somewhere for a week, not only is its dead, so is its memory. I really think that given the design parameters and the need for cheapness, its engineers must be commended for their efforts; however, its usefulness would have been greatly enhanced if it had either an outlet plug-in or a double battery to enhance its longevity.

But, hey, it works.

I purchased the Clock camcorder for my room, when I am gone to work. The first day, it kept cutting itself on, but no one had entered the room, and nothing had moved. No open windows, where wind could blow. I even covered the numbers on my cable box, so that the time changing wouldn't activate it. The second day.... I got much of the same, it just kept activating itself with no movement detected. The third day..... It just stopped working altogether. The instructions do not include troubleshooting tips, nor does it have a customer service number. I wouldn't even purchase this junk for novelty reasons. Nor would I ever dream of connecting it to my computer. I would not recommend this to anyone, not even as a gag gift. Back to the drawing board for me.

I would not waste my money on this item. The construction is inferior, the documentation is confusing, and the thing does not work. The SIMM card is flimsy and there are no instructions for how to insert the card and no way to know when it is properly seated. The instructions tell you to push buttons that do not exist. A fully charged battery lasts only a few hours, so overnight surveillance is not possible. The playback feature is useless.

2GB LCD Digital Audio Voice Recorder Dictaphone MP3 Player

2GB LCD Digital Audio Voice Recorder Dictaphone MP3 Playervoice recorder has lots of uses. the instructions are a little vague, but adequate. this recorder even records telephone calls.

I had read the reviews for the 4GB version of this, and read that it is great foreveryday use.

I found that it is very slow to start up, and neaerly 5 seconds pass before it starts recording. There is also no brand, so I had nothing else to reference but the small booklet (which is very unhelpful) that came with it.

The main reason I bought this was for the MP3 fomat, but I couldn't figure out how to change the recording format, and like I said, the booklet that it came with was terrible.

Another thing was, neither my laptop nor my work desktop recognized the device, so I was not able to transfer the files. By recognize, I mean even popping up as a USB device.

I do not recommend this item.

CIB R401H60W500G8752-8401 4CH Surveillance DVR Four CCD Cameras 500GB KIT. Ea...

CIB R401H60W500G8752-8401 4CH Surveillance DVR Four CCD Cameras 500GB KIT. Ea...I ordered this after reading the description thouroughly. I was under the impression that the whole system supported sound, meaning the cameras sent sound to the DVR and it would allow one channel sound to be monitored at a time. All the cameras DO NOT have sound outputs or cables. The DVR DOES have sound inputs, the RCA type, one for each camera and one output to match the monitor out. The video connections are BNC type. Don't order this if you NEED SOUND. You won't have sound from any camera supplied with this system.

Now the positive part of the review. The DVR and all the cameras have very solid feel and the DVR functions are very acceptable. The remote works well. It can even be hooked up to the internet for monitoring while away. So if you need a very decent DVR with NO SOUND from the cameras for a decent price this fits that bill.

After using this product for 2 months, I shall say that I am very satisfied with it.

Delivery was very quick. It came sooner than expected. A pleasant surprise given that it was during Christmas seasons.

The 4 cameras that come with the system are good enough to cover all entance/exit of our restaurant. I thought the intallation was complicated but it turned out quite simple. Did not spend much time on the installtion.

Quality of the picture/video is good enough.

It is a good deal at this price.

USA Security Store / CIB Security is a company that stands behind their product. This is a good intro system for home or small business. The DVR has the features you would want and the cameras work as advertised. The software for remote access works. I installed myself. I already have network experience. So, not so hard for me. But for the not so technical type CIB support is great phone or email.

Sony VMC20FR AV Cable

Sony VMC20FR AV CableI purchased this cable to use with my iPod, after learning that Apple had simply switched the leads when they manufactured their own "iPod AV cable." They did that to trick people into purchasing their own AV cables. At any rate, this AV cable by Sony is higher quality than iPod's, has good length, and works with iPods (and various other video products I'm sure). For the iPod, simply plug the red plug into the video port on your TV and the yellow plug in the red port on your TV.

Update: I've used this cable for several years, and it still works great. I just wanted to make sure people knew this cable will not work for video with newer iPods...and it won't work with any iPhones. The newer Apple products require that the A/V cable have an authentication chip before it will open the TV Out option. Bummer.

Enables the Sony Vaio notebook to output Stereo Audio and Composite Video to RCA plugs for input to Television and stereo amp. Works just as advertised.

Sold by Amazon, but actually shipped by Adorama Camera... Sony retail packaging, this is slightly longer (2m) than the OEM cable (1.5m?) and is gold tip. The cable is otherwise identical in every other regard. If your looking for a replacement and want a Sony cable this is it, at least for the one I received (Amazon purchase). Beware of other resellers as it may not be an original Sony cable if thats what your specificaly after (recommending checking with sellers if it is Sony retail packaging.

Great price for this cable to connect my Sony Hi8 Camcorder to my Tivo to transfter some old analog videos to my Tivo DVR. Great value!

Want Sony VMC20FR AV Cable Discount?

The cable works well for a Sony DCR TRV 130 digital video recorder. It is the cable that plugs into the camera and lets you play to a TV or other device with RCA type inputs. I used it to transfer family movies from the camera to a DVD recorder. The quality seems to be very good.

I highly recommend being careful who you buy from as there are apparently a lot of knock offs out there. I highly recommend buying directly from Amazon or go to the reviews of the sellers to see if they are shipping quality cables.

GSI MP4/MP3 '8 GB' Player with FM Radio, Camera, Voice Recorder, USB Portable, 2.8-inch Touchscreen, Bilingual --- Top Value

  • You can play AVI, RM, RMVB, FLV, Some WMV and Some MPEG4 videos files WITHOUTH the need for conversion
  • Built-in rechargeable lithium battery, with up to 5 hrs for Video and 10 hrs for Music

I ordered this and when it came it didn't have all the features that it said it did. No FM radio and no contact icon, or place to put contact info, no You Tube icon, and no calculator. So I like what I have seen so far, but the first day I used it it went black and I couldn't get it back on til day three , by holding the on button and reset at the same time. I will send it back , because I wanted more features, but dread it because then I have to go through the whole process of getting another one and waiting for it to come then figuring it out. With this one though, the best way I found to put videos on was to convert them to 320x420 like in a psp format of an MP4. These work best. Oh and haven's figured out how to put my songs in the favorite folder either.

This is a good mp5 came in 3 days and has allot of uses even though it mostly uses avi and 3gp the video player is good. The music player is a bit confusing but not after you understand how to use it. The camera could be better as well as the touch screen,or at least get a pen for it. The games are ok but i dont know if you can add more. The thing that I didn't like is the earphones that come with it over all it is great especially for its price.

The watch looks nice and heavy but the image is low quality. In the model I bought the IR light was not working and the USB was being recognized ony 1/5 of the times in any of the four computers i tried. In addition, the camera recorded for a maximum of 50 seconds and then turned off automatically (even after charging for 5 hours). really disappointed about this watch. I returned it.

S9D Mini DVR HD Video Recorder U8 USB DISK Cam Camera Motion Sensor Detector

S9D Mini DVR HD Video Recorder U8 USB DISK Cam Camera Motion Sensor DetectorFor the price, I guess its ok. The picture is pretty good. Audio can go from clear to a loud hum, depending on what it's near and the charge in the battery. Best I have been able to do is get about 1hr of video shot before the battery dies. Have not been able to active it while charging, although several articles I read stated you could. Have not been able to active the motion sensing feature. The auto shutoff seems to take over before anything can trigger the sensing. Wish it had better battery life.

Its a cool little toy, just gotta figure out how to use it, since instuctions were written by Chinese guy with no command of writing in English...

So far, to change time and date: Plug into Computer, Open Files, right click (Notepad) folder [TAG text document 1k], Open With (WordPad), change the time and date to the right time and date (plus about 1 min depending on how slow you are) on Command bar, click (File), click (Save), unplug!!! Make a new video, plug back in!!! Should be the right time and date I hope!!! LOL, WHAT A PAIN IN THE ASS FIGURING THAT OUT!!!

Motion detecting: Long Press K1 button,(furthest from lense or closest to USB plug, whichever you can wrap your mind around) til long vibrate n blue light, then light stays red, then quick press K3 button, 3 quick vibrates, 3 blue flashing lights, then light goes out and now its in recording Mode (if you just want to make a recording)... THEN QUICK PRESS K1 BUTTON AGAIN, BLUE LIGHT WILL FLASH 6 TIMES, NOW ITS IN MOTION DETECTING MODE!!! Set it down in pre tested spot for maximum view and sound... Will make 2 min recordings soon as motion is detected, til battery wears down or shuts down, havn't figured out that yet,(depend on short bursts, not all day stuff) think it has like 2 hr max??? Long press K1 to turn off, plug in, PLAY YOUR VIDEO'S and BUST UM, LOL funny, my girlfriend wants to know where this little toy is at all times!!! LMAO LOVE YOU LONG TIIIMMMMMEEEE

Oh and remember, pin hole mic is always on the left or you will record upside down, I marked the topside with a couple drops of nail polish for easy identifing... Good Hunting

I was hoping that by plugging this into my computer I would be able to navigate and make it work. Instead you have to be able to download data from a mini dvd. The directions are in English but are very confusing. Some words are just wrong. Also, listed as a product feature is ..."Fit for hotel/restaurant/public toilet/changing room, etc" ...public toilet, changing room, WTF...really??

Note: I was fooled into thinking this was HD or High Definition. I see a lot of these mini spy cameras claiming to be HD or "High Definition" but please know that they are promoting the PHOTO Resolution NOT the Video Resolution, so be warned! The VIDEO Resolution of this camera is NTSC DV 720 x 480p. So that makes this camera's resolution DV 480p NOT HD 720p. If you want these to record properly, you need to get an SD card that is at least 8 16 Gigabytes and is rated at CLASS(6)or(10), do not use a CLASS(4) it will choke. Also, this will not work without an SD card inserted and it MUST BE FORMATTED FIRST. FORGET THE DIRECTIONS! FORMAT and insert a CLASS(10) SD card, notice there are 3 buttons on the unit, one side has only one button, the other has two. Lets call the side with two, the "Left" Side. On the left side (two buttons) press and hold in, the button closest to the USB connector. The unit will power on and vibrate. Wait 10 15 seconds (very important) before you press any other button or the unit will malfunction and shut down. Make sure when you are shooting that the two buttons are always on the left, this will assure that the video will be captured right side up and not upside down. SO now with the unit powered up, to shoot video press the other of the two buttons on the left side (closest to the lens) and hold it. The light will blink and turn off, you are now recording video. When you are finished, press the second button once and the light will come back on. You have now captured a video clip. To take a photo or capture voice, follow the above steps to turn the unit on, wait 10 15 seconds and then press and hold the single button on the right side for audio only, or press the power button once to take a photo. I completely stripped this out of its plastic shell and mounted it to the bottom of a Hubsan x4 Quad Copter. It actually works pretty good and I have no complaints, just wish it was HD. I'll upgrade soon if I can find a true HD mini cam. Enjoy!

Want S9D Mini DVR HD Video Recorder U8 USB DISK Cam Camera Motion Sensor Detector Discount?

The instructions are not the simplest to follow, but I found that you can work it out pretty fast. Once you insert the memory card and plug it into your computer, the file directory is already set up (videos, photographs, and audio recordings). Just give it a full charge and you are set to go. I bought this to attach to a radio controlled airplane to record some fun flight footage. The picture quality was surprisingly good for what it is (don't expect high-res quality video footage). I would recommend this for someone that has a limited application where you need a light DVR in a small package and don't expect the best quality video.

Panasonic DMRE50S DVD Player/Recorder , Silver

Panasonic DMRE50S DVD Player/Recorder , Silver
  • Records DVD-R, DVD-RAM for best of both worlds; plays DVD-Video, DVD-R, DVD-RAM, CD-R, CD-RW, and MP3-CD
  • Offers one-touch record, chasing playback (watching a recording in progress from the beginning)
  • Progressive-scan video output for seamless, flicker-free picture on high-definition and HD-ready televisions
  • Time Slip lets you replay a scene recorded earlier from a show in progress without disrupting the recording
  • On-disc video editing lets you tighten up or rearrange your home movies

I purchased my panasonic dvd recorder in February of 2003. For the most part the system has worked extremely well. You do need to test and make sure the "finalized" dvd-r discs will be read by the dvd player you wish to play them on.

As far as discs, the quality and experience has varied. I have had mediocre results with Imation, Memorex. I have had excellent results from Verbatim. Most of my recordings have been on the DVD-R, but I also record on DVD-RAM, edit and copy onto the DVD-R discs(because they are less expensive).

The only issue I have had, if you begin to record, and stop recording quickly (15-30 seconds), the disc sometimes becomes unusable. An easy solution to this problem is it let the recorder continue recording for a minute or two, then stop the recording and the erase it.

All in all, this unit has exceeded my expectations. It has allowed me to copy many programs and films to dvd.

One other recommendation, I also purchased the Panasonic DVD player (Less than $100) that had a rebate ($30) that will play DVD-R and DVD-Ram. So anything I record can be played on the player and watched, or (are you ready) can be played on the player and recorded on the recorder, for mixing dvd's or editing and then copying the dvd-ram recording to the less expensive dvd-r discs.

And, I have sucessfully been able to keep my dvd-r cost down to about $1.50 each, and the dvd-r to just above $4.00 each.

Buy Panasonic DMRE50S DVD Player/Recorder , Silver Now

This DVD recorder makes 2 hour recordings on DVD-R that I cannot distinguish from a live satellite tv broadcast. The unit was able to use one dollar generic brand DVD-Rs disc. It was possible to playback both on my computer DVD drive and on other home DVD players The unit is compact and quiet. There are three line-in inputs (RCA and S-video). A minor negative is the lack of a firewire connection for connecting a miniDV camcorder. I have not tested the DVD RAM feature that allows re-using the DVD RAM disc repeatedly. It comes with one free DVD RAM disc; these cost about Five dollars each. Set up is quick and straightforward. The remote is comlicated but does everything it's supposed to do. There is a "flexible record" (FR) feature that use the complete space available on the disc so that recording are of maximum quality. The unit is able to ecord up to 6 hours onto a single 4.7 GB DVD-R but the instuctions say that quality deteriorates noticeably if you go much over the two hour limit. Recordings that I have made in the 2 hour range looked great, better than anything I've seen from a VCR, but not as perfect as a store bought DVD. The source material affects the appearance: a broadcast of a grainy, faded movie looks grainy and faded on the recording whereas newer material looked very good.

I bought this from Amazon. The item was in my PO box four days after I ordered it. The price was the lowest I saw from a major source. Shipping was free and the price came to nearly one hundred fifty less than I would have paid had I walked into C*rcuit C*ty to buy the exact same thing. A minor shipping negative: Amazon sent this expensive item thorugh the mail in it's own box which obviously identifies it as an expensive piece of electonic equipment.

I have been watching the market for a DVD recorder for a couple of years. I'am really glad that I waited for this model (DMR-50). You will not have a problem with this unit if you will read and re-read as necessary the owners manuel. The other thing is DO NOT USE CHEAP DISCS. I've been using Ritek 1X DVD-R blanks and have not had that first problem with recording or playback on anything that is DVD-R compatable. The picture quality is good if not great at all recording speeds. The Sound is the same and agree with all the other reviewers. I wish we could record in surround sound , but I guess they are saving that for a later model. I Play back through a surround system that takes the sterio signal and makes it 4 channel and it is close to the surround effect. All and all I'am impressed with this unit and recomend it highly. Thanks for taking the time to read this and I hope it helps you to decide if this is for you.

Want Panasonic DMRE50S DVD Player/Recorder , Silver Discount?

I bought the Panasonic DMR-E50S to transfer my old VHS tapes to DVD and I am absolutely thrilled with this unit! While the instructions are somewhat difficult to get through, the results are amazing! Using XP speed and copying one of my VHS-C cartridges to DVD-R (Memorex, by the way), the copy was wonderful! I also like the added feature of being able to put titles on each segment of a recording, that is pretty neat.

Amazon.com has a very good price. I paid the $12.00 s/h because I wanted to get the unit fast, even though I could have had free s/h. I ordered it on a Monday, and had it at my house that Thursday! The only problem I had was when I hooked up a newer DVD/VHS player to it and tried to copy my old tapes. I believe because of copyright issues with the DVD/VHS unit, it couldn't be done, which doesn't make any sense, since they are MY recordings! However, when I hooked up an older VHS model, I didn't have any problems. All in all, I am extremely happy with this product. Can't wait to try out all other cool editing features.

As a new comer to the world of DVD I was a little sceptical about DVD recorders. No more.

This piece of kit has just blown me away! Maybe I'm easily pleased but it just makes Video recorders utterly obsolete. No more dodgy recordings,no more accidental erasures, no more frantically searching for a space on the tape, no more anything you have to put up with using a VHS recorder.

Now, I'll come down to earth for a while and explain why it's so good and be a little more objective about some of the features.

This recorder uses DVD RAM and DVD R discs. Uh? Well DVD RAM discs you can record over and over (approx 100,000 times!!!) and DVD R are record only. Obviously the RAM's are more expensive. However a RAM disc comes with the recorder and I still haven't needed to buy another yet! Well that's just me. You can get 4.7 gig discs (supplied) or 9.7 gig discs.

Still with me?

The Panasonic can record on 4 different resolutions. So this is where the reality comes in. XP, SP, LP and EP. Now the lower the resolution (EP is lowest) the less memory is used and the more you can fit on a disc. So that basically means more recording time. However, the lower the resolution the inferior the picture. And I've got to say that LP and SP are not really watchable for me personally. Others may find it O.K.but the quality resembles a really coarse video streamed off the internet, you know the kind of thing? So generally I don't use these, but SP and especially XP are superb. So, a 4.7 gig disc will give you 1 hours recording on XP, 2 hours on SP, 4 hours on LP and 6 hours on EP. Bored yet?

So the bigger the RAM disc the more you can record at high resolutions. Phew! That's that over with.

Now there is this Time Slip feature. I can't really see the point of this but it's kinda cool. You can watch something while it's being recorded. WOW. What I mean is that you can sort of rewind the disc to an earlier record time and watch it while the programme is still being recorded. (This is sounding like Quantum physics now) Anyway, if that floats your boat then all well and good. But for me, the really sweet feature is the ability to watch a previously recorded programme while recording a completely different one. Example: Friday night you record ER because you're going out. Saturday night you decide to watch the episode of ER you recorded but then realise that there is something on NOW that you really must watch. Simple. Start recording the programme you wanted to watch NOW and then enter the user friendly menu system, select the recorded ER episode and press play. It plays and records at the same time. Sweeeeeeeet!!! It's that easy and just brilliant.

There's loads more stuff in ther also like, partial erase, moving recorded programmes around, editing etc. etc. Great for people who like editing their own videos.

I know I must sound like a Panasonic PR bod but really, I'm just a humble TV watcher with basic knowledge of audio visual stuff. If i can use this thing then, seriously, anyone can. It's an absolute breeze and for the price (internet [$$$]?)real value for money.

It's the future, buy it.

A good buy! My Grandmother's TV has only a CATV input so this combo works great without having to buy a converter. If I ever buy a widescreen plasma display for Grammy, I can use the progressive scan component inputs as well! Anyway, I just hooked up the rabbit ears to the input and the TV to the output. I was up and running in no time!

Cable, KP-18 USB for DS-2 & DS-20

Cable, KP-18 USB for DS-2 & DS-20I managed to lose my USB cable for my Olympus DS-2 and was shocked to pave to pay 21.99 for a replacement. (I only paid 70 for the recorder!)

While this price was competitive, I don't think it can be justified.

By the way, I found my missing USB cable 2 days after the new one arrived.

Olympus Stylus 7030 14 Megapixel Digital Camera - Blue

Olympus Stylus 7030 14 Megapixel Digital Camera - BlueMy old camera met it's doom in Yellowstone National park. I had him for a few years and used him off and on. Finding a replacement was gonna be difficult because I didn't want to spend a whole lot, but I still wanted a good quality. I gotta say, this camera is that good quality without a HUGE pricetag. Panorama sweeps are absolutely epic and stitched very well. The interface is awesome and you can go from Auto, to sort of Auto, to everything being manually set. I don't work with the cool stuff (beauty, magic, etc) 'cause I don't think they're that great. Any sort of editing I feel should be done on the computer, not on the camera. But aside from that, this is pretty much amazing. Really small, a lot smaller than my last camera that had 4 AA batteries, and that was hard to get used to. Definitely "slim." I think the most useful setting is the "macro" as I can shove the lens right up to the object and he's totally fine with it. His battery also lasts me weeks. I've only charged him the original charge and once again more recently and I got him in the middle of February. He's not on all the time, but I have the constant "turn off" "turn on" mode going on. So that has to count for something. :)

If I were to have a problem with this. It would be that the timer automatically sets back to automatic. So if you're trying to do a series of pictures that you need a 2/12 second time for, you're doing a lot of button pushing. Also, if you use the flash when the camera light is set to "incandescent," everything is blue. Doesn't matter if it was red before, it is now blue. However, I don't really use the flash that often, so that's not really a concern for me, but if you are the type of person who does use flash, just be wary of how the light settings affect the flash.

Sony Professional HVRM25U HDV Record/Playback Deck

Sony Professional HVRM25U HDV Record/Playback DeckFor professional use, classic Sony quality. There's really nothing else like it on the market. The JVC equivalent costs almost as much and JVC always comes across as more of a "consumer" item.

Menu set-up will be difficult for non-pros, but if you're buying this you're probably already beyond "consumer level," so you'll know how to deal with it. I added a component video out card (from B&H Photo/Video) that Amazon did not carry. The picture output quality to a component video monitor is fantastic especially "downscaled" HDV to a standard definition monitor. You'll be able to use one of these decks in almost any digital video production environment.

Memorex 210 MB 24x Pocket CD-R Mini-Discs 50-Pack Spindle

Memorex 210 MB 24x Pocket CD-R Mini-Discs 50-Pack SpindleThe pocket cdr's are becoming more and more popular lately with some digital camera's now using them. Personally, however, I've found that they work great in normal cd burners and come in handy for use with larger presentations (particularly powerpoint) that you'd have to waste a whole normal size CDR to burn or take the risk of saving to a Zip disk and then not have any means to retrieve it. I've also found they come in handy for resumes as they give you a somewhat more professional look. The only downside I can find with the pocket Cd is that they aren't recommended for front loading drives and some cd-roms seem to take forever to recognize the disk. Otherwise, they're fantastic for personal use and to back up some of the smaller, more personal documents on your pc.

I have 2 of the CD-Mavica cameras. The CD-1000 uses these disks fine with no problems. However with the CD-500, about 2/3 of the disks have problems. I know it is not my camera causing this problem, I know several people with the same camera that have the same problem. If you have a CD-500, use the TDK brand disks, I have not had a problem with any of them.

Silicon Power 16GB Class 10 SDHC Memory Card

Silicon Power 16GB Class 10 SDHC Memory CardI started researching the different brands of SDHC cards before I bought my Sanyo camcorder. There are planty to choose from, low end cheap to high end $$$. After reading an article on the Silicon Power 16GB Class 10 card and Sanyo's HD camcorders, I decided to give it a try. On full HD mode, it records flawlessly. Play back and down loading is the same. It's half the price of several high end Class 6 cards but with Class 10 speed which is important with HD camorders. I plan to buy another soon. If you don't want to break the bank but want Class 10 minimum Read/Write, I suggest a Silicon Power SDHC.

Intended to use as "Readyboost" however the SDHC Class 10 labeled card failed to write at expected "class 10" speed. Testing proved around 5 MB/sec.

I'm not a professional photographer but I am a dedicated amateur and this card does everything I've asked it to do. I have a new

Fuji digital SDHC camera so I didn't expect any problems and indeed I experienced none. I've tried every one of the camera's dozens of shooting options including instant zoom (produces three photos with different magnification) multi-shot, and video. The card performed well in all cases though I'm not a stickler for write speed and have no idea how fast it performed these functions. Nice big card at a good price. Recommended.

Cobra MicroTalk CXR900 30-Mile 22-Channel FRS/GMRS Two-Way Radio (Pair)

Cobra MicroTalk CXR900 30-Mile 22-Channel FRS/GMRS Two-Way Radio
  • 30 Mile Range, 22 Channels & 142 Privacy Codes
  • 10 Channel NOAA radio, Digital Voice Recorder,Hands-free operation (VOX) & VibrAlert Silent Paging
  • 2 Lithium ion battery packs and a 2-Port desk top mini-charger included
  • Maximum range extender and belt clip included for maximum efficiency and carrying ease
  • Lead-Free

We got these expecting better range. After doing a lot of research, I knew it would be no where close to the 30+ miles they advertise, and would have been happy with just a couple of miles.

Only tested on one outing: open interstate highway only got about 3/10 of a mile. Extremely disappointing! And this was after purchasing the $85 license to use them in GMRS high power mode!

Other features are nice, including the weather radio. But if you're looking for range...better try somewhere else.

I ordered 4 sets of these for use in a large warehousing operation. Our associates really like the product, but we have had to return 1 set. Of the 2 radios I returned, one would not power on and the other one had very low volume when turned up all of the way. The return process was extremely easy to use and thus far, we have had no additional problems. I found the pricing on Amazon the lowest due to the free shipping that went along with the order.

The first unit I received after a few uses stopped working. The transmit button on one of the radios did not work at all. After talking to Cobra I got them to pay for the return shipping. Well the next set of radios they sent me after a few uses also stopped working. I was in the woods of Colorado and lost contact with my hiking group for over 1 hour on flat ground no more than 1 mile away from each other. After non stop trying the radios started to work again but at that time we were only 200 yards apart. So I am calling Cobra again in the morning. Not sure what I will do as I wont get money back at this time and do I really want a 3rd radio sent to me after 2 bad sets. This is not something I want to rely on the woods if I needed it to work. I have an old pair of Cobra radios 8 years old that still work and never had an issue. These new units are smaller and made in China and cheap but the poor quality shows. I hope you have better luck than I did.

very goo for camping and driving with friends in the mountains wheres there is no cell signal. Good for min of 3-4 miles on mountain roads and very far on open areas.

AT&T 1739 Corded Digital Answering System, White

AT&T 1739 Corded Digital Answering System, WhiteI returned this to the store a week after buying it. I was hoping this would be an economical replacement to voice mail but I just couldn't get over the cons.

Pros:

* Cheap

* Easy to set up and use

* 40 minutes of messages and voice memos @ up to 3 minutes/message. I don't know why the other reviewer only got 14 minutes maybe he misunderstood when it said "40. Minutes. Remaining."? Mine had 40.

* Did a good job of detecting when the phone was picked up.

Cons (in order):

* Poor call quality. Most of the calls I got sounded distorted at best. Unless the person spoke very clearly and enunciated purposefully, it was hard to understand the message. The announcer's voice sounds great, so I don't think the problem is with the speaker.

* Ridiculous feedback! If I answered my phone within 3 feet of the unit, it would cause very strong feedback. I had to keep them *away* from each other.

* No date setting. It asks you to enter the year and the day but doesn't allow you to set the date. Your message is "Sunday at 6:15pm"... which Sunday?

* Hardwired cord. Not a big deal but it would have been nice if it had a jack instead so I could use the cord I already had snaked behind my entertainment system.

When I say old fashioned, I mean, this is a great device from the 90's that nobody uses anymore because of voice mail. Since we purchased this handy device, I can once again screen calls, listen to messages without going through a tree of menus, or remember a passcode to enter the voice mail system. I say, bring back your old and tired answering machines! Regress, my friends, regress!

This machine in particular is very easy to use, thanks to an all digital recording system. It is fairly easy to setup but does leave something to be desired as far as sound quality. Good for the price though and small footprint.

Buy AT&T 1739 Corded Digital Answering System, White Now

If you are still one of the few that use a stand-alone answering machine, this is probably as good as you can get. Sound is clear, and recorded messages are clear. You have 15 minutes of recording (14 after you record your message). My last AT&T machine had 40 minutes, so I'm not sure why they shortened the time, but it is not a problem for me. The reason I gave it 4 stars, not 5, is because of the strange setup procedure. When you hit the setup button, you have to press it again at an exact moment (detailed in the instructions), otherwise it just repeats itself. This takes several tries and is not well explained. So set-up could be easier, but overall it is a nice small, clean machine. I attached it to the kitchen wall (tiles) with Velcro. None of these machines have wall mountings anymore. So if you still like stand-alone answerers, this machine has basic features that you need. It also interfaces with caller i.d. and can say the caller's number as the phone is ringing.

இ Fuzzy Wuzzy's Summary:

ѾѾѾѾ Recommended with warm fuzzies.

I bought this unit to replace an old AT&T 1710 digital answering machine that was still working okay, but I wanted its ability to record 40 minutes of messages instead of my old 1710 model's recording of only 10 minutes of messages. So much of this review is based on comparing the 1739 with my old, and far more basic, 1710 model...

ѾѾѾѾѾ Excellent 5-fuzzies feature ratings:

ѾѾѾѾѾ The amazingly unbeatable $18 low price!!! A lot of electronic features for far less than what some people pay for a few months of voice mail service (and far less than what many people spend at coffee shops during a single week).

ѾѾѾѾѾ Lots of features and configuration options for the low price. You can choose English or Spanish language presentation, the number of rings before the machine answers, a 3-digit user-defined remote access code (the 1710 only used an unchangeable 2-digit remote access code), whether to be able to listen to your outgoing announcement when the machine answers a call, whether the machine announces the caller's number when the phone rings, whether the incoming number is stored and announced prior to message playback, whether to accept blocked (private number) calls, and whether to have the machine audibly beep every 15 seconds when there are new messages.

ѾѾѾѾѾ Easy voice-narrated setup of all features. You just press and hold the [Setup] button and the machine guides you through all configuration settings. A recorded man's voice actually speaks to you and guides you through the setup process.

ѾѾѾѾѾ When you press the power button to turn it off, a voice speaks out, "The machine is off". And when you turn it back on, it tells you, "The machine is on. 40 minutes to record", telling you how much recording time is left on the unit.

ѾѾѾѾѾ My old 1710 model required 4 AA batteries to retain stored messages in case of a power outage. The 1739 does not need batteries to retain both the outgoing announcement and stored messages during a power outage.

ѾѾѾѾ Good 4-fuzzies feature ratings:

ѾѾѾѾ The machine does not record blank messages or messages consisting of just touch tone beeps. My old 1710 answering machine would often record my 2-digit remote access code touch tone beeps as separate messages every time I called in to retrieve messages, but this no longer happens with the 1739. Furthermore, my old 1710 used to record blank messages where someone (usually a wrong number dialed) would not say anything and just hang up. But with the 1739, I no longer have to wade through blank messages consisting only of silence on the other end. In addition, if the caller has not spoken up 6 or 7 seconds after the beep, the unit will disconnect the call, and not include the silence as a recorded message.

ѾѾѾѾ The 1739 has better phone keypad ergonomics when accessing the answering machine remotely. On my old 1710, you had to remember a non-intuitive layout of keypad commands, or carry the pocket-sized command reference card with you when you were away from home. Now with the 1739, all of the most common commands are placed between phone keypad numbers 1 through 6, and if you do not have your command reference card with you, you can always press the '5' number on your phone to get a narrated help guide that describes what all possible remote commands were available.

ѾѾѾ Average not-good not-bad 3-fuzzies feature ratings:

ѾѾѾ The clarity of both the digitally recorded announcement and incoming messages is not much better than my very old AT&T 1710 digital answering machine. I can still understand all words and phone numbers left by callers in the messages, but they can sound somewhat garbled or a bit muffled sometimes, requiring me to replay a message a few times every now and then. Perhaps a cruder digital recording approach was used in order to make the unit very inexpensive, but I would have gladly paid $20 or $30 more in order to get better sound recordings! If you are getting static on your recorded messages, you should try plugging the answering machine into a DSL filter; this will improve the overall sound quality, but, as mentioned, I had hoped that the clarity of both the outgoing announcement and incoming recorded messages would be noticeably better than what I had on my old 1710 model... instead, the sound quality between this new unit and my old model are about the same.

ѾѾѾ My old AT&T 1710 answering machine used a less-bright LED digit to display the number of incoming messages. But 1739 uses a much-brighter red LED display and, in addition, has a red On/Off button that always glows red when the unit is turned on. Depending on where you place this unit, the amount of red glow that emanates from this machine can be annoying in a darkened room, especially if this machine is placed in a bedroom. You can turn off both the LED display and glowing On/Off button by turning off the unit, but then you no longer record messages. It would have been nice to be able to either turn off the two sources of red light but leave the unit turned on or, better yet, have a dimmer option to reduce the glow that comes from the unit. Of course, you can always place something over the unit to cover up the red glow, but...

ѾѾѾ My old 1710 had two phone jacks for connecting the unit to the phone with one phone cord and connecting the unit to the wall jack with another phone cord. But for some odd reason, AT&T decided to use a non-removable telephone cord to connect the unit to the wall jack. This is okay if the supplied 5-foot cord is long enough to reach your wall jack, but you will need an extension cord if you need to place the unit farther than 5 feet from the wall jack.

ѾѾ Bad 2-fuzzies feature ratings:

ѾѾ As a test, I tried calling into the machine and leaving five kinds of short messages: "ET call home", "This is just a test", "Just a test", "Call James", and "Call me". The machine properly recorded "ET call home" and "This is just a test", but it did not record the "Just a test", "Call James", and "Call me" messages. I repeatedly tried these short 2, 3, and 4 word messages and it consistently did not record them as messages. This is bad! You may thus never receive messages left by callers who only say a few words and then hang up. There appears to be some minimum syllabic threshold required in a message in order for it to be recorded. This may present a problem if you have someone who quickly and tersely leaves a message of "Call me" and hangs up, resulting in the machine not recording the message and you not getting such a message. But, overall, I myself would consider the risk and consequences of losing such brief messages to be small since I expect most callers will leave at least a full sentence as a message, but it is definitely a potential problem with this product and I do wonder if I ever lose any quick short messages left by someone.

ѾѾ When the machine announces the time-stamp for each message, it only announces the day of the week, time, and year. During Setup, you can only configure the unit's clock for these attributes also. But knowing that a message was recorded on "Monday 3:36PM 2009" or "Thursday 6:03AM 2009" only means something if (a) you check your messages on a weekly basis, and (b) you do not keep old messages stored on the unit that were phoned in over one week ago. Otherwise, you may not know which "Monday" the message is referring to! This is a huge blooper of a design flaw that the AT&T engineers chose to track the day of the week but not the day of the year. I would have much preferred the unit to say "April 12 2009 3:36PM" instead of the far more vague "Sunday 3:36PM 2009".

What I like most about this machine is the variable speed playback of left messages, faster or slower, your choice. I've had no problem with voice clarity or feedback as mentioned in other reviews.Sound is loud and clear. Compact and easy to use I recommend it. It sounds better than most phone answer machine combos that I've had.
