When I looked at this thing, I was skeptical that it would work. After testing it, not only while it was in my pants pocket, but also 50 feet away in another room..... I had to say, wow! It really works great and has excellent clarity also. There is a slight delay when you start recording but it states that in the instructions. Pretty simple to operate: just charge it for a couple of hours, turn it on and start recording. Just haven't figured out how to erase previous recordings yet.

As with just about all Chinese-made products I've ordered recently, the instructions for this are terrible! How hard is it to get a fluent speaker of the language you're translating to to review for proper syntax, grammar and overall readability? I have 2 of these I bought to monitor my home. If you have a capture card on your computer these work great...hook up to a vcr is easy too but you better have an older unit with RCA ins. Also live monitoring via TV or thru a vcr is great but if you plan on recording thru the VCR, as I said before you'll need an older model that allows you to record from the line in. Or you'll need to convert an RCA (or S-Video) connector to Coaxal. I have a mutli-port capture card and some great software by Lorex that allows me to do more with the camera. also the 9 volt adapter is a great idea, but will only last around 2 1/2 hrs. All in all it's a good basic monitoring camera.

Took the kids on vacation. Great player to keep the kids occupied on a long flight. When I arrived I connected the DVD-LV75 to the TV where I was staying. With 25 movies in a CD case, it required practically no room at all. Great for the kids! (I only got one complaint on the plane from someone who didn't like the sound --with more than one viewer, we didn't use headphones) I waited for a 7" display DVD player and figured that while most other players were first generation, the Panasonic DVD-LV75 was the best bet as it is a second generation product and most of the bugs were worked out. I was right! I have had no problems. The battery lasts for at least two movies (4 hours).

Wow is the key word here! The Panasonic DVD-LV75 is not only the smallest portable DVD player on the market but probably has the most feature offerings as well! I get 3-4 hours play back on a single battery charge, the screen is crystal sharp, sound is awesome, and plays musical CD's as well.

After looking at several other brands ie: Sharp, Aiwa, this unit beats them hands down. The one thing the Panasonic DVD-LV75 has over the others is size!

Overall, this is a great product. I won't list the reasons why this is a great product because I would be repeating what everyone else in here has done. However, I will list the two flaws of the LV75.

1) The picture quality. I have to admit I traded in the Panasonic L50 for the LV75 because of the larger screen, no doubt about that. While the LV75 has the bigger screen, it loses the sharpness of what the L50 had. There's a slight pixelation per frame when solid colors of objects are displayed (like a wall or the sky).

2) Dual sided DVDs cannont be played. When a DVD offer a widescreen version on one side and fullscreen version on the other, the LV75 will not recognize the format and will not play (movies like Dogma, Austin Powers, 8mm, etc.). This is my major gripe because I cannot play some movies on the LV75.

This is a great product. The picture is great both on the unit as well as on the TV. Highlights:

1). Unlike some reviewers here, I have had NO PROBLEMS playing double sided DVDs. People should verify their claims before they whine generally about something that may be a specific problem with their unit. 2). The unit is very small and doesn't seem to get nearly as hot as the L-50. 3). My only concern is that the manual warns against using a car power source (cigarette lighter) for powering the unit. I don't know if Panasonic will come out with a car adaptor kit or not, but until then, I'll just have to use the battery.

The Panasonic DVD-LV75 offers great features in a small footprint. I searched the Internet, and the Panasonic came out ahead in most professional, and anecdotal, reviews of these types of products. I've used it in the mini-van for the kids, on planes, and on vacation. The screen delivers crisp, clear visuals, and the video and audio outputs allow you to hook it up to a TV for viewing at home (or in a vacation rental in Maine).

The only problems I have had are: 1. My 2-year old son was able to rip the cursor button off the unit and chew on it. Luckily, the button was not destroyed, and I could re-attach it. 2. I get interrupted on airline flights while viewing because people are VERY impressed and want to know all about it.

GREAT PRODUCT, and I have recommended it to a friend who purchased and is enjoying it as much as I have.

I bought these cases specifically because I needed cases that had a staggered holding pattern like is shown in the picture. They do not have the staggered holding pattern as is advertised. I don't know what cases they took pictures of but they are not the ones that they are actually selling. If a staggered design is what you are looking for then go somewhere else because this isn't it. In addition to that, the open/close locks are a bit flimsy. I find that you really have to focus to ensure that they are actually closed.

I ordered these because a few box sets i have purchased have the generic teeth that hold the DVD n place and some arrive broken or they just break after awhile and these are better made than the boxset DVD cases (most cases)and they don't have the cheap plastic dvd holder inside they have the circle with finger press they also have the sleeve on the outside so if u r buying them to replace a broken case you can slide the box sets artwork right into this case.tjese are the slim cases so be sure thats what your boxset uses if thats the reason for purchases.overall these are good and do what they r supposed to do and better price than I could find on the auction site

Digital Voice Recorder

I bought this recorder so that I could record lectures of my college classes that were harder. You get like 13 hours of playtime when you record on SP which is the best quality. I made a mistake and recorded on LP once and it sounded bad. I could understand it but there were times that there was too much static that I couldn't. The quality of SP though gives you plenty of recording time and it sounds as if you are in the room still. The overall recorder is small and you can plug headphones into it so you can take it on the go to listen. There isn't a USB port though so you can't plug it into the computer to transfer files but with all the recording time it makes it easier to just keep it on the recorder. I am very happy with my purchase.

I ordered this to go ghost hunting. I am new at this so did'nt want to invest alot right now. I am very pleased with this little recorder, it has files to store your recording in and numbered playback so you can go right to something you want to listen to again. I am ordering an external mic for this to get a little more clarity.

As the title implies, it is not a $300 recorder but it works wonderful for the price. No regrets

Unless I'm speaking with the recorder a few inches from my mouth, it's garbled. If you're recording yourself and are willing to have the recorder in your face, it's fine. I bought this recorder as my Dr. wants me to do some daily logs and I don't want to carry around a pen and paper all day. So, I did not need a professional type recorder.., but I did need one that would do the following:

1) Be small and compact, fit into my purse.

2) Be easy to use.

3) Playback clearly enough for me to understand.

4) Record several messages, one after the other.

5) Have an hour or more of recording space.

6) Have an option to easily delete any one or more of the messages.

7) Have the ability to listen to a message in the middle without having to hear every message before it. And also be able to play a message over without having to listen to the rest of the messages that were after it. (My voice mail does that and I hate it.)

It does everything on that list. It runs off two AAA batteries. It's so easy to figure out that I didn't even need to open the instructions to figure out how to use it.

I've used it for a few days and I don't see anything negative at this point. It has a "hold" mode so you can save the batteries. It also has a time stamp feature.

If you need to tape long lectures from someone who is far away from the device you should consider buying a more expensive type of recorder.., that's not what this type is designed for. It may work, but if the sound quality you are recording is poor or echoed, and you're using the lower quality recording mode, (for more time), you might have a hard time hearing it when you play it back.

I first purchased a Toshiba 3109 and then a Panasonic 220. Both units had typical dvd sound and picture quality and were fairly easy to use. But some of the features that I wanted were either missing or difficult to use. Also, I am very lazy, and when I had an occaisonal whim to see a portion of of a movie that was not already loaded, I usually did not bother. The Pioneer more than satisfied any disatisfaction that I had with the other players. With 300 + 1 discs available, a quick touch of the shuttle made any disc immediately available. The display menues are incredibly versatile and easy to use compared to other DVD players. And finally the picture was equal to the others, but the sound quality was MUCH, MUCH SUPERIOR. The price may be higher, but dollar for disc and overall quality and features make purchasing this Pioneer DVD a no brainer.

This is a nice changer with some interesting features, but the user interfaces is lacking.

Pros: The "Best" feature allows you to save a chapter to a last-in, first-out list. Press the "Best" button the remote to save the current chapter. When not playing, pressing "Best" plays back the chapters saved. Great for storing those awesome scenes. Pressing next chapter takes you to the next saved disk/chapter.

Digital Noise Reduction. Very nice and highly customizable for those DVD's with lousy transfers.

Single-Loader: Easy to pop in a rental DVD and play.

Cons: Size of Title/Artist fields are tiny and very difficult to fit text into.

Difficult to create play lists

Only displays title on unit display which is horrible when looking for a CD named "Greatest Hits" and you have several stored in the unit.

Over all a good unit, but comparsion shop and see if there are better user interfaces available. I have no qualms about the display or audio quality.

I purchased both the Sony DVPCX995V and the Pioneer and compared them side by side. I took the Sony back and kept the Pionneer. This was to simplify the kids life (load all their DVD's and not have to worry about finger prints, scratches etc). The menu is fast and easy and compared the Sony, this thing quickly rotates the the chosen disc. Having to constantly re-enter titles on the Sony was what did it in for me. I haven't had any issues at all with the Pioneer. Remembers all the disc titles even when I am shuffling the discs around for better organization. Well worth the money!

Pros: Quick and easy menu, remembers DVD titles, quick searching for DVD titles.

Cons: Only enter 12 characters for titles, no HDMI, or other High Def output.

I'm not going to talk about the convenience of 300 disks in one vault. That's obvious. My complaint is that complex scenes with motion, particular motion in the vertical direction, degenerate badly. It's truly embarrassing given that my kids' Playstation 2 offers better video from DVDs.

Specifically, complex textures look as if they have not been antialiased. They shimmer and stutter as they scroll past. Since this is something that will irk me every time I use the device, regrettably I'll be returning it and getting something else.

I have several DVD players and the picture quality and sound on the DV-F727 is very good. The lack of usability actually comes with loading and maintaining the disc inventory.

It is NOT STATE OF THE ART, that for the TITLE as well as for ONE ARTIST there are just 12 characters, despite the GUI interface and the mouse and keyboard. I do like this product, but it obviously never went through some USABILITY testing. I can only hope that there will be some software upgrade available. I seriously recommend the product, but be aware that the nice part the disc database is MORE THAN LIMITED.

Play and watch a DVD, hit the one touch record button and your recording your personal DVD's to the VCR. (haven't tried a rental but I am sure most are copy protected anyway) So simple to use with excellent picture and sound quality. Will also play DVD-R and DVD+R. Haven't tried CD's but wouldn't use this unit for that anyway. You can't go wrong for the money. I got the SD-V391 as a replacement for an old VCR that we used to play my son's video's. The combo is attractive and works really well. The remote is simply use. The picture quality is great and the sound is crisp. My only complaint is when you want to watch a DVD you have to remember to push the play button for the unit to recognize the DVD or re-insert the DVD even when the DVD selector switch is set to on. This can be a problem if someone else is using the DVD player who is not familiar with the unit.

Loved the easy hook-up, easy use of remote, looked nice and played fine. Purchased 11-06-03, and the DVD part stopped without warning 05-29-04. The kids never touched this one; it was all for Mommy and therefore subject to only gentle use. Now if you put a DVD in, it takes a long time to load, then comes up "ERR." And now the door makes a grinding noise when it opens. Severely disappointed, heartbroken, etc. Apparently VCRs, DVD players, and these combo units are meant to be disposable work six months and then discard. If so, we may as well disregard brand names and buy the cheapest ones available. Forget quality, reliability, and pride of workmanship those are things of the past.

I purchased the Toshiba SD-V391 based on the good experience I've had with a previous Toshiba product. My experience with the SD-V391 will make me think twice on future purchases from Toshiba. I read a handful of reviews that addressed the quality issues that this unit was having and decided to take a chance. Shame on me for taking the chance. My out-of-box experience was that the DVD drive door would not open. This was accompanied by a gear grinding noise and the display eventually showing ERR. This is a fairly big manufacturing defect. If Toshiba believes that a 50% return rate (based on user reviews) is acceptable than I'm switching brands. A responsible company would take a proactive approach and remove defective product from the shelf. Having good customer service is critical but not at the expense of quality.

As I noted on 1 or 2 other reviews, when I got the unit the DVD drawer wouldn't open. Normally that would lead me to rate the unit a 1, but the Toshiba customer service was so exceptional and the unit (once working) decent enough that I rate a 3. First, the customer service was astounding. I had to call 4 or 5 times. Every time, they answered the phone on the first ring. The person spoke clearly and well and was knowledgeable the call never had to be transferred. I was never put on hold. After they had me try a few things, they provided instructions for a return. As promised, the new unit showed up after about 7 days, and worked fine.

Combo units of this type, no matter who the manufacturer, are prone to problems, so it is critical to have that customer support.

I bought from Amazon because they were $20 cheaper than Best Buy or any other retailer. Best Buy wouldn't match the price, which surprised me it's not like Amazon is generally cheaper. However, if the price is close would recommend buying from a retailer in case you need to return it. If you read reviews for combo players in general you will find lots of problems.

So far, happy with the replaced unit. Setup was easy and the remote is easy to use, which often isn't the case.

I chose this VCR based on a review in "Consumer Reports" (December 2001 issue) and the fact that it had a cable/satellite control mouse. All cable channels are scrambled in NY City so if one wants to tape different channels consecutively when not at home, a control device is required. Unfortunately the mouse had to be ordered separately. BUT it works!

Likes:

-Easy set-up.

-Picks up the time from broadcast signal.

-The commercial pass is a nice feature.

-And, of course, the cable/satellite control mouse

Dislikes:

-No mute button on the remote.

-I don't like the fact that you have to press the TV/Video button before Menu.

-It has Index search, but with my old VCR one could search for 2+ programs back or forward. This only allows one at a time.

-I also don't like the "counter/remain". Remain is fine, but I don't understand the counter. My old VCR showed hours taped and hours remaining on the tape.

I've only had Panasonic VCRs in the past, but had to take back two bogus (poorly designed and produced) models in the past year, so I did the research and tried this unit. It's awesome, with easy, logical programming and the finest picture available from material it records itself. The EP picture is surprisingly clear and noise free, and there's no comparison between the quality video of this unit compared with the dull, lifeless and grainy recordings and playbacks of Panasonic units.

Prior to purchasing this particular VCR a couple years ago I'd only ever purchased JVC VCR's. As a matter of fact, at that time I'd been pretty heavily into JVC products but through word of mouth and some exploration at the stores, that was about to quickly change; this was but the first of several Sony electronics purchases that have all proven to be quite well made through years of enjoyable usage.

One of the most important features in a VCR is the quality of the image and sound in playback mode and I've found the playback quality on this Sony VCR to be outstanding with "near" DVD quality in image and the Hi-Fi sound is as good as can be expected from a VCR. Another extremely important aspect in a VCR is the quality of its recordings and this particular VCR records nearly flawless images, making the viewing experience of recordings that much better!

One feature that is highly important to most people is ease in programmability and it really couldn't be any easier with this VCR especially given for the automatic presetting on the clock and TV channels that is fed from your cable company. I liked this VCR until I had to get it fixed. It was a minor thing, though, so I wasn't worried. I was, though, ticked off when I was told (essentially) "Buy a new VCR!! We don't want to fix it!! It's too much of a hassle, and it just costs too much!!!" I found this odd. Especially since the VCR was (at that point) barely a couple of months old, and was under a warranty. I almost had to drag them kicking & screaming into their repair shop just to get them to do what they were supposed to. In the end, it didn't even cost me anything ... except my loyalty to their company. This sort of thing occurred anytime I went to down to Sony's repair shop. In short, it was all part of a strategy to "convince" people to ditch VCR's and go for their new (and more expensive) DVD recorders. I guess they figured that'd happen if they made it a pain in the butt for people like me just to get a simple adjustment made on a brand new VCR ... which I find totally disgusting.

This VCR was the most expensive that Sony had for sale at the time (I paid around $). Unfortunately, all the high tech stuff that I was used to seeing in their VCR's was nowhere to be found. There were two features, though, that made it stand out from the rest:

1) A wheel/knob thingy on the front that allows you to set the time & set programmed recording events without having to turn the TV on.

2) Adaptive Picture Control (APC): It allows the VCR to customize recordings to each video tape, allowing great quality.

Unfortunately, though, the 2nd feature has been taken out of Sony VCR's since then, so the picture quality isn't that great anymore. Of course, they could've come up with something else. But if they have, I haven't heard about it. And even if they did, big deal. If they're going to do everything they can not to fix your VCR, and force you to buy a new one the minute something goes wrong, what's the point in buying a Sony VCR? ok, so i recieved this unit last night, hooked it up today and was soo not impressed.. the hook up was fairly easy. the easy link was also painless. than came the volume omg! the unit that this was replacing was a philips 300 watt unit. that thing rumped, you could feel the bass and the action from a movie. this thing was soo weak when it came to bass and full volume that at a 100 fully cranked there is zero distortion, so check the specs and it says speakers combined 1000 watts and reciever output 75w?? Gotcha!!!. Im always happy with my amazon purchases, but this got returned within the hour of getting it back in the box. thanks Amazon for the painless return process and Great Customer Service.

I recently got an HDTV and wanted to get a DVD player with 'upscaling capability.' This, for those who may not know, is a process that automatically converts the pixel output [picture quality] of the DVD you're watching to the pixel count of the TV that it's connected to. This means that playing a 'regular' DVD, utilizing this player and your HDTV, will approximate a HD-DVD or Blu-Ray disc's picture quality [the ubiquitous, but seldom grasped 1080p]. I've only had it a few days, but am extremely happy with it. However, as mentioned before in a previous review, the display is a joke. Even sitting up close to it the display is almost useless. Fortunately I don't depend on the display much, but for those that do, you will be very disappointed in it. However, given what the system can do, and how well it does it, that can easily be overlooked. I've run some old movies and some concert videos through it and they all come out really great. This is one player that will not disappoint you if you're looking for an inexpensive, but feature rich DVD player.

This DVD player replaced a Toshiba model that I was not satisfied with, in that, it would freeze perfectly ok discs, and the unit became noisy during operation. I am happy with the JVC model; it has outstanding video reproduction; flawless performance, and it's totally compatible with other connected JVC equipment. One minor fault is; the display is too dim, even in total darkness. Overall an outstanding piece of equipment.

I needed an external DVD reader/writer mainly to load software onto my Acer 1410 which does not have a drive, and this Samsung drive works perfectly for me. The drive comes with Nero 8 "Essentials", which is a basic OEM suite of utilities for use with the drive. I find it neither great nor bad. If you need any of the utilities, it does the job. The drive itself does not use external power. It uses 2 USB ports. Some people claim it also works with only 1 USB port, but I have not tried it. Installing the drive couldn't be easier. I took it out of the box, plugged it into my system, and was up and running in probably a minute. The Nero software installed without issue. I loaded several programs from DVD onto my system without problems. I tried burning a couple of DVD's, and they all completed successfully and faster than expected. Although I have no intention to watch movies on my my netbook, I did pop a movie into the DVD drive, and it played without issue using Windows Media Player. I'm happy with the drive and does exactly what I bought it for.

I bought this drive to use with my new Acer 13" 3810T which doesn't have an optical drive. I rarely use one, but I needed to have one....just in case.

The drive itself is VERY small, and I don't see how they could make one any smaller. Aesthetically it looks great. It came with one cable, with an interesting design. It has two regular USB plugs, which BOTH connect to a single mini-usb plug. You plug in both USB plugs to your laptop, and plug the other end into your laptop, and you're good to go.

Obviously this would pose a problem if you only have 1 usb port on a side, because the cord is not long enough to reach around. In the manual they show a picture of using an extension usb cord to reach the other side. I haven't tried this using only one plug, because I knew ahead of time I had two side-by-side usb ports I could use. The cord itself is quite short also, so expect to have the dvd drive less than a foot away.

I used it to burn recovery disks for my Acer, but haven't done any "speed" tests, but I didn't buy it for that purpose.

It's small, light, looks nice, and doesn't need a separate power cord!

MAC users ! Don't ever hesitate to buy this wonderful inexpensive little creature ! The CD involved is only for PC users, but you don't have to worry if you already have a software program to burn CDs/DVDs like Toast Titanium etc..

Installation wasn't an issue at all, why??? Because it is a MAC !!! ;) I've just plugged the USB cables (2 of them give a better performance, not a big deal for me to use 2 USB ports on my MacbookPro) and it started working in seconds !

I can read and write CDs and DVDs perfectly. (or copy stuff from internal drive to this external drive or vice-versa at the same time.) It automatically chooses to read DVDs by using DVD player software already installed in all MACs. Briefly you do not need any single thing to achieve what you want from an external CD/DVD drive. I didn't even have to show my Toast Titanium burner software that there's is a new external drive connected. It recognized it immediately !

My intention was to be able to use both Region 1 DVDs (for US) and Region 2 DVDs (for Europe) without worrying to change the region of my actual MAC's drive. Because it was only going to allow me 2 more times (out of 5) to change the drive's region. I'm a grad student in US, but my home country is in Europe, so this solution definitely worked for me perfect. The coolest thing is of course its price ! It is really an affordable piece of creature if we think about its abilities..

One more thing, it is really so small that you can put it in your laptop bag and enjoy it everywhere you go..

I received my Samsung Super WriterMaster SE-S084C as scheduled but found it unable to install programs from DVD's I proceeded to have Amazon replace the defective unit, which only took a few days, and was happy to find the new unit worked perfectly. I understand that some problems will occur with any model, but based on what I have seen in these reviews this model has more problems that good QC should allow. Never the less, I have been please with the unit for its' small size and easy to use functionality. The same cannot be said for the included Nero 8 software. I got the unit to make installation of software easy and that is fine. When I installed the Nero* software to try to play back a DVD i got video but no sound. In researching the problem on the Nero site I found that the Nero 8 Essential OEM bundle will not play DVD sound, you only see the silent video. You need to buy their upgrade to the Nero 9 suite to get basic functionality. That is a crock. An "essential" software bundle implies basic functionality not this bait and switch "crud". The Amazon page states "Simply plug it into your USB port and you are ready to watch movies, install software, copy photos, play music, etc." That simply is not true. I decided the unit was worth keeping even without the software, so I avoided a second return to Amazon. I uninstalled the Nero 8 Suite and installed VLC open source free media player. It works just fine. The hard ware is fine and does a great job, however, I cannot recommend getting this product because of the deceptive software claims.

I bought this phone after a ... conflict with my mother (college student), so I had to pay for my own phone. I'm... cheap, so I went with this ten dollar tracfone and a 60 minute card. I got mine at walmart, and it came with a little cell phone holster, hands free set (wired), wall charger, car charger, the texting deal (each text costs just .3 minute instead of .5), double minutes for life, and ten minutes of service. I don't get great reception in my small town, but any time I go into /a/ city, I get full bars. Texting works fine, and phone calls have been comparable to my old US Cellular phone. I'm very happy with this phone, especially considering the service I've gotten for the low price I payed. Reception has been my only issue, and only in my small town.

Some features and comments:

The phone is very light.

It has a small ish screen, so more mature users may have difficulty reading some menu options.

It has a great battery It's been on and used every day for five days, and it still has 4/5 bars!

The phone's "silent" mode has a vibrate ring. This is important to me, a student.

The buttons feel durable, and the phone itself feels pretty tough.

There are only two wallpapers preloaded, so if you're one of those people...

It displays how many minutes and days of service you have left, the time, and date on the main screen.

It doesn't have volume buttons on the side of the phone.

Of course, no camera.

Pocket sized.

More mature users may have difficulty typing with small ish buttons.

I'd also like to touch on activation. For me, it was super easy. It let me speak the activation number, and after just a few questions (not personal just your zip code etc. for service quality), I was all set up. Adding minutes is very easy. You just call, it asks you to read the number, you can speak the number on the card, and you're all set!

I can't believe a phone can be this cheap and easy. If you're ok with not having a wide selection of ringtones, wallpapers, and a camera phone (middle schooler gimmicks IMHO), this is perfect. I get similar reception to Verizon and US Cellular phones in my area, and full bars in cities, and with all the little bonuses I got... I'm very happy with this phone!

Like some others here I picked up the T105 with double minutes and accessories for $10 from Walmart. I did so with some trepidation after reading some very negative reviews about Tracfone, mostly regarding customer service. But I reminded myself that those with negative experiences are more likely to post reviews and that there must be millions of satisfied customers for Tracfone to stay in business. I figured it was worth the $10, plus a $20 time card, for an initial test.

Now, more than two weeks later, everything is working fine and I am completely satisfied. I did call Customer Service to help me with my initial activation and did have trouble understanding the CSR at first. But once I had him repeat his initial statement I had little trouble understanding him after that. After taking my numbers, the CSR told me how many days and minutes to expect to appear on my phone "within an hour". Sure enough, after about 45 minutes I had the phone on and it suddenly connected to a cell tower and a few seconds later displayed exactly the number of days and minutes I had been told to expect. Can't ask for more than that.

Since then the Samsung T105 Tracfone has worked flawlessly and the battery lasts for days. I even bought an additional one year card for $75 from Amazon Marketplace (CardArt, aka Veronica Tablet) Tracfone 1 Year of Service & 400 Minutes and just entered it and a 200 minute bonus code (coupon booklet from Walmart) on the Tracfone website. Within two seconds of clicking the "submit" button my phone blurbled at me and I had an additional 365 days and 1000 minutes (400 doubled to 800, plus 200 for the bonus code). Couldn't be easier.

A year of cellphone service and 1000 minutes for $75? That's hard to beat, some people pay that per month for cellphone service. If I could get better reception in my remote rural concrete-and-steel house I'd get rid of my landline. But, in my area, I get only two bars at most when outside and consider myself fortunate to get that. I recently came back from a family visit to another remote area, Blanchard Idaho, and the other family cellphones didn't work, but my Tracfone did! Having a prepaid cellphone that uses whatever carrier is available has its advantages.

Except when traveling, my plan is to leave this phone off and carry it for emergencies. Finding a payphone is hard to do these days, so having the Tracfone with me will be helpful if I ever have a car breakdown or some such thing.

A general word on lithium batteries: the surest way to kill a lithium battery is to run it to zero. Even when off, a cellphone, camera, laptop, or similar device will still draw a small amount of power. If not planning to use a device for an extended period of time it is best to charge up the battery and then remove it. Otherwise one risks forgetting to charge the battery regularly and killing it.

Like others here have said this is a great little basic phone for the price. But I've come to discover that it has a major flaw; it pocket-dials very easily. And it doesn't just inconveniently pocket-dial one of my contacts, it dials the local emergency dispatcher. I've had the phone for a week and it's done this three times already. Somehow the keypad manages to unlock itself and the 0 key gets pressed which somehow connects me to 911. I'm now afraid to carry it in my pocket if it's not turned all the way off.

I bought this phone at Walmart, like others have. I got it coming off three years with AT&T on an iPhone! That's right, I moved from an iPhone to this little puppy...LOL. When my iPhone 3GS quit working and was no longer able to be revived, despite my best efforts, I needed a phone to get me through, until I decided what to do. I REALLY hate contracts, and as much as I wanted a nice shiny new iPhone 4S, there was no way I was going to (1) go on another two year contract, or (2) pay the high premium for buying it off contract. So this was a a temporary fix, but after using it a few days, I decided that I am sticking with this phone for a while! :)

The purchase included all the needed accessories...wall charger, car charger, wired hands free (will never be used) set, and cell phone case, which I have yet to use either. Also came with double minutes for life, which is really what sold me. I am not a huge cell talker, and mostly used my iPhone for data, so when I actually figured out the amount of money I was paying AT&T for a per minute charge, it was more than DOUBLE what I would pay with TracFone. I stand to save almost $1000 a year by using this baby!

I love the size and weight of this phone. It is so incredibly light, especially when you consider what I was carrying. And I am not all concerned about losing it, scratching it, breaking it, etc. I mean its about one of the cheapest phones out there. If that happens I will just replace it. Not problem at all. Not like replacing a smart phone. I don't even use the case, I just toss it in my pocket or purse and go. Sometimes I even forget its in my pocket, its so light.

Turning the phone to silent mode is simple, as is locking the keypad (I noticed another review complaining about pocket dialing, but locking the keypad is just a push of a button and it won't do that anymore).

Now, for my data fix, I am using a Virgin Mobile MiFi with 1GB data plan for $20. It works perfectly with my brand new iPod Touch, which takes the place of my iPhone data center now, as well as pairs with my iPad, if I happen to need it when out and about. Between this dumb phone, my MiFi, and my iPod, I essentially have an iPhone at a HUGE yearly savings! All three devices together actually even weigh less than my old iPhone 3GS! And each does what they are designed to do extremely well. :)

My only major complaint is the lack of a 3.5mm headphone jack and bluetooth on this phone. Now bluetooth technology I can understand not being included, at this price point, but the manufacturer should have given it a standard 3.5mm jack, as opposed to the funky jack it has now. Oh, well. I can live with it for the price of the phone, for sure. ;)

Now I feel better knowing that I am paying for only the minutes I am using to talk and the minutes I am using for data from VM. Before I had huge AT&T bills and never came anywhere near using the minutes I was paying for.

I own 3 DVD players. A Toshiba SD-3109, a Pioneer DV-434 and this JVC XV-D723GD. This is by far the most functional DVD I've ever own. I agree with all the words spoken of by the Editor's Review. I can add a little more input by saying that I have the JVC XV-D723GD on my 1999 model Elite (Pioneer) 65" Widescreen High Definition TV. The JVC DVD player replaced my Toshiba.

The audio is better than the Toshiba. I am a audiophile however, my wife and mother are not who also noticed a difference as they mentioned it first to me before I commented on it. I liked the five analog connections for the audio in the back and the player translated the audio with theater like fidelity. I have a 5 speaker setup (2 front, 2 rear, 1 center) but no subwoofer attached to a pretty decent Onkyo Receiver you can find today for around $.... My Toshiba wasn't bad with the audio setup, but I had to disperse the sound in all five speaker to get the clarity I wanted in contrast with a true 5 speaker setup. On the JVC, I just needed to set the speakers in the menu in expert mode (easier than you think and explained in the manual) and the focus of the Center speaker meshing with the front & rear speakers became as good as if I was sitting in a new AMC Theater. One thing I did not like is that if I put in a pair of head phones to my receiver, the player didn't adjust to "headphones" but stayed on a 5 speaker setup. This made voices and sound to distant and indiscernible. I had to stop the DVD, go to setup and change audio to 2 speakers, then restart with scene selection on the DVD movie.

The Video quality are the best colors I've seen on DVD. In fact, with "progressive scan" on (you must use the three Composite Video Cables *not* provided in the retail box on a Widescreen TV to get "progressive scan"), the picture got rid of all the "jaggies" (round shapes that are not smooth looking on the screen). For instance, the movie Mulan shows many "jaggies" clearly seen on many of the characters shoulders and heads when "progressive scan" is not used. The JVC XV-D723GD removed these to be not visible nearly all the time. The fidelity is so clear, it took me several hours to get used to the blacks or shaded scene shots. It took the clarity of this JVC DVD player to notice that some movies are more gray scaled in black. Mulan for instanced is much more shaded in it's blacks than Tarzan (Disney). I thought it was foggy at first, but it became apparent that it only had this affect on me on the more faded black and shaded movies. A good contrast on this point for me to tests this was with the movie "X men" (excellent brilliant blacks and shades) and the movie "Finding Forrester" (very gray scaled blacks and shades). After putting in over 20 different types of DVDs it became apparent that it pick up the Blacks "more true" than the Toshiba did. The only drawback I have not like on the JVC XV-D723GD is that the player takes over my Elite Widescreen TV. After setting the control of the DVD menu to see a "16X9 auto" display, it would play a "standard format" or 1:33 to only show up in "Full" mode on my TV. For those without experience with a 16X9 TV, this means people and objects on the screen become a little oval due to the wider screen. We remedy this by changing the TV mode to "Natural Wide" however the DVD would lock me out from doing this task on my Widescreen TV. I simply set the DVD control panel to see a 16X9 normal (or fixed) Display and the standard format or 1:33 DVD movies would play with black bars on both horizontal sides instead of top and bottom. No biggie to me on a 65" widescreen, but it may bother some for various reasons which is why I am pointed it out.

The remote is very well thought out in "terminology", colors and grip, however, it is small. On my Toshiba DVD, the buttons were far enough apart with infrequent buttons hidden in a slider compartment. This meant that in a dark room, I could just grab the controller and easily learned to feel my way to the "pause", "enter", "play", "next" "menu" or "stop" buttons. The remote on the JVC player is not like that at all. I don't believe I can master this remote in the dark, but will have to turn on the lights most times when trying those task. On a good note, the "round speed dial" is big enough to grab the remote quickly in order to back track (for those, "what did he say moments" in a movie) simply by turning the dial. This feature will act like a VCR's forward or backtrack.

OK then, to rap up, everything worked for me out of the box and I am thoroughly delighted with this product. I can live with the minor flaws that are happening with my personal home audio/video system as they really don't get in my way enough to bring much frustration to me.

I purchased Bela Fleck's 'Planet" DVD-audio and was impressed with the spatial depth and breadth of the recording. nice player for about 3 months then dvd's stopped playing. player was under parts warranty but just out of labor so brand new laser cost me (for) labor and the part (...) was jvc's responsibility. they've had it now for 2 weeks, and no sign of getting it back soon. their customer support is terrible. i've been transferred and referred to 3 different locations, all of which knew absolutely nothing about the problem. i finally got to a customer service representative manager who is supposedly rushing the player through service. my daughter is about to have a cow since she can't watch her shrek dvd . . .

i have no idea about other companies (sony, panasonic, toshiba, etc.) customer support, but i should've waited until outlaw audio releases their dvd player (the best customer service in the business!)

While it worked, the player output a decent picture. However, it didn't take long for the unit to fail. It now plays movies for about 30 minutes before it begins to pixellate and finally freeze up. After cooling down, the unit can again play for about 30 minutes. It's pretty useless now and the warranty has expired.

I have been a life-long customer of JVC (camcorders, stereos, etc.)... I'll never buy one of their DVD products again. They have produced a golden piece of junk here.

Had one when the DVD-A craze hit in 2000; brand new and defective on some soundtracks. Too new to fix so they replaced it. Got the hint and sold it right away. These are terrible players and should be avoided like the plague!

VideoSecu Mini Security CCTV DVR Recorder Motion Detection Overwrite Schedule Videos with Audio Recording 3UA The camera that came with this combination is part number IR31A. The camera is a weatherproof audio/color/IR 420 TVL 1/3 Sony CCD camera with a 3.6 mm lens. It is well built with an adjustable sun screen except for the mount and the way it attached to the body of the camera. The steel part that attached to the camera body with 2 small screws was loose upon arrival. These screws may be threaded into the aluminum body. They were tightened with extreme caution as not to strip the threads in the camera body. They could also have steel inserts in the body, I did not check. The mount relied on pressure on two round balls trapped between two metal strips. When tightened and in place the camera could still be moved. It may work OK only time will tell. The camera images are what you would expect for a 420 TVL camera. The color images were detailed and clear while the IR images were OK and what would be expected at a distance of 25 feet from the camera. The audio was not used. The combination with the DVR work great. Performance get a 5 star, construction of the camera/mount gets a 4 star.

I ordered a couple of these, but Amazon was unable to deliver them in a timely manner. I got the SVAT CVW62 version instead, which are white instead of black. Electrically they are the equivalent cable. The CVW62 cables are working great with a Defender SENTINEL1 system.
