It was a shame that I had to return this player, I really liked it, but it had a glitch playing DVDs with seamless branching. The playback stuttered with 2 different copies of Terminator 2: UE and The Abyss: SE.

I first discovered the problem when trying to watch T2. When I called Toshiba customer service, they first insisted it was the disc, even though I told them it played fine in my other 5 year old *Toshiba* player, and my XBox. They asked if I could try a different copy of T2:UE, so I tried my father-in-law's copy of T2:UE, and it too stuttered. Then I realized these movies use seamless branching, so I tried the Abyss, and it also stuttered on playback, even froze at some points.

After reporting all this to Toshiba when I called them back, all they did was take my info and said they'd get back to me. 2 weeks later, and I still haven't heard from them. Since they didn't make me feel comfortable about getting the problem fixed under warranty, I'm glad I went ahead and just returned the player right before my 30 day return period ended.

So, this cable transmits the signal thru fiber-optics. The gold-plating has absolutely no bearing on the sound quality. You can get the same sound quality from another toslink cable for much less. However, you are getting 30' of cable, so that's pretty good.

Of course, the gold-plated connectors protect against "corrosion" just about as well as a plastic connector does.

Unless you spend an inordinate amount of time behind your stereo instead of in front of it, and enjoy being reminded how much you overpaid for pretty connectors, don't bother with this unless you just need a long cable.

Purchased the item. Great service from Amazon and it arrived quickly. Product is absolute junk and a waist of money as it will not record with consistency. Perhaps I got a lemon. It will only record between 11 17 seconds, and then stops recording....totally frustrating!!!!!

The advertisement was to good to be true, so don't be fooled by the items advertisement as it does not work. Directions are complete crap and very vague! Went to review the 11 17 second clips that it did record, but could only see 5 seconds of the recording before getting an error message. Used and 8 gig mini HCSD, so size should not be the issue. Very disappointed with the product.

I took a chance and purchase this item. It was worth it. I am using a 32GB Micro SD card have it set to record @ 5 minutes intervals.

I am very please with this item. I would not recommend for night use due to the fact that the LED light are very bright and would be an distraction to un-coming traffic.

Other than that the quality is not HD but you can't get anything with a better price budget.

I concur with the previous review that camera will stop recording in 15 seconds to 4 minutes depending on Loop setting if the camera sees no motion (this is a separate issue from Motion Detection setting). I spent many hours of trial and error to get around this bug and could not do it. No documentation on Motion Detection and Gsensor setup options. Another example was Loop recording options were 1,2,3 minutes not 5,10,15 minutes as stated in the poorly written manual. I had version 1.00 of the firmware (2012/11/13). Camera has potential; the image quality was good for a $55 camera at all the selectable resolutions. I bet version 2.00 will work. Returned it.

I have been into DVDs for about six years now, so I have spent a LOT of time watching them. I started out on an old full frame tv and now have a 30" widescreen HDTV (1080i resolution). I plugged this player in with an HDMI cable (available here on Amazon far more cheaply than in your local store). So that's my perspective, now onto the review...

This player is the first multi-disk changer I am aware of capable of HDMI upconversion. At least at this price. I can also confirm that it is capable of playing vcds, which is often a hit or miss proposition since the format is so uncommon in the US.

As someone who watches a lot of tv shows on dvd and multidisk editions of movies, being able to load multiple disks at once is desireable for obvious reasons. I did find the interface for changing disks to be somewhat confusing at first, but once you figure it out you can change disks fairly quickly. But be advised that all the extra disks make this player fairly large. Much larger even than my first dvd player, let alone the miniature ones they make today.

The HDMI upconversion is the real holy grail here. Most people who own HDTVs do not actually subscribe to HD channels. I do subscribe to the HD pack and premium movie channels through my cable service, so I know what 'HD' tv shows and movies are supposed to look like.

And here's the verdict: This player makes DVDs look just as good as HD broadcasts. Maybe a bigger tv than I have can tell some difference, but for comparison purposes I decided to take the most digitally packed movie I could think of (Star Wars: The Phantom Menace) and watched the pod-racing scene. I know, bear with me for a minute. This scene has thousands of small moving objects in the audience and lots of detail all around. The picture looked beautiful. It was as good as I have ever seen pod racing look, and as good as anything I've scene on an HD movie channel.

How does HDMI upconversion compare to the new 'High Def' dvd formats? Well, consider this...The next generation dvd players offer two advantages over current gen dvd players: 1) HDMI upconversion to a higher resolution and 2) Higher disk capacity for larger files. Now consider that every movie you have ever seen has already been fit onto just one or two current gen DVDs just fine. Once you 'upconvert' those DVDs to the higher resolution of this player (1080i or 720p), then you will get a picture that's basically the same thing as the next gen players. The next gen players will be able to support 1080p resolution, but there are very few televisions on the market right now to use with it. Most HDTVs, except for a handful of the most expensive models, only support 1080i or 720p.

So for now, there really just isn't anything better on the market than this player. And for the current generation of players, I don't expect there ever will be anything better.

*UPDATE*

SA-CD users take note: Amazon has a misleading statement in the title. This is NOT an SA-CD player. Apparently a number of people are buying this player primarily to play SA-CDs. So be warned that Amazon's title is just plain wrong. I haven't found any other errors in the title or product description, but there is no SA-CD capability of any kind.

On that note, another music related issue is that when playing music cds it only shuffles tracks on one disk...not all five, as some might expect.

The picture this player displays on my new 72" Toshiba DLP set is truly "near HD" via the HDMI output.

I was so glad Sony finally came out with a 5 disc changer with HDMI output. When I got my new TV, I hooked up my cheap Toshiba progressive scan DVD player from the bedroom via component video, instead of my non-progressive scan 5 disc Pioneer changer I had with the old TV. I did this to maximize PQ on my new TV, willing to sacrifice the convenience of a changer, and not willing to buy another DVD player to get HDMI upconversion without multi-disc capability, and Sony's mega changer would have been overkill for me.

I was a little disappointed at how DVDs looked with this initial setup. The picture was dull with noticeable mpeg artifacts. Not so with this player. Picture is crisp and sharp, and depending on the DVD itself, hardly any noticeable mpeg artifacts. Good quality DVDs like Star Wars, King Kong (2005), and Terminator 2 rival the HD movies I record with my cable co.'s DVR. I'm no videophile, but am finicky on picture quality, and this player truly makes a difference on my HD TV. With the idiocy of the 2 competing HD DVD formats, I won't be upgrading to HD DVD for a long time with this upconverting player.

I even believe this player is outputting 1080P to my TV! Per the manual, the progressive button on the front panel lights up when outputting a progressive signal. I have the player set to 1080i, and my TV confirms it's receiving a 1080 "i" signal from the HDMI port, but this light is on during DVD playback...hmm. Since my TV is native 1080P DLP display, maybe over the HDMI connection, the TV and player negotiate a progressive signal vs. interlaced??

Other good points, plays about any kind of recordable DVD, such as my home movies, and is a good small size to easily fit in my A/V center. Cons, the build quality of the disc carousel feels a little cheap. The trays holding discs don't feel deep enough, making me paranoid that I'll jam a disc not placed perfectly in the individual tray. The remote also feels a little cheesey, the buttons are small, and doesn't have a backlight. Small imperfections preventing me from giving this player 5 stars. But for the money (under $150!), it's a steal if you want a really good DVD player for your new HDTV.

I wasn't crazy about getting a five disc playerI preferred a quality single player, however, none were available in black offered by Sony with the features I wanted.

So I purchased the SONY DVP-NC85H a few month's ago at list price, (something I usually never do) $150. plus tax & shipping, simply because of the reviews I read.

The player is amazing, in that it NEVER skips, it plays every format out there. The picture is excellent and the player also offers HDMI, (no wire is included though) for televisions offering the same.

I even enjoy the five disc changer, as I put in multiple disc more often than I thought I ever would. And the changer preforms well and of course one can exchange DVD's in the player while another one is playing.

The player offers a nice memory of where you left off (or stopped) playing each discs and asks if you want to begin from where you left off or start from the beginning.

The on screen menu is very good.

Now the cons: The Sony SONY DVP-NC85H is the slowest opening player ever. And turning it on from the player itself it reads a silly "welcome" display when you simply just want it to OPEN! The speed changing disc in the player is only fair.

The player doesn't offer SACD, so I kept my Sony NS75V DVD player exclusively for SACD.

The remote is adequate exactly like the NS75V remote, except it doesn't have the capacity to control A/V amps or receivers as the NS75V does and the button's on the DVP-NC85H take a little getting used to.

The DVP-NC85H display is a bit dull, but again, adequate.

The players controls are basic & minimal and not easily read.

But all the cons are relatively small compared to the DVP-NC85H performance, which is fabulous (besides how slow it opens) and what one really buy's the player for, QUALITY!

You can always buy a $39. dollar player at CostCo...However, when you buy the DVP-NC85H you'll see why it's worth the bucks.

I love it! But man is it slow opening up.

Although I have been pleased with the quality of the audio and video from this unit, it has a couple of quirks that some readers may find useful in making a choice. I purchased this unit last year and specifically wanted a disc changer to accomodate the fact that I was mostly playing DVDs of some classic TV shows, plus an occasional music CD. It's great to leave a disc full of TV episodes in the changer until you're ready to move on to the next disc. You can switch immediately from an episode of Columbo to one of the Wild Wild West for example.

The three quirks that I am uncomfortable with however: playing a music CD. The sound is not a problem. It is that the player, once finished with your music CD does not stop, it goes immediately to the next disc, whatever that is. The only way to stop this is pushing the button that opens the tray, the STOP button has no effect unless you remember to press it within seconds of the end of the CD. If you have been reading or not paying close attention, then you have to hit the button to open the tray. I just don't think this is a very convenient option. There is one alternative, you can program the CD. Then it will go back and begin playing the CD from the beginning. But programming on this model is a bit cumbersome. This is not to say that playing DVDs are any problem. Most DVDs are programmed to stop after an episode or chapter or at the end. Not so with CDs though.

My second gripe is the direction of the platter. It is not so much which direction it turns, but it just seems that once you get the tray to open, the disc you want to remove has gone past in a clock-wise motion. So you have to click 4 times to get it back. It just always seems to be in that direction. Sony could have programmed it so that the second most recent disc could be retrieved with just one rotation of the tray. Also, this player could easily have been engineered to allow for the access to two discs at once, when the tray is open, rather than 1 full disc plus the halves of two others that it currently allows.

Finally, Sony did not design the remote to easily select a disc. You have your discs loaded in the player and go sit down. But you forgot to press the disc number button on the unit. There is no one-touch way now for you to select the disc to play. You have to go through the display menu, and it is pretty simple, but it still would have been more convenient for the remote control to have had immediate disk play buttons on it.

I also bought this unit to be a replacement for my old slide projector. Now that all of my new pictures are digital, and more and more of my old color slides have been scanned, the JPEG display is nice. Unfortunately, I do not have a quality monitor to truly say whether this unit is doing the job I wanted in that regard. Although it does recognize and display JPEG images as claimed.

I would give this unit 5 stars for DVD play quality, but take away two of them over usability issues. I have owned it for six months now and have not had a hardware problems. If the issues I mentioned do not affect your planned use of this player, then feel free to consider this to be a 5 star review.

I just got this DVD player and hooked it up to my 48' JVC digital TV. I must say the picture is very crisp and clean. I liked the option of having optical or coaxial hook up. I prefer optical myself, light travels faster than hooking up the coaxial connection, but each their own. It has been a while since I had a 5disc changer. I would say back in the early 90. I remember it was very cool to load 5 discs at a time to play (then) only CDs. I do have to agree with one reviewer about the shuffle mode on this player. I would like to see it shuffle ALL discs in the player not just one at a time. However I am not really using the player for playing music. I have a computer for that. Last week I had purchased the Samsung hd755. According to Amazon it is not available to buy yet. I got it at Fry's Elect. I did not like a great deal of things about that unit. As soon Amazon opens the review section to review that item I will do so. Back to this unit, I took the Samsung back to the store to get this unit. I must say that between the two there really is no comparison. The picture is must smoother and cleaner. I like the way you can FF or RW the move in TWO different buttons. Scanning the movie in a few different modes really makes it worth while when you are searching for a scene for example. It is very smooth and I have very few players that do this type of function so effortlessly. Also, I agree with yet another reviewer about it starting up a disc slowly. I suppose in this day and age one can get spoiled to wanting a machine's response as quickly as snapping of the fingers. Sony has been around for quite a long time and I am sure I am getting a high quality player. Everything they put out tends to be of great quality with the exception of their cordless phones. That is another story. All and all I feel I am going to be happy with my investment and I am sure you will too.

ContourHD 1080p Helmet Camera

Update 9-16-2010 This is no longer their top of the line cam the new one is based on this camera but includes a GPS and tags your images with location. You'll need their viewer to see the map movement as the video plays.

Tonights episode of Dirty Jobs showed this camera strapped to a head strap for the host, Mike Rowe, who was 408 feet above the cement floor decending & window cleaning in Hawaii. Troy chickened out on the first 100 feet so alot of the contour HD footage made it into the show. By the 300 foot balcony they got troy on the ropes but his hair got snagged in the safely line and had to get his second "shearing" on Dirty Jobs it was also filmed on contour HD cams 300' above hawaii. The quality was as good as the cable company could deliver in their 6:1 re-compression of HD. A full HD viewfinderless camera has value when you must get the shot.

using a sandisk 16GB microSD card and the maximum detail [1080P] + best quality I could get 3 hr, 6 minutes of video recorded with battery leftover. If you use the lower resolution setting the battery may be the limiting factor I have not tried that yet.

I bought this to produce a bluray disc of a police helicopter team, using a gyro stabilized canon professional camera in back and wanting a 2nd angle up front. This comes with an adhesive patch that sticks to the side of the pilot's helmet to give a 135 degree wide field of view. The integrated rails on both sides permit the ultimate flexibility in mounting the camera, and second options for this cam are car mounts, etc.

The quality is GREAT. The lens is the downfall there is some pincushion effect due to the inexpensive lens and wide angle. I'll deal with it for the price and the shots you can get with it, plus I can trim out the distortion in post editing.

One note the output is .mov which is fine for macs, but for pc's you will need to transcode if you run premiere pro cs4 from adobe as it does not import .mov natively. Perhaps that is a good time to clip the edges where the bent picture is most noticable.

Another factor to like is the simplicity. With gloved hands you slide the top forward to record and back to stop, with a beep to start and and double beep to stop it's very hard to mess up except for your horizon, which is why there are detents and lasers.

Detents and lasers?

Yes, there are detents in the event you mount it on the right and left hand side of a helmet or rotate it in a mount. The 2 lasers can be turned on to tell you what is level with resepect to the imager. This is helpful when you rotate it but you must manually keep track of the bottom of the screen (below the laser points ) as you rotate it, otherwise your output will be upside down.

For the price, you simply can not beat it. Buy a 16 GB sandisk micro-sd card to go with it Sandisk 16GB Microsd Card Note that they have a low packaging option which the card is inside a plastic carrier and inside an ESD bag but no box or other trash with it that goes in the landfill smart packaging.

One of the other great applications for this is taking HD video where you otherwise would NOT take your $3K camera the beach the water park etc. You won't get the absolute best quality but you will get 1080 p hd that is playable on macs or pcs in native players!

Another great use is for children. It's easy to use, inexpensive, and highdef. For the kids who are beyond the toy grade cameras but not ready for a professional unit, this fills the gap. Adults will love its simplicity. On or Off no fancy buttons to press, and everything complex is set while attached to the computer.

Finally there is my use have a 2nd angle view for use with NLE systems. You can now do a/b video fades by time syncing the output from this camera with your primary cam. Be sure to expose something that will sync the two that gets recorded on both at the start of shootng.

I'm only deducting a star becuase of the pincushion effect of the lens. I realize for this price you are not getting an HD lens, and I realize that HD will show any defects, but a few more dollars in the lens would have made this 5 stars it is oh so close. Be sure to pick up extra memory and batteries if you plan to use it at maximum definition because it makes some big files fast.

I bought this camera primarily to be used for motorsports (autocross, track days, time attack, etc.) but took it on my recent ski trip to Breckenridge, Colorado. I'll update the review once motorsport season comes around.

With the GoPro HD and ContourHD 1080p coming out around he same time for the same price point I did a lot of research on both. I was already biased against the GoPro having owned the original Hero Cam Wide.

Mounting

The quick sliding of the GoPro is pretty simple, but the parts that you have to screw and unscrew are difficult. The screws were hard to tighten and it's too easy to lose the screw and/or nut. I also managed to break one of the mounts by dropping it a bit too easy to break in my opinion. Getting the correct angle by stringing the screw mounts together was a challenge as well.

I like the ContourHD mount a lot more. It just slides on and off and locks into place. While skiing, I was able to slide it off and hand it to my friend so he could take video of me. Using the included goggle mount, the video was pretty steady as long as my ski goggles were on snug. Never worried about it sliding off.

If I were to have gone with the GoPro, I would have to get a ski helmet. It would not be as easy to switch and I feel it looks and feels obtrusive if sticking out to the side, top, or front. The ContourHD, when goggle mounted, sits slimly along my head not far out so that it feels like an antler. And since the goggle mount sits flush, I always know that what I am looking at (or at least slightly to the left or right) will be what is filmed. This would not be true of a camera that is chest-strap mounted or sticking farther out to the side.

Pointing the camera up/down was difficult at first but became easy to work with.

Viewing angle

I found the GoPro to be too wide. I love having a wide angle lens for point of view sports video, but the GoPro Hero Cam Wide just seemed so wide that it would be distorted (to reiterate, I have not tried the GoPro HD). The ContourHD was wide enough to have a large field of vision, but not so wide that things looked distorted. I've also tried the Kodak Zi8 camera which I feel has a great viewing angle for youtube type videos but not great for POV sports videos.

Video quality

I was really impressed with the quality. Everything was really smooth with no artifacts. Any higher video quality and I don't think they could have kept this price point. It does have a rolling shutter, so I would occasionally get the jello effect if constantly over uneven snow. But I believe this is true of most cameras in this segment. The only cameras that won't do this, as far as I know, are some point and shoot cameras or camcorders which usually don't offer the same helmet cam functionality.

The colors and lighting seemed okay. Hard to tell as I was skiing and everything is white, but nothing seemed "off". I went night skiing in Keystone Colorado and the video didn't turn out that great there. I doubt any camera would be different though given the poor lighting conditions.

Audio quality

Not great. All I heard on my skiing videos was wind noise. I don't see any other way around this though and I don't think the competition does either. I'm just going to add music. When I'm still and talking though, the audio comes out clear.

Operation

The thing I like the most is how simple it is to use. Hold down the power button to turn it on/off and slide the switch forward to record. The display on my GoPro wasn't useful and I was never really sure it was recording. When helmet-mounted, you can still feel the switch on the ContourHD is moved forward. Also, when it's on, the slider reveals a big red sticker that says "REC" in big letters. With the GoPro, you have to look at the tiny display which can be really difficult to do when the camera is strapped to your head and you have all your gear on. And while the slider switch on the ContourHD can be difficult to turn on with heavy winter gloves on, it is near impossible to press the GoPro's tiny buttons.

I also really liked the beeping system. 1 beep lets you know when the camera is turned on or recording. 2 beeps lets you know when the camera is off or stopped recording. This is really useful when helmet mounted since you can't see the camera and it's usually close to your ear. This beep system helped as well when my battery died or the camera automatically shut off due to inactivity. I forgot to turn it off once and I heard 2 beeps while on the chair lift. Even though I skipped this in the manual, I knew that it turned off by itself.

The camera allows you to switch between 2 modes. I chose 1080p @ 30fps and 720p @ 60fps. It would be nice to switch between all modes without having to preset them in the computer, but realistically, I usually won't need more than 1 mode in a given day.

The on off button is small, and since I'm constantly worried about running out of battery, I always turn off the camera when not recording. Maybe they could just make this one button (anytime it's on, it's recording and anytime it's off, it's not recording)? It also takes some time holding it down to turn on/off. 1 or 2 seconds less would be adequate.

There is no display on the camera or a viewfinder. Again, displays aren't really as useful as tactile buttons when mounted to your head. Other POV cameras don't have a display either for simplicity. Camcorders, flip cameras, and the Kodak Zi8 have displays but they aren't meant for the same type of things the ContourHD is. The lasers to orient viewing angle are a great compromise. And I like that you can rotate the lens. I can see this being useful if you need to mount the camera sideways or upside down.

Construction

The ContourHD feels very sturdy (anodized aluminum). It's water-resistant(not waterproof) and still worked even when I fell in the snow. The GoPro does have the added benefit of the waterproof case not only in terms of water damage but impact damage as well. I'd hate to drop my ContourHD on concrete or scratch the lens with a flying rock. If this is an issue for you, consider the new, somewhat pricey, waterproof case. For my uses though, this is not a deal breaker.

The mounting mechanism seems sturdy as well and the plastic mounts feel high quality. Again, I was able to break a GoPro mount.

The ContourHD isn't shaped like a traditional camera like the GoPro is and I feel this is more condusive to helmet mounting and POV sports videos.

The record switch provides good resistance, but I accidentally opened the back cover of the camera when I switched it on. The camera was still safe though.

The Hi/Lo switch, On/Off switch, battery door cover, and microSD slot are all behind the back cover. The back cover is easy to open and is tethered. The tab holding the battery in seems flimsy, but really isn't.

The camera is light enough that it wasn't too noticeable when goggle-strap mounted.

Battery

The included battery lasts a fair amount of time, but depending on what you do, consider picking up a second battery. I didn't time the battery usage, but I left the house with a fully charged battery and was able to finish an almost full day of skiing without it loosing charge. Keep in mind that I would turn off the camera when not in use. Also consider the cold temperature in which I was using it (25 35 degrees).

Personaly, I prefer proprietary batteries to AA's and such because they seem to last longer and are easily rechargeable in the camera. I had problems with the GoPro Hero Cam Wide's batteries. The camera seemed to turn off after a while if it didn't have the right battery. The GoPro HD has a proprietary battery now.

The camera does a good job of turning itself off when it is not in use. I forgot to turn it off and after several minutes of not recording, it turned itself off and gave me 2 beeps to let me know it did so. The camera also gave me several beeps when it turned off due to the battery being drained. I was able to switch to my back up battery with little interuption to what I was doing.

Memory

I bought a 16GB microSD card so that I can take many hours of high quality video. I would have prefered regular SD since I already have several of those cards, but I'm sure this contributes to the ContourHD's small size.

Computer interface

I didn't use this too much. I like to transfer my video's on my own. On trips, I just back up the video's on my netbook which doesn't really have the processing power to edit such high quality videos. The interface seems nice though and I was able to switch settings easily with my netbook. I would have preferred to switch some of the settings on the camera without a computer, but I think this would overcomplicate it.

Overall

I'm really happy with my purchase. It made skiing with my buddies a bit more fun. I would ski with the goggle mount and we would stick together. If I saw a jump or terrain park coming up, I would watch my friends and get the action on video just by looking at them! I've taken video of them before with my point-and-shoot camera but that's harder to do when not mounted.

First person view without anyone else around is good for my own memories, but not really exciting enough to share. Small jumps don't really look like jumps. I don't do the terrain park but I'd imagine grinding rails or big jumps would look amazing in first person.

The quality is great. All my friends were impressed. I really didn't worry about operating it or having enough memory or battery. I was worried about shaky video at first or dropping it in the snow, but after my 1st (of 4) days skiing with it, I stopped worrying. I had a fall on my second day and not only did the camera survive, but it made for a pretty funny POV video.

I'm really looking forward to using this for motorsports. It should be easy to switch angles on my car (front view, wheel view, rear view, etc.) given the simplicity of the mounts. And I won't ever have to worry if it recorded like I did with my GoPro or other cameras I used with a traditional on/off button.

This is a video of a couple of laps around the John Rose Oval shot at 10 PM under artificial lighting. I thought that the images were good with expected wide angle distortion.

I purchased this camera to record my speed skating at the John Rose Oval in Roseville, Minnesota. Most of my skating sessions are from 9:20 to 10:25 PM. The lighting is similar to a baseball or football field. I had some concerns about reviews that said that this camera was not that good in low light conditions but the images looked good to me.

In terms of ease of use, I don't think you can really beat this camera. The instruction manual is microscopic and you are up to speed on the available controls within a very short period of time. One of the frequent criticisms of the camera is wind noise coming through in the video. It turns out that you can preset the sound level with the software that comes with the camera as a download off the MicroSD card.

I had the most trouble figuring out the mounting system because it was not obvious that it was stuck together with velcro and I did not know how much pressure to exert to pull it apart. I also did not have any goggles that seemed to work, but used an old belt that I cut down and strapped outside of my cap.

After shooting the first video, the playback on the editing software did not go as smoothly as using other software that I had on my computer. The downloads to Facebook and YouTube went very well.

All things considered this is a high value camera that produces quality video. In my case I am using it at night in cold weather and it performs flawlessly.

Great camera for the money. Have used the camera a few times on my 06 cbr 600rr and the video couldn't be clearer or smoother. The product seems very durable as i've already dropped it once onto the pavement and no damage only a small scratch on body. I was worried that the mount might fall off at high speeds on the highway but not the case at allvery secure on my helmet. Easy to start recording and stop recording. High upload speed on my macbook probut when I was trying to upload on my friends much slower dellthe computer just could not handle the high quality video and the video came out REALLY choppyunwatchable even. So make sure you have a computer that can handle 1080 videos. Also the program they include to upload and edit the videos(I believe it's called easy edit) is completely useless when editing 1080 videos as the video plays VERY choppy and VERY grainy when using the software I use imovie and it works very well. One complaint about the camera which im sure everyone knows about is the wind noise. Anything above 35 mph and you get lots of wind noise. I put some tape over the mic hole and it helped a little but still WAY too much windnoise. I'm gonna try to put one of those foam things that go over earbud headphones over the mic hole and see if that does anyything. They need to have the option of an external mic. But, other than the wind noise which affects ALL similar camera's this is definetly a great helmet cam.

I have been shooting first person action videos ever since I got my hands on my first sony handycam video 8 back in the 90's. Fast forward 15 years and numerous video cameras later, I bought a compact Vholdr Contour 1080p after testing and comparing all wearable HD video cameras presently available at our local stores here in Southern Calironia. The need was brought from the fact that I had to get rid of my habit of using my bulky, yet trusty, Nikon D90 DSLR when both photos and HD videos when I go snowboardng, longboarding and mountain biking hehehe... :p

Pros:

Fluid HD Video on 720p at 60 frames per second is the main feature that I love about this product. 1080p at 30 frames per second is just an extra bonus / icing on the cake for me.

Lens view angle is perfect. Wide and not annoyingly distorted compared to the GoPro.

Easy, simple & practical controls on board the camera

Size, weight, design & build are of the best materials and make given its price.

Mounting accessories are solid and secure.

Cons:

Sound quality is mediocre. I dub in a soundtrack on all my action videos anyway.

It would be nice if it was an on board adjustable feature.

Kit does not come with a protective case/pouch for storage.

RCA EZ209HD Small Wonder HD Camcorder (Black)

I bought this RCA camcorder two weeks ago and am generally pleased with it. I chose it over the popular and highly rated Flip and Vado camcorders because the RCA also takes still photos. It doesn't hurt that it is also costs less. I've taken some very nice HD videos and beautiful stills with it. I've also taken some not so great videos and photos with it, generally due to inadequate lighting or shooting into the sun. This camcorder, and probably any pocket camcorder, is best used in good light. That doesn't mean you need to shoot outside in bright sun, but that helps. Good indoor lighting works too. As the light decreases the video will soon get grainy and that becomes very obvious on an HD TV. But in low light all is not lost. I took some low light video (one lamp on in my living room) using the low resolution WebQ mode that looked pretty decent on my computer. The digital zoom is okay but, as with any digital zoom, you lose resolution with it so it is best used sparingly. The sound is generally good but sometimes seems to be kind of low when played on my computer. But that is not really the camera because I have converted videos to a format that can play on my Linux laptop (DivX video codec and MP3 audio codec) and the sound comes out much louder. (I didn't do anything to intentionally boost the audio.) The audio also comes out louder when I used the RCA Memory Manager software to convert the video for emailing. Additionally, when I try to play the raw HD videos on my PC using Windows Media Player, the video and sound are out of sync (but are in sync when played on through a TV). The videos also play well using the RCA software, but they only appear in a small window. I think that my PC or WMP just has a problem with the raw format. When I convert the video to the DivX/MP3 format, everything plays fine. (I used the free version of Any Video Converter to convert my videos, but there are other free software programs out there like Handbrake or Auto Gordian Knot that can convert videos.) The RCA's 2 inch display is viewable even in bright sunlight but it may get a bit washed out.

I had no problem with the RCA Memory Manager software. It loaded easily but required two updates (one for the Memory Manager software and one for the camera firmware). The software automatically looks for updates so you don't have to check the website for new software. The Memory Manager software is only for the video, not photographs. It provides basic video editing capability, frame capture (so you can make a still photo from the video) and conversion capability so you can make a smaller file to email. There's a little more it does but I haven't had the need to try it yet.

This device doesn't take the place of a "real" camcorder or digital camera (this RCA has no flash) but it works well enough as something that is extremely portable so you can take it along to capture events that you otherwise wouldn't. It's more than just a toy but it is fun to play with. For example, yesterday I used it to video and photograph my family at the beach, playing mini-golf, and visiting a lighthouse and the videos and photos all came out very nicely indeed. For a cost of 100 bucks, I definitely think I got my money's worth.

I bought this camcorder for a road trip, and I bought it specifically for these features:

-Charges by and Connects to Computer by mini-USB. This makes it compatible with other charge/USB cords I had for other devices (like my cell phone) and meant I could charge the battery in the car while on the road. Don't underestimate buying products that use mini-USB!

-Instantly recognized by Mac OS X without any special software. Tested it on both Tiger and Leopard. I was able to easily pull the media I wanted from the camera.

-Storage on micro SD made it cross-compatible with my phone and my other camera; I can just switch out the memory cards.

Unlike other reviewers, I didn't have any issues with the controls or ports on this camcorder. The controls are very easy to use and precise.

However, the quality of video and sound is not truly HD. You can expect slightly better than normal camcorder quality. I think that's pretty good from a device that fits in your pocket.

For capturing memories quickly and easily, this is a fantastic product. For making high-quality films, you should probably buy something that isn't a pocket-sized camcorder.

This little camcorder is a GEM! I really am amazed at how good it is. Very light weight, great battery life (like 3 hours) , and excellent video quality.

When I took this guy out of the box, I read the quick start guide that came with it and quickly learned several things.

1. It needs to be charged before use (even though when I turned it on, it was at 75%).

2. The power on/off switch is a sliding switch on the right side of it. It's kind of springy, and you just slide it down and release it.

3. It has three resolution modes, and you need to just switch it to HD (720P!) and not look back. (Left side of camcorder).

After it was fully charged, I plugged it into my PC and Windows detected it, and asked me if I wanted to install the Memory Manager software. I said yes. It installed Memory Manager and immediately told me there was a new version. Cool! RCA made some improvements or something, so I let it update it. After it installed it again, it told me that the camcorder it self also had an update. Wow! I let it update the camcorder. It was very simple!

I have been playing with the Memory Manager software and it is very slick! It lets me edit and cut videos into a larger (or smaller) video and save them. I can even splice different resolution of videos together. I can also use it to create a smaller size video to email to friends, or upload to Youtube! This thing is SWEET!

I did find out that you HAVE to install the RCA software... Apparently, it installs a "special" video codec, and without it, you are not going to see the videos. Once you install the RCA software, you can also use Windows Media Player to view the videos! Again, WOW!

I bought an 8 GB micro SD card for mine. I get like 4 hours of HD video.

OH yeah, it also is a 8 MP camera!!! You have to be patient at first when you learn how to use it. You press the camera button once, and it puts it in camera mode. Press it again and it takes a photo. Just hold it still, as there is a shutter delay. Photo quality is awesome. To go back to video mode, you press the big red record button. Real simple to use!

I've had this camera for a few months now, it replaced an older model Flip that I gave to a family member and was half the price of the HD Flip.

If you're a technical person who doesn't mind messing around with .avi files, then by all means get this camera. The included software is horrible, you're better off just copying off the .avi files, playing them in VLC and editing them in whatever you like, on the PC or on the Mac (I've worked with them on both).

Video quality is pretty much on-par for this type of camera, great for quick, cheezy family videos, but you won't be winning an Oscar for cinematography with this camera, nor any camera in this class. Audio quality is on-par too. I did not have any buzzing or other camera interference as others have mentioned.

I did have a problem with a 4G SDHC card that the camera simply would not recognize, but a 8G card by another manufacturer works just fine. The battery gives out (about 2 hours of continuous video shooting) long before the card fills up.

Charging is quirky, it will work off of full-powered USB ports, probably draws 1000mw, so your 500mw ports won't work. Has problems on some of my laptop ports, but works fine off a powered USB hub. You can not replace the battery, once it is dead you'll probably replace the camera.

You'll probably never use the low-quality modes, what's the point? Just shoot in HD and be done with it.

The ports are all covered in goofy rubber flaps. Easy to rip-off if you're not careful. They'll keep dirt and water out. The body is plastic, good or bad, that's up to you to decide, I don't mind at all.

It's small, lightweight, and very thin. It has a strap but no mounting points. I found my arm getting tired holding it up for long periods, and you can't stand it up on a flat surface easily.

The playback on the unit itself is good enough for watching in the field.

The sensor is 5mp but the camera interpolates still photos to 8mp, don't know why, I wish it didn't bother and just left them at 5. If I don't feel like carrying my 10mp camera with me along with this, it's good enough for most family shots.

RCA support has been prompt and responsive, but could not answer all of my questions and had a little bit of an attitude.

Advantages over the flip, cheaper price, smaller and lighter, takes standard memory cards. Disadvantages, the software is horrible for non-technical people, no camera mount, can't replace the battery.

I really wanted to like this camcorder, however, the video quality was so poor that it was basically unusable. If you record in anything but the brightest sunlight the results will be terrible. The design of the camera is nice. Its light weight, stylish and comfortable. Used it for a few days before finally giving up. If you have memories worth recording then they deserve better than this camcorder. Oh, the memory card retaining latch broke the forth time I ejected the card so now its actually completely useless as I can't get a card to latch in anymore. Somehow a fitting end to a disappointing product. Shame on you RCA!

I bought this unit with the intent of copying my VHS collection and using this recorder in place of my VCR. After reading reviews from various sources, I bought this model over the next closest Philips. (By the way, what's up with few brands providing black cabinetry?)

This unit is very easy to use. To get the most out of the unit READ THE MANUAL! One of the best features is the flexible record, allowing optimum recording for those more-than-2 hour-programs. This feature provides the highest quality recording available for the time that you desire to record. Unlike the VCR, where you'd have to record on the LP (or SLP) mode if a program is more than 2 hours, this option will give you the best picture it can in the disc-space provided. To my eye, programs of 2:20 look no worse than if it was recorded on SP.

Of course, some of my prerecorded VHS tapes are copyrighted (but not all) and can't be recorded this was expected.

There is some concern regarding DVD-R playback on other machines. (Don't forget to FINALIZE. This is all covered in the manual.) IF you have problems, try various brands of media. My JVC player had no problem with Verbatim, Memorex or TDK. However, only the TDK would playback on my Toshiba player. I loaned all three brands to a friend and all 3 played on his Philips and Panasonic players.

My only complaints are:

Can't record on DVD-RW.

No (audio) digital input (no brands I could find had it)

I had considred buying a PC-based DVD recorder, but based on the complaints of various friends who have PC-based DVD recorders, I made the better choice by buying this product MUCH easier. Now my friends are considering buying a DMR-E50.

The wife & I decided to hold off on buying a DVD player until they could record, and those units were more affordable. To the DMR-E50K I can only ask: "Where have you been all my life?!?"

This is a great concept and a wonderful machine.

I currently have 2 VCR's slaved to one another then channeled through this unit, the satellite receiver and either the DVD player from my home theater, my camcorder or my digital camera connected to this machine. It is not an overstatement to say that this device is the workhorse of our Media Center. And it's up to the job.

Until I brought this out of the box, my wife was recording her craft shows to video tapes. Twenty-some of them, to be exact. This means that on a 6 hour tape, there might be 30-40 minutes of stuff she wants to save for future reference. Now, she can use the timer to record the whole show, but edit out the stuff she doesn't want to keep. Also, all those tapes will, someday, have the parts she wants to keep transfered to DVD.

As other reviews have noted, I am also transfering my old video tapes to DVD and simply based on the space I'm clearing up, this machine is worth the price.

The only media problem I've ever encountered was when I bought the wrong format. Other than that, all the media I've used have worked well.

If you're looking for a DVD Recorder to transfer over non-copyrighted material, Panasonic's DMR-E50K does the job without a hitch!

If you're new to DVD, I wouldn't recommend this as your first player. The instruction manual is a little confusing if you're not already familiar with wiring and general setup. Recording a DVD is similar to recording a CD-R in a CD Recorder. You must finalize the DVD-R before it's playable on (most) other DVD Players. If you don't, it won't play on any other machine other than the DMR-E50K.

The picture and sound is very good. Recording time varies from 1, 2, 4 or 6 hours on a single sided 4.7 GB DVD. The top two speeds (XP & SP) look great! The two low speeds (LP & EP) really looks like the VHS equivalent.

After reading other reviews and specifications with other DVD Recorders, my main concerns were disc and player compatability. The DMR-E50K works with Panasonic's DVD-RAM (playable only in the DMR-E50K), and offers editing and re-recording on the same disc over and over again. As for DVD-Rs, the DMR-E50K has no problems recording with TDK brand DVD-Rs. I have 3 DVD Players (not including the DMR-E50K) and after finalizing a DVD-R, the finished DVD worked on all of them: Audiovox, Panasonic (different model), and a high end McIntosh.

The Panasonic DMR-E50K does exactly what I expected it to do. It offers Progressive Scan, S-Video, Composite video, DTS Output, Dolby Digital 5.1 playback (on pre-recorded discs), and the convenience of recording over and over again on a single DVD-RAM disc.

On the negative side, it only records in Dolby Digital two channel stereo (Pro-Logic compatible), and only offers an optical digital output (not coaxial).

I wouldn't consider this player to the "causal" viewer. However, if you're into DVD and want recording capability, Panasonic's DMR-E50K may just be what you're looking for.

I brought this from Amazon a month ago and it works just as easy as a VHS recorder. All you need is a blank disk and tell it when to record and it will record with it's built in timer. I have been using several brands of DVD-R disk and only have problems with the cheap ones(i.e. no name brands). The problems only happen rarely. For example, the recording will stop and go to recovery mode. But don't worry if goes to recovery mode, previous recordings are not destroy. However, you can't record anymore to that disk. The recorder also uses DVD-RAM disk and this is my most favorite type of disk. It treats a DVD-RAM disk like a hard drive. There is no recovery mode or hiccups that I have seen happen to a DVD-RAM disk yet. ...

I've recorded over 200 movies on this recorder, and the results are usually excellent, but sometimes there are disasters.

This recorder is not for everybody because sometimes it's glitchy, even with Panasonic's disks. If the recording passes the first 111 seconds, it usually will continue, but don't count on it. When it reaches that magic moment, it will sometimes bomb, meaning the laser lens is dirty, or the disk quality is not to the recorder's liking, or the power is too spiky, or it's the wrong day of the week. Maybe this touchy behavior is unique to my recorder, but I missed getting a few treasured movies off the cable. Who knows when those will be aired again. Recordings of broadcast t.v. are not nearly as good as those on digital cable, but sometimes the network presentations have good quality broadcasts almost worthy of DVD recording.

Sometimes the recorder mistracks, getting the temporal sequencing out of order. That's annoying. However, if the recording is ripped to the PC, then the re-recording can smooth out this problem and a few others such as stuttering and pixelation madness.

It's touchy. Sometimes DVD players have trouble playing the finalized disks. Frequent cleaning of the recorder's laser lens is necessary to prevent the problems given above.

I suppose this glitchy nature is because of the power in the laser. Lower power increases the lifetime of the burner, but the disks being burned have to have a perfect surface and disk opacity has to be very high so the low burn power of the laser doesn't pass through the disk but gets concentrated. I'm not sure this is best explanation for the recorder's malfunction with other manufacturer's disks, and occasionally with Panasonic's. The 50-cent disks from other manufacturers will work most of the time, but expect a few failures.

When it records timed events, most of the time the final product is excellent. However, it would be nice to have a keyboard to type in the titles. Using the telephone-like keypad is inconvenient. What was Panasonic thinking? An infrared keyboard would be a big help.

While the DVD-RAM disks can be edited, using the keypad makes editing inconvenient. In order to make RAM recordings watchable on DVD players, I had to purchase Panasonic's inexpensive and versatile player that can read RAM disks. Playing the RAMs on the player makes DVD mastering possible with the DVD recorder.

I wish Panasonic had software that would allow editing of recordings prior to finalizing. That would make things more convenient.

When I buy my next recorder, I'm going to be looking for greater ease of use and for features that address the problems I've had. I don't want to mislead anyone, because this unit has many good features.

Should people buy this machine? Yes, oh yes! Low price, high quality. It is very good most of the time, but you should know the things I and the other reviewers have to say, so you know what to expect, and so you won't be as disappointed and frustrated as I was initially. Keep the laser clean and most of the time it will behave well.

While superb recordings can be made with the SP (standard play setting), the LP (long play)setting is perfect for most recordings. The recording quality of LP is very good. That lowers the cost of recordings, so the more expensive Panasonic DVD-R disks are more affordable. The same cannot be said for EP (extended play), but even EP recordings are remarkably good.

I had a technical problem w/ the first dashcam, whereupon Bravolink remedied the issue far beyond my expectations... Thank you Bravolink. The only problem I found w/ the recorder is that the instructions are in Chinese, and I was not able to download the device's drivers into my computer... That being said, it does have an AV cable and I do get usable video from the device.

Although the product is shipped from Amazon warehouses (making it qualify for Amazon Prime! shipping),

the seller is a really nice guy (Eric) and has answered every random question I've thrown at him within a few hours.

I had originally purchased another player, the NBox V3 which is a really popular player on here as well.

It was a really nice product with lots of options and features but I was having problems with some of the newer MKV files.

The encoding was not being read by the Nbox. Eric was prompt to offer me a return and suggested the kdLinks HD210 because

it does a bit better with MKV files. Sure enough... this thing plays everything I've thrown at it with ease, huge files, small files, all formats.

It's great if you watch TV series or anime, like everyone's been saying. You can't even get something like this without paying way over a 100 dollars.

I have an Apple TV at home which i love for the whole iPhone remote capability (typing on YouTube, Vimeo, Netflix, etc), but I couldn't do my personal

Been using my kdlinks for the past 2 weeks on a constant basis. It plays tv shows, movies, etc...with crystal clear video and sound that is perfect. There is NO need to burn a dvd anymore. I have a nice thumb drive plug it in the back of the KDlinks, I put my movies on it, and watch them on my hd tv in 1080P via an HDMI and it is amazing. Make no mistakes that the KD links WORKS and works great. Have ZERO misgivings about buying it. The player itself freezes constantly when you try to use any of the modes during play. When you try to load a file (MPEG2 and AVI), you're lucky if it will read every other one. When it doesn't, it needs to be re-booted. Additionally, SDHC's formatted in NFTS may not work at all.

Expect to see numerous accusations against my review as a result of the seller mustering his forces to discredit this legitimate review.

After 15', you may notice the selection for HDMI cables thins out a bit, especially if you don't want to break the bank. I got this cable to connect my computer to my television, and it works great. The only thing to note about it would have to be how hefty it isthis thing is very heavy duty. The cable is thick; about what your typical grounded type extension cord is like in terms of both circumference and flexibility! Don't let this deter you though, just be aware that this is not super flexible or discreet (depending on how you are going to use it), but it works great and seems quite sturdy.

I absolutely love this player!! I have owned three other brands, but this one is by far the best. One great feature is that instead of disc skip, this player allows you to select a specific disc. Not to mention that the features are numerous here (the owner's manual is as thick as I've ever seen for a DVD player). I bought this player (Gold colored) 2 years ago. I liked it so much that I just bought the Black one a week ago for another room in the house. The reason why, it is simply an extremely well engineered piece of equipment. Superb audio and video output period. I have found that this unit has the best zoom (more than just 3 or 4 zoom levels) and more levels of forward and backward speeds (useful when searching through a chapter on a DVD and you don't want to miss it by going too fast, and don't want to wait forever by going too slow) than any other unit I have tested or looked at.

The remote is one of the best I have ever used, and I find it very intuitive and easy to use. The user's manual is great as well. I also liked that it came with a component video cable and I didn't have to purchase one separately.

If you plan to use this unit primarily as a DVD player and are likely to have "marathon" DVD sessions, this unit is superb. I often have a mix of several 2 disc DVD's and some audio CD's in the unit and love having the 7 disc capacity to be able to do this.

Some of the negative reviews here have bothered me because they seem to come from some ignorant viewpoints. I would like to address those for those of you considering this unit.

Noise while changing disks: For those who complain about noise while changing a disc, you should probably have gone in to your local Best Buy or other electronics store and viewed a floor model. When you see and understand the mechanical method used you will understand why there is "some" noise while it changes discs. I, for one, do not find this disturbing at all. To get a 7 disc changer in the space of 5, and from an engineering standpoint, I find JVC's method rather ingenious. I tell you, don't let a little noise when it changes discs to dissuade you from buying this unit. This unit makes absolutley NO NOISE (other than the intended audio from the media being played) when playing.

Flashing light for current disc being played: The light that flashes for the current disc being played HAS NEVER BEEN an issue for me. I don't have ADHD either though, so I am able to stay engrossed enough in the movie I am watching that I HAVE NEVER NOTICED OR BEEN DISTRACTED by the flashing light (even in a darkened room!), so don't let this dissuade you from buying this unit. GET A LIFE (or some Ritalin) IF THIS BOTHERS YOU!

Note that JVC sells and markets this first and foremost as a DVD player, albeit one that can play a wide variety of formats. For those of you who want more of a "pure" CD player because you will be mostly playing CD's and want a "true" random play setting, GO BUY A DEDICATED CD PLAYER! Same goes for those of you who plan to use a DVD player to mostly show your photos, if the photo load times bother you, then go buy a dedicated device whose main function is to do that. JVC has added those as a convenience, but it isn't the main purpose of this player. For most people this unit will do a fine job of replacing your CD player as well.

For the reviewer who had several disks get jammed, etc... my 2 year old unit has NEVER jammed and I don't find the unit to be "prone" to jamming whatsoever and I use it quite frequently and often am changing discs while one is playing. I suspect that any jamming that occurs is more related to problems with the "user" than the unit. I am sure impatience and not seating a disc correctly will cause jams in ANY multi-player unit.

Some reviewers have complained about the DVD-Audio connections/confusion. Had you thoroughly researched before your purchase, you would have found the answer to this. If you go to the JVC website (as I did, and I do for ANY manufacturer of equipment that I am thinking of buying), you would have found this info.

To sum it up, this unit has been superbly reliable in the time I have owned it (which is why I bought a 2nd one). It has superb audio and video output. I recommend this to anyone looking for a multi-disc DVD player (with the ability to play CD's and the other formats it lists).

I bought this DVD Player after trying quite a few other brands, and it is by far the best looking, and best build quality. DVD and music CD playback are excellent and there are a lot of nice features for setting up the display, etc.

However, one main reason for buying a new player was to view JPEG photo CDs, and listen to MP3 audio CDs. This player is not good for either: it does not recognize the ID3 tags in MP3 audio files and fails to play any file containing them (so, if you've ripped any audio in the last year or more you've got to start again). Also, it is extremely slow in displaying JPEG photos, although it seems to be one of the few players to load the photo at full resolution (so if you zoom in you see a lot of detail). Load times for a 4M-pixel photo are about 20 to 30 seconds! You could choose to re-burn all your photo CDs at lower resolution, but why not just buy a player that shows them faster?

Best for MP3 or JPEG: Toshiba SD-2900 or Samsung 5-disc changer. I ended up returning the JVC even though I liked it for so many other reasons, and bought the Samsung instead it doesn't look as nice, only holds 5 discs, but it displays JPEGs faster, and plays every single MP3 song I have.

O.K. I've got to even things out. Sometimes you just have to go with your gut and avoid reviews and other peoples opinions. If I had listened to what some people say I would have never bought this player. In a word "BRAVO" this player jams through DVDs with no errors or weird anomolies. The picture is superb and there are so many parameter adjustments. Audio playback is superb, it whips through CDR's, RW's, scratched discs (it happens no matter how hard you try sometimes). I love it. With a 7 disc capacity I thought it would be slow when changing discs but it is actually faster than my 3 disc I had prior and it is faster than some of the five discs that I checked out before purchasing this jewel. J.V.C. has yet to steer me wrong and I am very picky (got that obsessive compulsive thing some say). Well as a "gear head" I won't bore you with my equipment list but will tell you that alot of gear is very reliable today and this player is one of them. You could spend alot more and get less, believe me it is hard to keep up with all the hype and when your tech junkie you can easily get sucked into buyers remorse over nothing with things getting so outdated so fast but, with as many formats as this player handles (DVDR,CDR,CDRW,MP3,Jpegs it actually even supported DVDRW even though it say's it won't) you would be very happy. So give it a shot you won't be disappointed. Enjoy

do not hesitate with this player, unless you want to use only as random player at parties as it can only play randomly from one disc at a time. the only drawback from this player is that it is noisy switching from one disc to another, however i don't change discs in the middle of a movie so no big deal. the picture and sound on this player is easily twice as good as my previous toshiba player, which failed after about one year of infrequest use. don't hesitate because of other reviews here, i couldn't be more pleased with the performance of this player, and for those that complained about the display being too small, there is a display button on remote to view the display on the television, and also it DOES let you switch between time remaining, etc. on the counter, as one reviewer stated that he returned this unit because it didn't. maybe he should read the manual first. just felt i had to write a review to counter all the negative reviews here which i don't understand. this unit plays all formats including DVD AUDIO, and does it flawlessly.

I am using these for my downloaded multiple disk music and Audible books.

Certainly not fancy, but really does the trick and the cost is far better than some of the other choices. I decided on the 24 disk size as it was the most versatile for my use, plus you can remove or add the disk sleeves. It's supposed to easily carry up to 24 disks, with 12 double sided sleeves in the unit, but, so far, the most I've used is 12 disks.

I also like that I can print out a cover and track-list pages to insert in the front of the binder, both inside the cover or within the clear cover going around the entire outside like on a regular view snap binder.

It's actually pretty sturdy, too, even though it seems a bit on the flimsy side at first.

Will definitely protect and organize your disks for you and I do recommend this product and you do get a full 10 units per order.

I actually got this camcorder 2 1/2 years ago as my first camcorder in anticipation of the coming birth of our first child. It offered a lot of great features for the price, and I thought the 3" viewscreen right on the camcorder was a big improvement over viewfinders and pop-out screens.

And lo and behold, when we got it, it worked exactly as we thought and we got some great memories.

But then the lens cap broke. And it started to jam tapes regularly. And put dots and speckles into some recordings. And after 3 months of use my battery wouldn't recharge anymore. I brought it in for a repair and a replacement lens cap/battery, but 9 months later all 3 problems happened again.

The first repair was under warranty, I paid for the 2nd one. But last month was really it. My sister, who lives 400 miles away from me, had twins around the same time our son was born and we went up to visit them for their 2nd birthday. My wife took (or I should say tried to take) an hour of video of me playing with all 3 boys and another 2 hours of video of all of us going to the zoo together. Well, you know what, nothing came out, because THE TAPE WAS JAMMED AGAIN! Only this time, the camcorder did not give me any message warning me of this during her attempted recording, so we thought all was fine.

So today, 2 weeks before our 2nd child is due, I threw in the towel and bought a Samsung DV camcorder. Cest la vie....I have 2 Sharp TV's that work great (one is almost 20 years old!) so I don't know if I simply got a "lemon" or if their camcorder standards are just lax compared to their other electronics.

I bought this unit for my wife to record her old albums onto CD's. I looked at a number of similar units, most likely made by one company and simply re-branded. The item was delivered well packed and quickly. The instructions could use a little work, but I would say their not far from any other instructions for an imported electronics item. You may need to walk through the steps a time or two and figure out what works best for you. Really not at all that difficult, just expect that you will have some mistake cd's which will be tossed out. The unit instructions do mention the use of Re Writable CD's. If I had thought about it, I would have used one of those to try it out the first couple times. Oh well... I wasted .25 worth of CD's. Nothing to cry over. As for the quality of the recordings. If you hear static, scatches or popping when you play your record, that's what you'll hear on the CD. It's just like copying to a tape cassette. What you hear is what you get. There are computer programs to clean up these things. However, if your more interested in listening to the music, than wasting hours trying to remove these noises from your recordings, and this type of noise really bothers you. Spend the time to clean it up, or just go buy the CD version. I found that recording from tape casettes produces very good results, and recording from records is just like I said above, what you hear is what you get. We can live with that. Lastly, the sound produced by the speakers in the device is ok. I would compare it to any old record player with speakers. Not great, but ok. On the other hand, I plugged the unit into my stereo system, and it sounds great. My wife mostly listens to her music in her car, so once she transfers the things she wants, I expect this player will probably gather a bit of dust like our stereo system. Still, I feel it was worth the price. I'm happy with the results of both the recordings, and my wife being thrilled to listen to some of her old records in her car.

Although the selling point is ease of use, this does one no good if the parts do not function. I found the turntable very flimsy. After 3 uses the phono arm malfunctioned and would not return fully to the beginning position. The instructions gave a remedy for this problem but if one must do this each time after one plays an LP, this will become a bother. Also the instructions for burning a CD are ambiguous. Not a device I would recommend for serious archiving.

Update: It's been several months since the purchase of this product, and it has worked consistently. My father has burnt dozens of CDs without major problems.

I purchased this tunewriter for my father for Christmas, and we burned a couple CDs from his records that day. The directions, as others have indicated, are not the best (there are a few rather humorous errors), but they can be worked through. It really didn't take too much time to set the unit up and get it going. My father likes the quality of the CDs burnt from his records, and the unit takes up much less space than the stereo with a record player they recently moved to the basement. My father did say, however, that the remote was touchy.

To burn a CD from a record, you do need to listen to the entire record or whatever songs you want to burn. If you want, you can pause the recording and skip around on the records. Yes, you have to station yourself right by the tunewriter and be on the ball with pausing the recording and changing the place on the record, so it does take some time to transfer from a record to a CD. (If you want to be paying attention to your record anyway, this is no major chore.) By the way, whenever you pause the recording, the system automatically advances a track for the CD that will be burnt, but if you haven't paused you can put the tracks wherever you want them by pressing one button to advance tracks.

I read several reviews before I decided on this product, and I noticed some people who had tunewriters (this one or others) said they stopped working after burning a few CDs. I think I should say that CD burners do need to rest sometimes. I've burnt CDs with my computer and noticed that it wouldn't do one right after the other, but once I waited a bit the burner would work again. This might be the issue with some tunewriters too (I can't say for sure). We haven't had any problems with the unit not working, and my father has burnt several CDs since Christmas.
