Philips M100/37 Wireless Home Monitor

Philips M100/37 Wireless Home MonitorThe Philips In.Sight home monitor is a stylish and simple way to watch over your home while you're away, but be sure to check the limitations before you buy.

For starters, do not bother purchasing this device unless you have at least one iOS device, preferably an iPhone. Do not purchase this device as a long term security solution unless you're going to stick with iPhones as your current and future cell phone. Also, as of mid Oct 2012, this camera doesn't really work with iOS 6. It worked under iOS 5, and I'm sure they'll eventually update the app, but if you need a security camera to work right now, I would check to see if there have been any app updates in Oct 2012 or later.

HARDWARE

As for the In.Sight itself, it is a rather nifty looking camera. It feels solid and durable, and it was thoughtfully designed. It comes with two bases, one that can be installed on side walls, and one for a ceiling/table. It also comes with mounting drywall screws. The camera has strong magnet on the bottom of the unit, and that allows it to magnetically connect to the ceiling/table base. It can also be tilted and swiveled to any desired viewpoint with ease thanks to these magnets. The side-wall mount comes with a ball joint arm, which also permits a range of viewpoint possibilities. A long micro-USB cable (included) is used to power the camera. A electric wall adapter is supposed to be included in the box, but it was missing in my package. Luckily I have several wall-to-USB electrical adapters and one of my replacements worked. Anyway, as long as you mount the camera anywhere near an electrical outlet, you'll be fine.

INSTALLATION

Installing the In.Sight couldn't be easier. Just plug it into the wall and then download the Philips In.Sight app from the Apple App Store. You will not be able to install the camera without getting the iOS app. Fire up the app on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch and then create a Philips user account (Name, email, password, and security question are needed). You will also need to be on the wireless home WiFi network that you want the camera to connect to. The SSID and WiFi passkey will need to be entered into the app's software. Once you're logged into your account, a Qcode will be displayed on your screen. Place the Qcode a couple inches away from the In.Sight camera and after about 1 minute, it should connect. It's incredibly simple and takes the guess work away from trying to assign IP addresses to individual devices.

PERFORMANCE

The camera's performance can be best described as "limited." Again, you need to install the device with an iOS device. I currently have a WiFi-only iPad 2, but no longer have an iPhone. Installation was a snap and I could see through the camera while I'm on my home network for 2 hours straight. While I'm away from home (when I actually want to use the camera), I can only view it for 5 minutes at a time when I can connect to a WiFi network. There are no Android or Windows Phone or Blackberry apps for this thing. Additionally, the app is not optimized for iPad usage, meaning you have to look at it with the "mini-iPhone" screen transposed onto the iPad's screen. If you want to be able to view your camera for longer than 5 minutes, you'll have to pay a premium for the app ($25). Depending on when the box was put on store shelves, it may also advertise that you can set your camera to begin recording when it detects motion and upload a clip to your private YouTube account. Well, sometime in June this feature was disabled. Recently, Philips lets you record these motion detected clips to your DropBox account instead. I don't have a DropBox account, so I don't know how well this works. But there are no alternatives to record to say, a SkyDrive account. The video itself is passable, if there is some light around, but it's only VGA quality. The darker it gets, the grainier the picture. Don't expect an HD video to be played on your RetinaDisplay. Finally, as mentioned above, it's not really compatible with iOS 6. All I can see are updated snapshots, the streaming video does not consistently work.

SUMMARY

The Philips In.Sight camera is a simple security solution for iOS users. Yes, there is a webpage Java app that you can use, but you still need an iOS device to display the initial Qcode to set up the camera. And the webpage display is even more limited, as you can't really adjust any camera settings with it; so don't think about using this camera primarily with the web browser, it isn't a viable choice here. This camera should only be purchased by iOS users (I would almost say, only iPhone users, as my WiFi iPad is limited here) who want an incredibly simple security camera solution. The draw here is an easy set up for brief, 5 minute house checks. There are other networked cameras out there that do more for a comparable price---they're just more difficult to install. And unfortunately, until this thing works smoothly with iOS 6, it's difficult to give it any stars.

I picked up a 2 pack at the apple store yesterday, I was kinda hesitant after reading the reviews here, but I needed a camera that could do sound on an iPhone and record events to the cloud. After hearing that Dropbox support was released I decided to bight the bullet.

I've use many IP cameras and they all have there issues, but Philips has done a great job hiding these issues from the user.

Network configuration was very simple, plug it in and point the iPhone screen at the camera, the camera then configured itself. All I had to do was give it a name.

Streaming video via wifi and 3G on Verizon worked without a hitch, I did notice on 3G that video was delayed about 15 seconds, and on the same wifi about 2 seconds.

I configured the camera to my dropbox account and turned on the motion detection and to my amazement video clips and thumbnails were being uploaded to my dropbox account. Nice!

You can view your dropbox thumbnails and videos from the app, which is nice.

All and all I'm fairly impressed, this is a huge evolution from other cameras I've used. Now they just need waterproof outdoor.

Things to note:

You can view the camera on a computer, but the experience is not the same as the app, it is much more limited.

I haven't been able to find an android version of the app to try yet, I don't know if there is one.

I don't think you could setup this camera without a iPhone/iPad/iTouch.

I was just as frustrated as many of the One Star raters when I first got these cameras. However, I must say that since they have updated the software, the camera firmware and added Dropbox support, I am now pretty happy.

I think people that are complaining that these are not good for a security system do not understand what they really are. They are simply home monitors and they are always going to be at the mercy of your home network speed and internet bandwidth. If you want a truly reliable internet security camera you are going to have to spend A LOT more money.

I have been using these to keep an eye on some home contractors, the housekeeper, my pet sitter and just see what the cats are up to while I am at work. They work great for that. I would NOT rely on them to alert me to a break-in. I have a separate (much more expensive) monitored security system to do that.

I really like the motion sensor feature. I know immediately when someone comes into the house. However, I really wish there was a way to set up times to stop the motion sensing. The thing alerts like crazy when I get home from work until I reduce the sensitivity. Then I have to reset in the morning.

I have only had these a few months and in that time Philips has made HUGE improvements in the functionality. I am hopeful that they will continue to do so.

I liked the look, price and simplicity & purchased 3 monitors. Of the 3, only one has been successfully connected to wifi. I have contacted Philips, but to date, they have not provided any additional information that has been a help. The first one connected so easily, that I thought the others would be a snap as well. Not the case. The second one took a few hours over several days to connect, trying many resets & relocations. Then after about a day, the first one cut out & after numerous resets & reconnect attempts, still have not been able to connect it despite strong wifi strength & Unobstructed path. The third never did connect.

Want Philips M100/37 Wireless Home Monitor Discount?

Purchased two-pack from Apple store. Setup was easy and I can view video/sound with both my IPad and IPhone with wifi and 4g. I also upgraded for the annual plan to get more streaming view time for 24.95 annually. Synced to my Dropbox was no problem. Now, it would be nice when the price comes down on single cameras..that are battery operated or have a battery backup..you have to power the cameras using the USB cord plugged into the wall. Battery operated would give you more options form mounting camera.

Samsung DVD-HD860 Up-Converting DVD Player

Samsung DVD-HD860 Up-Converting DVD Player
  • Upconverting, mult-format progressive scan DVD player; measures 16.9 x 1.77 x 9.8 inches (WxHxD)
  • Transforms standard DVD to HD-quality video--720p, 1080i formats
  • Compatible with DVD-R/RW, DVD+R/RW, CD-R/RW, VCD, SVCD, MP3, WMA, JPEG
  • Outputs: 1 HDMI, 1 component, 1 S-Video, 1 composite, 1 coaxial audio, 1 optical audio
  • Supports both Dolby Digital and DTS encoded DVDs

I picked up a refurbished job from Tiger (I like Amazon but the deal was just too good) Works great for the short time I've had it. Got a new big HDTV that does the 1080 thing so I'm impressed. You can set it up to just come on at that rate but it has a botton to "toggle" through the options. The only minor complaint is the on light the BRIGHT blue on light is a bit much. Put a little round sticky thing to tone it down. Should you care, I'm going to give you a little "hack" information should you play disc from other than Zone One (you know who you are) It worked like a charm first time for me so I pass it on. I have the Alley McBeal complete set from the UK (can't get it in the US) plus a few DVD I pick up on vaction.

This just sets you DVD to Region "Free"--Region code hack posted by

Silver Surfer, November 05 2006:

DEAR FRIENDS, IT TOOK ME A LOT OF TIME AND PATIENCE, BUT I DID IT

GOT A SAMSUNG HD860, JUST HACKED THE REGION WITH THE SAMSUNG

REMOTE 00054D, I BOUGHT DVD PLAYER ON USA, REGION 1, I DID THIS, NOW

I CAN SEE ANY REGION DISK ON MY DVD PLAYER. . . SO HERE IS HOW

FIRST SET HDMI SEL BUTTON TO 480P, THEN OPEN TRAY NO DISK ON IT,

PRESS INFO BUTTON, AND PRESS NINE, UNTIL NUMBER 9 APPEARS ON LEFT

CORNER OF TV DISPLAY, THEN, TURN OFF DVD, THEN ON AND. . . . ENJOY

FREE REGION LIFE. . . BYE BYE!

You have to hit the number 9 repeatedly to get it to show and it will appear on the upper left corner of your screen (be careful the #9 shows up "over" the other information on the screen) but the whole things pretty groovy. Tiger had them for about $40 but even at twice the price it's very cool. The HDMI works great I put that into my HDTV then run the Optical sound from the the TV (it has optical out) to the Receiver for my "Surround" sound. Actually due to that blue light its gets just 4.5 stars but I rounded it up to 5! It does require the HDMI hook up to benifit from the Up-Convert feature, works for me my Toshiba HDTV has 2 in HDMI and wth the "Optical" sound out from the TV makes for a very good set up for me.

Buy Samsung DVD-HD860 Up-Converting DVD Player Now

Okay so I just bought this item but I am feeling the need to write up a review so here it goes. I picked this player up from Best Buy after examining all the other players they had, the deciding factor for me to go with this Samsung DVD player is because my HDTV is also a Samsung. I wanted a good HD-upconverter and this was priced for $98 at Best Buy and was the only player I saw of this brand so I figured this is probably the best what Samsung had to offer so purchased it, but it was only until I got home and saw on BB's website that they sale a higher model HD-960, but the only difference I could tell is that the HD-96can do 1080p and play back DivX which this player (HD-860) is not advertised to do. Although if you look at the middle of the HD-860 manual you will see in the section it describes the formats it can play by logo it also has DivX logo there. I later discovered that this player actually DivX support its hidden and has to be accessed a certain way and it doesn't require a hack to do it. Just create a video CD containing DivX files on there, you have to create folders and place the Divx video files in those folders so don't put DivX files just on the top level of the disc. Burn and close the disc when you've finished and insert it into this player. It will show a menu displaying the content on the disc (the folders), just select a folder you put your videos under and then the menu will display the list of video files it contains. To watch the video move the selection back up to the top in the folder where it will show "..." and just click the PLAY button on the remote there and it will play back all the videos in that folder. Pretty cool isn't it. I figure Samsung must have disabled the function to auto-play or playback any video files on disc thats a DivX file when selected, but they forgot to disable the ability to hit PLAY on the "..." folder itself.

Now I would have gave this 5 stars but this player like a lot of new players that are starting to come out I notice wont allow you to do HD (720p/1080i) over Component connection. Usually this feature is there but not openly available in the menus and it has to be unlocked through a hack code with the remote. It seems that the previous Samsung DVD players could easily be hacked to do HD over component, even my last DVD player a CyberHome could do it, but this HD-860 does not, I searched the web but couldn't find any info on how to unluck it, and my guess is that Samsung just hasn't leaked how to do this to the public yet or was forced by the Movie industry to remove the feature.

I really dont see why the movie industry is being so tight on only allowing HD via HDMI. Most TVs only have one HDMI and if they have HD digital cable like I do, then that one HDMI is probably already occupied. Most HDTVs have 1 or more component connection. Component connections can do HD so I dont see why consumers have to go the hassle of this, I just wish somebody would really do something about this cause I see it as a really unnecessary copy protection trend.

If you need a nicely priced up-converting DVD player, without all the bells and whistles, this is the player for you. You can definitely notice the picture quality increase (when using the up-convert setting) compared to the usual picture quality provided by standard def. progressive scan (480p) DVD players.

The higher the quality of the DVD transfer, the better it looks with this DVD player. With my old Sony standard-def player, it didn't make much of a difference whether the transfer was high quality or not. Now I can tell which DVDs received a good treatment or not.

I have this DVD player matched with a Samsung HL-S5086W 50" DLP HDTV and the picture quality is excellent. It pays to use an HDMI cable rather than the component video as the picture is sharper and seems to have deeper color saturation. I'm very pleased with the purchase.

In summary, this is a great low-priced player and does exactly what most people would need from it: up-converts your standard definition DVDs until you are ready to upgrade to Hi-Def DVDs and it doesn't bog you down with a lot of unnecessary options or complex menus.

I purchased this player on a recommendation from a (non-commissioned) store salesman (who clearly had nothing to lose) at the same time that I bought my Sony KDL-46XBR2 HD LCD TV (which, by the way, is a STELLAR television). He could have easily talked me into the Sony DVP-NS75H, which was sitting on the shelf next to the Samsung (for about $15 more), but he spoke very highly of the customer satisfaction rating on the Samsung unit, while also indicating a fairly low satisfaction rating on the Sony (excepting that my TV remote would have also been able to control the DVD player, a nice bonus that I chose to forego on his recommendation).

When I got the unit home, I plugged in the HDMI cable to my TV and the digital coaxial cable to my Denon receiver and everything worked beautifully on the first try. I don't know exactly what problem an earlier reviewer was having, but I knew that I had to go in and program my receiver as to which input selections corresponded to the digital inputs: optical is assigned to the TV/DBS, coax 1 is DVD, etc.

The picture produced at 1080i was stunning. I don't know why people were having problems with the remote. Mine worked flawlessly out of the box, with only very minor delays between pressing a button and seeing the unit respond, most notably while movie playback was commencing.

All in all, I'm very pleased with this product and would recommend it to my friends.

We loved this DVD player for the first 6 months, then it the power started shutting off randomly. I did every troubleshooting thing I could think of, and came up with nothing. I also went to the Samsung website, and tried to find help there and came up with N-O-T-H-I-N-G! We bought the DVD player b/c we bought a Samsung HD flatscreen TV (love it-no problems). However, this is our second samsung dvd playerhated the first one too! I should have known! The first one was several years ago-thought it was a fluke. For as much $$ as this one was I can't believe how much this one SUCKS! I am going back to buying cheap DVD players. I am so mad! The power won't stay on for more than 1 or 2 minutes! NOT WORTH THE $$$$$$$

SwissGear LEGACY E-Reader Case - 6" x 1" x 8.5" - Polyester - Black

SwissGear LEGACY E-Reader Case - 6' x 1' x 8.5' - Polyester - BlackMy girlfriend and I both purchased these for our iPad2's at the same time and they both have held up through our daily use and fit perfectly in our backpacks. Even though this product doesn't say it's meant for iPad or iPad2 they still fit them perfectly and with the front zipper on the outside you can put your USB dock/charger cable along with the wall outlet charge adapter, a stylus, and even the HDMI output convert cable for iPad2's all inside of this little pouch without even filling it still. The inside of both the front pocket and the inside pocket have a very soft lining that protects it's contents and with the outside also a soft padding it will not scratch anything it's laying up again (for instance inside of a backpack). There isn't anything bad to say about this case! We both love it and we probably will not be buying a new case for the life of our iPad2's and beyond because there is no need for another external case.

Panasonic HDC-SDT750, High Definition 3D Camcorder

Panasonic HDC-SDT750, High Definition 3D CamcorderI bought this Panasonic 3-D camcorder based on the fabulous features it shows in the description.

Zoom 12X with 18X capability and High Definition full 1080P.

It has many features usually found on Professional models but when you connect the supplied 3-D attachment the buck stops here, or should I say the value.

When shooting 3-D you do not have HD-1080P. In fact, your shooting in 3:2 instead of 16:9 which means the High Definition quality is gone and you have a black border surrounding the screen.

There's no Zoom.

The Fuji W3 may only be 720P but at least if has a 5X optical zoom and plays in 16:9 format.

The Fuji W1 and W3 both shoot 16:9 3-D still photos.

Even the cheaply made Aiptek 3-D camera takes photos and Video in 16:9 format and it's only $200.00 but the quality is really bad.

As for the Panasonic. it does not shoot still photos at all in any format with the 3-D attachment.

I am lost for words on how Amazon and especially PANASONIC avoids any mention of these facts.

They certainly lead the consumer to believe the fabulous features of the camcorder are available while shooting both 2-D and 3-D.

There should be a big warning: THE FEATURES OF THE HDC-SDT750K CAMCORDER SHOWN IN THIS DESCRIPTION DO NOT FUNCTION WHEN SHOOTING 3-D.

Also, Panasonic should not claim that the consumer will be able to shoot 3-D video just like Hollywood with this statement:

POWERFUL TRUE TO LIFE 3-D VIDEO JUST LIKE HOLLYWOOD MOVIES.

This is false because the depth of the 3-D does not come even close to reality of a really devoted 3-D camera such as their professional model or the old Toshiba.

Panasonic makes a great professional 3-D camcorder priced at $21,000.00 and they could make a consumer model for much less by merely making a 3-D camcorder specifically designed for 3-D only.

My old Toshiba 3-D camcorder works great because it's devoted to shooting only 3-D and the lenses are farther apart so it has the proper depth of field.

It's too bad Toshiba was ahead of it's time with limited resolution of standard VHS tape.

I will say when shooting close ups the Panasonic does a great job with 3-D but beyond 20 to 30 feet the 3-D is more like 2-D.

One other positive feature is that after you put your 3-D video on a disc it will play directly on your 3-D TV just like a Bluray 3-D movie, but only in 1080i 3:2.

When will Sony come out with a real consumer 3-D camcorder like Toshiba did 20 years ago?

What are you waiting for SONY.

UPDATE 11/25/10

If you own any laptop or computer with NVIDIA 3-D you will not want this Panasonic 3-D camcorder because it is not compatible with NVIDIA 3-D.

The best 3-D camera you want is the AIPTEK 3-D camera priced on Amazon at only $189.00.

It's a cheaply made camera and the quality is not as good as Panasonic but Aiptek includes NVIDIA 3-D in their softwear. (PLease read my review on the Aiptek 3-D camera)

It's really an insult for Panasonic to allow this cheaply made Aiptek from China to be ahead of one of the biggest consumer electronic company in Japan and the world.

Please read my important update below dated 9/4/11

IMPORTANT UPDATE 5/15/11

I finally got the new Sony HDR-TD10 3-D camcorder I've been waiting for so long (Priced at $1,498.00) and what a disapointment.

It will not allow 3-D copying to disc like this Panasonic.

The Sony direct DVD copier does not recognize the SD memory card from Sony's new 3-D camcorder but the Sony direct DVD copier does recognize and copy the SD card from this Panasonic camcorder and makes an instant 3-D AVCHD copy ready for immediate viewing on any 3-D TV with a Bluray 3-D player, just like a Bluray 3-D movie. Sony does not allow any copying in 3-D, you cannot view 3-D in a computer designed for 3-D viewing such as the Toshiba laptop with Nvidia 3-D or any of the Acer 3-D laptops.

In fact, the only way you can watch 3-D with the new Sony is to watch your 3-D video directly from the camcorder with the HDMI connection.

You can transfer your 3-D video to an external hard drive but then must return the 3-D video to the camcorder in order to watch it in 3-D.

Sony praises the fact that when you shoot 3-D video you're able to watch what you shoot later in HD 2-D and so when you do transfer your 3-D videos to a computer you can watch it in 2-D. BIG Deal!

If I want a High difinition 2-D camcorder I can get one for a lot less then $1,498.00, even a model made by Sony.

Sony does have nice 3-D quality with a little more depth but I'm sending mine back for a refund because of the lack of other features.

I hate to say it 3-D enthusisits but I now appreciate this Panasonic more then ever because it is the only 3-D camcorder which allows your 3-D videos to be copied and viewed on a Bluray 3-D player.

Perhaps Panasonic's claim that it's just like Hollywood 3-D movies isn't completely false after all as I previously stated in this review.

By the way, the new JVC 3-D camcorder is the same as the Sony. It will not allow any 3-D videos to be copies to a disc and the only way you can watch the 3-D video you shoot is with the camcorder connected to the TV with the HDMI connection.

I read this in a review posted at B & H. so I'll save my money for some one to do it right!

SPECIAL UPDATE JUNE 2011

I was curious about a cheap CODY 7 inch portable 2-D to 3-D DVD player actually manufactured by V-ZON model TF3DVD7019 so I decided to check it out for $118.00 here on Amazon.

I was expected to be disappointed and I was at first because it would not play any 3-D from the Fuji W1, Fuji W3 or of course any of the AVCHD DVD's from this Panasonic 3-D camcorder but was I surprised when I played a copy of a regular 3-D DVD made from this Panasonic 3-D camcorder that was not AVCHD.

It plays pretty good in 3-D.

There's a little ghosting now & then and there's no 3-D adjustments but it works!

I made the regular type of DVD without AVCHD by connecting the audio/video cable supplied with my Panasonic 3-D camcorder directly to the input of my DVD recorder.

If you attempt to make a copy with the Panasonic softwear you will only get 2-D if you choose to make a regular DVD copy. Only AVCHD copies are in 3-D.

I did notice slight pausing every few seconds when playing the DVD on the Cody player so more testing will have to be done but it's atill a way to view your 3-D videos when you're away from home.

Don't expect HD quality and keep in mind you must be directly in front of the Cody 7 inch screen in order to view 3-D properly.

I am not a big fan of CODY or V-ZON products as they usually bite the dust after the warranty is expired but I'll take a chance on this product because it's the only way to watch my Panasonic 3-D videos without a 3-D TV.

IMPORTANT UPDATE 9/4/11

You will be happy to know that the latest version of Stereoscopic player available from 3dtv.at features ways to view 3-D files from this camcorder and new Sony 3-D camcorders.

I have a Toshiba 3-D laptop and the Stereoscopic viewer has various options for viewing Side By Side 3-D including Nvidia 3-D which is installed in my Toshiba so for the first time I am now able to watch 3-D from this Panasonic camcorder on my computer.

Please see my other reviews.

Basics: The camera is a SMALL (good or bad depending on your needs) unit that takes very nice HD video and has some cute & trendy features such as face recognition etc.

It records to an SD card. It has HDMI output. It works. It takes nice stills. Not bad.

But the main reason to own this camera is that when you attach the front lens unit it engages the camera both structurally AND functionally. Functionally it shuts down EVERYTHING that isn't straight forward 3D. So don't worry about how to use facial recognition in 3D, you can't. But that's OK. Or is it?

I happen to know a whole bunch about 3D and especially 3D video as I have been doing it for over 20 years. That's right, and it matters. I'll explain as I go.

This camera is both a breath of fresh air and a cold shower.

To do real 3D you need two cameras each one assigned to one eye a right and a left properties of living human beings. The mechanism is thus subserviant to how human beings observe and react and perceive.

So to understand the problems imagine your subject a nice red car parked dead center on a very large lazy susan that extends many yards beyond the subject. On the far side of the lazy susan we have a microphone stand. near us on the near side of the lazy susan is a vertical coat rack. Both of these non car objects are there just to enhance the 3D experience.

What do we see? If we are looking at the car (the director's intention), then if we are really there where the camera would be, we see the car. Duh. But we don't really see the other two objects so well, they are blurry as they are out of OUR eyes focal lengths for looking at the car. Hollywood movie makers do this with normal movie making to bring the eye naturally to the point of the DIRECTOR'S interest.

Key concept : SHARED INTEREST You must share the interest of the director. Out of focus works well. That's how we see anyway. .. until we decide to check out the other stuff.

While looking at the car if we close one eye then swap to the other eye, the car does NOT move. Both images are nearly as one, just subtly altered by the angle, but not displacing as you blink R L R L...

The two objects jump right and left or left and right, what's far goes one way, what's near goes the other. THINGS NOT IN SHARED INTEREST JUMP SIDEWAYS, one way for far the other way for near. It is as if you turn that lazy susan a bit one way then back the other way. What is at center does not move much but the far & near objects go in opposite directions as you oscillate the platform.

Now, as seen in 3D video, if somebody does something really bizzarre with that far microphone and you want to check it out in life your eyes NOW converge on that far location and the car becomes a jumpy object. But if the director's interest remains on the car then your desire to check out that far thing has your eyeballs going nuts. YOUR point of interest won't stop jumping left and right as if you can't converge. You are relying on the convergence of the video system which is not attuned to your new curiosity.

Guess what? This camera does NOT converge. Cold shower time. But the breath of fresh air: to converge really I had to use two cameras that were mounted to control them to converge and which put out a dual video monitoring stream one each with a video marker at dead center and mixed with a video mixer to overlay the two views and keep the two cursors superimposed on the intended object of interest. Both f-stops had to adjust depth of field in unison. Do you know how much junk you need to do that? How heavy all that stuff is?

So they compromised they even tell you this as a big HINT as to how to get nice 3D (withn this unit). Have your subject at 4 to 5 feet away. PERIOD. The camera has an amazingly sharp super depth of field which can make you really sick if you are shooting one thing and somebody far away is doing something distracting. There is no getting near and far out of focus. Everything is in focus. That can make you sick as your eye will wander through all the tid bits but only that fixed spot 4 feet away does not jiggle. The facial recognition, which COULD HAVE been used to focus and converge is not used at all. The lenses are what they are. One fixed point of interest. If you want to be interesting then you have to be at that point of convergence.

So after the birthday party at the gymnasium with kids having a ball on parallel bars, jumping into the pit, skinning the cat, walking the bar .. all in 3D.. how did the begoggled grandparents react that night?

WHOA! THAT'S GREAT! It was a hit. No doubt about it.

Panasonic made compromises, but they enabled the process, with constraints, at a price real people can afford. I can't imagine what the pro 3D camera will cost (which handles all the stuff above). Just don't tell me.

After attaching the 3D lens you lose the function to zoom, take photos. The video quality is not good in 3D.

I bought this Cam only for it's 3D capability, and i am very disappointed.

But I have to mention that as a 2D Cam you have every thing a super quality and features.

This is my fourth camcorder (2 Sony's and 2 Panasonics) and first HD. It is equal to or exceeds my expectations for the picture quality. The audio, from the embedded microphone, is pretty good too. I can't say I'm crazy about having to access so many settings via the touchscreen, but it works. Other reviews have covered the camera adequately, so let me talk a minute about the "deal".

This is virtualy the same camera as the Panasonic TM700, except 1) it has no internal RAM (32GB, worth about $50); 2) it includes the 3D lens and firmware (the MSRP for just the lens is $500); and it supposedly has slightly better image stabilization. The TM700 lists for $1300 and is selling for around $900-1100. The SDT750 lists for $1400 and is selling for $700-800. It looks like the 3D version isn't selling too well (not too many folks have 3D TVs to display it on). So buy the SDT750 even if you don't need/want 3D and get the equivalent of the TM700 at a huge discount. The newer Panasonic camcorders that support 3D don't include the lens, so I'm going to try to sell mine for a couple of hundred dollars, further lessening the real cost.

Want Panasonic HDC-SDT750, High Definition 3D Camcorder Discount?

I'm a professional videographer and I was looking into buying the Panasonic TM900 or TM700 because of its great low light and 1080/60p abilities that are very uncommon at the moment in the camcorder world. Then after researching those cameras I came across a review of the SDT750 and it turns out its almost exactly the same camera as the TM700, the only difference is that it has a slightly better powered stabilization system and it it comes with the 3D adapter. However it also lacks the 16gb of internal memory so you have to buy that separate, but for the difference in price between the 700 and the 750, the 750 is way more value for your dollar. I'm 100% satisfied with this purchase. For those who are looking to do some extensive editing look into Adobe Premiere or Sony Vegas, because right now those are the only two editors that support the 1080/60p format from this camera.

Stealth Cam Skout 7 Triad-Equipped 36 IR Scouting Camera

Stealth Cam Skout 7 Triad-Equipped 36 IR Scouting Camerait is a all around excellent camera to have, good quality video and pictures, the sound oickup is excellent, the only flaw is hooking it up to a PC sometimes it doesnt read through the usb and have to try a couple times for the PC to read the sd card from the camera, other than that i plan on getting another one

This camera is great for my purposes.

I used it for finding wild animals at night, and it worked very well. The range on the motion detector is very impressive, detected a deer at 50+ feet. The infrared flash works to around 40 feet, and is very clear for night photos. The quality is good on images. Video was alright. The battery life was decent. The casing quality was solid and and easy to set up. The settings for the camera were very customizable and easy to apply.

Cons would be slow shutter speed, there were a few images with blurred photos because the animals were in motion. Additionally the video quality was not as impressive.

Great camera for the price, far exceeded my expectations.

Very good camera for the price. It takes excellent pics and video. The battery life is descent on camera mode but it really sucks em down on video mode. I have used it for a whole year in rain, snow, warm weather, and cold weather and i got excellent pics in all of it. Now, i just hope the monster buck i got on camera all year comes back next year because he gave me the slip this year!! Also, the camera is very easy to operate. It is the first one i have ever had and had no problem using it.

My first Stealthcam quit working after six months in the field. I called Stealthcam to try to troubleshoot it and at the third call, I was solicting to buy their latest and greatest direct from them. I explained that I had two other trail cams and specifically asked if there was going to be a problem interchanging SD cards as that was the problem with my first Stealthcam. Wouldn't be a problem I was told. The second week in the field the camera switched itself from the custom setting I'd programmed to time lapse and took 5,000+ pictures of grass and trees. I called Stealthcam to return the camera and get a refund. I got a couple of runaround questions before I was told the 30 day warranty had expired. In my experience, STEALTHCAM DID NOT STAND BEHIND ITS PRODUCT. I have two Bushnells and two Leupolds which perform well.

Sylvania DV5000C-PL Digital Video Camcorder with HD Recording, 8x Optical Zoom, and 2-Inch LCD Screen, PurpleI bought this as an early Christmas gift for my wife. She always wanted one that you could plug right into the computer. She is a music teacher and does a lot of work at our church with the children. You can imagine that at this time of the year she wanted something that she could use to record her plays and musicals with. She loves it and she says the picture is incredible even when displaying it on a smart board at school. It doesn't tell you this in the description but you can even mount this baby on a tripod and also holds a SD card. Cudos to Sylvania and also to amazon for the early delivery!

Infinity IN-USB-2 USB Digital Transcription Foot Pedal

Infinity IN-USB-2 USB Digital Transcription Foot PedalI have had this foot pedal for 3 months now. I am transcribing digital files from my computer and was having to do all the pausing by hand, which made my typing time triple the actual spoken time. I am using the free Express Scribe software with it. Express Scribe automatically recognizes this foot pedal, so there was nothing to install. The only issue I have had is with the ES software which does not recognize the foot pedal after I have shut down my computer. All I have to do is have it reinstall and customize the buttons for my own use. Years ago, I used a tape dictation machine with a foot pedal, so this is like getting my old machine back.

When I ordered, I didn't realize the foot pedal didn't come with the Express Scribe software so uploaded the free software and I was ready to go to work. The item was shipped as promised and arrived well packaged and in excellent condition.

The pedal works perfectly with ExpressScribe which I use for medical transcription. Just what I needed, plug and play!

I used to be an executive secretary and at different points in that career, I used dictation equipment. When asked by my son, a professional engineer, to transcribe some WAV files for him, I agreed to do it on my MacBook. I ordered the foot pedal after doing five (5) reports going back and forth between my DOC screen and the emailed WAV file. this was very time consuming and lent itself to errors.

I searched for a foot pedal and decided this Infinity was the best. I ordered the Infinity USB foot pedal and hooked it up to my MAC and loaded down ExpressScribe. I could not get the software to work. After five days and many emails expressing my frustration with ExpressScribe, I hooked up the pedal to my PC, loaded down and purchased the Express Scribe, and I was up and working within 15 minutes.

The pedal is responsive and the right size for feet and does not float around the floor. It worked great and I was able to cut my time to transcribe to less than half of the time. I highly recommend it to anyone who needs to transcribe files on an IBM-compatible PC. The pedal is supposed to work on the MAC and I'm sure it would if the software was compatible.

Want Infinity IN-USB-2 USB Digital Transcription Foot Pedal Discount?

This pedal works perfectly fine and is much more convenient than key controls. You can download a free software for it, which doesn't expire. It seems a little less responsive than the same brand pedal I have at work but it may be due to the fact that this one is new and it may break in after a while. Overall, a great product!

Sony Walkman Digital Tuning Weather FM/AM Stereo Cassette Player (Silver)

Sony Walkman Digital Tuning Weather FM/AM Stereo Cassette PlayerMy first prerecorded cassette was ELO's first album--that's how long I've been listening to them! We all know the day of cassette recording or playing is long gone; even CD's are considered done in this day of MP3's. However, that doesn't negate the millions, maybe billions, of cassettes that have been sold over the past 30+ years. Cassettes have their faults, but there are so many productions out there that aren't available on any other medium.

I've owned cassette players running $300 'way back in the 80's; these are gone also. The challenge now is to find a portable Walkman-type player that doesn't sound like crap, and that's last longer than a week or so. I came across a number of books on audio cassette at home and wanted to do a re-listen. Only a couple have been converted to CD.

I initially purchased a 'Craig' model for less than $20; it's also sold as a Jensen, a Coby, and various other names on Amazon. It was a piece of crap; see my review under the Coby name. Virtually useless radio because of tuner problems, and a cassette function that ran at whatever speed it felt like. Needless to say, an adventure for the book listener and worthless for music listening.

I came across this very inexpensive Walkman and didn't expect much for the $30 price. Have I been surprised! Now, the photo shown at the top isn't my model, as it has a TV band on it that mine doesn't have. Mine has AM/FM/Weather/cassette. It appears identical to the one shown.

Unlike virtually ever other cassette player I've owned, this one only uses 1 'AA' battery--not 'AAA' as other reviewers have stated. The great thing about this is that not only are 'AA' batteries ordinarily cheaper, but they last longer, too. I expected the battery life to be shorter as the result of only one battery, but I was wrong. Sony states they are using some new technology to extend battery life, and it's true. A decent 'AA' will last around 35-40 hours, and when running on cassette, around 30 hours. This will vary, of course, according to the quality of battery purchased.

Unlike the Coby/Jensen/Craig derivative, this machine uses digital tuning with an LCD readout. The tuner has functioned with complete band accuracy; none of that playing with a stiff little wheel trying to find the best signal. As stated in the item description, there are 33 presets for the radio. I live outside Houston and can't imagine needing 33 stations to store, but I guess it's good for someone. Additionally, the procedure for storing and revising stored stations seems unnecessarily complicated. Probably not for the younger, computer generation, but it does require a lot of steps. I will certainly be retaining the instructions! Actually, it seems equally easy just to set the thing on 'manual' and use the rocker switch to find stations. Regardless, through the included headsets, the sound is equal to those players I've had in the past costing 10 times as much.

The tape loads through the back, not visible on the photo above. It is a dark smoked plastic cover that flips open with a fingernail. The cover contains two little tabs that hold the cassette, then the cover and cassette flip closed to contact the tape heads. Again, much, much less fiddly than the Coby version.

Another advantage for this Walkman over some competitors is that it contains a 'rewind' button. Many players, compact and otherwise, have deleted it over the years. If one is listening to a book or music and needs to re-listen, those units require taking the tape out, flipping it, using the 'fast-forward' button, then reversing the procedure. The convenience of a 'rewind' button can't be overestimated.

I don't think there's any Dolby noise reduction on this machine, but I never liked using it anyway. I prefer a little hiss to the muddy sound of Dolby-B.

The tape mechanism has worked perfectly for me on a bunch of different cassettes, both well-used and new. Some players get touchy with used cassettes, and are weak with the power required. I have no doubt this Sony will weaken with age, but for now works great.

Headsets are an individual choice; I prefer earbuds. However, the included headsets give a fine sound, especially for their price.

One practical benefit of this machine is that there is an LCD battery life indicator included. For those of us who do a lot of listening it saves being stranded.

No doubt the market for these players will continue to contract. I'm thinking of buying another example of this little Walkman because I do have thousands of cassettes I still enjoy. Highly recommended for those shopping.

This is the same item as the FX-290, now with a W added. Only difference is the absence of the TV audio band, which will be irrelevent next February. I ve had three of these walkmans in the past couple of years. One shattered upon impact to the ground. I didn't have the case on it, and with the other two the fast forward button, which I use quite a bit fell off.

That being said, this is probably the greatest walkman I ve owned. The radio cassette player is a dying breed and I m glad to see Sony put out a new version of an old favorite. With 35 hours on one AA battery, this is one of the great values. I still have hundreds of cassette tapes that I have taped from XM the last couple of years, and I still take my walks listening to those. Transferring to a CD is an option, but its too much of a bother. With the belt clip its so easy to just walk listening to a cassette, even though the sound quality is not as good as a CD,but it fits my purposes fine.

With AM and FM and all the presets, and a weather band this is a nice value for $30 and free shipping. I m glad I still have my other two units without the fast forward button. This is becoming a relic, and I want to make sure I have this walkman for some time to come. No MP3 for me. I m satisfied with this unit.

for all of us who insist on using cassette tapes, this is the only one to have. unlike the cheaper models, this one works and it works well and it takes only one AA battery, which for lasts 30+ hours. why I didn't purchase one of these sooner I have no idea. kudos to Sony for keeping them available.

I bought this primarily to listen to language tapes and the unit is more than adequate for that. I was only able to get 2 and 1/2 FM stations--2 clearly, one with interference. The weather stations come in rather weakly. AM didn't come in at all. So if you're looking for a good AM/FM tuner, this isn't it. But if you just want a decent cassette player at a reasonable price this unit is for you.

Purchased the item. Great service from Amazon and it arrived quickly. Product is absolute junk and a waist of money as it will not record with consistency. Perhaps I got a lemon. It will only record between 11 17 seconds, and then stops recording....totally frustrating!!!!!

The advertisement was to good to be true, so don't be fooled by the items advertisement as it does not work. Directions are complete crap and very vague! Went to review the 11 17 second clips that it did record, but could only see 5 seconds of the recording before getting an error message. Used and 8 gig mini HCSD, so size should not be the issue. Very disappointed with the product.

I bought one last week. It arrived very quickly. I tested it immediately after I got it. The manual is very simple. So it took me a while to figure out how to use it. The main problem for this product is that the quality of the acquired image is very very poor. The image is totally blurred, no matter whether the objects are far or close. After I played it for half an hour, I decided to return it.

I took a chance and purchase this item. It was worth it. I am using a 32GB Micro SD card have it set to record @ 5 minutes intervals.

I am very please with this item. I would not recommend for night use due to the fact that the LED light are very bright and would be an distraction to un-coming traffic.

Other than that the quality is not HD but you can't get anything with a better price budget.

I concur with the previous review that camera will stop recording in 15 seconds to 4 minutes depending on Loop setting if the camera sees no motion (this is a separate issue from Motion Detection setting). I spent many hours of trial and error to get around this bug and could not do it. No documentation on Motion Detection and Gsensor setup options. Another example was Loop recording options were 1,2,3 minutes not 5,10,15 minutes as stated in the poorly written manual. I had version 1.00 of the firmware (2012/11/13). Camera has potential; the image quality was good for a $55 camera at all the selectable resolutions. I bet version 2.00 will work. Returned it.

FOR NEWCOMERS TO DVDRs OR THIS BRAND OF DVDR

The 53x Series are standalone units that can record from antenna or cable coax. They also have line inputs so they can record from cable boxes and satellite receivers or copy from VCRs, DVRs, cameras and camcorders.

They're so easy to use they can be operated by the entire family, from kids to timeshifters to gearheads.

Timeshifters can reliably record a bunch of named shows, unattended and with NO tapes or discs.

Gearheads can upgrade their HDD or create an "HDD farm" of multiple 2.5" and 3.5" external (E-SATA) HDDs with unlimited storage, Cable (Analog/Digital) to make sure your DVDR sees and memorizes the unscrambled channels (if any).

2. OMITTED MAKING FRONTAND END-CUTS IN EDIT, Pp 93-94.

Frustrates many new users! In the Scene Delete menu, only REW stops on 1st frame and only PLAY and FF stop on last frame. 2160, 2160A and 513 also had a totally confusing and unnecessary auto-Preview after an End Cut that should be IGNORED. At least the 53x Series doesn't have the confusing auto-preview!

3. MISLEADING RECORDING 16:9 WIDESCREEN AS 4:3, pg 45.

This half-truth has caused more misunderstanding than almost anything else in the manual. It's a "deep" technical subject that didn't need to be there! It HAS TO record a 4:3 aspect pic FRAME because the DVD Std was built on the old 4:3 VHS Std, but the DVD std allows a combo of square/non-square pixels, variable horiz. rez, compression and decompression within that 4:3 frame. THAT'S what allows your HDTV to stretch the "non-square" (rectangular) pixels of a WS image inside that 4:3 frame to natural 16:9 WS aspect. You just need to set this DVDR's Video > TV Aspect to "16:9 Wide" and your HDTV on its "Wide" aspect setting. However, this DVDR's DEFAULT setting for aspect ratio is "4:3 Letter Box" so you have to change that to 16:9 Wide during setup or none of your recordings will be 16:9 WS!

Buy Magnavox up to 620hrs onto 500GB HDD and DVD Recorder with Digital Tuner Watch, Forward, Rewind or Now

I cancelled my satellite (and beloved DVR!) in December 2011 and missed it terribly. Not having it made me a DVD-recording-slave. (Using rewritable DVD's is really a pain after using any kind of DVR, but that's what I've been doing for almost two years. X.X) I was thrilled to learn about this machine. I love this product because there's no monthly fee. It gives me the ability to record programs on a hard drive that I can dub onto different DVD's when I have time. Without this DVR, if I was away from home or asleep and I had more than one show to record, the DVD recorder could do it, but they would both be on the same DVD. This machine solves that little problem.

It would have gotten 5 stars except I have a couple gripes. The down side to this machine is that each recording is 'one unit' and dubbing to DVD is an automatic process that I am not allowed to fiddle with. When I would record from satellite to their paid DVR, I would then play the hard drive version and when laying onto DVD, could eliminate all commercials by pausing recording through them, which saved a lot of DVD space, and I could cram like 19-20 shows onto a single DVD if I didn't care about it looking a little choppy. This unit takes the recording and lays down the whole thing onto DVD in one bite. I can still do the pause thingy, but only if I am there in person to do that during the recording of the show I can't do that later. I'll assume this is a by product from being both machines in one.

That brings me to the second thing I didn't like. DVD's which used to give me 8 hours recording time on the slowest speed on other recorders will only give me 6 maximum hours on this machine. That sucks. I haven't figured out how to get a full 8 hours from a DVD on this machine.

So, 2 hours lost, plus commercials not cut out, that nets me more like 11-12 shows per DVD. Quite a loss. But since it is saving me big bux for not being a monthly service, I'll just buy more DVD's and a few more DVD storage albums. 4 happy stars!! ****

We were trying to find a replacement for our TiVo after moving and had poor antenna reception. It took me 3 weeks to figure out from reading the manual how to program the shows I wanted to record. Then I couldn't figure out how to make it work with the DISH satellite system that we had installed after getting this recorder because our antenna reception was so poor even though I tried to follow the directions from an on-line "techie". It's just tooooo complicated. Then because I was over the 30 days, I cannot even return this. It's not worth even $100 even though I paid $319 for it.

HP Pavilion G6-2235us 15.6" Laptop (2.7 GHz AMD A6-4400M Accelerated Processor, 4GB RAM, 750GB Hard

HP Pavilion G6-2235us 15.6' LaptopI would highly recommend this product. Honestly, I wasn't expecting much with the amount of money I spent on it,and boy, was I surprised. It's nicely built and runs fast. Well done, HP!This is my first Windows 8 PC, it took some time getting used to, but I'm digging the OS so far. Also, I just wanna mention what a bargain it was, it was a whole 30 bucks cheaper than the similar 2210us model which has lower specs. I'm extremely happy with this purchase, worth every penny!

Just ordered, and received this laptop from Amazon. Ordered it on a Sunday morning, and it was sitting at my front door on Tuesday by 11:00 a,m,. Really enjoy my Prime membership. Great job Amazon.

As for the computer itself, I've only had it a few days but it is exactly what I wanted. Not a high performance machine by any stretch but it's no slouch either, A lot of computer for the money. It came with 4GB of RAM and I ordered an additional 4GB memory card which should be in soon and then this machine will be maxed out. Screen view is excellent. Start up is quick after removing some of the crap ware that came with it. After reading all the hate reviews on Windows 8 I was a little leery. Although it is different, I'm beginning to like it. Windows 7 desktop can be brought up easily if desired. Not a gamer or laptop movie viewer so I can't really comment on these aspects. I haven't even tried the optical drive yet; not sure I'll really ever need it. Went 3 1/2 years with the laptop this one replaced and never needed one. I like the looks of it in sparkling black (finger prints will be an issue but easily wiped away). Having the side numeric touch pad is a definite plus on a laptop at this price. This is my sixth HP computer and I 've never had a single issue with the first five which is why I stayed with HP. The only concern I have with this machine, and I might be picky, is that the scrollable mouse pad is very sensitive and can cause you to move you cursor very easily and unexpectedly if touched by accident. I added a wireless mouse to remedy this. For the money I paid I'm a happy camper and see no reason why I can't get many years of enjoyment from the machine

When my laptop bit the dust, I scoured the internet for a replacement looking for the best value. I'm retired, and am very frugal with my money. I read reviews, compared specifications, and came down to about 4 laptops. When I realized one of them was the same brand and model that my daughter was using, that made my decision. My daughter's HP Pavilion is several years old, but working great and she shares hers with her 3 children. It's taken a beating, and still performs. My only worry was the new Windows 8 operating system. Other reviews indicated the operating system was difficult to learn and hard to understand. It looked to me like I had no choice. All new laptops were Windows 8.

The laptop was delivered exactly when Amazon said it would be (they are VERY dependable about delivery!). I opened the box, hooked up the laptop and began copying the data from my old computer. I've had the new laptop for only 4 days now, but so far have not found anything to complain about. I love the touch of the keyboard, and really like the numeric keypad. I'm not a fan of the keyboard mouse, preferring to use the traditional mouse instead, but I've been using the keyboard mouse pad occasionally, and find it less sensitive than others I've used. (My main complaint previously was that even when I didn't want the mouse to move, it would move because my sleeve touched it or something else random brushed against it.) This mouse pad is not smooth, it is a little bumpy, which I think makes it easier to use.

And Windows 8? Yes, it's new, a little confusing but even at my old age, I've managed to adapt to it. I know it hasn't even been a week yet, but I am completely satisfied with this purchase, and pleased with the value for my money.

After 3 solid months of trying to find a computer that was compatible with me, I went back to a brand I have had before, HP. This computer has everything I want and is perfect for me! I know some people have issues with windows 8, but I took a class on it when I bought a doomed Toshiba in December. (Plasma screen cracked in 3 weeks, and no, I didn't drop it, it just happened!) Toshiba refused to refund my money. From the time I plugged this computer in it has worked perfectly. I would recommend this HP to everyone who wants a good, reliable computer!

Philips PD9000/37 9-Inch LCD Portable DVD Player with 5 Hour Battery, White

Philips PD9000/37 9-Inch LCD Portable DVD Player with 5 Hour Battery, White

  • This Philips player comes with a compact built-in rechargeable battery for long-lasting power.
  • The Philips Portable DVD player is compatible with most DVD and CD discs available in the market.

  • The high resolution color LCD display brings images to life, showing off your treasured photos, favorite movies and music
  • Up to 5 hours of continuous movie, photo and music playback

A decent player....you can't be expecting much with a portable DVD player..

Where it stands out?

1) It comes with a 110-240V charger so that makes it really "portable"...I mean you use these not at your home but when you actually travel..

2) It can be made region free...so double points on portability!

Region free hack:

1. Turn on player.

2. Open disc tray.

3. Wait till 'Open' appears on screen

4. Type 9 6 5 3

5. Press up or down button to reach REGION option

6. Press OK button

7. Scroll UP/Down to TEST0 , press OK

8. Press setup again to exit

3) Battery life is longer

4) Gives you some extra inches of viewing than the rest

5) Plays both NTSC and PAL DVDs. I haven't tried that but the specification on Philips' site says

"Video disc playback system: NTSC, PAL"

Check it out:

Though the caption says black color but the white looks smart...so I am happy with that.

Overall a decent player....serves the purpose for what it is meant for....please don't compare the sound or picture quality with a home theater or LCD....it's not that.

Buy Philips PD9000/37 9-Inch LCD Portable DVD Player with 5 Hour Battery, White Now

I've owned this player for a little over a week now and, since it had no reviews here on Amazon, I thought I'd write one up.

I bought this as a bedroom DVD player to replace an Insignia player that was showing its age.

The description says the player is black, however, go by the picture in the listing. The outside is a matte off-white color and slightly textured. The inside is black. The screen is a huge 9 inches (the majority of players I looked at had 7 inch screens) and the video quality is very good. Audio is quite good as well. I have the player on a night stand next to my bed and have no problem hearing anything. It isn't listed in the product description but the player comes with a mounting pouch for use in a car. I don't intend to ever use the player that way, but, I wasn't expecting the pouch so it was a nice surprise when I opened the box. The box says the battery will last 5 hours; I can't really comment on that since I keep it plugged-in. Though I'm sure I'll be happy for those 5 hours during power outages.

Now for the minor quibbles:

When the player is on there is a rather large, bright green light on the front of the player (it lights red when the battery is charging). It doesn't interfere with watching the screen and I got used to it after a few days.

I really wish players like these would have a button on the remote (or on the player itself) for switching between 16:9 and 4:3 aspect ratios (my very first portable DVD player had such a button and I've missed it in every player since). If you're a stickler for watching programs in the correct aspect ratio (like myself) you have to go through the settings menu to make the change. A single button would save several steps.

I also wish that all the manufactures would add volume controls on the remotes.

The AC adaptor was also a little on the short side (probably three inches shorter than the cord for my previous player). It's a minor annoyance only.

Overall, I'm very happy with this player and would give it 4.5 Stars.

This is our 2nd portable DVD player. I was hesitant to purchase one again after so many bad reviews of many different brands. I have delayed purchasing for about 6 months until I found this product. Our Kawasaki player stopped working well after 5 yrs of occasional use and little fingers touching the sensor many times. We use a portable DVD player for trips and sometimes at home.

I'm very pleased with this product. The price is excellent for the quality and screen size. I specifically wanted one that had an AV output to easily hookup to a hotel TV (this is when the remote comes in very handy) and had a memory function. We recently enjoyed a favorite DVD hooked up to our hotel room TV.

Includes:

~ AV cords and remote, although we add an AV extension for hotel TVs.

~ Car charger and car headrest holder.

The elastic bottom part of the headrest holder somewhat covers the on/off button, eject button and stop start buttons though. But it's not too difficult to move. It's not a completely secure holder like the metal attachment kinds are, but it does the job pretty well. I added some masking tape around it to secure more for a long trip. If we used it continually I would opt for a better way to secure it or purchase a player that secured with metal brackets.

~It plays DVDs that I have created.

Note: I specifically won't buy Sony even though it is a quality brand because Sony doesn't allow you to play DVD/CDs that you have created.

~It's a lightweight compared to our old one and has the battery integrated within it.

I haven't used up the entire battery at one sitting yet. But we drove quite a few hours before we realized that the car charger hadn't been plugged in and it was still working well. Our old DVD player lasted a little over 2 hours, so we're glad to have this new one.

~It remembers where you left off YES!

Finally this function is available nothing is more frustrating to a kid than when you pull the car in for gas and the player has to restart the video, because you turn off the car.

~Everything else as far as I can tell functions well.

Headphones work well with it and the sound quality is pretty good as far as portable DVD players go. We hope it will last as many years as our old one.

UPDATE: It's been a year & it's been working great road trips, airlines. Yay!

This player (PD9000/37) is a region free portable 9" wide screen Divx DVD player. It works off the box very nicely. Most control 'switches' and ports i.e power, dvd open, ear phone etc are on the sides. The control buttons (play, stop, forward, menu etc are accesible when you open the screen. The outside is white and when you open it's black on the inside.

The screen is very nice and playing of discs was flawless. I checked DVDs, VCDs and some Divx home videos. All of them played well. If you pop in a divx disc with avi files, it will list directories and/or file and you can highlight the desired file and click play. you can do that with the remote as well. The audio quality is okay. The volume level is fine indoors, may need to use earphones when viewing outdoors. The 9" screen is really better than the 7" ones. Pretty good battery life too.

Worth the purchase!

We've had this dvd player a few months (after trying several others when a fantastic one Polaroid, no lesswe'd had for several years finally wore out). We've been more pleased with it than any others we've tried, but we did have a problem with a very dark screen recently. My five star rating is mostly for Philips customer support... I called about the problem; the tech asked a few questions then said, "OK, if you give me your address, I'll send you a replacement." I had no idea this was even a possibility when I called and was very pleasantly surprised by the cheerful way in which Philips volunteered this product replacement. It's worth the purchase and I don't even mind problems when a company stands by its product.

Olympus VN3100 Digital Voice Recorder

Olympus VN3100 Digital Voice RecorderWhen I went out shopping for a voice recorder I didn't want one that had fancy lights, did backflips, had a taser built in (though that would be cool ;) I just wanted a voice recorder so I wouldn't forget my thoughts during the day. I have a very bad memory and I knew that if I could speak my thoughts rather than writing them I could remember much more of what I wanted to remember.

So I started here at Amazon. The reason I started at Amazon was because they have the widest selection of anything anywhere. (in my own personal opinion) After looking at a few different ones I decided an Olympus would be my best bet. I have always had a great time with Olympus and have never ever had a problem with it. I was not disappointed!

The device itself weighs in just about 65 grams and is 4x1.5x11/16 (LengthxWidthxDepth in inches) It is literally palm sized and fits comfortably in my hand (though I have a bigger hand than most people) It has an internal mic and speaker both of which are adequate for any atomsphere. Most audio-philes would not be happy with the sound quality but be not discouraged, it records clearly anything that is spoken. In the Menu it also gives a choice of recording in high or low mic, as well as sound quality of XHQ, HQ, SP, and LP. It also sports a mic and headphone port for you to use external equipment with it.

The interface is very easy to use and fairly intuitive. There is a hold switch on the left side for locking it and turning it off, a battery charge level in the upper right hand corner, and an easy to read lcd screen. It has four folders (A,B,C,D) for easy organization and each recording records the date and time when it was recorded. When in hold the only thing that it'll show if you press any button is the date and time. (it can show 24 clock as well)

This unit does not sport a usb port for connection to your computer (hence the pc absent from the model number) and actually comes in a silver finish not the blue one. One thing that irked me but is not much of a problem was that it has a strap hole but does not come with a strap. It is an accessory that can be bought from Olympus.

All in all this is a wonderful product and is actually fairly cheap for the features that it packs. For those with bad memory it is a life saver as well. I would recommend this product to anyone who wants to record anything from thoughts to speechs.

I tried to save a few bucks and bought the VN3100. It is doing a great job for me. I have no complaints on the quality of the unit, hence my rating of 4 stars.

I am using it simply for reminders throughout the day. Its much easier to record my thoughts than trying to remember them all. I am an architect and many ideas come and go during the day. The VN3100 is excellent for quick capture.

My regret was triggered by several recordings I made of my two boys (2 and 5 years old). We have been playing around and I have several recordings now that I would love to save. Without any way to download the files to my PC, they will need to remain on my recorder forever.

I recommend that anyone considering the VN3100 upgrade to a recorder with a download feature. You never know what you will record that you will want to keep forever.

I've had this recorder for a number of months now, and I'm using it to recorder interviews that I am using for my thesis. While the recording quality itself is fairly good, I am extremely irritated that the buttons themselves aren't really set up very well. For example, I am transcribing the interviews, and so I am constantly replaying parts of the recording. If you don't press the button exactly in the right spot, you end up, instead of forwarding backward or ahead, going all the way to the beginning of the track and losing your spot. For obvious reasons, this can be extremely infuriating. I've had it do this a good 20 times at least, and then have to try to find where I was. It's caused a loss of efficiency that I think is unacceptable.

So, if you don't mind inefficiency and having to spend a lot of time forwarding and going back and subsequently losing your spot, then it's great.

Chris provides a very useful review, which gave me the confidence to order a couple of these recorders for mental notetaking. i too need a digital short term memory

like Chris, the reviewer, i just want a vanilla digital voice recorder without all the undelivered promises of the higher end machines. i've bought and returned a couple of other higher end recorders and i'm ready to settle for a lot less.

most importantly, this recorder is so much easier to learn how to use than the others.

now, my major problem is to remember: 1. to have the recorder with me and 2. to use it before the target thought vaporizes into thin air.

recording fleeting thoughts is a lot like taking photographs of UFOs.

and you certainly cannot beat amazon's price on this unit !!!!!!!!

Underwater Waterproof Digital Camera, Has only 8MB built-in memory (No External Memory slot), Compa

Underwater Waterproof Digital Camera, Has only 8MB built-in memory, Compatible with Windows 98/2000/ME/XP ONLY. NO LCD ScreenMe and my husband bought this camenmra for our vacations to punta cana.we read all reviews on how expensive cameras failed at being water resistant and we decided to go for the cheapest digital camera (eveeer) and it worked !!! We sunk it when swimming with sharks dolphings and marine lions :D and all our pictures and videos are great. When we released it under water it didn't sink it floated back to surface jajaja tip test the software in various laptops before traveling it didn't work on our newer windows versions we had to find an old laptop with the x p to backup our pic while traveling

This camera wont work with some windows like "vista" but does work with windows xp. It is very easy to install the software and upload pictures. I paid $23 plus free shipping. Not bad for the price but the LCD screen is a bit diffucult to read. The pictures are'nt as clear as you would expect from a digital camera but it survived the water. This uses AA batteries not a charger. If you want clear high quality photos this is not the camera for you but it does take ok photos.

I bought this camera looking to experiment with taking some fun photos in the pool or at the beach. While I clearly knew that this camera was not going to be of high quality, as evident because of the price and just general look, it was still a waste of money. I tried it out in the pool, excited to upload the pictures to the computer. After just my first try, I already found myself having problems. Most of the photos would not upload and had appeared to have been deleted, or possibly never even taken. I thought I was doing something wrong, until I later realized that the shutter button itself was not fully working. While it would appear and feel as if I took a photo, the camera wouldn't register or capture the image. However, OCCASIONALLY a photo would be processed, but it was extremely inconsistent and of such low quality that it wasn't even worth the frustration or time. I actually ended up losing the cord to connect the camera too, another part of this product that was difficult. There's not memory card or batteries, it just has a card to the computer that you use for charing and transferring the few photos you may have taken. Not to mention, the battery life was terrible; lasting only an hour or less.

In summary, it has now been two years since I bought this camera and I am still regretting the purchase. I have returned to Amazon again to buy a REAL underwater camera for the summer. I just wish that I wouldn't have bought this piece of plastic, and had put this money towards a functional underwater camera.

I really like my camera phone that was water proof better, but if gave way. I really didn't care for this all that much. My kids barely used it the entire summer.

Xtreamer Ultra 2 DELUXE HTPC - Home Theater PC Includes: 32GB SSD Preconfigured with XBMC on OpenEl

Xtreamer Ultra 2 DELUXE HTPC - Home Theater PC Includes: 32GB SSD Preconfigured with XBMC on OpenElec, USB 3.0, Gigabit LAN, Built-in Wifi & Bluetooth!I made the mistake of purchasing this device directly from the manufacturer. When it finally arrived, I soon found out that the ethernet port wasn't working (and what good is an HTPC if it can't be connected to the network?!) The only option to contact them is via web-chat. After two tries, somebody finally instructed me to open a return request, which I did. After not having heard back from them after more than a week, I wrote to ask about the status. The brief email that followed was harsh and they suggested I read their returns policy (which is hidden deep inside their site) and that it will take "up to 10 business days" to get the return approved. Of course, after two whole weeks I still hadn't heard back from them. After having written another mail, I finally received word that I will have to ship the item to HONG KONG and that I would have to pay a restocking fee in case I want a refund!!! This is really incredible! I want to warn everyone out there not to buy anything from this company!! The product is lousy and the support is non-existent.

I bought Xtreamer Ultra 2 Deluxe more than a month ago from UK. It comes with beta XBMC openelec software.

The XBMC as many of might know, has an excellent interface with so many options.

The problem is that this device failed to do what it is intended for playing movies!!! I have 1080p MKV movie files and this device failed to play them smoothly from my gigabit server, and even from usb-3 and usb-2 drives. I haven't tried 720p MKV files. So, for sure this device has a buffering problem even it comes with massive 4GB rams and, I assume, good video card.

I tried so many other version of XBMC software, Frodo, Ubuntu, and many. Still fails.

Also, cooling is another engineering failure of this device. It heats alot because the air flow is not properly thought of.

For continues play of movie files (one after another), there is no way, but to use the keyboard. I tried my best but couldn't figure it out.

Xtreamer forum is full of those who bought Ultra 2 seeking help with no results. The forum administrators and experts, and support services, will keep telling you that this is a PC! Which means that you HAVE to install windows 7, use the device as a PC, and play movies from there. In their advertisement, they say you can use the device and "Enjoy watching your media files" OUT OF THE BOX, while windows is just an option. However, after you buy it, they will tell you have to install windows if you want to watch HD movies. This means you go and buy windows 7 and try! maybe it will work.

I highly recommend not to buy this device until it comes with proper firmware/software, and not this poor beta version that causes alot of stucks, not allowing audio through HDMI, not able to watch HD movies, and many other technical issues that the people in the forum are complaining about.

Buy Xtreamer Ultra 2 DELUXE HTPC - Home Theater PC Includes: 32GB SSD Preconfigured with XBMC on OpenEl Now

I bought this product for two reasons:

1) I didn't want to tinker with drivers, search hardware components, build my own device, read forums, etc.

2) I wanted a well supported and open media center, to address future codecs, add-ons, new builds, etc.

Ad 1)

yes, you get a fully assembled device with everything packaged in a compact box. It looks fancy, I like the style.

OpenELEC is compiled for Xtreamer Ultra 2. I got it working well and I got frequent updates from OpenELEC. The fan is a bit noisy, I would expect a passive cooling device though, without a fan. Also, you cannot expand the box, you need to connect your DVB-T or DVB-S/S2 to a USB port.

Ad 2)

I connected the device to my Hitachi HDMI 1.3 TV. It worked well, except that every 15-20 minutes I got a gap in my audio and sometimes video. The audio was jerky and I used the device for several months without a solution. Why? Because Xtreamer's support is non-existent. I wrote them several times and got no response whatsoever. Their support web-site is locked, you need to get a username and password (why? to search read forums?). However you cannot request a new username/password. Their web site is not working anymore.

Finally, I fixed it myself, reading posts on forums, I reconfigured my audio. This is exactly what I didn't intend and want to do. Now everything works flawlessly.

My verdict? I paid premium for a good device, but their lack of support completely undermines this great device. Xtreamer they have great marketing with all the bells and whistles, but when it comes to customer support, don't expect anything.

Think of other products with passive cooling, like Arctic. Check forums for good support.

The headline summaries the drawbacks I have for this box.

Pro:

Remote, 32GB SSD and 4G RAM.

Con:

I used it only for streaming so I need as fast as networking as possible, that means 802.11n 5G supports. I have 4 WiFi routers, all support 5G so I used it to cover every floors of my house for streaming videos. I have three of them 802.11n 5G only and one 802.11 mix 2.4G.

I have a lot of Wifi devices: iPad, iPhones and Galaxy S2, two Touchpads, four laptops, smart TVs and AppleTVs and a smart Thermostat etc. Only my iPhone 4 and thermostat does not support 5G and I did not expect a 1 year old Xtreamer Ultra 2 does NOT support 5G.

I use OpenElec 2.99.1 so I don't know whether this is due t OpenElec or the device itself.

2. The box is too BIG and can not stand up right inside my entertainment console so I have to lay it down and the charger is too big with EU adapter.

3. Plastic makes it looks cheap.

Considering it is only $160 different from a much better looking, smaller and faster Mac mini, I think the drawbacks make it not very worth $400.

Updated: after near one month, I decided to return it. It is a capable HTPC, but it is just too big, plastic and the remote did not work properly with XBMC, the only purpose I used it for and it did not support 5G 802.11n.

excellent product because it runs full hd video without any problems, besides being quiet and fast. advise paenas lead to a person empowered to configure windows on it if you do not want to use Linux. the only problem is the control that used the windows all the keys do not work, but is there a way to configure.
