This isn't a super in depth review, but will give you more info that most will in a fairly brief summary:

First off, I am a Sony TV guy who bought TWO Panasonic Blu-Ray players last year due to their seeming superiority(reviews, pro and online stores).

First step for any modern electronic device, update your firmware. My initial update took over 5 minutes. I also recommend registering at internet.sony.tv as in the past some Sony products won't connect to certain services until you do. I connected to AmazonVideo on Demand and Netflix, BEFORE I registered it, so they may have responded to complaints and dropped the requirement, but incase there is a service that require it get it out of the way, it only takes a minute if you have a Sony account already

Netflix app(they upgraded! Sony fans rejoice!):

One glaring fault with (past/pre-2012?) Sony visual products is their Netflix app, as for years Sony decided to have a proprietary interface, and if you have researched it, a LOT of people had Netflix streaming issues. I guess Sony finally took note, as the new interface is like a across between the Wii interface and the Panasonic interface, as in it looks like you avgerage Netflix app now. I watched the Norwegian film TrollHunters, and it took about 15-20 seconds to load the movie, 10 seconds for the Netflix stream to stabilize to the bandwidth( this is mostly on Netflix's end I believe), with the unit 10 feet from my router. For the entire movie, it never reloaded or refreshed, or froze, and was in 1080 with 5.1 sound. I also paused the movie and rewound several times with no reload or delay. Truly the smoothest Netflix experience I have had yet on any of my devices. If your getting the S590 I assume this will be important to you. And yes, it has a dedicated Netflix button, and the app loads faster than my Wii or Panasonic Blu Ray players, and my Sony TV's, so I assume they have "fixed" it, but I haven't done a lot of viewing yet.

Blu Ray performance:

Another reviewer said it won't play Disney movies, but I didn't have a problem, more later. First I put in the Star Trek (2009) Blu Ray, which has great visual beginning. I didn't have any performance issues that I could tell, and the menus are VERY fast and responsive, almost to a fault as there was a bit of shutter on the pop up menu, but unless you watch the movie with the pop up constantly going up and down I don't see this as a big issue. It was roughly 30 seconds from hitting the eject button to close the tray to the Paramount intro screen going, not bad.

I then tried a 3D Disney Blu Ray (Tangeled, a true Disney made film), as one reviewer had said Disney BR does not work. Seeing as how this player is VERY new( a few weeks to a month on market), My guess is there was a firmware issue, disc issue, or user issue. That said, Tangeled played flawlessly in 3D as I skipped around chapters trying to cause an issue, but it all worked great.

Also, this player, in my opinion, works very fast when skipping chapters or loading a scene from menu, where some playera seem to pause or lag. It was also quick to fast foward and "rewind", with little to no pause when hitting the button. A noticeable leap over my 2011 model panasonic bdt-220.

Network set-up:

As usual for modern Sony products, if you have a WPS router, took roughly 2 minutes, from the time I started the set up on the TV, walked to my router in the next room and hit the WPS button, and then walked backed to tell the TV to begin connecting.

The Media Remote app for Android worked very well, but you must first go to the settings menu on the TV and scroll down to the Media remote section, and "register"(aka activate, a button push) the feature(an unnecessary step IMO but I guess they are worried about people with an unprotected router have their TV taken over by pranksters?).

Now some people are complaining about build quality. It's true it doesn't feel as sturdy at the Panasonic Players I bought last year, but is by no means flimsy. Unless you are planning on dropping it regularly, or letting your dog chew on it, I don't see a problem with this. It does look nice, with a brushed metal "look" on the case.

As with seemlingly EVERY Blu Ray player, it does not come with an HDMI(which baffles me, it isnt expensive to make a high quality HDMI cable, don't get fooled by the HDMI cable prices).

6-Month Update

I have now owned this product for 6 months. If I were to again compare it to the Panasonic's , although they are a generation older, the Sony absolutely blows them away. It loads movies faster, it streams Hulu and Netflix faster, it updates firmware MUCH faster, and I have not had any streaming or Blu Ray video problems at all.

I have encountered one issue, but won't change my rating. On Fast Boot mode, while the boot is nearly instant, I did encounter an odd issue where it boots itself. If you have your TV HDMI control function, it will turn on the TV also. It's a bit unnerving when you are asleep and you are awoken by your TV turning on and seeing a Main menu. This COULD be an HDMI control issue with my TV though. There are two ways to solve it: Turn off fast boot(it's still much faster than most Blu Ray players), or turn off HDMI control so it can't turn on your TV itself. Also, while some Sony TV's do not, this player will also auto zoom/strech the screen when you are watching a 4:3 format video on netflix, to fit your widescreen, so there aren't any bars on the side. I know many people want to use every inch of their TV screen.

Also, Sony has been fairly quick lately to keep the Internet Video Apps up to date/ recent versions, So no TiVo-style glacier slow Internet Application User Interface updates to worry about.

This is a awesome Streamer/Bluray/DVD player. I haven't experienced any issues whatsoever playing back Bluray disks. Boot times are very good with the disks I tested. Everything played back perfectly with stunning picture quality. However, I really purchased this player for its streaming abilities. Sony players were dinged in the past for a poor Netflix experience. Sony have fixed this with a updated Netflix interface that supports 1080p and Dolby Digital+ streams. Similarly Amazon VOD supports Dolby Digital bitstream audio, and VUDU and HULU+ are unchanged from the 2011 players, but work fine. Its also nice to have "crackle" on there so you can watch the odd Seinfeld episode when you fancy.

I also tested the player with a DNLA server. Sony seem to recommend Serviio (free) so I think they must test the DLNA features of the player with this software. I tested photos, music and video and everything played back perfectly.

Anyway, a great streamer/disk player. Highly recommended !!

Had a need to play a Disney BD disk on this player the other day. A comment here suggests that Disney BDs won't play. Complete nonsense. They playback perfectly.

Sony added support for watch lists with the amazon Vod app.

I've been looking for a Blu-ray player for awhile now and my purchase was delayed a bit due to so many conflicting feedback entries over products. I finally decided to go with a brand I trust, Sony, that had the features I was looking for and just see what happens. The S590 is 3d capable, but I have no interest in 3d and that is why I do not address it in my review.

Out of the box the player is a bit plasticy. (Is that a word?) Yes it feels a little cheap, but on the upside it is light and matches my other equipment. I don't need a Blu-ray player that is built like a tank. After all, it is just going to sit there on my media shelf playing movies. I don't get why people complain about it. Do they take their players mountain biking with them? So yes, the case is plastic, but I could not care less. One important note, an HDMI cable is not included with the unit, so be sure to have one if you want an HDMI connection.

I plugged in the player via HDMI and turned it on. First thing I established a wireless connection so I could update firmware. My router, in the next room, was seen immediately, along with routers from neighbors. I entered my password and was connected. Next, I updated the firmware. That took less than five minutes to do. Amazon Prime connectivity was next, then Netflix. No issues at all. I then decided to stream an Amazon Prime movie, Mission Impossible 3, as it is hi-def and I wanted to see what performance was like. The movie started up within 30 seconds, I saw I was getting between 8.4 and 10.2 megabits per second. The picture was clear and smooth. Over the weekend we streamed from Amazon Prime and Netflix and were very happy with the speed of connection and quality of video and sound.

I also tried playing Blu-Ray and DVD movies, both with no issues. I did not time how long it took to get a movie playing, but I can (very unscientifically) say that it was faster than what I have seen with several units. Everything played as expected.

Boot up time is acceptably fast. I chose the slower boot process as I don't want the player in standby mode all the time. When I turn the player on, I am able to choose what I want to do in about 15 20 seconds. More than acceptable.

Overall, I am extremely happy with the player. It is responsive, boots quickly and has handled my needs, (Blu-Ray disks, DVDs, Amazon Prime and Netflix.) I have not tried other features, so I can't speak to them. Given my experience, I would expect they would work as advertised, but you never know until you try them.

If I have friends looking for a Blu-Ray player, I won't hesitate to recommend the S590!

In April I decided that although I loved my LG blu-ray player for Netflix and watching blu-rays, I wanted a new player that would let me watch Amazon streaming and have an updated and easier to use Netflix interface. My old player worked perfectly for what it did, I just wanted something that did more.

First, based on my great experience with my LG player, I ordered the LG BD670. I liked the interface, liked how it played blu-rays, loved that I could search Netflix from the blu-ray player itself (the old player would only let you view your queue and a few of the specific categories that it chose, you had to go to another device if you wanted to search or even browse beyond that) and I loved Amazon streaming. But it did not play Netflix well: during the course of pretty much anything I'd try to watch, whether it was a 2+ hours movie or a twenty minute tv episode, it would lose the sound and have stuttering picture for anywhere between a few seconds to several minutes. After less than two weeks I contacted Amazon and sent it back. I put my old blu-ray player back and it worked with no problems, for Netflix and blu-rays both.

Then, based on glowing reviews, I tried the Panasonic DMP-BDT220. Initially it seemed great. I liked it even more than the LG. Then it started having connection issues. Actually, it started having connection issues the first day, but I didn't realize right away that it was going to be a *constant* problem. There was not one day that it did not lose the internet connection. Granted, where it was set-up is as far away from my wireless router as it can be while the two devices are still the house, so some connection issues are understandable, but it would lose connection when nothing else in the room it was in had lost their connection and beyond that even, it would not reestablish its connection until I'd cycled it off and on, sometimes several times. I really wanted it to work, since when it was working, I loved it. I did not contact the company, in fairness, so I cannot say if they could have helped me or comment on their customer service. I did check online reviews and message boards and found that I was not alone in having internet connection issues with it. I tried some fixes that were posted but nothing worked. I read more than one person complaining that they *had* contacted Panasonic and were told that the wireless in the player just wasn't that strong, and the only real cure for connections issues was to move the player closer the router. That wasn't an option for me so, incredibly frustrated, after almost a month of it, I contacted Amazon and sent it back. Again I put my old blu-ray player back and it worked with no problems.

Finally, as a last resort, I tried this player, the Sony BDP-S590. Tentatively, hesitantly, I would say it *seems* I've found my player. I admit, I held off on the Sony because it was more expensive than the LG, and at least at the time I was first looking, the reviews weren't as good as for the Panasonic. But for me, it's working. It sits where the Panasonic sat (and where the LGs sat) and doesn't have any connection issues except when there is genuinely an interruption that is affecting everything else that's connected to the router--and even then as soon as the router is doing its thing again, all I have to do is hit "Retry" and the player is connected again, no turning it off and on repeatedly. It has no problem playing Netflix, or Amazon streaming, or Crackle, or Youtube, or good old blu-rays. I appreciate that it's got the only remote that actually controls my not-that-old Toshiba tv, which isn't a big deal, but it's nice. I'm not an audiophile or videophile or whatever, so I can't comment on the technicalities of the sound or picture; it sounds and looks fine to me. The loading times aren't long enough that I get impatient, but I'm not the sort of person who times those things as long as they aren't long enough to make me take notice.

As far as I'm concerned, if you just want to watch stuff, it works. And if you have any sort of distance constraints on where you can place it (like if you don't want to/can't put it in the same room with the router) this is your best bet. I waited to write this review, paranoid after the first two blu-ray players, but after about a month of this, I'm still pleased with it.

At this point, I have made the rounds. I first bought a refurb Panasonic BDT210, thinking the black flashes would be fixed. They weren't. Sent it back. Then, I ordered a Panasonic BDT220. Very nice player with great picture and sound quality, and excellent streaming. Problem was there was a soft, distinct, rhythmic, gulping sound when playing discs, especially with DVDs. Exchanged it for another. The second machine had wireless connection issues. Return it rather than face a headache. Heard really good things about the BDP S390 and 590. Skeptical at first since I have been a diehard Panasonic player fan. Hooked up the Sony. Smooth as silk setup with wireless. No problem at all. Zip, zip, zip. That made me instantly happy. Very user friendly. Quiet player too. Not silent, but no disturbing sounds. Then there was the picture quality. Wow. The Panny is great, but the 590 is photographic. Beautiful picture. Great sound as well. Quick disc loading (though the Panny may be an insignificant touch quicker). Excellent streaming with a fine picture (extra hi/HD even with wireless). Navigating apps is smooth and quick. Amazon's user interface could use some tweaking when it comes to search and selection, but I get my Prime movies with no issues. I can't comment on USB and external files because I don't use them. The PQ on this player along with the smooth and friendly user interface got me to such a degree, I ended up ordering a second one for my other TV. I'm very happy with how things turned out. It's been a long haul, but Sony gets an A+ from me on this player.

Please note: Updating the firmware on this player can take a few minutes. It's quicker when the player is hard wired. The player has to be turned on again after the update is completely finished. Also, Sony customer support was friendly, responsive, and helpful when I called asking about the update. :) Panny needs to improve the quality of their customer service. Rather cut and dry in my experience.

My girlfriend and I both purchased these for our iPad2's at the same time and they both have held up through our daily use and fit perfectly in our backpacks. Even though this product doesn't say it's meant for iPad or iPad2 they still fit them perfectly and with the front zipper on the outside you can put your USB dock/charger cable along with the wall outlet charge adapter, a stylus, and even the HDMI output convert cable for iPad2's all inside of this little pouch without even filling it still. The inside of both the front pocket and the inside pocket have a very soft lining that protects it's contents and with the outside also a soft padding it will not scratch anything it's laying up again (for instance inside of a backpack). There isn't anything bad to say about this case! We both love it and we probably will not be buying a new case for the life of our iPad2's and beyond because there is no need for another external case.

I was really hoping this switch would work with my application. It was nice and small. It had a separate power source and IR receiver and came with 5 HDMI cables. However, I just couldn't get it to work with my Directv receiver. It worked with my pc and HDMI monitor, but would not work at all for my Directv. I'm disappointed. Now I've got to find something else to try.

I like very much their auto switch. It's may delay your TV input changing from HDMI to other input (bacuase TV still searching for that input) when this switch is off. I don't think I need to spend a lot money for other switch. This one is good for a very little money.

Livescribe Pulse Pro Charging Cradle

This is a nice accessory to have for the LiveScribe Pulse Pen. It's much more desk friendly than the USB dock that comes with the pen. It's very stable and the pen docks easily. All you have to do is drop the pen into the dock (assuming it is facing the right direction) and it docks, transfers your data, and starts charging. It has a sleek, attractive design. The bottom is covered with a "grippy" rubber surface to keep it from sliding around. Unlike the standard dock there is no ink cartridge removal tool. It would also be nice if it had a place to store an extra ink cartridge or two, but does not.

It comes with the dock, standard USB cable, plus an AC adaptor so you can charge your pen if your PC is turned off, or if you are not near a PC. Using the AC adaptor is optional though. The pen will charge, if the PC is on, via the USB connection.

I do think this is a little pricey given what you get. Unfortunately there are no third party docks/chargers at the present time so you are forced to buy the LiveScribe ones. They price this knowing this is your only option.

Despite the price, and a few gripes, overall I'm please with the product, glad I bought it, and can recommend it.

I wish they had put the USB connection on the other side, or gave the option to wrap it around. I feel like its backwards to the way you would have a pen sit in a holder (i.e. the pen should tilt towards you with the cable going out the back it is the opposite)

UPDATE: i'll amend my above review to 4 stars and say that after using it for a while, it actually does make sense the way they designed it. It is also nicely weighted (could be even heavier IMO), so it is pretty much a one-handed operation. I now keep this one on my desk, and take the one that came with the pen with me in my bag when I travel for recharge & sync.

My friend got this product when her old charging cradle stopped working. Overall, it does what it's suppose to do, but doesn't seem like a necessary upgrade unless your regular charger broke of something.

Pros:

Heavy, sturdy construction

Comes with the wall charger, which is pretty much the only true upgrade. However, I can't think of too many scenarios where I need to charge my pen, but is no where near an usb

With the original charger, it's kind of easy to accidentally tip the pen over (this doesn't happen often though). This charger is very hard to tip over, but that's really the only other "upgrade" I can think of

It's sleek and cool looking and displays the pen nicely (if you like showing off your Smart Pen)

Cons:

It's not very portable because of weight (much easier to carry original one around)

The fact that it's heavy and not worth carrying around kind of defeats the purpose of a wall charger

Probably easier to get a wall-to-usb converter and carry the original charger around

It is expensive. The few upgrades don't really justify the price tag

Ectaco C-Pen. 3.0 Multilingual Handheld OCR Scanner Pen

As a scholar who works with books and other printed sources a lot, I have long been on the lookout for an easy way to scan text into my laptop. I've tried using both flatbed scanners and digital cameras for this purpose, but I've found both to be awkward and time-consuming. That's why I was pleased to discover the C-Pen 20 it's not perfect, but it does the job quicker and more easily than any of the alternatives.

PROS:

It's easy to use; you just press the pointer to the page and a light comes on to let you know that the sensor is active. You then sweep the C-Pen from left to right at moderate speed as if it were a highlighter, and it converts the text on the page into electronic characters on your computer.

The text instantly appears wherever the cursor on your screen is located, so you can use this device with just about any Windows program (e.g., Word, Access, etc.).

The recognition rate is higher than I thought it would be; it's better than 99% on book-sized text. In practical terms, this means that you'll get one or two errors on average per paragraph, but these flaws are easily corrected (particularly if your spell checker highlights them for you automatically).

It's small and easily portable, so you can take it with you to libraries and archives with a laptop.

CONS:

The character recognition is sometimes thrown off by underlining and other marks on the page.

You must use it with a PC or laptop that has a USB port (it doesn't run on batteries like some scanning pens).

Even though it recognizes just about every major language written in Latin, Cyrillic, or Greek letters, it can't handle older typefaces (like German Fraktur). It also has trouble recognizing some symbols (such as footnotes).

You have to scan each line of text one at a time, so it's not necessarily the best solution if you need to copy many pages of text.

The bottom line is that the C-Pen 20 has been an excellent investment for me, and I recommend it to anyone who's looking for an easy way to transfer printed text into an electronic medium.

UPDATE (2011):

I wrote this review almost five years ago. I continue to think highly of this product despite the occasional error, I'm still amazed at how accurately it reads text most of the time. I only have two caveats to add:

1) The original grey and beige C-Pen 20 doesn't work with newer 64-bit versions of Windows, only 32-bit ones. This is tricky if you bought your PC or laptop in the past two years or so, you may be running a 64-bit version of Windows without realizing it (they both look the same to a non-technical user). You can check which version you have by going to Control Panel and selecting "System" it should say "32-bit" or "64-bit" under "System Type." If you have a 64-bit copy of Windows, you'll need to buy the newer C-Pen 3.0 or 3.5, or else see if you can find a black C-Pen 20 (which is also 64-bit compatible).

2) Digital cameras and OCR (optical character recognition) technology have improved dramatically over the past few years. If you need to scan multiple pages of text into electronic form, a digital camera and a good software program (Finereader or Omnipage) might be a better alternative. For saving snippets of text, however, the C-Pen continues to be the best solution.

I am a bit of a scanning pen fanatic. I write papers and use them to collect research data. That is why I was excited to see that C-Pen (the best scanning pen manufacturer) had come out with a new model (the first in several years). My expectation was that this model would be far better than the C10 (the previous USB scanner) given the advance in technology since its release. I was pretty disappointed overall. This model is no quicker than the C10 and no more accurate. The software does not do as good a job as the C10 and it is not uncommon to have the pen miss an entire line of text. This is particularly important since I am often scanning very rapidly and don't take time to look up at the screen to see that the text is entered correctly.

Overall, not as good as the C10 (which I would give 4 stars), but better than the Iris Pen Executive (2 stars).

Please also note that this pen does not work with Mac computers (the only USB pen that does is the Iris Pen).

I feel completely compelled to write this review for the C-Pen 20. It far exceeds my expectation. I am a graduate student, working on a doctorate at Harvard University. It is a tool, or better yet, a weapon that has reduced my time tremendously. I wish I had it while going through my master's program.

I would say that it is about 90% accurate right out of the box without any training. I have had it about 3 weeks now, and with improved technique, I have increased its accuracy to about 95% 97%. I have found it helpful to always perform the stroke left right. It is easier for 2 reason, 1) that is the way humans read and 2) you don't have to readjust the position of your hand.

I would recommend it to anyone who has to do research, or persons who are in a profession where previous documentation is necessary.

I am a money manager in NYC. I probably read over 150 pages of research everyday. In order for me to track ideas and not forget things it is important for me to have some sort of method to organize this information overload. My first purchase was the IRIS Executive pen. It did a horrible job of converting written text into MS WORD, the error rate was over 50% and made the task of cleaning it up twice what it would of been if I just decided to type it. I returned it within 5 days. I went ahead and purchased the C-PEN (with a return policy). What a Difference! I can run through 100 pages of research and condense it into 2 pages with minimal errors. Not only does it create legible conversion (over 90%) but once you lift the pen it creates a space for you..(no need to hit a button on pen) This is probably the only one that should be invested in, they have the idea and technology down pat. C-PEN has made my life easier!

in a general sense, this c-pen seems OK, but:

there shouldn't be too much light (this is a problem especially at night time, i.e. under a bulb)

you shouldn't expect too much accuracy; i'm using it for Turkish texts and the overall accuracy is around 80%.

quality of the book also effects the result

tables and figures can't be scanned, of course

and finally, you've to be connected to your computer during operation.

Yet, i'm happy with this thing. It reduces the labour necessary to extract large amounts of text. Could be useful especially for PhD students.

The only reason I purchased this stereo is because of its old school looks, just like an old vintage radio. But it has so much more than before, and can do sooooo much. I can play my old record players, even 78RPM vinyls, I can use my old cassettes, I can jack in my iPod, use CD's, or just use an AM/FM radio. Wow, how much more could you ask for. But what is really neat is that it sounds as good (better) than it looks. I put it on my shelf, and it just accents the room. Try one out, look for yourself.

I got this turntable to review and it's great. Loved the look as soon as I took it out of the box. It's got a great retro, vintage feel that fits my style and is definitely a popular look right now. It's lightweight but doesn't feel cheap. Easy to move around until I found the perfect spot in my living room. The set up was really easy too just plug it in and you're ready to go.

I love that I finally have one system that plays all the different music I own. I like to listen to music on vinyl and it sounds great. I can also play my CDs or the radio. The tuner is very nice, lots of stations came in clear. Some I had never heard before. I don't have any tapes right now so I'm still waiting to try out the cassette player. When's the last time you could play cassettes?! I have a box from high school in my parents basement that I'm going to dig out. Aux connect is feature I'll use a lot. I plug my phone in all the time to listen to Spotify. It will also be good for parties. I have a lot of friends who are musicians.

Coolest feature is the ability to make MP3 versions of your CDs and vinyl. I've recorded all my vinyl to MP3 so now I can take them with me anywhere. I still prefer the real thing when I'm at home but it's awesome to have some of my old music on my phone now. I like to hike and be outside so I was really happy about that.

I am going to jump to the more important aspect first. For an oddity stereo, it sounds GREAT! I have a bunch of old 78's that my mom past on to me, some from way back to the 20's, and this will play them all. Then when I am playing them I can send them to the cassette player to record, or feed them to the USB stick, so I can replay them digitally. One thing I don't like is if the LCD is closed and recording and you pull out the cigarette lighter power, the unit shuts off (even if the battery of the camera is fully charged). If the LCD is in the open position and you unplug the cigarette lighter, the battery in the unit keeps running and recording. It has good definition, but I'm not sure why when I use a 32gig Micro SD card with adapter it keeps shutting off. It won't work with a 64 gig sd card. I have found the 16 gig standard SD card works and at 1080p resolution will hold just about 2 hours of video before it starts to record over itself. I'm going to try a 32 gig SD card and see if it will work and give me more recording time. The lower resolutions suck pretty bad so I'd plan on recording with the resolution set to 1080.

The audio recording works good. Window mount is good and secure. Plenty of cable. Wish it plugged into the unit form the top or back rather than the bottom.

I've bought a couple other camera's and this is the best of them so far. I think there is a better unit out there, I just haven't found it yet.

Video shows visual, and audio capabilities. Lets your read license plates. It does have a 4x zoom but you never really think about it.

Unit records nice with pretty clear video. The manual is awful, just finding where the battery went was a challenge if you go by the manual, ex " turn the battery knob towards the mark to open cover" not at all how it works. Open the LCD screen squeeze the sides of camera and pull up. Using the menu there is a button that is like a joystick and moves 4 directions and you can push it down. Took a while to figure the buttons out. Also when you set for auto rotate the image it only auto rotates the LCD screen not the camera. So it you mount it on the windshield as it suggests your videos will be sideways on your computer. A 7 minute video on 780 dpi used 1 meg of space

I was running through the many DVD players that would support all the formats I needed. Typically I was thinking of staying in the 80 dollar range. Then I saw this Sony on sale for 99.99. I thought, Great a DVD player that plays ALL the formats, and Im getting a Sony.

Much like the other user, I have stalling issues through out any DVD I put in. It is NOT issues with the disk. But even worse is the terrible problems it has with darker transitions. For instance:

When its a black screen and you have credits that pop up....you see a darker patch of black across the screen fully -------Directed By Ridley Scott----------. Like that. It also has similar problems during movie play. One scene, A guy was in a darkened closet, and clearly your meant to see him vaguely. Instead, I got negative (like a negative from a picture) effect over his face. It did this same thing with several other movies.

Lastly, the ease of use is just horrific. I dare any of you to buy this product and think this Unit is convenient. Lack of FF, or RW speeds, Menu options that are poorly put together. Skipping through scenes is a horrific battle.

On the plus sides, the picture, when not affected by this units darker places problems, is pretty dag gone crisp.

Has lots of nice picture quality setups, and sound setups.

Plays all the formats for those of you who needs a guaranteed play em all unit.

Was the best looking unit I saw in many online and retail markets.

Overall, the studdering, and the picture quality issues makes this unit a big ol negative. I suggest finding something better.

This was my first DVD player, because my kids were getting sick and tired of playing DVDs on my computer.

The first one (DVP-NS425P)I got had what I considered to be serious playback problems.

While playing various DVD disks, it did not play the video smoothly, but would stop for a fraction of a second at random places during the film, before continuing smoothly. This happened several times while playing the same disk. When I scanned back past the spot where this happened, and then replayed the same section again, it did not happen again. But it would happen again at a different spot, and when I scanned back and replay again, the same thing happened; it played fine.

Another way to describe the problem is, that the disc seems to "stutter" at random spots. These are never the same spot on the individual disks. It happened with almost every disk I played. I have only played movie disks, that I own or rent. I have not played any DVD -R, -RW, +R or +RW disks.

The last time this happened was with a brand new DVD disk, fresh out of the box.

Thinking that I just had a faulty player, I went back to the store to exchange it for a new one. Unfortunately the new one does exactly the same thing. Except it does it worse. The random stops are now much longer. The player is being returned of a refund. I will not get a new one.

As far as I am concerned, this is a bad DVD player. On top of that, SONY tech support has been unhelpful and outright incompetent.

My goal was to purchase a cheap DVD player to drive a DLP projector and avoid going to the "high-end" DVD/CD units until later. The unit is a DVD player first and marginally a CD/MP3 player next.

VIDEO QUALITY:

After returning 2 different DVD players, I settled on this unit. DVD playback is very good and component video (480p to be specific) is clearly better than the NS725 and matches the video output of the Panasonic F85S. This quality approaches that of my computer's output. I don't have that many DVDs, nor do I rent very often but my friends who rent often say they have not had any problems playing discs....yet.

AUDIO QUALITY:

All forms of audio that's supported sounded as expected on my mid-high end system. Keep in mind that there is no fiber optic connector for digital audio (only coaxial). I don't have a subwoofer yet but the remaining channels sounded fine.

ERGONOMICS & USE:

The remote control is typical Sony. The button layout needs improvement but I didn't purchase this unit expecting or wanting every feature under the sun. Keep It Simple Stupid (KISS) is what I was looking for and basically what I got.

ANNOYANCE:

I've tested 4 of these players (via friends and 1 that I returned due to the problem described) and when playing CD's, the CD mechanism makes an annoying sound averaging at least once a second. When playing a DVD, this sound is not produced due to the rotational speed difference between playing a CD and playing a DVD. I ultimately accepted this problem as I will probably purchase a separate, higher quality CD player. Remember, I just wanted a cheap DVD player that had very good progressive component video.

BOTTOM LINE: It's a solid DVD player, but don't I don't recommend it if you think you'll be annoyed by mechanical noises when playing CDs.

I've been using my PS2 as a DVD player for about 2 years and figured using the stupid controller as the remote is so 2001. I decided to find a DVD player that could suit my needs. I needed one that would have Progressive scan for HDTV, one that would play burned DVD's (Legally of course, one with 5.1 audio support, and one that would look stylish. I got that and more with this Sony player. At 100 bucks, it's a little more than the standard $40 players you can pick up, but it does have great features. DVD+ and -RW reading, MP3 CD player, 5.1 Coaxial output, progressive scan, pan and scan, a beautiful exterior and a great remote. Also, the thing is almost silent. Only when the dvd loads does it make a peep. I'm docking it one star because Pan and Scan only works with certain dvd's and the fact that Sony left out a Digital Optical output in the back. Also, you have to stop the movie to adjust sound and picture options. I do like how it picks up where you first stopped the video. For the price, it's hard to beat this fully loaded DVD player.

This is my second sony dvd player. The first lasted about a year and was hardly used. Out of no where the Drive on it stopped functioning. So now I go out and buy another sony dvd player, the DVP-NS425P, to replace it. No longer than a month later the drive dies the exact same way. What I can conclude from this is either Sony is using recycled drives or they are using faulty drives in their dvd players. From now on I'm not paying $100+ for dvd players. Sony has caused me to lose faith in their products and I will no longer pay for their name. Maybe you will or do have better luck with Sony but I will stick to something cheaper. Then maybe I will feel like I've gotten my moneys worth.

Pioneer DVR-2910 Internal SATA DVD/CD Writer 20X, Black

This drive works as advertised. sturdier than the drive that came with the computer. The E-SATA connections couldn't be any easier. No having to figure out and deal with the jumpers was a nice surprise. Just plug it in and turn the computer on.

This is a great DVD drive. It is fast and does what I needed it too. It did not come with a SATA cable so your going to have to buy one, it came with some software, but it pretty much was useless. I opted for my own software. I did like the burn DVD, CD software that it included; however my MOBO had better software included in its package.

Pros: Quiet when operating (can't hear it at all over my PC fans). Works at speeds advertised. Works with every media I've tried it with so far (multiple brands of CD-R's, DVD-R's, and DVD-RW's). Not a single bad burn so far. Reads all CDs and DVDs so far with no problems.

Cons: Somewhat slow to spin up upon first inserting a disc. Eject button on the front is extremely flimsy, so much so that I feel I need to be careful not to bust it off whenever I press it. Very lightweight compared to my old one, which makes me wonder how cheap the internal parts are, however doesn't seem to be an issue so far based on experience.

NightOwl 8 Channel DVR Security System w/500GB HDD

Cameras: a lot of cheap fixed cameras are better than a couple of pan/zoom cameras, you want fewer perimeter blind spots and cameras in each other's field of view to capture tampering. 8 was about right for a house and garage, 4 might work for a condo. These are full of compromises, a license plate is difficult to read when the car fills the frame, and the LEDs cause a halo glare at night. But HD cameras would have cost twice as much. Blooming trips the motion detection algorithm. I didn't like black so I painted them to reduce overt big-brother feel.

Wires: Others say "cheap wires," I think that really means cheap connectors; I had a camera "die" less than 24 hours after installation, turned out to be the spring-loaded BNC connection.

DVR: Latest hack, from January 29 this year, no firmware update to address it. http://securityadvancement.com/2013/01/dvr-flaw-swann/ . Instructions poke too many holes, I opened fewer ports and changed the numbers from the instructions. Controlling it from a browser requires an unsigned activeX plug-in and defeating a lot of security settings on your computer, Windows wouldn't even let me over-ride to install the plug-in-ironic for a security product to be so indifferent to security. Installed NetViewer instead; NetViewer can't paste password from KeyPass manager so logging in is tedious.

I also wish there were two sensitivity thresholds and schedules, one for recording, and then a tighter screen for email/alarm; if it would even put the camera number in the subject line, I could use an email subject filter to pick the cameras I'm most interested in, but the other cameras would be available for forensics. Anyway, I set all the sensitivities to the lowest setting and had ten emails overnight.

Android App: Functional and helped a bunch for aligning the cameras. Annoyances: doesn't exit when you push the power button; I had to make two profiles one if I'm on the LAN and other if I'm outside on internet; and there's a pop-up to prevent you from leaving the app.

But when I can buy a package this cheap that does most of the good for so little of the cost, it's hard to justify spending more to protect a residence.

Livescribe Sticky Notes

I have had both a 1 gb Pulse and an 8 gb echo (which is great!). For notebooks, I have 2 3-subjects, 4 1-subjects, 1 journal size, and 1 Moroccan mini wrap. I have had dozens of pen refills. I now have these "Sticky" notes. Up until these "sticky" notes, I thought everything made by Livescribe was primo, top-of-the line. But, these "sticky" notes, while seemingly a great idea, are not sticky enough to stay where you put them. Seriously, they stick on for maybe 3 seconds before flopping off like a dead leaf in a cold spell. It's comical.

Sticky notes of this size are great for two reasons their size and their ability to "stick" onto things. Post-Its didn't get huge just because people needed a little piece of paper. Post-Its got popular because people needed a little piece of paper they could stick on stuff: books, monitors, medicine cabinets, etc. Sticky notes that are not sticky (and I would barely call these sticky, at all), are really only small sheets of notepaper. Still useful, (and admittedly even more useful with the genius that is the livescribe format); however, they should not be sold as a sticky note. The insert warns that the "adhesive may mark some surfaces or lift inks" I highly doubt these sticky notes have any adhesive on them, whatsoever. It seems as if they stick to each other through friction more than due to any adhesive. When you hold the back of them up to a light, there is no visible line where the sticky would be. When you run your finger on the back of them, all you feel is smooth paper and a small patch that feels like the grippy iphone cases. If you tape your iphone to the front of these, and sit it on your dashboard, it might not slip around as much. But, don't try to stick them to things as you would a typical post-it note. They can't hold their own weight. I have no-name sticky notes that I got as marketing fluff, and at tradeshows, that stick quite well (and, have for years). There is no excuse for such a reputable company like Livescribe to sell such a far inferior version of an otherwise great idea.

For what the other reviewers are needing, it seems as if this product fits the bill. I am curious if others are having this same experience. If the employees are just using these as note papers, or, if the pages are tagged and the book is immediately closed, thus, gravity and mass would be holding these notes in the book.

As little Livescribe note papers, they seem to be great. If you only need them for that purpose, or have anther plan for adhesion (thumbtacks, staples, paperclips, tape, those 3m command photo clips, etc.), then I think you would be very pleased with the functionality they deliver. If their adhesion, unassisted, is part of your planned use, you may be unhappy with their quality and function.

Nice, neat little sticky notes. Sticky notes alone are precious and helpful, even in the digital age.

But when you blend them with a Livescribe pen, Livescribe Connect, and (perhaps)Evernote?

It just does not get any better. By writing on one of these, the writing is stored in my pen, then it is uploaded on to my computer. I can then email the sticky note, sync into Evernote, or just store it in my computer. Evernote syncs between the different computers I use, so I now have a copy of the sticky note on every computer. Plus, I leave the note where it needs to be. As a student, that's often inside a book for a research project.

Here's how that works for me: while reading a book or journal for research, I jot notes on these stickies with my Livescribe pen. I put the sticky notes in the text. Then, I sync the pen. Now, if I have taken good enough notes, I can do the bulk of my writing without having to keep a stack of books with me the whole time. I can write at home or at Starbucks or at the office or at the student center---you get the idea. But, I've left the note in the book in case I need further reference.

I can jot down a to-do list that then syncs into my computer. I use these for short grocery lists (email the note to my Blackberry or store in Evernote). It helps me generate a note that's available in two places (at least) at the same time. This is a great thing.

I use a lot of stickynotes for various purposes. They get attached to something, and eventually disappear or get thrown away. But wouldn't it be cool to still have a record of them? Perhaps even with some audio information?

I go back and forth between my office and the lab, frequently carrying some configuration details on a stickynote, that I then place on a surface to review as I work. And I may take additional notes down as I work. If the note is lost, or I want to review the details two weeks later, I can, thanks to my magic pen.

I also use these to annotate non-Livescribe documents, in a manner to create a rich amount of detail and long term memory of that detail.

In a training environment you can insert these into textbooks and add contextual notes to the book that can be removed later. There are a large number of ways this can be used.

So while stickynotes are a great invention on their own, as is the Livescribe system itself, the combination of the two technologies exceeds the sum of the parts. The applications possible with this combination are well beyond note taking.

I should note, I removed a previous review where I gave these only two stars, due to defects in the glue used. I purchased my original supply shortly after they were introduced as a new product. The original version had some challenges with the quality and performance of the glue. I've upgraded my review and removed my complaints after Livescribe corrected the defect and replaced my supply of bad notepads. There is another review (with comments from me) that calls out this issue. At this time the problem has been corrected, resulting in a 5-star review.

I purchased this adapter as a replacement for the original. The first one lasted less than a year and the second one less than six months. Each time the plastic connector on the end that plugs into the camera fell apart. I do plug the camera in about once a week, but this seems to be shoddy workmanship. The only reason I didn't give it one star is because it seemed to work fine before the connectors fell apart.

I might as well have just bought a piece of plastic and pretended to listen to music rather than buy this. The touch screen was terrible it took me ten minutes to calibrate it the first time and it still had bad sensitivity. The charge lasted maybe half an hour of listnening to music (and thats being generous). The camera was worthless and it took me three days to figure out how to delete files on it. After FIVE days of use the flimsy plastic screen cracked but instead of still being able to see it, like an ipod touch, the screen became black and white. I now use it as a micro sd card reader for my blu ray player. I dont recommend any other coby mp3 touch product.

works well, Coby customer support is decent when i enquired about some functionality. I do a fair amount of video work, a lot of which is at my church. In various situations, I will need a lapel mic, and others a stereo feed from my shotgun mic (used as a boom mic) or from the board mix. This is still the only device (at least only affordable device) that I have found to be able to do all those things, most of all the stereo wireless transmission.

The audio has no latency that I can find -as one other review seemed to indicatespeaking as one who watches mouths or drums or anything else closely and listens for the sound to match up. Perhaps he is more precise in measuring it than I, but I cannot detect any latency in the sound whatsoever by my ear.

The sound quality is quite good, it sounds every bit as good as a normal 1/8" line, and very much better if there is any distance over 20'. The transmitter works over a pretty great distance without walls, probably around their claim of 100'. With walls, it seems to be much shortened, just using it walking around the house listening to music from my laptop. I don't feel this to be a problem, as I always have sight line when using it.

The battery life is at least 2-3 hours, though I haven't gone longer without charging it, as it would be a major setback for the batteries to be depleted while I needed to be using them. It does give a low battery indication on the LED flashes, but beyond that there is no way to know the amount of battery remaining that I am aware of.

One note, somehow in my skimming of information online before the purchase and the quick start guide, I had the impression that it would be set for stereo line in from the first time I turned it on. I later discovered that I had used it in the passive guitar mode instead of stereo line mode, which is why it always sounded like an ocean in the background on sound from the board or boom mic! Make sure you learn about the modes and set them properly or you won't like what you get!

Overall I am very pleased with my purchase, and would recommend this item!

there's a delay between the note being played and the note sounding. It's very noticeable and distracting if you try to use these as instrument wireless system. I have used them at four gigs as in-ear monitors. The latency does not bother me when I use them this way.

I also have a line 6 G50 wireless system which does not have this problem.

These are well built, easy to use, and the included cables and case are very nice.

I recently went out on a limb and ordered 2 of these systems to be used simultaneously as a way to send wireless signal from an analog mixer to two powered speakers. The speakers were within about 50 feet of the transmitters and had reasonable line of sight. My initial tests seemed ok until I tried to use them at an event. I lost signal to one of the speakers multiple times and could not seem to make any adjustments that would resolve the problem. On a positive note I went to the website, left a note on their forum and recieved a phone call within a couple days. A very polite man explained that the two transmitters need to be seperate from each other or the signals get confused. Sounded like a reasonable explanation so I ran some tests using each system independantly and had the same issues. For my puposes this is just a chance that I cannot take and decided to return the product. I want to be fair and say that the system seems like good quality equipement and does perform the task it was designed for. I am just not sure how reliable the connection will be. Too bad because I was excited about the concept. I have since discovered that the companay will be marketing a product specifically for wireless speaker systems. Maybe there is still hope!

100 of these babies? Why did I order so many? Because it allows me to move a DVD I already own into the same case as it's replacement blu ray. If you already own the DVD of movie and then buy the blu ray version, you can swap the artwork into this double disk unit and keep the new blu ray and old DVD together, saving space on the shelf in the process. This also allows you to increase the number of upgraded movies to blu ray without the wife realizing you are doing it because the shelf space stays the same!

Oh yes the quality of these cases are very good. At least as good as the cases the movies came in.

This item has been hit or miss for me. The first order I had was through FantasyBuy. The cases had no Blu-ray logo and were very difficult to open/close. Some of the cases were broken and I had to throw them away. They still got the job done for what I needed, but quality wasn't great.

The second order was through 1 Stop Outlet. The cases were perfect. Just like any case you would get when buying a Blu-ray from the store. Color was perfect, snapped closed very easy (no flip lock on the case) and a beautiful Blu-ray logo on them.

I will be ordering this again down the road, hopefully I can get them from 1 Stop Outlet again.

These cases are high quality Blu-ray cases and are not knock-offs. The disks stay secure within the case and do not become unhooked with minor jostling. I cannot tell any difference between these cases and the cases which come with new movies (other than these are 2-disk cases). If I run out, I would buy again.

I purchased these cases to replace some that got broken during my move (Damn UHAUL trucks)and there great. Not exactly the same tho, these cases are slightly more see through and the BLU RAY logo is just a bit larger on the top, also there 1mm thicker aswell, Video shows it all

you are getting what you pay for, and these are some of the cheaper cases you will find. I'm really not a picky person with cases, but these just don't feel/look right to me. the spine is a little too square, the blu-ray logo is hard to see, and the discs don't pop in/out smooth. Also, don't expect to get 100 usable cases... some had a cut/melted art sleeve in my box. Overall I was disappointed after I got them.

If you just want a case that's blue and the same size these are fine, but don't fool yourself into thinking they're as good as official cases. I'd personally rather spend the extra $5-$10 for better cases next time.

I bought this recorder for school and it works good. At times I would sit in the back of a fairly large class and was still able to pick up the professor's voice. The only minor thing I noticed was that the time clock sometimes lagged behind a couple of minutes...not sure if it's because of cheap batteries (even though they were new) or due to something else...this is only a minor issue I encountered, so overall I would recommend this product to someone, especially considering it's much cheaper than buying it at a store.

I've had this recorder just a little over a year and the USB stopped connecting to the computer. I'm a college student and I have hours of lectures that I can't upload to the computer...less than a month from graduation!!!

Never, EVER misplace your "owners' Manual it is one giant sheet of paper with dozens of pages on it, about as friendly as a scorpion. The letters on the DLable version are the size of grains of sand, it is basically unreadable. What kind of retarded organization would do something like this? I expect the Chinese to cut corners on paper but not RCA. They could have at very least made it downloadable in a format that is readable but Nooooooo....... Screw the consumer!

I purchased 2 other night vision cameras and was disappointed. I spent the extra money to buy this camera and was very impressed with the picture quality. I can see across my street at night with no problem. The night vision picture is very clear and bright. During the day it is so clear it's like looking out a window.

I didn't give it 5 stars for one reason. The price is great but it does not include the power supply cord or any cable. That's just a ridiculous way to sell this item. It's like selling a car without the keys included. It costs $25 for the power adaptor and another $25 for cable and connectors, not to mention a trip to Radio Shack.

Also, you need to take it apart to focus the lens after you set it up. There were no directions in the box to tell you how to do that so I had to call the company.

I would still buy it again (I'm recommending it) but let the buyer beware that you need to spend at least $50 additional in order to hook it up.

This camera is definitely superior over all others i've seen in both price and quality.

There is a BNC female connector on the back plate (male BNC adapters for RCA cables are available at Radio Shack, as is the 12v power converter. Save more money and time. Positive polarity.)

I noticed the camera rattling and loose inside. If your camera begins to rattle, open up the back plate and carefully remove the whole assembly with the plate-attached metal stair-step stand that supports the camera. You can adjust the stand by twisting any loose columns. But be careful not to unfocus the camera.

Do not try to open the front of the camera, unless you absolutely have no choice like to replace the IR ring!

The IR ring (infra-red led lights attached to a curcuit board) is held in place separately in the front of the camera with a small white pin connector with wire leads to the camera board. This is convenient because when the IR leds may burn out after a few years, you can just disconnect and replace the ring for cheap.

The sun shade slides only if the front and back end screws are loosened. At the top-back of the camera, there are 2 built-in screw fittings that confused me at first. (Be sure to refer to the picture here that shows how the wall connector is put together, or you will become frustrated since there are no instructions or diagrams on how to use the supplied hardware.) Do not try to move the angle of the shade, since the only way it moves is from front to back on slides.

The reason this or most surveillance cameras on the market today do not have any audio is because the public privacy law has changed to make eavesdropping illegal in many states. But if you are so inclined, find mini-microphones, transmitters and receivers on the hobby shop sites selling motorized airplanes that employ digital cameras. You might find better prices for mini-box color cameras as well with portable power supplies.

I just installed this camera today. The picture is good but the field of view is very narrow. I can only see a width of about 18 feet wide at a distance of 60 feet. The IR ring is visible at night and makes the camera stand out, something to think about.

This is a great camera overall and the company has great customer service. Shipping was pretty quick too. I didn't realize how zeroed in it would be. My mistake in not paying attention to the "long range" in the description or understanding that. I used it anyway further back with good results.

It was ok with me that there was no audio because I purchased a high range mic for cctv separately and attached it to the back which worked with the video cable that I also purchased separately.

I purchased this to obtain license plate numbers of cars parking near mine on my street where I park without paying a fortune for those type of cameras on other sites. I figure if someone does something I can obtain the plate number too. It does do that (only during the day) at about 25 feet even when the cars are moving at about 15 mph and you pause the DVR. I have a CPCAM 4 channel DVR. From where I had it mounted (25 feet) the view was just the plates verses the car and plates so I used another camera for that and moved this one back.

Also at night the plates are washed out (at 25 feet) but due to the small area where I can mount the cam at the right angle to view the plates I couldn't experiment with the camera being back further as to not wash out the numbers so I can't judge what it would do a little farther back. The night vision is that good so I think if too close it washes it out.

Good high resolution also. When I first installed it and trying to get the right angle I had it halfway on the back part of my car . (I could see the rain drops on the car and the camera was 15 feet away.) Now I moved it back 50 feet and I can get my whole car in from the side as well as the persons face who is standing next to my car.

I would say this is a good deal for the price and quality (big and sturdy) with a really good thick bracket. I would definitely purchase this again if I had the need. Make sure you need it for long range and not close up unless it is a small zeroed in area.

I purchased two of these to replace the cheap, low quality cameras that came with my DVR System. They work very well. Easy to hook up, comes with good stands (though I mounted mine on light stands via the 1/4 inch threaded hole on the bottom) and work as advertised. These have decent rangeI was able to get about 30 feet in a building with no other light sources.

These are not super high end cameras, they don't have settings or features to adjust. They are plug and play cameras that work well.

Love the rugged unit. Very easy to use. Love the loop mode so I don't have to record all day, just tag the good stuff.

The wireless remote is the only detractor. You have to have it close to the unit so if you have the main unit in your backpack you have to get your wrist close to it in order to tag a loop.

Very long battery life with rechargeable batteries. I would also recommend the extra mounting kit as it has many more mounts that will give you more flexibility.

I purchased this camera at Amazon and have used it for six months now. I have also used other helmet-mounted video cameras. This camera has a couple features that no other camera system under $500 has, so if you need those features you have to get this camera. However, many of the details about using this camera have been absolutely maddening and I've cursed VIO aloud many times. Here's a summary of pros & cons (as compared to other sub-$500 cameras):

PROS:

* Nice LCD monitor to check what you just filmed.

* Uses AA batteries rather than rechargeable, so you can bring extra batteries and use it all weekend without needing 110V and time to recharge.

* "Loop" function to retroactively record what you just did. Great in theory (and the main reason I bought this camera), but in practice it is maddening (see below).

* Some interesting accessories, such as transparent dust cover for lense (for off-road filming)

CONS:

* Mounting systems SUCK! I bought the $70 mounting kit, and virtually every mount has a serious design flaw, is unecessarily complex and time-consuming to use, and is not reliable. None of the mounts designed to be attached with glue pads have broad flat surfaces to which a glue pad can actually adhere. SO guess what -they fall off! Every mount had some flaw that made it unreliable. For examples: The Wire Guide mounts don't actually grip the wire firmly, so at any speeds above 30mph the wind pulls out the wire on three different helmets -useless. The "Star Mount" for helmets is flimsy, ridiculously large, and has no good surfaces to which its glue pad can adhere (BOTH my Star Mounts fell off the helmets just sitting on a shelf, even BEFORE the first use!). Finally, all the mounts require the use of tiny screws that must be firmly tightened or else they'll fall out, yet they are of poor quality and strip VERY easily. And at least three slightly different size tiny screws are used, and no extras are provided. Just stupid compared to other cameras' clever mounting systems for helmets. {I offer no comments on the mounts other than for helmets -the other mounts actually appear more useful with caveat about the tiny screws still applying)

* Even the $30 fabric pouch for attaching the heavy CPU unit to your vest, etc. has a design flaw. It appears to be a very beefy design overall, EXCEPT the two final straps that actually hold the CPU unit in place are thin fabric with very small velcro patches -they'll tear off and unit will fall out if you are doing anything very bouncy, so you must use zip ties. If these two straps were simply wider and used bigger velcro patch it would be an AWESOME pouch. But as it stands it stinks.

* Heavier & more complicated than other camera systems

* Remote is not very water-resistant (mine failed during first use on a jet ski), nor is main unit (which requires $100 accessory to be water-resistent).

* "Loop" function is maddening. When you push the button to retroactively record the last "3 minutes" of video, you have no idea of knowing what it will actually record. What is actually recorded will range from past 1 minute to past 4 minutes PLUS will ALSO record going forward another 1-4 minutes (which sort of defeats the purpose of retroactively recording it seems to me). I suppose if you are a professional film editor who plans on spending 6 hours reviewing the day's footage this is okay, but for an amateur looking to watch cool videos from his day's ride it forces you to record & watch 2-4x longer video than you really want, and you never know if you actually captured what you want to capture. It would be much nicer to push the "record the past 3 minutes" button and have the camera actually just record the last 3 minutes. (I realize that this description may sound inscrutible if you are not familiar with the Loop function, so I apologize).

This camera is superior than others in having the lcd screen and small profile camera head, but don't be fooled into purchasing anything from V.I.O. or it may cost you.

Price: costs a LOT more than the competitors

Accessories: you will need them and WOW will you have to pay top dollar to get them. $90 just for a mounting kit.

Repairs: They don't do them. Something breaks, buy a new one.

Firmware updates: You have to BUY them too!

Professionalism: Ended up getting the wrong extension cord from their website because it was incorrectly labeled as compatible for my camera. Also took almost a week to get my email to customer service answered.

Design flaws: POV1.0 Camera head opened under normal use. Head can be easily unscrewed when removing the a/v cable because it is not fixed closed. (it is threaded to open for no apparent reason and attached to where the a/v cable attaches. If camera head twists open, the fixed wiring will pull away from components and render the camera head useless. ($200 replacement part). No warning in the instruction manual and they do not repair or have refurbished parts. Customer service first said the product was used improperly. When I disputed this and it was clear that it opened while used as directed, the supervisor intervened and stated that the user tampered with the product and voided the warranty. This design flaw was fixed for the POV1.5 when they created the tethered head, but they claim this change was done to "make the camera easier to use" not because of a design flaw.

Design Flaw #2: Camera will not stay secure in the mount on its own. I had to add tape around the body of the camera to secure it tighter in the mount so that it would stay fixed upright. Camera head would not stay upright on my helmet and video would be ruined because camera was shooting at a crooked angle.

There are plenty of helmet cameras out on the market for half the price. For the price of VIO cameras, there should be much better customer service. This is not the case.

This is a great camera system. Rugged, very good quality video. Good battery life. Lots of mounting options. I wash there was a recording indicator on the remote.
