Hidden Mini DVR Spy Cam for Use with House Plant

Hidden Mini DVR Spy Cam for Use with House PlantSeller's writeup states: "With just 8GB of memory, you can record up to 90 minutes of high-quality full color video. Use a 32 GB Micro SD Card to store several hours of crisp and clear video."

This can be construed to mean it comes with the 8GB Micro SD Card but one may purchase a 32GB Micro SD Card in order to record more and/or longer video.

As of this review, ITEM DOES NOT COME WITH A SD MEMORY CARD!

You can, for the same price, go to seller's website (electroflip.com), search for iSpyG1 and see this same item which per the "Features" tab of the item description DOES come with an 8GB Micro SD Card. I quote: " MicroSD Memory Included included is a bundled Micro Secure Digital Memory card. With this card you can store up to 10 hours of video clips."

I purchased this item thinking it would come with at least an 8GB Micro SD Card and was surprised and disappointed when it did not.

To the seller's credit, after contacting them, and after only 2 emails (through Amazon's "Contact Seller" option), they agreed to send me an 8GB Micro SD Card which arrived about a week later.

The iSpyG1 does what it says it does. It records pretty good video as long as the light is good. Poor light = poor video. The only thing I didn't like was when you turn it on, LED's light up and flash and continue to flash as long as it's recording (I suppose that way the user knows it's doing what it's supposed to do, but if you are using it for covert surveillance and don't want flashing LED's to give it away, you'll have to put opaque tape (I used duct tape) over the device.).

Overall, I had to give it 4 stars because of the confusion about the inclusion of an 8GB Micro SD Card and because of the blinking LED's while in use, which would probably rate only 3 stars, but seller was very accommodating with SD Card issue, hence the 4 star rating!

iriver IFP-180T 128 MB Flash MP3 Player

iriver IFP-180T 128 MB Flash MP3 Player
  • Integrated digital FM tuner with presets
  • Exclusive Record from FM feature lets you store and play back special radio programming
  • Supports MP3, WMA and ASF music files
  • Up to 20 hours playback on a single AA battery
  • Built-in Voice Recorder

It's at an amazing price since it's being phased out, yet I would recommend getting it. The sound quality is excellent, particularly the quality of the voice recordings, which are amazing -far better than on any non-iRiver units. If you want to use it to capture class or meeting notes, you'll be able to strain less and hear more with this unit.

Yes, capacity is limited, but I don't care, since I just need enough variety to get through a workout, and I fill it with songs I love anyway. Will it start to break in 2-3 years as others suggest? Probably, but if so, it's been a great player for $1.50 a month. Come on...after two years, the new players will be so much better that you'll put this in a drawer even if it's still working perfectly!

This is my first MP3 player and I did not know what to expect. All I can say is "AWESOME"! It is very tiny, light weight and has great fidelity. The controls are a little intimidating at first, but are no problem once you go through the instructions a time or two. The earphones are fine, no need to throw these away like on so many other units. The FM works great. I am getting stations from 50-75 miles away. The FM sound quality is outstanding as is the MP3 player. I also found that the memory storage is adequate, at least for me. I can load about 30 songs or about 2 hours of music. That is more than I would care to listen to at one time. Since the software is easy to use, it is a piece of cake to load the new music for variety. I have had a few problems with the software on Windows 98 SE.

Iriver stays on top of their software and are constantly updating. The firmware is updateable so your unit will stay up with any changes or improvements. You also get a one year warranty while many of the MP3 players only get 90 days.

I am more than pleased with this purchase and highly recommend it. It looks great, sounds great and the price is great!

I have owned this mp3 palyer for over a year now and would like to say this I am happy with it. There are a few problems but if you are willing to overlook those, then it's a great little product.

Pros Great Sound. Good battery life. Can store approximately 20-23 (128 kbps encoded) mp3 files. Plays .wma and .asf files too. Has built in equilizer settings and you can create your own eq settings as well. Backlit display is good. FM tuner is good and you can record from it. Built-in voice recorder is a great feature. I can record upto 2 hours and the quality is great. You can also convert whatever you record into mp3 files using the iRiver Music Manager. For Windows XP users, you can download a UMS driver for this which will make it appear as another drive on your system and then you can use it like any other USB storage device.

Cons Do not use this while exercising. A slight shock will open up the battery cover and the battery will slip out. This usually happens over a period of time. There are many features and navigating through all can take some time. The display is very small.

Want iriver IFP-180T 128 MB Flash MP3 Player Discount?

I purchased this player about 2 years ago. It has stood up to all the abuse I have put it through. It has unbelievable sound, and cannot be beat.

A nice buy, considering the price and quality sound. Overall I became a big fan of iRiver players after this and bought a higher memory size. Highly recommend it for budget buyers.

As for Cons the USB cable is a drag. I have a creative Muvo also and it can be plugged straight into the USB jack. Organizing play lists needs to get better.

RCA DRC257N DVD Player

RCA DRC257N DVD Player
  • TV guardian
  • 9 in 2 memory card reader
  • Multi-format playback
  • Progressive scan
  • component video output

I Have never been crazy about any RCA products but the price was right and I needed an inexpensive upconverting player fast.

First off the up converting on this player is awesome! Even my back-up dvd looked phenomenal. however through the HDMI cable this player did not seam to do a very good job of separating the audio through a 5.1 receiver. Front and rear speakers seamed to be playing the exact same thing. Bummer!! I ended up taking this back to the store and purchasing a Panasonic DVD-53k which is supposed to upconvert to 1080p. Well my DLP TV recognizes the Panasonic as a 1080p signal but the picture is noticeably grainier than the RCA player. But the Panasonic does a wonderful job with the 5.1 audio. If only the RCA did as good as a job with the 5.1 audio.

I am an avid electronics fan and have not had any problems ever with any piece of equipment that I have bought. Until now. This DVD player is not good. The picture is awesome (when it shows up). You often have to shut off the dvd player and then start it back up for the sound or picture to work using the hdmi output. Very annoying.

I bought this DVD player becuase I purchased a widescreen LCD HDTV and wanted a good dvd player with an HDMI out port on it to upscale my dvds to make them look better on my new tv. This dvd has worked flawlessly. It has an HDMI port, composite out and component out and has a 9 in 2 card reader so you can watch slide shows of your images straight from your camera cards it can also read mp3s from those cards to make a music slide show. This dvd player comes built in with TV Guardian which can filter out foul language on dvds, I havent tried this feature out so I cant really comment on it. I would recommend this dvd player to anyone wanting to spend a little more to get HDMI support to upscale dvds. It is very sleek looking out of the box in a wide but thin stance. Great buy!

Want RCA DRC257N DVD Player Discount?

I don't think mom or dad had one problem with it. At first we thought some kid did something to it and messed up the Tv guardian but after further inspection and rewiring dad got it to work so thank you Mr.Seller. haha a curse free movie night is so wonderful!!!! thank you thank you!

I bought this for the TV Guardian feature to replace my last RCA DVD player. The prior player was a replacement for another RCA DVD player. All different models, all purchased for the TV Guardian feature. None have lasted more than 8 or 9 months. For the cheap price I was willing to consider it a "disposable" item the first couple of times. I guess I'll try something else. when they worked they were OK using component and optical outputs. Getting the HDMI output to work was a constant battle not worth fighting on this unit.

Magnavox MPD720 7-Inch Portable DVD Player

Magnavox MPD720 7-Inch Portable DVD Player
  • 7-inch widescreen LCD screen; plays DVD, DVD-R, DVD-RW, CD, CD-R, CD-RW, VCD, MP3, and JPEG
  • 3 hours of play with rechargeable battery
  • Headphone jack, built-in stereo speakers
  • Composite, S-video, and digital optical outputs connect to receiver or TV
  • AC/DC power adapter, car power adapter included

I researched and researched portable DVD players prior to going on a 6 week long driving trip to the midwest from my home in the northeast. I ended up deciding on this one, and boy, am I happy I did.

The initial car ride was a 17 hour drive from NH to IL. The player started getting used halfway through the first day, and saved my sanity (I have 2 1/2 year old twins...)I never once had any problems with it in the car, and even my tech-shy mom, riding with me, could figure out how to work the machine.

Once in IL, I also made separate drives to both my in-laws' houses 3 hour and 9 hour drives, respectively. The player, again, worked beautifully. Not one skip, not one overheat, nothing.

My parents also do not have a DVD player at their house, so we used it a lot out of the car and on their TV. It's easy to hook up. The quality is probably not what we have here at home my husband is a tech junkie and we have pretty high-end home equipment but it was certainly quite good.

Just got home this past week, using the player again in the car the whole way back home, and again, not one single issue.

I'll admit that I haven't used the battery very much at all we plugged into the power for both car and home use, but I was able to watch one full movie on the battery at some point, so it's got at least that much juice.

Just a couple of small things to be aware of the case that is included doesn't have much in the way of support if you are trying to hang the player between the front two seats in a van, in order for second row bucket seats to both be able to see it. We rigged the two hanging straps together and supported the player a little bit more by resting a purse on a cooler underneath it. Also, there doesn't seem to be a way to add an extra screen later.

It's loaded with some fun extras like DTS and surround sound capability, if you can hook up to a receiver that handles that kind of sound. The internal speakers were loud enough for us, though it did seem to vary a bit with different movies.

All in all, a wonderful purchase that I'm SO glad that I made!

I have the MPD720 and the Mintek 1770 side by side and they are sourced from the same manufacturer (as another reviewer noted). The software is identical (uses same IR remote codes) and the lithium ion batteries are identically rated (mAh). Build quality is also equivalent. This unit does NOT have s-video support as listed, so beware! (the 1770 does). The Magnavox only comes with a 90 day parts/labor warranty; the Mintek 1770 has a 90 day labor, 1 year parts warranty. Save yourself the Magnavox $ premium and get the Mintek.

I normally do allot of research before purchasing electronics but was under pressure due to a hurricane about to pass our way. My neighborhood almost always loses power, even during small storms, so I knew it would be inevitable with at least 50 mph sustained winds on the way. I stopped by Walmart to check out anything that might keep me entertained through hours without electricity and settled on the Magnavox MPD720. All I can say is, "thank goodness for this little wonder". It performed without a hitch right out of the box, was easy to use, (even in the dark) for hours. I had three people camped out on the sofa with the MPD720 placed on the coffee table several feet away and all were amazed at its clear picture and sound. Luckily I had also purchaed an extra battery pak for more hours and we were able to watch 3 movies, which may not seem like much, but they were long movies "Lord of the Rings" and "Harry Potter" were two of them, so I can honestly say battery life was exceptional.

Want Magnavox MPD720 7-Inch Portable DVD Player Discount?

In my opinion, this Player (MPD 720) is the very best Portable DVD Player on the market. The 7" screen is crystal clear and can be viewed very comfortably from 5 feet away. The speakers although lacking bass, are the best quality for any 7" player. If you arent satisfied with the speakers buy some portable ones at radio shack for $10-$20 and you'll have more sound than you need for a car, train or airplane ride. The unit seems to be very durable and it has never freezed or skipped while I have used it. It is extremely portable and user friendly. Since it comes with a battery, remote, car adapter and carrying case it is the best deal out there at $275.00. The case is awesome, it easily attatches to a car seat, has room for your unit, battery, charger, adapter wires, remote, headphones (not included) and 5-10 DVD's in sleeves. The case fits all that and still only weighs about 4lbs and is only 12" by 12". A flawless design by magnavox. With a product this perfect you have to look hard for flaws and I found 3. 1)The LCD screen has more resistence than you'd think to open it(not a big deal). 2)The buttons on the unit can't be tapped to work, you have to push down and hold them for a second. 3)When the unit is first loading/stopping a DVD it run's kind of loud but soon disappears once the movie starts. Other than that this unit is perfect. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

I have had the Magnavox MPD720 for about a month now and it hasn't skipped a beat. Unlike some players it doesn't go into convulsions when you "dance" on the keys but takes you last entry and does it. I had a CyberHome unit that I bought in November at Wal-Mart and July 2nd it crashed and burned when it was most needed. Good ol' Wally World refunded my money (I had paid $248 for it, although it is now less than $200) with no questions ask. Yes I did have the receipt. The lady took me back to the electronics dept and I picked out the MPD720 without checking the reviews on line but from what I read I made a good decision.

So far it has done fine. I have three gripes that are minor; 1. The case is to darn small. With all accessories stuffed inside it is tight as a drum. No room for headphones, or anything else. I put it in an old laptop bag with the unit inside the original case and all is well. 2. For the life of me I can't find a way to see how much battery is left. With a battery life like I'm getting, well in excess of 3 hours on a charge it doesn't really matter. 3. Internal speakers leave a lot to be desired, low volume on some movies, so low if any other noise is around the sound is covered up. Plug in a set of small headphones and it comes alive.

The quality of the video is much better than the Cyberhome. I'm lucky to have rid myself of that piece of junk... with all the reviews on it rating it super low. Thanks Wal-Mart!

One other thing, I believe Magnavox could have a longer warranty. The CyberJunk rig had a year (thank God), Magnavox has only 90 days, they could do better.

VideoSecu Office Home Video Security Camera CCTV Color Quad Splitter Processor 1EY

VideoSecu Office Home Video Security Camera CCTV Color Quad Splitter Processor 1EYThe instructions are good once the processor is installed. They need to include diagrams and written instructions for a person like me who is not electronically adapt. However the instrutions for setting date, time, quads etc, once you figure out how to get it to work with the recorder and monitor, are very understandable. Once it is all installed, the processor works great. I like how you can very easily use 1, 2, 3 or all 4 cameras and change set up whenever you want. For the price, it is very reasonable and works well with an older system.

Works well, sends out good pictures from the cameras. However, I'm still not sure it has auto-switching between pictures during recording, maybe it's just me, but I thought the instructions weren't clear, that's why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5.

I have 4 security cameras and need to view them on one monitor. This unit fills the bill with lots of extra bells and whistles. Read the product description and it will tell you all about it. This unit is very small in size 6X4X1-1/4 inches. One feature that they don't mention is when the unit is turned on it comes up showing all four cameras on one screen, one in each quadrant. Why is this important? The way this device is used in this my application it is located with 4 mini DVRs VideoSecu Mini Security CCTV DVR Recorder Motion Detection Overwrite Schedule Videos with Audio Recording 3UAin a small hidden locked cabinet. The output of the Color Quad System is feed via one Siamese RG59 coax to a video capture adaptor that plugs into a USB 2 port on a PC. The two wires on the Siamese cable control the power to the Color Quad System. This allows the system to be powered up only when needed from my computer location to view the image which always comes up as all four cameras on screen. This set up also allows you to record the images on the PC. Some one who breaks in and could get to the PC and figure out how to see the images would think that the PC is the recorder and not realize that this was not the case. I would buy this product again as it meets all my needs.

It does exactly what I wanted a four-way split on a single screen showing my 4 cameras. It has more complex software involved if you're interested (ex: zoom, motion detection, etc.), but this isn't necessary for my situation. I put up cameras to monitor my dogs in the backyard just by changing the input on my television (and one on the front porch to see visitors). For this application, it worked flawlessly and I couldn't be happier. I've had it for about 8 months now, and it works just like new. It also notifies you if a camera goes down (if, for example, a wire or plug gets jostled and becomes temporarily loose) with a loud set of beeps. Cool product. I highly recommend it.

NEW X8000 Dual Wide Angel Camera Hd Car Camcorder GPS G-sensor Password Protection

NEW X8000 Dual Wide Angel Camera Hd Car Camcorder GPS G-sensor Password ProtectionWell, its pretty cheap and flimsy. I thought I would like it, but I don't. In fact I stuck it in the back of my truck because I had no other use for it. Its a neat I guess, but doesn't do anything for me. The resolution is lackluster, the images aren't the best and going with a single camera is better. I guess the dual camera is good if you want to get interior expressions of people or if you getting pulled over by the police and one is on each side of your car, you can video the police actions if your up to no good. It was cheap. I got what I paid for.

Sony DVP-S550D DVD Player

Sony DVP-S550D DVD Player
  • Plays DVD video, audio CD, and video CD formats
  • Dolby Digital 5.1-channel decoder
  • Sony precision-drive system with active tilt control
  • SmoothScan high-speed search
  • SmoothSlow slow-motion forward and reverse

After hours of research online, I decided to trade in my JVC XV511 DVD player for this one. Of course, I read about the lip-sync issue, but I also found out that Sony has corrected the problem with a firmware update, and models currently at the store already have this update. It was evident from reviews that apart from the lip-sync issue, the player was blowing everyone away. Now, I have to add my voice to that chorus -this product is amazing. Though the JVC had a great picture, the Sony's is absolutely stunning. With a component video connection, I see no flicker in fine edge detail, and the colors are so rich they leap off the screen. Setting up the 5.1 speaker output was easy, with an intuitive graphical interface. The remote is similarly intuitive, although it took me a few minutes to get used to the navigation button and jog wheel. The player feels solid, discs load very quickly, regular CDs sound excellent, and Sony has packed in a dozen small bonuses (like being able to save a favorite frame as the player's default display when not playing) -all of which leaves me very satisfied, even amazed. With the lip-sync issue now resolved, and unless you want to spend twice as much money, you can't do better than this player.

Buy Sony DVP-S550D DVD Player Now

No lip sync troubles, best picture of any DVD player I have auditioned so far. I tested 13th Floor, Goldeneye, Tomorrow Never Dies and Titanic. Go DVD and when you are forced (and I mean FORCED) to endure VHS, you will think you need glasses while watching the tape. This is an outstanding player, no lip sync issues whatsoever, in fact it seemed better in that respect than the $800 Mitsubishi unit I almost bought. The sales guy steered to me to the Sony unit, said after seeing them every day, he bought the Sony. So did I. The clarity is exceptional, features are full and easy to use. Cinema sound does a passable job of simulating surround, at least until I hook up my surround speakers. The remote is well designed with the most important buttons placed in easy finger reach and made larger than the less frequently used buttons. Most of the features are available at the front panel, and the display is easy to see form across the room. On screen displays can be utilized in wide screne movies without interfereing with the picture. Still frame and frame save is a cool feature. The unit is well laid out and near perfect. You would have to spend several hundred dollars more on others units to achieve the 550's picture and sound quality. Highly recommended

The Sony DVD-S550 is a great buy for first and second time DVD player buyers alike. It offers a tremendous combination of features and performance at a very reasonable price. I had a year and a half old Panasonic DVD player that decided to stop working and I realize now that it really did me a favor. Seeing and hearing movies on this Sony has really opened my eyes and ears to all that DVDs can offer. I mention ears because as amazing as the video quality is, the sound quality is what really blows me away (and you don't need a humongous sound system to appreciate it). You will not be disappointed by this product! It provides very near the quality level of the Sony Reference DVD-S7700 (at half the price) and features (inc. a jog dial remote) that put it over the Sony DVD-S530 (at least in my book).

Want Sony DVP-S550D DVD Player Discount?

I received my Sony DVD player model S550D with a power source malfunctionig, as a result of Amazon excellent service the deffective player was substituted with a new one and all shipping expenses picked by Amazon. I could barely use the new Sony DVD player for three weeks when it experimented the same power source failure, as a result I am returning the second Sony DVD player and I do not plan on buying any Sony DVD player again. I had been a Sony fan all my life before these events.

I absolutely love this Sony product. I have been shopping for about a year now for my first DVD player and I finally decided on this one. It has left me speechless. I have a 32" JVC TV, and Kenwoods "Home Theatre in a box" system (which is Dolby-DTS ready). When I brought the Sony DVPS550D home, and hooked everything up I was amazed at the MONSTER I had created. The first movie I bought was of course the Matrix, and I can't tell you what it sounds like. I can just describe it to you in 2 words.....EARTH SHAKING. I love all the features that comes with the DVD player, and I have not experienced any Lip Sync problems at all. I highly recommend it to anyone.

Real-time recording,Wireless WiFi IP Internet Pan Tilt Dual,Two-way Audio Camera IR Day/Night Vision

Real-time recording,Wireless WiFi IP Internet Pan Tilt Dual,Two-way Audio Camera IR Day/Night VisionVery poor video quality, I don't recommend this product to nobody, nightvision doesn't even work very cheaply made and the base was broken when I 1st received it and did not notice till it was over 30 days return time table it was waste of my money!

A couple of comments. The camera eventually will work, but the instructions are a cryptic as can be. If you are not an IT person, you can forget trying to figure out how to get access to this camera from outside of your home network. This appears to be a Hong Kong based company without over the horizon support. On-line support is non-existent. And if you are a Mac person, forget it. All of their initial setup utilities are Windows based. I WASTED $4.95 on their EasyN iPhone app that does not work at all!

But if you use their client or the clunky interface over the web, it works OK. I am returning this item and going with something more mainstream like Foscam.

Nice camera and easy to configure with remote access. The only drawback is the network security (wifi access --easily hackable, & can be viewed by anyone with the remote viewing address without advanced configuration).Great features, can be remote controlled to 'look around' and can be easily accessed from mobile devices.

Handheld HD Camcorder with Small LCD Screen NEW

Handheld HD Camcorder with Small LCD Screen NEW
  • High Resolution Video with Watermark - The iDrive2 records in amazingly crisp and clear WXGA video - DVD quality. You have three resolution setting option
  • Action-Fast Frame Rate - Most action video is captured using 30 fps - the iDrive2 is no different. You won't have to worry about a jumpy or scratchy picture that doesn't show all the details you'll need for later. At 30 frames per second, you won't miss a thing.
  • Night Vision - We all drive at night, that's no myth. The sad truth is that a majority of accidents and incidents also happen at night. That's why the iDrive2 is equipped with an integrated infrared (IR) array to allow for crisp and clear video recording at night.
  • Power Source - A car charger is included with the kit if you want to have the iDrive2 turn every time your car does. The Lithium-Polymer batteries also provide up to 3 hours of continuous recording when the cigarette lighter adapter kit with your car simply isn't an option. Alternatively if an accident cuts power to your cigarette lighter port, it will continue recording on battery.
  • Motion Detection Mode - Keep everything hands free when you are sitting back and surveilling someone else. The iDrive2 will automatically start rolling tape when it detects motion and stop recording when it doesn't.

I've had it for a while now. Had to buy a SIM card (didn't know) and figure out how to use that.Instructions are impossible. Vendor has real people to help, but you must make appointment. Still haven't figure out the perimeter part. "waterproof" bag is useless.

This camera is better than expected in color quality. The instructions left something to be desired but with a bit of time and experimentation you can get this camera up and running. The only bad point on this camera is the sound quality in the playback mode on the camera. It is static and grable and you cannot make out any voice or sounds from the background when it was recorded. It is best to get the 32 Gig disc, otherwise I am happy with my purchase.

1. There is no useful english manual, the broschure contains only a list of menu options, whose anyhow can be seen on camera.Russion manual is so stupid and ridicoluos that can be used in stand-up show.

2. Write now it records in random intervals, instead of 10 minutes which i choosed in menu. I have no idea how to fix it.

3 .The vacuum holder simply does not work, the camera fails after 2 minutes of being adjusted to window pane. I had to fixed it with glue.

4. The video quality is degenerative. I don't care if it's HD or not, but registration numbers can be seen only in almost perfect light conditions and near-zero distance.

I didn't return the device, becouse dealing with the return process worth less then 60$, since i'm outside US. I think in a case of accidet it's better than nothing. If considering to by camcorder, choose another one

Canon DC100 DVD Camcorder w/25x Optical Zoom

Canon DC100 DVD Camcorder w/25x Optical ZoomThe Canon DC100 is a very easy DVD camcorder to use, just set it to auto mode, press the record button by your thumb, and start recording. The microphone is surprisingly good for such a small camcorder. The camera boasts the ability to take still photos, but I haven't attempted to use this feature at this time. The camcorder is very small, slender, and very light to hold. Although it's a fairly good camcorder for its price range, it's not to say there aren't significant improvements needed.

A couple of things that I felt could be better are the following:

1. The recording function in low light needs improvement. Granted, I don't use the manual controls too frequently, but performance seems to be lagging a bit.

2. The mini-DVD disks hold 20 minutes of video at XP setting. Not that big of a deal to me, especially since the battery will only last that long, but it may be an annoyance to others.

3. The battery (as I mentioned above) only lasts for approximately 20 minutes. Get a spare on E-bay (it's cheap...less than $15 each).

4. You cannot finalize a disk, unless you have the AC adapter (plugged into a wall outlet) connected to the camcorder. It doesn't matter how much battery power you have, if you don't have the AC adaptor, forget about finalizing.

I purchased the Canon DC100 from Amazon in mid-May. This is my fourth camcorder since 1985. Therefore, I pretty much know what is needed by me in the manner in which I use a video. This camera is new but appeared to 'fit the bill', so I bought it on faith. I am not dissapointed! This is a little jewel. How small can a camcorder be designed? It will fit in your coat pocket or your purse. The ergonomics are very good. Who thought to hide that wafer sized battery behind the LCD? That gets it out of the way and it charges in situ. A surprise is the high quality of the fit and finish. From what I have seen in others, this was unexpected. The picture quality is good. Probably not great but this is what you get with small CCDs. However, you do get the long optical zoom (25X). Long zooms are absolutely necessary for my use. You can't get them with mega-pixel cameras. I was apprehensive about the DVD format, but my fears were unfounded. The discs are dirt cheap except for RWs and they are so easy to access and play. If you want a fun camera that you will actually use, this is a good choice. If you are a pro(you probably just think you are) or like to edit(a ridiculous activity) ,get something that costs $800 instead of $400 and let it collect dust.

I recently got new Canon DC100. I was using Sony TRV350 for last 2 years and so was a bit shaky going for Canon. But it seems I did the right thing..

The new camcorder has almost the same recording quality as that of Sony. Audio quality is even better. The size and convenience of use is just incomparable.

More to that it directly writes to DVD. So now onwards no need to spend hours burning CDs/DVDs. Simply superb!!!

The pros could be absence of memory card. I will seriously miss that with my new Canon.

But All in all its a good deal...

It is amazing how technology got so good last less than a decade, it was a dream to directly record right on DVD cd just a few years back. Now you can do that with a price range around $400 and that alone deserves 5 stars. Canon DC100 DVD does it what it says it does and does it so well. I am very satisfied with the quality along with picture resolution and I think this is a fantastic buy for what it costs, I bought it from Amazon and I am very happy with my purchase

I like it for the size and convenience. I think the zoom is good as well. The only problem that I have found is that when recording on the slower setting(which gives you more time on a disk), it is not recognized by the computer or the dvd player. You have to play it thru the recorder. But overall, I am happy with the purchase. It fits in my jacket pocket and is perfect for kids ball games and other activities!

XtremeMac MicroMemo Digital Voice Recorder for iPod nano 2G (Black)

XtremeMac MicroMemo Digital Voice Recorder for iPod nano 2G
  • Compatibility: iPod nano 2G
  • Record interviews, meetings, lectures, or any audio content directly to your iPod nano
  • Flexible, detachable mic for exact positioning
  • Menus and controls display on iPod nano screen
  • Accepts other microphones with 3.5mm plug; records directly from line-in sources

I've been an Ipod user since Gen 3, owning as many as six at one time. The full Ipod's Gen 3&4 had add on features like recorders, the Mini, didn't (sadly). When I discovered I could conduct interviews and use the Ipod as a voice recorder, I was thrilled. I conducted an average of 4 interviews a week, some at the office, some out in the field. Many times, I didn't have advanced notice when I be needed to conduct an interview, (I'm an investigator)so I always had to carry either my laptop or my Sony MC-11 digital recorder in my car. The Ipod changed all that. Now I had a device I carried with all of the time anyway, and with an add on some from Belkin, I could conduct an interview with no advanced warning. Granted unless one added Linux to the 3rd gen, you could only record in mono, but that's all I needed for an interview.

As I moved to smaller and smaller Ipods, (I bought a mini thinking it would work with my recorders but later learned Apple withheld that ability) I was now in the position of having to carry two Ipods with me. This was defeating the purpose of one all around device.

My latest Ipod is the 8 gig Nano 2gen, which when it first came out, didn't have a voice recorder out on the add on market though Apple had put the recording feature back into this product line.

I was pleasantly surprised to learn Apple had enabled stereo recording, but as yet there was not an available product to access this feature.

Than came along the XtremeMac IPN-MIC-20 Micromemo Digital Voice Recorder. I did my research and all of the reviews were glowing. A big selling point was you could remove the small mic and add one of your own. From time to time, I did employ a mic disguised as a pen, so this seemed perfect for me and my line of work.

Like a kid waiting for Santa, I spent every day running to the mail box to see if my order arrived. When it did, I rushed home, read the small (very small, almost non existent instructions) and plugged it in. It took me a couple of tries to get it to work, but it did finally appear.

I made a couple of test recordings, which played back fine. I was thrilled.

The first time I went to use it in the field, out of habit I carried a back up recorder. I'm glad I did. For while the XtremeMac did record the interview, after I detached the recorder, I couldn't get the Nano to respond to anything.

I plugged it into a wall charger after I couldn't get Itunes to recognize it, did a hard reboot per Apple's support page. Still no luck.

I called Apple support, but was informed that since the product creating the problem was from a third party vendor, I was out of luck with Apple support.

I ended up having to let the battery run itself down. As the Nano doesn't spin like the other Ipod models, this was going to be a challenge.

After many tries, I was able to get the back light on, and drain the battery over four days.

I had to than reformat the Nano, which of course wiped out my music and the interview. So much for ease and dependability of use.

I did try it once more, got the same result. Now, it just sits in my drawer with various other third party add ons which have become either redundant, or old and replaced by something better.

You may have better luck than me, however as I continue to see positive reviews from various magazines. Though I'm left to wonder if any of the reviewers actually used the recorder, or just wrote up the marketing material.

This is a great product. I have the incredibly small recorder for the Nano. Voices and musical instruments sound very life like. The bad news is that there is a lot of hiss. Not being a sound engineer I don't know if this is unavoidable or not. I use a software program called Soundsoap to clean up my recordings. It would be great if this was part of a bundle.

One star is too many.

I purchased this item with some concern based on previous reviews. One review in particular that worried me described how his Nano froze and had to be restarted only after letting the batteries die, after several days, because the recording unit software somehow had basically hi-jacked the Nano and would not shut down.

I had the EXACT same experience, and had to wait 2 days to restart my Nano (my daughters). OK, fair enough, I was warned, and sometimes SHhhh..."STUFF" happens, thats fine. Lets fix it and move on. BUT, then it gets frustrating. When I sent the item back to get my refund, they (the re-seller Electro Galaxy) are now charging me a restocking fee... for an item that sometimes works, and sometimes doesnt... SO.... if you want to avoid the excess charges, hassle of filing a complaint, and just get something that works, DO NOT buy this unit (or anything else from Electro Galaxy).

It is so easy to use that I didn't think I had done all that was necessary. Easy to record and playback (I used it to record 62 pages of script for memorization and have been playing back as I walked/drove/watched the ball game!). The device is small and flexible so is easy to stow. Judging by the fact that my husband's voice speaking to me in the background is easy to hear on the recording, think it would work to record conversations, etc.

I highly recommend this product. I am writing a book that involves conducting a large number of interviews, and I have found the micromemo to be a wonderful device to get great recordings.

I looked into buying a very expensive digital recording machine, and when I researched this product and found it for around $30 on sale, I thought, why not take a chance on it, since I already have an iPod, before I drop a bunch of money on something else. I'm very glad I did.

I have done over a dozen interviews in noisy restaurants and cafes with the micromemo exactly as it is, without any additional microphone. I was very hesitant because I didn't want to conduct an interview and it to have a problem during the fact or afterwards (such as find out that it didn't record!), but I was very pleased with the results. In fact I was surprised at how high of a quality the result was! The voices were very clear despite lots of ambient noise at the time of the interview such as background music and people from the tables next to us talking.

Everyone who saw this simple set up was very curious and surprised that it would work so well. I was anxious that it would have problems saving larger files, such as when I let it record for longer lengths of time, but I made recordings of nearly 2 hours without pressing PAUSE or RECORD & SAVE, and when I finally did, the recording instantly appeared in a complete form ready to be listened to.

My only negative comments is that the recordings are a little quiet, and when I listen to them on my iTunes (they are automatically imported into iTunes when I plug the iPod into my Mac Powerbook), I have to listen to them at full volume, which does create a hum because the sound is being amplified to such a high degree.

This isn't a problem for my purposes, but I do think that if someone was using it to record lectures in a large auditorium, an external battery powered microphone would well to increase the recording volume. I did order the Sennheiser ME3 headset as well, and that was a bust since it didn't work with the iPod at all. I'm very disappointed about that but I was also warned that it might not work.

Also the little speaker is a total joke and to hear anything you have to turn the iPod volume all the way up and press the speaker up against your ear to hear anything. I don't know why they even bothered.

The little switch on the bottom which is purely mechanical, stiff and awkward that is supposed to switch the microphone input to a line in jack, as well as into a headset jack is really crap and is a total design flaw. Other people said they had trouble with it getting back into the correct position, and after I played with it a few times, I just left it alone because I didn't want to have any problems. I would have liked a separate headphone jack so that I can listen to the recording either while I'm making it or to do a quick test.

This little thing is a little clunky, and I am a little anxious about plugging it in and pulling it out of my iPod over and over again, which I don't think can be good for either device. I did have the iPod freeze on me twice after unplugging this device and trying to play music, but that is simple fix (hold down the MENU and SELECT button for 5 seconds or so, until the device reboots).

Nevertheless, it does shock people to see me pull my whole recording set up out of my dress shirt pocket and put it on the table in front of them! People are very surprised that this thing could actually work so well! I have a 4GB iPod and I can easily record 5 hours at the highest recording setting without using up even half of the memory or battery power!

Nevertheless, this is by far the best deal imaginable! If you already have an iPod, then this is a no-brainer! At least try it out like me, and then if it's not good enough, get something more serious. But I am very glad that I didn't spend a couple hundred extra dollars when there was such an inexpensive solution right here.

Minox DM1 Multi-functions Digital Camera/Camcorder 9 in 1

Minox DM1 Multi-functions Digital Camera/Camcorder 9 in 1Disappointed by my recent purchase of a Sony Cybershot DSC-T10 digital camera I made a gift of it and bought a Minox DM1 digital camera, which is a shirt-pocket-size miracle. In addition to taking digital pictures (with an option to print the date on each shot or not, a useful basic feature that the hyped Sony Cybershot DSC-T10 lacked), it is also a video recorder and player, a web cam, a voice recorder, a flash light (!) and a quality MP3 player. The camera comes with an 128 MB internal memory (more than double the 56 MB of Sony's high-end ultracompact digital cameras) which can be augmented if you buy an easily inserted SD card of up to 1 GB capacity. Thus, you can take your pictures in the generous internal memory and store approximately 350 MP3 songs on the SD card. (Playable file formats: JPEG [EXIF2.2]/ ASF [MPEG4] / WAV / MP3 / WMA). The quality of the sound is at least as good as that of an IPOD when using the supplied earbuds but, unlike the need to buy external speakers to play an IPOD for others to listen also, the DM1 contains an amplifier and a speaker that yield an acceptable sound.

You can recharge the Li-ion battery using either the supplied AC/DC power adapter or the supplied USB cord that doubles as a USB connector and charger. The DM1 also came with A/V cables to show photos or videos on TV. Finally, unlike the IPODs that force you to buy a lot of unsupplied accessories, the DM1 came with a padded case. Also, unlike Apple's undesirable "proprietary" restrictions that code the contents of your IPOD so that you cannot use it readily as a USB flash drive, the DM1 is also a plain flash drive allowing you to move up to 1 GB of data through the SD card and another 128 MB through its internal memory. The DM1 also plays music through a car's audio system with the accessories such as a cassette connector or an FM transmitter.

CAVEAT: The DM1 is NOT a point-and-shoot camera but is more like a professional camera. If you set the shutter to Automatic you may get blurred images in low, even medium, lighting conditions. The key is to change the shutter speed from Auto to 1/125 sec. Then check the scene on the 2" LED screen and if it looks right, take the picture. If it looks dark you can increase the Exposure from 0.0 gradually up to +1.8, and/or increase the ISO value from 100 to 200, even 400. Conversely, if the picture looks too bright, reduce Exposure and ISO value. So, what you see is what you get.

DISADVANTAGES

Nobody's perfect, so the DM1 came with two disadvantages.

(a) Uncertain availability of service and parts for Minox digital cameras in the USA; however, one could check with MINOX USA Inc., 438, Willow Brook Road, Meriden, NH 03770, Tel.(603) 469-3080, before giving up. I did not get any warranty from my first US seller, but the US seller of a second DM1 camera I bought did send me a manufacturer's warranty card that still lists Leica Camera as a USA service contact, although Leica and Minox parted company in 2005. Of some warranty consolation is the legendary Minox quality that promises flawless performance.

(b) The supplied manual I got is in German with a skimpy Quick Installation Guide in English, which urges you to download an English manual from Minox's German site. The web address given produces an "error" so you then access the Minox site in Germany, click on the English flag for the English language version but you see no window for service or downloads. You do a site search for manuals and you get a list of manuals not including the DM1. Desperate you do another search for DM1 inside the Digital Cameras Manuals page and, lo and behold, at last you see Minox DM1 (deutsch) and Minox DM1 (englisch), the latter being what you need.

You download it in .pdf format and print it; however, even though it is 56 pages long it is more a collection of the DM1's numerous features and specs than instructions on how to use it. For instance it does not explain the difference between Light Meter Center (measures light in the very center of the picture) and Central (measures light in a wider area in the center of the picture). Finally, Minox's German web site invites you to submit technical questions by email. I did but got no reply. Nevertheless, as the DM1 is cute as a button, you set aside some weekend time and fiddle with it until you learn how to use it by trial and error.

These disadvantages are the price to pay for something that runs circles around Japanese ultracompact digital cameras and IPODs.

I bought it on a Lufthansa flight to Frankfurt for my wife, over her objections that she would never use it. Within a week I had to buy another memory card ! It's very easy to use almost "intuitive" in that things do what you expect them to do, and fully lives up to all the expectations created in the product blurb.

Pros in addition to all the advertised goodies, the battery is a standard phone battery, so you can get spares and recharge them in advance using a phone charger !

Cons if you're taking stills in lowish light, get some practice at standing still before hitting the shutter button !

Buy Minox DM1 Multi-functions Digital Camera/Camcorder 9 in 1 Now

I originally was looking for a cheap camera.(I own Olympus and Pentax only for price and quality). All I read was 3 star reviews on Vivitars. Then I came upon the Minox D1 and yes the instructions are in German and the charge cable is a Europe socket(can't be used in America). You can charge it using a laptop or any computer and it last.

1st. Its a camcorder, camera,mp3 player, microphone recorder, player, bright high lumens blue flashlight, and web cam.

2nd. The directions in English are little but you can figure out the Minox yourself. You simply push the mode button for what you want camera mp3 player etc.. scroll down or across the window icons with the dial and push the dial. To start cam-cording or take a picture you push the button on the side of the unit. The lens rotates full circle so you can film yourself and while still recording flip it to record your friends or whatever. This is one of the best features I have ever seen and can't help but wonder why all cameras are not like this. When your finished with the lens you rotate it to the close position which protects it. You never need a cap on the lens.

3rd. The camera does need a steady hand out of the box but the menu options allow you to create the camera you want. The thing that really killed me about this was reviewing the pictures I took. I took a picture of a far away image in the distance it came out discernible. This camera has a zoom after the pictures taken so you could zoom in after the shot. You can choose any zoom you want and print it. You ever take a picture and say boy I wish I was closer. The Minox makes you closer after the shot. That Image on zoom was crystal clear.

4Th. Everything works on this camera. Nothing is difficult but you may want to download your country origins directions from the Minox site.

The Minox D1 for 49 bucks is killer, this multi-entertainment tool does is backed up by the examples Minox installed on this unit. In the right hands and for people who read and are willing to download directions the Minox is a steal. I feel like a thief. This is one of those products missed by the masses. Is it an Ipod, 49 bucks come on. I gave this 4 stars because Minox D1 should of had some Wi-Fi and the screen a little bit bigger. Those features would make it 5 stars. For a he or she who is knowledgeable of camera's D1's a little but sturdy product.

Remember I was looking for a cheap 25.00 camera which would satisfy me, none exist, so the ante went up to 50 bucks. The Minox came to my door with the idea of something that can be abused and not be missed because it could be replace. I can't replace this Minox. The Minox is used more than my Olympus or Pentax. Granted the Olympus and Pentax kick its butt in picture quality but your going to pay $50,00 to $200.00 or more for them. This is a $49.00 camera that does more than anything else out there for "that" price effectively, 5 STARS! period! If your someone who doesn't own a cell phone, Minox is for you. (No Internet.not a phone). Thank god, it's yours....

I does all it's modes well but none great. For $48 dollars that's all you get.

problems ac adapter may be German 240 two prong and English manual is a download from Minox

It does have a lot of cables witch is almost worth the money.

Want Minox DM1 Multi-functions Digital Camera/Camcorder 9 in 1 Discount?

I have given this a good test and I have to say I am not impressed. Even when I am very careful to hold it steady, the pictures are still fuzzy. The audio recording is not clear. The photos and videos are about what you would expect from a cheap cell phone. Each function works about as well as a single function product you would get for $9.95. It is a jack-of-all-trades, but master of none. On a positive note, if you consider it as primarily a pocket media player with all the other functions as free extras it is not a bad deal, but it will never replace your iPod.

Sony DVP-NC80V/B SACD DVD Changer, Black

Sony DVP-NC80V/B SACD DVD Changer, Black
  • Instruction Manual, Remote Control, AV Cable, AA Battery x 2 (for remote), 110V USA AC Power Cord, Sony USA Warranty
  • Dolby Digital and dts Optical/Coaxial Output / Dolby Digital and dts 5.1 Channel Output
  • Multi-Disc Resume- 40 Discs
  • TV Virtual Surround - 4 Surround Modes
  • Digital Video EQ

Thus far, I can offer up only two caveats: the DVPNC80V's less-than-perfect display and its limited random programming capability. As most of your settings will probably be handled via your monitor (assuming you're using the deck for video and not just audio playback), this isn't really a problem. Even though the onboard display needs to be pretty much at eye level to be seen clearly (as another reviewer noted), it is sufficient.

As for random or "shuffle" play -and this is a big one, in my opinion -Sony still doesn't get it; how can they produce a multi-disk deck that does so much so well and STILL refuse to offer the option of random play on all five disks??? Once again, you can only shuffle a single bay at a time. Fortunately (for me), I'm using this player primarily for video and SACD audio, without all that much need for random play (I have another changer that fills the bill in that respect). Still...

All in all, though, this is quite a remarkable unit -especially at the price -and is well worth considering if you're in the market for a "do-it-all" changer. Both sound and picture are superb, with a multitude of options, especially disk compatibility: a terrific value, really.

Buy Sony DVP-NC80V/B SACD DVD Changer, Black Now

As other reviewers have pointed out this DVD changer is hard to beat for features and price. However, it's not perfect. I bought the 80V to replace a failing 3-year-old Sony 5-disc changer (the model number escapes me) and I'm slightly disappointed. The 80V has a terrible LED display -it's dim and recessed, as if hiding in a cave, almost useless. This changer is also SLOW to turn on (it displays W-E-L-C-O-M-E slowly, letter by letter, each time you fire it up). And when you put in a DVD it takes much longer than my old Sony before it starts to play. You have to sit through a 20-30 second "Loading" message before the disc even starts. I can't knock the price or features, but after 3 months of trying to get used to it I'm looking for something better. My old Sony was much more responsive, so I don't know what they were thinking. Once the 80V gets going it's fantastic, but life is too short to waste on "Loading." :-)

This unit has so far surpassed all of my expectations. As the description states, it can truly support practically every format out on the market, including the coveted "DVD+R DL" (dual layer disc's 8.5gb's)& "DVD+RW". Other cool features include progressive scan & resume. Progressive scan means if your tv can support a higher viewing/picture clarity (as dvd's are intended to produce) this player can decode the signal to produce brilliant, vibrant, razor shap images. The one con that this unit doesn't have, is a built in dolby digital/dts decorder. No biggie tho.. As long as your receiver has one built in it, your all set. This unit pairs up magnificently to my Phillips 42 inch plasma (42pf9956/37) so much so, that my other previous units (2 panasonic& 1 jvc) pale in comparison.

Oh happy day.

Want Sony DVP-NC80V/B SACD DVD Changer, Black Discount?

I chose this for two of its features: the 5-disk changer that lets us watch different disks without having to get up to swap them in/out; and its ability to resume playing a movie after being turned off or using other disks. It does both of these very, very well.

The excellent sound and picture quality are not surprising, but that's because I also have the single-disk version of this player and knew what to expect. Otherwise, the A/V quality would have been a pleasant surprise.

Out of curiosity, I burned 100 MP3 albums to a DVD, using about 3.5GB of space. The unit plays them well, actually enhancing the sound beyond what I'd expect from MP3. The disk will play for a couple of days before having to repeat. A nice bonus.

One small omission: the unit can't list the disks that are in it, so unless you remember what they are and where, you have to try each one to see its contents. As other people have said, "Loading" is fairly slow, so a top-top menu should have been included.

Regarding the annoyingly bright blue and white lights: you can place black electrical tape over most of their surfaces, until you can see a sliver of the lights without being blinded by them. Also, they may turn off once a disk begins to play, depending on the disk's content.

The "resume" feature can be turned off in the menus, for people who don't want an "old" disk to restart in the middle. Of course, I think the ability to remember lots of disks is one of the unit's best features.

The unit's available in black or silver. Since it's rather large, black turned out to be better for us, because it's almost invisible when tucked into a rack of equipment.

We still have a Sony 5-disk CD changer from the 1980's. It still works (after almost 20 years), looks a lot like this DVD changer, but cost more than twice as much. It'll be nice if this DVD changer lasts that long.

First off, I don't have a TV. So, I could care less about the video or playback quality.

What I care about? Sound.

First off, this unit plays audio, whether it be commercial encodings or mp3s, off of CD, CD-R/W, DVD+R/W, DVD-R/W, SACD, and DVD-A (well, yeah, it's a DVD player...).

Why should you care? well, you've probably got a few gigs worth of mp3s from iTunes, or whatever, and maybe you've ripped a bunch of your commercial Audio CDs to mp3.. well.. maybe you might want to burn off all of it to one DVD-R. merely place it into the carrousel, and all 50 (up to 200 on one disc) albums are available. and they sound FANTASTIC.

Also, this unit outputs to either coaxial digital or digital optical. (Save the cash, and use the included RCA A/V cable as your coaxial digital cable.)

For the money, no other unit touches the feature list of this player. Comparing the other carousel units (Onkyo, Panasonic, ...) none of them STATE that they will play mp3 off of a DVD disc, and most don't even support both burnable dvd formats.

For me, there was NO QUESTION WHATSOEVER as to what unit would be the source for my audio system. I can pop in 5 DVDs of Mp3'd albums.. and have an all night party.

Issues:

The lcd is hard to see if you are close, and at a tight angle.. but, step back 6 feet and you can read it just fine, so, small potatoes.

The LCD display doesn't display the directory/file names while playing, on the 'track' number. (difficult unless you printout a list of directories on a data DVD/CD).

Notes:

You can replace discs during play by hitting 'exchange'. (wish people that reviewed stuff would read manuals before posting)

In Data disc mode, it counts jpgs as tracks, so keep that in mind when navigating with no video output.

I only give it 4 stars because it is still called a DVD player. Sony (or someone) should be smart and just make something called a media player... that should handle being a video source and a audio source.. and give decent hardware LCD output.. the last thing I want is a huge power-sucking tv having to be on to flip through some audio files on a disc.

Video Magician DV/AV/TV 3IN1 +video Bay Cyberlink Sw

Video Magician DV/AV/TV 3IN1 +video Bay Cyberlink SwI was looking for front-mounted video connections for a drive bay, and this one can't be beat for the money! You could also use the rear PCI connector only, or use the drive bay setup as an external box. I like variety! The software is ULead Video Studio, which is ok for basic home movies. You get all the wiring connectors you could possibly need.

Oh, and as happy as I am with this so far -I haven't even hooked it up as a t.v. yet! I've been busy making home video DVDs.

I absolutely loved this unit when i had it on my XP machine, so I figured it would be the same when I upgraded to a Vista computer. Apparently the drivers were not compatible for it. I scoured the internet looking for them and could not find them wherever. I felt dis-heartened to think I spent so much money only for it to go to waste. On a last option, I contacted Kworld tech support. Within a few hours, they replied with links to Vista drivers. I was up and running within 30 minutes. Thank goodness for small wonders. Bought this thinking it will be better to have hardware encoding. But the driver doesn't work with window 7 64bit. The interal firewire connector is in an angle and the firewire cable supplied is too large for the available space. Maybe it will work with xp. Buy at your own risk.

Pen Camera with vedio function, Captures HQ 640 x 480 Pixel Video at smooth 30 Frames Per Second

Pen Camera with vedio function, Captures HQ 640 x 480 Pixel Video at smooth 30 Frames Per SecondInstructions are in Korean only. I will probably never know how this thing works.

I finally purchased a WINN Mini DV and it works much better. And, the instructions are in English.

Works great, and the built in usb connector is a big advantage over all the others that have to use a usb cable. And a dab of soap on the light keeps it nice and stealthy, but still lets you see which mode you are in(video/photo).

Samsung SDE-4001 8 CH Security System with 6 Cameras

Samsung SDE-4001 8 CH Security System with 6 CamerasI owned this product for almost a year and so far it works. It should probably get 4.5 stars because I do believe Samsung can improve it. The one star rating is unfair expectations based on the price point. I owned other cameras with high resolution and professional grade DVR and they cost a lot more. I used this in conjunction with this Samsung camera system. It is great for entrances and inside the house where it is well lit.

What I like:

Easy do it yourself security system. The day time picture quality is excellent and color is amazing. There are two things that affect image resolution: one is the cameras' tv lines or pixels and the DVR recording capability. You can set the recording to be better for the cameras that you need to be the sharpest and back off on the ones that are not as critical. For example, choose CIF for best picture and higher record rate for real time at least 30 fps.

The best cameras out there are 700 TV lines and DVR records at 720 x 480 pixels. This system can come pretty close.

Easy to view back captured video that are recorded based on motion (save disc space) or continuous. It has a remote and on screen menu is intuitive. I like the Cat 5 wiring instead of those BNC and power supply connectors that most used.

For the money, it is very good value.

What could be improved:

The night vision is poor but you would pay more money for cameras with a lot more IR LEDs with longer range. The work around this is to put a motion triggered light and light up the area and the camera can capture higher resolution or you can install IR LED flood lights.

The network setup is tricky but it is tricky for other camera system tooso you need tech support to help here.

Camera is not vandal proof but then again, for the money one should not expect it to be. There is no adjusting on the focus and focal length but again you would find these features on high end cameras. Frankly, if you are not technical, you would probably be frustrated trying to adjust too many features. It has a BNC port so it can accept at least one of those higer resolution cameras but Samsung has a disclaimer.

Overall a huge disappointment. After a few months of use I've dropped this review down to 1 star. It seems that Samsung has completely abandoned this product as there is virtually no support or information. Here is what I have learned and collected for anyone still trying to make this work for you. Be thankful as you will not find this information easily.

The login you choose for the DVR must be only 8 characters. Manual does NOT tell you this. If you plan on using the program Smartview 3.0. After troubleshooting 1/2 a day I found this to be why I could not connect with my 16 character(secure)password I set. 8 character password is piss poor for security but if you keep it on your local LAN no big deal.

Smartview is a nice program and does everything you can do on the unit but after a while for whatever reason the application with crash on you at start up. After a few installs on new computer system it always eventually will crash. Possibly some Microsoft update who knows but Tech support will not reply to you and when talking to a person you realize they are absolutely clueless as to how to fix it. The software on the unit (mouse & on-screen keyboard) is seriously ridiculous and tedious to use. If the software would work I would add 3 stars. Thats how badly it cripples your system not being able to use SmartViewer.

Setup your DVR IP address in your router to static outside of your domain. If you have 192.168.1 through 192.168.1.100 then set it to above that for example 192.168.1.200. Forward ports 8000-8160 and 554-558 both TCP (not TCP/UDP) to your desktop IP address (DVR defaults) No other numbers will work so only use those. I purchased a SED-1006R for sound with video recording at my front door, had to get replaced because sound was not working so got it replaced. Sound from the unit must be powered by a separate funky one plug speaker system, however sound to my desktop via SmartView works ok although the sound is mono not stereo.

Motion detection is ok, though I've seen better. The squares are a bit too large and make it difficult to cover finite regions. My biggest complaint is glare at night (car lights) that trigger motion events. A shiny car and or wet pavement can reflect and trigger events easily even on the lowest detection setting.

I originally had it set for each camera to record at highest settings (4CIFL(L) 15FPS Level 8 ) with just motion events but have since changed 3 camera's set for continuous record and 1 motion event with same quality settings. The hard drive capacity right now is 20 day's recorded at 800Gbs full so roughly 23 days with 4 camera's 3 with continuous, 1 event. I would venture to guess that with 8 cameras you would get a week with say 6 continuous and 2 event. On the other hand based on what I've observed looking at drive usage you could easily get 3-4 months set to motion event with 8 cameras if you have normal activity (cats, birds, occasional insects around camera. I plan to water proof the ethernet connections as they are outside and susceptible to moisture in the connectors. Heatwrap tubing and electrical tape should work fine.

I wanted this product to work but I'm bailing on this for something far better.

Some reviews mention the poor video quality of these Samsung cameras, but I believe the problem resides in the DVR video output. I came to this conclusion after connecting an additional camera of good quality to the DVR, and the video output turned out to be the same. On the positive side, the software is very intuitive and the feature-set is absolutely useful; the build quality of the cameras is also strong...But again, the poor quality of the video output is a deal breaker. I would not recommend this camera set and wouldn't buy again.

Easy install, one wire connection to camera. Provides both feed and power..Nice. DVR is easy to use. Lots of options. Day video great. Not so great night. The system uses 2 power supplies, co be prepared to use a multi connection cord. It is had a monitor for the price would be a hard system to beat. I feel it does everything i need and want it to do. Internet connection can be tricky. I didn't have a LAN connection in the closet where its installed, so without built in wifi i needed a "bridged router"...(receives wireless signal and has plugs to connect LAN lines). Which works great. CPU Fan runs all the time, so its bit noisy so consider that during your research. Camera's could be smaller, but not bad. They might look dated in a couple of years.

All thress of these systems have given me nothing but problems. Im disgusted with samsung. I buy samsung everything and the security system, THE DIY SECURITY SYSTEM, IS THE BIGGEST JOKE. I have one set up in a buisness location and it didnt come with the wire to hook up to a tv. You would think it would include everything but no visual or audio connections in site. They give you a ethernet cord...very helpful samsung. Had to send the owner to get the cords. It finally worked. Next system was totally different. Still didnt come with visual and audio wires but we had sone on hand this time. Suprise!!! We need a video link, that the box or instructions never said anything about or didnt include. Thanks again samsung. My last one I set up was tonight...and my very last samsung that I will ever work with again. The box had 6 cameras...one of the had corrosion in it...wasnt the same plug and the barcide sticker was coming off. No biggie..we'll use one less camera. Hook up the dvr through a vga to set it up, remote d9esnt work, dvr doesnt work, nothing responds to s***! Call technical support the idiot pretty much readme everything the instructions say and say return your systems. AFTER SETTING UP ALL OF IT THROUGH A PROFESSIONAL! Im sick to my stomach of how much money was put into this and theres nothing they can do about it. I will never give a penny to samsung ever again. Mark my words.

Marantz SR4023 Stereo Receiver

Marantz SR4023 Stereo Receiver
  • Large EI core transformer
  • Pre-out/Main-in terminals
  • Speaker A/B switching
  • MM Phono preamplifier
  • 80 Watts x 2

After owning higher end units before, I purchased this due to financial necessity and a desire to simplify my life. I did not want to go with a manufacturer known mostly for their home theater gear, so I went with Marantz due to their fine reputation on the more musical side of things. Plus, they were the only company that had the right combination of quality gear with the features I wanted at a price I could afford.

This nice receiver has all the features any audio buff could want and then some, including pre-out/main-in jacks and a subwoofer output. Sound quality is also excellent, although I remember being used to a little warmer sound. The 80 watts P/C is more than enough for most rooms, and this unit can handle 4 Ohm speakers with ease. It barely got warm during a listening session with my speakers.

The phono stage isn't the last word in performance, but gets the job done. It audibly buzzs a bit past -30 on the volume control while, but this was mostly unnoticeable while playing vinyl. Also, I heard no outside interference coming through unlike a so-called higher end unit I once owned. A metal screw, rather then the plastic one they used for the ground wire would have been preferred, especially at this price.

The remote is well thought out an easy to use, but it looks a bit similar from both ends. Also, I would have preferred an old fashioned rotating volume nob, with a little indicator light over the goofy -50 to +50 digital volume control, which is confusing and meaningless to most old school people like myself.

The tuner's performance is very good for the money, although I've never had anything much better to compare. An old feature this unit has allowing you to put a station that doesn't come in very well to mono for better sound quality is a welcome return for me. ALL receivers/tuners should have this (are you listening you modern A/V producers???).

Build quality is excellent, although past receivers had full metal face plates. I'm not fooled by Marantz' attempts to justify their cost cutting by hyping it up as "aluminum/resin enforced front panel", although their design is more cleaner and attractive than the older flat panels.

All in all, this may be the best stereo receiver available at the moment from a major manufacturer (the few that are available), and I'd recommend it to anyone who wants to go that route that needs a decent phono stage and doesn't care about multi-channel. The Marantz SR-4023 doesn't do anything extra-ordinarily spectacular, but it doesn't do anything wrong either!

I owned a 2252B in late 70's early 80's. loved the sound but sold it when I got tired of neighbors, police, landlords, and having to move so many times! I just could not resist cranking it. Over the years I have bought at least ten receivers trying to find THE SOUND I LOVED SO MUCH. Clean, clear bass, mids and treble that were lifelike and not too bright or shrill. WOW DO I LOVE THIS RECEIVER! More than enough power. SOUNDS FANTASTIC! I wanted old school stereo, as if the band is in front of me. I have it hooked to two yamaha YST-SW315 subs and Polk LSi9's. If you want to be the envy of all who hear this setup don't waste a ton of money, This is all you need, Just add DVR and OPPO Blu-ray Player. I also had my Marantz 6300 turntable restored and added a Grado platinum cart. I'm set for life. Oh ya, don't forget room treatments.

I bought the Marantz Receiver as a gift. I was able to set it up easily with two sets of speakers, a CD carousel, and the audio/video of a cable box, and DVD player for switching between all the devices with one remote control. It sounds very good. I thought the price was a bit high, but it was ideal for what I wanted to do.

I don't know. Seems more economic and may solve several overheating problems as well as grounding of especially tuners. Worth trying!
