This small set meets our needs perfectly. It was purchased to replace our trusty 5 in B&W analog at the time of the digital conversion. We use this set only in the bathroom in the morning to watch news and sports while getting ready for work, so we are not with concerned with receiving scores of channels. It took about 9 days to arrive using the free shipping option. The set was well packaged and unlikely to be damaged with routine handling. Setup was a breeze following stepwise instructions (with pictures) on a quick setup card. After the digital conversion the auto scan quickly picked up 14 over-the-air channels (which included all 6 major channels in this area) using only the provided very small HD antenna. The antenna cable connects at the top of the set rather obtrusively; this could have been better designed. We have not tried a cable connection for comparison. Reception for the major channels is good. The picture is clear and sharp, far better than our old 5 in analog set, but it is far from the quality of our 46 in Sony LCD. The picture varies somewhat from channel to channel, some being a little dark and the next a little too light with a washed-out appearance. This can be corrected fairly well using the brightness and contrast controls which are easily accessible via the full function remote. The sound is adequate for this small set and the way we use it: in a bathroom, with the water running. We did not set our expectations unrealistically high.

We highly recommend this 9 in digital TV for use in a kitchen, bath, workshop, etc. for over-the-air reception in a tight space.

Although its 9 inch screen is larger than LCD TVs in it price range, the picture quality is poor and very dark. No amount of adjusting will help. The sound from the tiny speakers is actually worse than the picture. I do NOT recommend this product.

We receive over-the-air only. We live in Houston and have strong signals. Reception with the little antenna that came with the TV is very poor. Reception with rabbit ears is still poor but better. Reception with our large attic antenna was good.

The digital converter box we purchased for our other TV receives all stations strong with rabbit ears, so I was disappointed that the TV only picked up about half of the stations using the same rabbit ears.

Also, I don't know what is HDTV about it. Especially since the resolution is only 640 x 234.

Anyway, the picture is decent and it's a decent little TV if you've got a strong enough signal or are just using it for a monitor.

First I would like to respond to several negative reviews. When programming for available channels make sure the antenna is located where it is receiving a strong signal---just a slight rotation can effect the signal. Take your time, get it right the first time, remembering that digital transmissions are very directional. I used the small antenna that came with the TV, then tried a larger set of rabbit ears----could not tell much difference (I live twenty miles out of Phoenix, AZ where most of the transmitters are located). For my location I can get just about all of the channels that are available, about the same as other TV's in the house that I put rabbit ears on. Realizing that this is a hand held portable TV I find the picture to be as good as any small screen with this resolution. Tried hooking it up to the rooftop antenna and I got everything. I get an excellent picture, bright enough to watch outside, I will have to agree that the sound is a little "tinny" but, what should I expect from a unit this size. There is an earphone jack for private viewing. This TV is loaded with features such as, on screen program guide, program info, time, etc....I have a 12v adapter that will allow me to use it for camping and emergency use. Have seen same size TV's at B&M stores for almost twice the price, this is a true value! I would think that if you are considering this TV, try one of your digital TV's on a set of rabbit ears to see what the signal is like in your area. Hope this provides a bit of info. that might be helpful in your decision.

The brand Onkyo has been around almost as long as some of the other great Japanese Hi-Fi companies (Sony, Pioneer, Kenwood,etc). they have a great reputation as builders of fine quality stereo gear, as far back as the 1970s.

I havent had alot of experience with all their current product line, but checked out some of their AV multi-channel receivers, and WOW, they are built beautifully...I was very impressed,everything weighs like, 70 lbs, the cases are metal, well sheilded, the face plates are heavy machined aluminum, etc...Im happy to see that there is still HIGH QUALITY stuff being built out there, when most mass market brand equipment you see at Best But is just lightweight, cheap, plasticky CRAP. I am a vintage stereo/ hi-fi collector, and was determined when I went shopping to find a Blu-Ray player that had the quality look and feel of a high-end stereo product.

i have some very cool vintage Pioneer, Kenwood,Dual Turntables,that kind of cool, OLD SCHOOL gear...and this stuff is made like a tank...its from the 70s, before the motto became "Lets build everything as cheaply as possible" and most of the DVD or BluRay players, or low priced receivers you see out there are CRAP...they feel like cheap, plasticky junk.They work OK (or NOT LOL), but they just dont look like they fit in with a nice stereo or High End Home Theater system.

If you care about this, and have a high quality stereo /home theatre system, and want a BluRay player that matches the SOLID old school feel of VINTAGE quality gear, or high quality MODERN home theater gear, then this player will probably appeal to you. Its built like a friggin TANK! It has a nice, THICK, black, adonized aluminum face plate, and the whole unit feels like its very well designed and the build quality is fantastic! The whole case is solid metal, and according to most reviews Ive read, the unit is very well damped, and immune to external vibration. it also features a very advanced D to A converter.

Quality wise, Its like an AUDI or Mercedes...or a Lexus...it just feels RIGHT! Its like when you slam the door on a lightweight, crappy cheap car door, and the whole car rattles. Well, there are plenty of DVD/Blu Ray players the mass market stuff you see at Best Buy, Im sure you know what Im talking about! This piece feels like high end VINTAGE stereo gear, heavy and beautiful to look at, and it feels nice, even the controls, everything, has that mmm....nice!....feel to it.

So far, Ive found it works beautifully, both with streaming ( Netflix, etc) as well as playing BluRays and DVDs. The picture is gorgeous, with rich vibrant colors, and the sound is also excellent!

One thing Ive found, none of the higher price,better quality players are "WI-FI ready", you have to pop an extra 60 to 80 bucks for a "wireless bridge" which is just a little box, like a ROKU box size, that basically connects the internet in your house, to the BluRay player. You just plug it into the BluRay player with an ethernet cable, and thats pretty much it: youre ready to GO!

I know some people think this is kind of a pain in the ass...When I first realized NONE of the better quality players have this feature, I was confused...but now, I get it. The cheap players have it built in. My LG BD 590 has WiFi built in, and I actually think that is a real nice player for the money (Theyre still out there, brand new, even though discontinued, for like, 200-230.00 bucks on Amazon.) But this Onkyo player is a whole different thing. Its like comparing a Kia to a BMW! Any of the top players, by Oppo, Denon, Marantz, Yamaha, or Onkyo, DONT have the WI-Fi "built in", so you have to decide if buying the wireless bridge is worth it. At first, I was pissed off, then I said, Ok, WTF, and bought it and hooked it up, and Im very pleased!

People complain that feature for feature, this player doesnt have every single bell and every single whistle it could...so, I suggest compare each player, and then decide what features you really need...for me, again, priority is i wanted a nice, SOLIDLY BUILT quality player, that plays DVDs, CDs, and Blu Rays effortlessly and brilliantly, and with the addition of the necessary WIRELESS BRIDGE, BAM! It plays Blurays and CDs so I guess it plays DVDs as well. Twin HDMIs are a real boon, with one output going to the surround sound receiver and the other direct to the 60-inch plasma TV. A sturdy unit in a big case, not sure whether the latter is genuinely necessary or used to justify the price tag. Am going to experiment on the quality of CD playback using the analogue outputs and some high quality hifi interconnects, see if that improves the audio or whether, as I suspect, the Klipsch Reference 42-II front speakers are the audio "bottleneck". Major boon, apart from the dual HDMIs, over the Panasonic it's replacing is the removal of the infernal Pansonic's "touchpad" remote. Someone in Panasonic's parking lot is reported to have committed ritual hare-kiri (sp) over that one....

Now, I'm not going to buy a Blu-ray player knowing it lacks certain features ahead of time and then bash it for lacking them in a review as that would be stupid.

Since my Samsung television has wireless streaming and does it extremely well all that's required of my Blu-ray player is to have excellent built quality/workmanship, upconvert DVD as best as possible and of course playback Blu-rays. The Onkyo Blu-ray player comes thru with flying colors on two of the three.

The Qdeo processor lives up to its reputation with Blu-ray playback but there's nothing special with DVD playback and at this price it should be exceptional at upconverting DVD. I'm reluctantly returning this player and giving the oppo 93 a try.

I like Onkyo's new receivers and I have two of their recent ones so I actually am a fan of Onkyo. But, after the fiasco today with this player I had to return it. It wouldn't play the first DVD I put and then it wouldn't eject the disc when I pressed eject a few times. I mean, come on, really? So, I unplugged it, and plugged it back in and then it would eject.

The DVD I put in is standard and plays on all other DVD players I ever had. So, you can't blame the disc. Disc was carefully placed in and did not get stuck. Basically, the unit is a lemon pure and simple.

I take my security pretty seriously. Be it cyber security, home security, identity theft security, etc, etc...I've taken proactive steps harden myself and my family as a target. For that reason, I've always wanted to have a robust home video surveillance system. Having bought my first house (been a lifelong renter until then) a few months back, I figured now was the time. So, my research began.

Home surveillance seems to break down between two camps: IP cameras that operate over your home network...or CCTV (Closed curcuit TV) surveillance. Defender builds CCTV systems.

I have had 3 different models of the very popular Panasonic IP cameras in the past. They were ok, but did not have night-vision IR capabilities, their video storage capability was very limited, and they were rather complex...especially when it came to managing multiple cameras. I would classify them more as nanny-cam in terms of their capabilities, rather than true security systems.

I had looked at some of the other more advanced IP cameras, particularly the Sharx Security cameras. The Sharx cameras seem to be extremely capable, get great reviews, and their customer service is reputable. They appear to be the best IP Cameras out there, and I strongly considered them...but I ultimately decided to get a CCTV system for several reasons. Primarily of which was cost. I wanted 5 cameras, and with the Sharx running ~$400 each...it was prohibitive for me. But, if you have only 1 or 2 spots you want monitored, definately give the Sharx cameras a look.

I eventually decided to go with this Defender DVR system for my particular situation. They routinely get pretty solid reviews and their systems seemed very well integrated. I bought the one with the four cameras included because I wanted to use a different camera than the one that is included (more on that later).

While it is fairly time consuming to setup all the cameras and string the wires, the setup of the DVR system itself is pretty straight-forward. The DVR and its corresponding user interface is VERY good. It's quite intuitive and simple. Searching for events during playback is easy and quick, and there are multiple options for live viewing. I would give the DVR itself 5 stars for recording, playback, and searching. It really is that good.

The cameras included with the Defender system are simply ok. Not great. Not bad. Just ok. The clarity is pretty decent, the IR illumination at night is acceptable, but the color accuracy is lacking. Brown looks blue, gray looks green, etc. They'll do a good job of detecting movement and recording the event...but getting an accurate description of people and/or vehicles could be challenging. I'd give the cameras 3 stars.

I've actually purchased several of these cameras to use with this defender system.VideoSecu 600TVL Outdoor Day Night Vision Home Security Surveillance Camera Vandal Proof 1/3" SONY CCD with Power Supply B6Q. While these are more expensive than the cameras included with the defender system, they are more clear, have better IR, and the color accuracy is much better. Not to mention that they are more stylish when mounting outdoors...which greatly enhances the WAF (Wife Acceptability Factor) of having a bunch of cameras mounted outside.

While I like this system, and have no buyers remorse...by far the greatest WEAKNESS of this system is the mobile integration and the security of remote viewing. Enabling remote viewing requires you to open a port on your router and enable Active X...but it only supports short, weak passwords. Furthermore it does not support HTTPS, so there is no encryption. I can only imagine that hacking the password on this DVR would be pretty simple...and sniffing the IP traffic would be pretty easy, as well. Granted, the odds of your home security DVR being targeted is probably pretty slim. But...if you believe yourself to be a likely target, or are borderline paranoid like myself...it should make you nervous, especially if you plan to access the DVR from public wifi. To get around these weaknesses, I use a PPTP VPN server (A spare DD-WRT router I had lying around). That way my DVR is behind a much stronger password, and the traffic is encrypted.

Overall, it's a good system, especially if you want to use it as a stand alone system in your house that you will check in the event that something happens. For a few more dollars, you can get better performance by getting better cameras. I'd recommend buying the DVR by itself and getting the cameras separate. I would also caution against using the remote viewing capability outside of your own network...the security (cyber-wise) is questionable at best.

This did the trick for covering all the ingress/egress points of my home. The video display is ok during the day and night vision depends on if you are getting glare from the night vision lights. I have one camera that was perfect at night, but a small adjustment caused glare from an overhead beam that dramatically shortened the distance I could see and caused major wash out of the image. Unfortunately, I couldn't get that sweet spot back, but was able to correct the issue for the most part.

I did purchase an extension cable for one camera out in front of the house. Keep in mind that if you are using the cameras that come with this kit you have to use the Defender extension cables, not a standard BNC CCTV cable. Defender DF10W 60ft Camera Extension Wire

The biggest frustration with this product is lack of support on iPhone. The app they recommend is absolutely terrible and doesn't work. I really wanted this to work on my phone, but I didn't test it out before spending the hours setting up the system in my home. I wish I would have and I would have returned the product.

The only thing i can say bad about this product is the flimsy camera mounting brackets. after using some of the foam shipped with the product, the camera's actually stay in set place, instead of finding their balanced weight when top mounted or shooting skyward when bottom mounted. Oh, yea don't pull too much on the 60ft camera cord, they will break internally. out of 1200ft only 1, 60ft section didn't work. Other than that, i think its worth every penny, compared to namebrand systems, such as honeywell or sony.

I specifically purchased this unit because of the e-mail alert feature, and was very disappointed to find out it wasn't true. The product is advertised to generate e-mail alerts to up to 7 e-mail addresses. I have yet to get it to work with one address, and more than one is impossible. This is a quote from the Defender support center; "Unfortunately there is no resolution to the issue, it appears there was a typo in the manual and on the website. We are looking into resolving this discrepancy right now but unfortunately, I cannot see a resolution to this issue in the near future, if at all, so if this will not meet your needs you may want to look into returning for a refund."

If you don't require this feature the unit appears to operate normally. It could not have been a "typo", it was obviously false advertising.

I used to own 4 Logitech WiLife wireless cameras. They don't work anymore since I replaced my ATT 2Wire moden/router, which went out a few month ago. I replaced it with the Linksys EA6500 now but this new router won't recognize the WiLife cameras. After calling to the Logitech and the Linksys tech support services, they won't be able to help me. Thus, I decided to find a new camera system.

Based on cheap price and some reviews, I decided with this product. The pictures are bad. During the day, my green trees and lawn will be seen as purple. A person with a black shirt seen as purple. Green car will be seen as green. At night, the night vision is fine. The pictures are just distorted for further distance. You won't be able to see whom or what kind of car is parked in front of your house. However, you know someone is in front of your house that for sure.

Unless, like me, you want a cheap product then this is for you. If you want a better picture quality, this is not for you. Find a better products out there.

AMAZING! Cant say enough. Buy one and be amazed with the quality and performance of this little thing. This is a great package with $50 or more in extras for the same price. i've not had time to really delve into all the features, or even use it for the purpose for which i bought it (audio for film), however what i have played with sounds fantastic. for someone like me,(pro) i don't find it too complicated to get around and it's fairly intuitive. with that said, if you're new to audio of don't need bells and whistles, i'd look into a 'lesser version'. if you know what you're doing and want an exceptionally good sounding and flexible recorder, this is your unit. i have found it to be very handy just to have lying around to grab for a quick "idea" catcher for songwriting.

it is (or at least seems to be ) a sturdy unit, solid feeling, not flimsy. but buy a better carrying case and an extra sd card for more storage.

my only beef if not with the recorder itself, but with the cubase le software that was bundled with it. NOT intuitive, NOT easy to set up, NOT as easy to use as they would have you believe, but the customer service from steinberg was pretty prompt and friendly (but still was unable to fix my problem).

I offered to record video at a conference as a favor to a friend, and was looking into how to bring audio into my camera. I saw some camera-specific boxes which would take XLR from the board and bring it into the camera, but got the H4n instead, since it can work standalone and as a camera input adapter.

The best recommendation for me was that the pro audio guys at the venue were using H4n as part of their own gear to make audio-only recordings -a business run by someone who has been doing audio recordings at shows and concerts for decades. I felt like I had made the right choice -and conveniently he showed me the optimal settings to use as well. I love the Zoom. It is compact, easy to use, and records really high quality sound for the price. The on-board mics sound good. It accepts XLR cable and 1/4 inch jacks. My only complaint is that when I plug my unit in to AC power, I get an unbearable amount of 60 cycle hum in my recording. I can avoid this by running it on battery power, which is what I do. However, sometimes, I'd like to have it plugged in so that I don't have to worry about whether my batteries will last through a shoot or an interview or a concert. The battery life is very long, and I haven't had trouble yet, but still, it's one more thing that I have to concern myself with.

As a video producer/videographer/audio operator, beginning in the days or separate camera and audio operators, to the miniaturized world of all-in-one camcorders, it's nice to be moving back in the other direction of having separate operators. The Zoom H4n is a great tool for those looking for an inexpensive way to capture good field (or studio) audio while capturing video on the Canon 5D. Altough the record level controls are not optimum, I have found the captured audio from the H4n to be of very good quality and easy to work with. My team prefers to use wireless lavs or boom mics for the audio capture. I would recommend the H4n as a good tool for small to medium end producers and production houses that do not want to spend larger amounts of money on audio capabilities.

This started out well, but unfortunately didn't end that way. It made some good quality digital stereo recordings before cassettes started to jam in the drive. The final straw was when I had to unscrew part of the top and pull the cassette out with pliers. I was fortunately able to save the cassette, but I was worried.

The instructions were written by a non-native English speaker, and are worthless, but it's obvious how the device works. The drive mechanism looks funky though. You insert a cassette vertically into a slot on the top, but the cassette has to go in at an angle. There's one large knob on top that you push in to engage or fast forward the cassette. There's no reverse, and you can't see the tape when it's playing, so there's no way to see how much tape is left to play.

You have to know how to use the Audacity software, which I fortunately did. The instructions don't help, and there's a tiny CD that came with the device that was too small for my computer's disc drive; I've never seen one like it before. I downloaded the Audacity software from the web site and used their tutorials to figure out how the conversion process works. Audacity is amazing.

The case is solidly constructed, and has a cool blue ring around the volume control that lights up when you turn it on. The speakers aren't that good, but they're good enough to listen to the music while you're converting cassettes. By the way, you don't need a converter to convert cassettes to digital music on your computer; you just need a cassette player with a stereo output and the Audacity software, which you can download free from Audacity's site. This is the second brand of converter I have tried, however (I also tried the one made by Ion, which was useless,) because I assumed the cassette drive mechanism would be of high quality and would give me the best quality sound. I was wrong in both cases, but Amazon has been great about accepting them back for a refund. Now I have to decide which cassette player to buy so I can finish converting my cassette collection; I'm really, really hoping the third time's a charm.

I'm very happy with the product. It's the instructions that leave a lot to be desired. The instructions are not up to date with the program you use in your computer. After 3 days I gave up and a friend came over and managed to figure out what was next from the point I kept getting stuck at. One thing I reccomend is to keep a written time log for each song as sometimes they are hard to divide as one song ends and the next begins since some fade into the beginning of the next song. Otherwise the player performs flawlessly and produces quality recordings.

This item came quickly. The instructions are very short and written in poor english. The instructions even say that no extra driver is required.

Well, the mini cd won't run in my drives. I looked on line for 'Audacity'. Found it and read that only a beta version is available for Win7. I downloaded it. It was able to record the audio file in a propriatary format which requires another program to convert to a usable mp3. I could not find a converter to work.

I wrote to support at Pyle explaining these issues. No Response.

This machine will not provide mp3 to my computer without a large amount of special software work. It does play cassettes, much like any everyday cheap cassette player would do. The audio leads work into my realteck sound inputs.

So I wrote a review for the last incarnation of this software package (version 9) and a lot of people found it very helpful.

There was one BIG problem with Version 9 it had bugs in the video rendering section, which were never fixed with the software updates. It appears that Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 10 has fixed the obvious encoding/rendering bugs which plagued Version 9.

You can now safely encode video to all major formats used worldwide, creating your own custom templates if you wish.

Version 10 now includes working templates for anyone who uploads HD or SD WIDESCREEN 16:9 Videos to YOUTUBE. The OLD version of Vegas Movie Studio only had a template for "old fashioned" 4:3 aspect ratio, which meant you had to create a custom template to make a 16:9 video.

If you like to experiment, have patience in learning new things, and really enjoy using Professional Tools to create a Professional Look, then go with this software package. I have yet to come across a limitation with this software "creatively speaking".

I highly recommend existing users of older versions of this software, to make the upgrade due to the additions and fixes.

The price of this package or the upgrade for existing users is unbelievable, compared to the Pro Version.

If you are worried about whether this program will do what it says, then do the smart thing and DOWNLOAD the FREE TRIAL at Sony Creative Software website, where you can try it out for a whole 30 days!

VERY IMPORTANT NOTE:

There is something that people should be aware of. High Definition Video Cameras are advancing technologically faster than the everyday home computer can deal with. HD Video made with the Super High Quality setting selected on your camera, produces a massive file. So if you expect Vegas to edit large High Definition files properly, then you are going to need a fast computer with plenty of memory. Intel i5 and i7 CPU's are a good choice, or any of the AMD Phenom II range CPU's.

If you are on an old computer, Vegas is not going to work. Rendering video, especially High Definition video, can suck every last brain cell out of your computer and ask it to travel beyond light speed, while pondering the creation of the Universe.

So buy a new computer and retire your dinosaur, before attempting to become a Video Enthusiast this will prevent experiencing a "Meltdown".

FINAL NOTE:

The vast majority of people who are leaving 1 star reviews, are blaming Vegas for problems that they do not understand properly. All of the issues raised, had/have easy solutions. An example is this: If you can't install Vegas at all, log in as The Administrator and change some settings in your Virus Protector program then it will install no problemo. I guess some people are very impatient and give up too easily. So don't be scared off by the one stars they just didn't find the right doctor.

I have tried out Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 10 Production Suite and decided to purchase it. I compared it to Magix Movie Edit Pro Plus 16, Pinnacle 14, Corel Videostudio Pro X2/X3, and Cyberlink Power Director 8 and it comes down to one major factor. Vegas actually runs without crashing. I own Videostudio Pro X2, reformatted my PC to start fresh and tried to reinstall VS Pro X2, as I had done a couple times previously, and this time it would not install. I called tech support, which graciously tried to help without charging me they even called me back to see if the their idea worked which, unfortunately, it had not. I downloaded VS Pro X3 as I could upgrade for a lower price than buying new. It worked fine a for a day but then started crashing non-stop to the point where I couldn't use it without crashing.

I tried Power Director 8 which in some respects has a really good interface (not in all respects though there are too many tabbed options and the graphics on the tabs don't make it obvious what they're for so you have to hover over then to see what they're for). However, it started getting choppy in the program and also started to crash.

I then decided to give Sony Vegas a try. I had tried them before purchasing VS Pro X2 but it was not intuitive software and VS Pro X2 seemed the better choice. So far, I have experienced good performance the bestin fact, from Vegas Movie Studio HD. I spent some time on the phone asking questions, watched their useful Show Me How tutorials and read the Help file in the program. I now like it the best. It is a really powerful program that, on the surface, may seem complicated, but after you spend a little time with it, it becomes more intuitive than some of the others I tried.

Not ready to just buy the 3rd program I tried, I then tried Magix Movie Edit, which worked decently in the software. However, the video it created seemed to be choppy where none of the others were, when I was able to create a video before they started crashing. I also tried Pinnacle 14, all 1.9 GB of it's download. I found it, surprisingly, not as intuitive, and fairly sluggish, though stable to the small extent I used it. The import function is a pain in Pinnacle. The explorer view available in Vegas is the best in my opinion.

Software has a small learning curve but it's simpler to learn than Final Cut Express. I have used Acid 3.0 for years and some of the interface/tools & commands are pretty similar. Comes with DVD Architect & Sound Forge 10. Haven't fully dived into but so far I created a 2 minute video that looks pretty good. The best thing is so far it reads multiple files. A producer gave me files he transferred from his Sony HD Cam to my hard drive using Final Cut Pro. No other software would open these files; not even AVS4YOU. Kept saying I needed a APCN Codec, well SVP 10 must have it because it worked and audio/video is great. Definitely worth the $94!

I finally decided to learn how to video edit. A stripped down version of Cyberlink came with my new HP, but I didn't care for their upgrade options (too confusing), so I went with Sony Vegas. After tinkering with it for a couple of hours and watching online and included tutorials, I managed to put together a great six minute video (if I say so myself) of a family weekend, complete with fade in/out, four video tracks, pictures, videos, two audio tracks, credit roll, pan/crop, and other effects. I learned how to import media, put it on the timeline, edit, and output to a mpeg4 HD. Now I can't wait for the next reason to create another video! It's so much better than a boring photo album. I thought maybe that it was going to be overkill, but it is good for an amateur like myself. It's so new that I can't find books written yet, but there is a online manual so I probably don't need another software book lying around.

Following an adequate experience with its predecessor, 9.0, the lure of a built-in stabilizer and a secondary color corrector attracted me to this version of Vegas Movie Studio. The initial experience was good, so I decided to transfer my 9.0 files over to HD 10.

The first really bad aspect of this product, as with all previous versions, is the lack of documentation. The only third-party printed reference book lacks an index and is almost as superficial as the slim "quick start" guides that come with the installation disc. I am not a novice, but my overwhelming notion about this software is that it is loaded with features that few will ever even suspect are there, because they are either unexplained or, under "show me how" and "help," still very inadequately explained. That is too bad.

After a month working with HD 10 I can truly say I had not had such trouble with error messages and program crashes since Macintosh 800K. While rendering a 2-minute clip, 3/4 of the way it will give me an error message and specifies the reason for the error could not be determined.

During the past two days I have experienced yet another really annoying quirk. It reminds me what we used to say at Cray Research in the days when it was the only supercomputer builder in the world: If the customer finds it first, it's a bug; if we find it first, it's a feature. One of the conceptually great features of this version of Vegas is that windows can be tiered like vertical shades that can be pulled out as needed. This is great until it starts to do things unexpectedly, actions that no help menu addresses and can only be stopped by uninstalling and installing the program again )at which point it will not recognize its own project files, and you have lost all work that has not been rendered). Suddenly and inexplicably, the windows, in this case the Media FX window, will stop appearing on the left side of the screen, where the user can easily adjust effects while looking at them in the preview window, but rather where the preview window usually sits, covering it and making it impossible to gauge the effect of changes as performed with the FX sliders. An attempt to remove the window will bring in the audio mixer panels, but the preview window will not come on again until its tab is clicked on. Then you can't see what you did with the FX until you click the FX again. Being able to see the impact of changes as they occur on the preview window was one of the best features of Vegas. It would be nice if it were left where the user puts it.

The secondary color corrector is great--if the user can figure out how to use it and through guesswork come to do something. The help menu explains everything except how the droppers come into play. This is not meant for novice users, definitely, and two of my less experienced colleagues who have used it are still wondering exactly how to work it.

The formats for rendering do not remain in place, as they did in 9. If the user sets rendering for an NTSC DV widescreen 24p in one session, next time it may have reset to something completely different. I had taken it for granted that the format setting would remain the same once I set it to something: I have had to re-render six different files over the past two days after noticing that the previous format changed.

If your user status is novice to mid-level, I would not recommend you use this software. If you are impatient or work on deadlines, I do not recommend this program. If you are not able to waste two days of work trying to figure out why something is happening with the software and how to work around it rather than with it, do not use this software. If you do not like manufacturers who do not provide free updates for their faulty software as it becomes available, but rather expect you to buy the next version hoping it works better, do not use this software.

i have had so many problems with this phone and it has only been two days. They sent a European charger with a converter so when my phone wouldn't charge, I figured that was the problem. After spending $25 on a new charger, I learned that it was the phone that had the problem. The user's manual is in French (luckily I know some French) so it is no use to most buyers. The phone came with a warranty, but no contact info to act on it. My sister and brother-in-law both bought SLVRs from AT&T and love them, so I would recommend that route. DO NOT order it from here.

I didn't buy this through Amazon; I got it through Verizon 2 years ago. It was the best phone I owned, and I wish I could have kept it if it didn't wear out. It is thin, has great sound quality, and the ringtones/ringer were crystal clear, even two years later. Only downside was the phone would freeze once in a while and I'd have to pull the battery out, but that would happen only once every few months.

I love my Slvr L7 it looks great, it works just fine.. small, convenient, easy to use and cute. I had some big problems with my seller that I'm STILL trying to resolve (MobilePC, if you're interested). For one thing, I didn't realize that "International version" means there's no US charger which they later told me about. For another, I hear the Slvr's can be kind of temperamental and the first two I received from MobilePC absolutely were. After I found a good seller, I got one that works with my SIM and is everything I could've hoped for!

The Slvr is not worth buying.

My SIM card kept slipping out of the bracket that is supposed to hold it in place. The camera is less than impressive although it does have zoom. I thought it would be great to have a phone compatible with iTunes, but the lacking functionality of the phone overall made it hard to enjoy. I also thought the clarity of the screen and images was very poor. The phone had terrible reception in areas where I normally have no problems and I was using the same provider.This was all relative to whether or not my SIM card was actually registering as having been inserted. Bottomline...I was disappointed with the Motorola Slvr. I'm sticking with my LG for now.

Pros:

5 Gb for $200. For now, that is a good deal and certainly a value when you consider the other features the 820 provides

Unlike previous reviewers, I had absolutely no problems getting my unit to synch with Windows Media Player. Select your files and send them to your Synch list, then Synch now, and the files get pushed over. I didn't load NAPSTER, as I don't want 3rd party apps cluttering my PC. Originally I didn't load the Samsung software either, but then I had problems getting the JPGs to show correctly after a direct file transfer via filesystem (not saying that it can't be done, its just easier with the native Samsung software)

Accessible via file system (technical saavy required)

Battery life is satisfactory, about 6-7 hours.

First of all, I'd like to say that I have NO idea what anyone here is talking about. I purchased this MP3 player, have loaded over 2000 songs in it, and never ONCE installed napster. the installation of napster is just NOT necessary! i never installed it. i stuck with realplayer, which works VERY well and I am very pleased. I use my mp3 player for hours every day and have NEVER had any problems with it. The only issue I have with it is that it does take about 15 seconds to start it up. But that doesn't make any difference to me. Who needs music to startup right away anyway?! I am not a camera person, but I have used the photo album. I'm pleased with it, but that wasn't the reason I bought it for. In conclusion, this mp3 player is very nice, despite what was said by the crazy people below. And not ONCE have I had an issue with the Hard Drive. This mp3 player might be a little pricy, but if youre willing to spend the amount, the color screen makes it worth it. The headphones included are very acceptable, and I am extremely satisfied with my samsung mp3 player.

Smaller than the iPod mini and has a color screen and relatively easy navigation. A little slow to boot up initially, but this is not a detrimental issue. Definitely glad I researched this before plunging into the iCult. I'm not sure what Bill Waff was speaking of below, but the player is indeed WMP compatible and you do not need to be online to manage your library.

I've used this MP3 player for a few months now and have to say its a very nice little unit. I would spring for the extra $20-30 to get an extra warranty. With mine, I swap it out if something goes wrong...no sending it in for repairs.

I bought my unit after trying two different units in home. I tried the Creative Labs Jukebox(40GB) and then tried another Creative Labs unit. I stayed with this one because it gave me zero problems. I like the color screen that the unit has. Nice and easy software to uplaod photo's to and from the unit. The player comes bundled with Napster software but the software is not necessary to use th player. If you read the users manual you will realize that you can also use Windows Media PLayer to transfer music to and from the unit. It is a fairly fast transfer to the unit if you have USB 2.0. If you dont have USB 2.0 and are wanting to use the player it is going to be a slow slow process for you. I filled up the player to full capacity in less than three hours(dont know exact time....I walked away and went to do some other things around the house). Unlike the Ipod you can delete track by track listing instead of having to erase the whole players memory. Found that a very cool feature. I have switched out songs a few times and never experienced one problem in doing so. When the player gets to full capacity it does run slow(they even tell you this in the manual). This is a drawback to going with a hard drive based unit in general. Every HD unit has this problem so if you think you will avoid it by going wiht an Ipod think again. While using the player I found a few minor problems. The menu system likes to move slow and seems to get stuck at times. If you excersise patience when you player this shouldnt present any problems. I can't seem to get the two second gap in between tracks out. I listen to techno and this does bother me but I will get over it. I recommend this player to anyone who wants a better deal than the Ipod.

I raved about this player too when I first purchased it. It literally played EVERYTHING. It was cheap, and I used it quite a bit, so when it stopped reading any discs after about a year I wasn't all that upset. With all the features, and for the price, if I had to buy a new one every year, then so be it...a small price to pay for the ability to watch all my multi region DVDs and avi files on my TV.

I originally bought it at Wal Mart, who I discovered no longer carried it (now I understand why), so I looked online and found out it was available at Target. I rushed out, bought the replacement, got home, set it up, punched in the code, and was back in business...for two whole days, after which it once again would fail to read any disc.

A fluke I thought...a defective machine is sure to get by occasionally. No problem, I pack it up and take it back to Target who graciously exchange it for another one. I get the replacement's replacement home, get it all set up, pop in a movie, and I am once again back in business...for two whole weeks, after which it once again would fail to read anything.

At this point I am starting to get upset. I look in the manual and get the number for technical support. I call, tell them about my problems, and let them know the complete history of what has happened up to this point. "Have you tried unplugging it, and plugging it back in again?" they ask, knowing the answer before the question even leaves their lips.

I explain to them that yes, I tried this...on BOTH machines...and that it failed to resolve the problem. "Well why don't you try it again?" they ask, convinced that somehow through sheer force of will, their presense on the phone would somehow change the outcome.

I begrudgingly do so, knowing it will do no good, knowing that I am just wasting my time, knowing that every condecending remark from their so called technician is bringing me closer and closer to baldness as I rip out my hair in frustration.

Loading...loading...loading..................NO DISC.

"Well, there must be some internal problem with the machine. I can give you the address for our warranty department where you can send it for a free product exchange."

I once again explain to them that I only bought the machine two weeks ago, and ask them why I would PAY to send it back to them, when I could just as easily return it to the store and exchange it for a different brand. I explain that if THEY would pay the shipping costs, I would be happy to send it to them for repair or replacement, provided they can figure out what the problem is and get it fixed. After all, I had been a loyal customer to them; I have now had THREE of these machines come down with similar problems within a relatively short span of time, and that while I might enjoy the options and features of this model, these features do me little good if I can't get the machine to read a disc.

"I understand that sir, but if you don't want........"

"I like this model; I would like to keep it, but I would also like it to work."

"I'm sorry sir, but I don't believe there is anything else I can do to help you.....click"

And Philips loses a customer for life. And so, while I agree the features of this model are great, the quality of it is complete crap. You might as well pay the extra money for a better quality product. In the long run you'll be much better off.

I cannot fit all the good things I want to say about this product in only one review. I bought this due to the massive amounts of re-encoding required for converting DIVX and XVID movies to standalone-DVD format. It would take hours on end.

With this player you can copy the clips themselves to a blank CD-R or DVD-R and it works fine. I don't know why people report so many problems with this player It's played every single disc I've thrown at it. Multi brands too, both -R, -RW, +R, and +RW. It also plays CD-R/RW discs with the DIVX/XVID/WM files burned to them.

This player is the last one I'll ever get. I've just purchased one for my parents too, since I've enjoyed mine so much. Try it You won't be sorry.

I purchased this adapter as a replacement for the original. The first one lasted less than a year and the second one less than six months. Each time the plastic connector on the end that plugs into the camera fell apart. I do plug the camera in about once a week, but this seems to be shoddy workmanship. The only reason I didn't give it one star is because it seemed to work fine before the connectors fell apart.

This Sony AC adapter has two parts: one part has the powerpack (the blackbox), the other part is a wire that plugs into the powerpack. The powerpack is by Sony, as advertised. However the wire is NOT the wire that Sony provides. The Sony wire has one squared prong, which fits into the squared hole on the powerpack. This wire does has two round prongs, not a squared prong. Probably still works, but NOT AS ADVERTISED. When I order a Sony product, I expect the Sony product!

Placing the cameras was the hardest part of the setup, the system needs longer camera cables. I did find the enclosed instructions quite lacking in detail and vague, making the DVR programming difficult. The obvious outsourced Tech Support was horrific, as the person I actually talked to had such a thick accent, I could not understand him. Otherwise, the system works great! It has already caught a late night prowler in real time monitoring, allowing me to confront him and eject him from the property.

I bought two of these in November of 2002. The power went out on the first one in june of 2003. The power went out on the second one today 2 Feb. I am single and live alone and work 12-16 hours. Within 6 weeks of purchasing this item, I could no longer record TV shows as the audio no longer worked. I could not return it to the store so I called Sylvania and was told I would have to send it back as it could not be fixed. What a piece of junk! I can't wait to buy a new one (which will NOT be a Sylvania model either!). We could not turn the timer on or off using the remote either.

This player isn't flashy, but very functional. After 4 years of use, we have had zero problems. Simple to setup and operate and has good features excellent given the price.

telling me they had just sold out of that particular camera, and asked if they could substitute an alternative. I figured something like this situation would happen eventually (since they had only one of that item left in stock), so I said "OK". The substitute was the camera I'm reviewing now. I was a little disappointed that an English language operating manual wasn't included (the only manual was in Chinese, I think), but since I'm a very technically-minded, hands-on kind of guy, I started pressing buttons to see what did what. It didn't take long to figure out how to operate the camera (about 30-45 minutes of trial-and-error) and get the battery charged. It has several resolutions available, from VGA 640X480 to 1080 FHD on the movie camera side, to VGA 640X480 to 12 MP on the still images side. There's also a setting to flip the display 180 degrees, if you use the camera "upside down", and so many others I haven't used yet. It's a definite learning curve...if you press the setting wheel too soon, it defaults to the main display, and so forth. As mentioned, trial and error and about 45 minutes of tinkering, and you'll be operating this camera in no time flat. I've not yet used it in my car, but I plan to at some point, just to test it's capabilities.

It comes with an in-car mount (a heavy-duty suction cup for attaching to the windshield), an RCA video cable to connect to a TV or DVR, a USB A to micro USB cable, and a 12v car adapter. You can also use it as a webcam, if you're so inclined, or a USB mass storage device (although I had some trouble mounting it as the latter...I suspect my computer not recognizing any USB device over 8gb as the culprit). It'll take up to a 32GB SD Card, which, on the lowest resolution settings, will give you over 400,000 still images or over 5 hours of video. It's also night-vision capable, given the array of 10 IR LEDs on either side of the wide-angle lens. With the LEDs turned on, you can see about 30-45 feet in total darkness (about average for night vision devices). Turning them on takes a bit of practice...press the power button once to turn the camera on, then a brief press of the power button will turn the LEDs on or off (the display will indicate when the LEDs are on or off). The display itself is rather small...no more so than an average LCD camera, so it really isn't an issue.

I've not yet tested the battery capacity, but I suspect on battery power alone, actual use times may vary. I tend to use things like this connected to an inexhaustable power supply (such as a LARGE battery, a car charger, or other means), since batteries are so unpredictable.

I plan to tinker with this some more over the next few weeks, so we'll see just how complicated (or easy!) this camera is to use "in the field", as it were.

In closing, I'd like to ask a favor of the fine folks at Alldaymall Please include an English-language manual, or offer an English-language translation of the included manual with your cameras from now on. The directions on the back of the box are not very informative. Thank you!

Sony ICDB600 Digital Voice Recorder

Works great. Currently using it for lecture classes. It picks up every word the instructor says when set on high frequency.

For all those clicking through the 1, 2, and 3 star reviews. There seems to be a few misunderstandings about this product. Let me try to clarify them for those who can't afford the pricier models.

1) Slide the hold button and it will turn off in a few seconds (battery won't die if you turn it off)

2) The notes DO NOT REPEAT 10 TIMES TO ERASE. Click play, hit erase button twice in sequence and it will... ERASE.

3) No where in product description does it state you can transfer to your computer. In fact let me type out what it says directly on the box as well as whats not on the box so to clear up any further confusion:

The unit has a phones out. You run 1/8" stereo out into you line in jack on your PC or laptop. Most computers that are less than 5 yrs old have a 1/8" stereo input for a microphone. Most, also have a pop up that gives you a choice for that input as a mic or a line in. Choose the line in. Use the sound recorder software in Windows or Mac, or download a free music editing program like Audacity.

This is all pretty straight forward. After a few minutes you should have a .wav or and .mp3 that you can email to all your friends.

This is in response to the previous review. Like other versions of Sony voice recorders, this device is turned off by using the "hold" switch. If you turn it off when not in use, the batteries will last much longer. Also, the erase function isn't that problematic. Just press the erase button a couple of times and it should delete the current recording. I found this item to be really useful given the hundreds of hours recording time available.

Documentation states there is no on/off. But there is. The switch on the side labeled "hold" does the trick.

Also the instructions for erasing a message, if followed, will result in message being played 10 times before it is erased. (Why anyone would have a need for THAT to occur is beyond me.) But simply pressing the "Erase" button twice in succession while playing the message will erase the message instantly. That approach is undocumented in the instructions.

Thanks to the other posters who provided this information.

This model has no computer software, no USB, etc. to support sound transfer. The only option for transferring these sound files electronically is to use the speaker/audio out jack. (and something such as Windows Sound Recorder and your microphone in jack on the back of your PC). You have to cough up another forty smackers or so to get the model that does provide true support.

It does also have a jack for an for external mike. I found the quality of the recording as well as the volume on playback to be satisfactory.

The product is a wee bit "over-engineered." The basic operation/buttons and the display screens are not as simple as they could be. This is a $30 unit, so I expected and wanted something very basic. It took a bit of reading/plowing through the manual (and reading reviews here on Amazon) to get oriented.

And there is other functional overkill. I didn't need four storage folders (or a way to transfer files between them), an alarm clock (and a way to select a message for the alarm), the ability to go back and splice previous messages, the ability to append recordings to existing messages and other such what not. All that stuff just complicates the device/screens/menus needlessly, imho.

The device ought to auto-power-off when not in use (and is not set to voice-activated-recording, that is) but it doesn't. You have to flip that "Hold" switch.

But it appears that it will do the basic job satisfactorily (subject to the above stated issues) and so I can recommended it.

UPDATE [APRIL, 2011]: I retired these units from service (I had several) and replaced them with the Sony ICD-PX312 Digital Flash Voice Recorder. The primary reason is that the PX312 makes it very easy to save audio files on my hard drive. It has a female A-Mini-USB plug on the side and so I can use my Zip-Linq Retractable USB to A-Mini-USB Cable to connect it to the computer. The PX312 then appears on my computer as a plug-n-play flash drive, no software drivers required. Then I can just copy any audio files off of it and on to my computer. The PX312 stores its audio files in MP3 format, so there are no file conversions involved. Sweet! The price of the PX312 had been dropping as it neared the end of its product cycle, and so they cost me no more than what I paid for the ICD-B600s a few years ago. Now the ICD-B600s will be sold on eBay ... and I've upgraded for about twenty smackers per unit. Double Sweet!! The PX312 has gobs of memory and will even accept an M2 MicroSD card for expansion. Oh, and the "hold" problem is rectified. There is now a hold/on/off switch. I just ignore the hold function entirely. I don't have to deal with the 'erase' issue either, as I can delete files directly when the PX312 is USBed to my computer. Unfortunately, the PX312 is still way too over-engineered with gobs of useless & complicating functions and buttons...that I just ignore.

I bought my Sony Model ICD-B600 voice recorder today. I found it easy to set up, easy to record on and very easy to play back. The little bugger plays back with plenty of volume. I am going to be using it to record violations as I drive through our HOA on inspections. I'm sure it will be handy for many other things as well.

I'm glad that I checked out the reviews here on Amazon, because the instructions do not tell you to put it on HOLD to save the batteries. The hold button, on the right side, is like an On-Off button.

This earphone is a piece of junk. Do not even consider it. It was clearly not as pictured when I ordered it. Then a day later, the picture changed on Amazon -AFTER I placed my order. Now there is not even a picture of the earpiece portion of the product.

The company is even worse. I called customer service to return the item and they told me that they were not able to refund my money because I opened the package. How was I to know if they were what I wanted if I did not open the package? What a joke. I can't even give them one star, Amazon should be ashamed to sell from this retailer.
