Sony BDP-S590 3D Blu-ray Disc Player with Wi-Fi (Black)

Sony BDP-S590 3D Blu-ray Disc Player with Wi-Fi
  • 3D Blu-ray Disc Player with Full HD 1080p playback
  • Built-in Wi-Fi, Digital Audio Output(s): 1 Optical (Rear), 1 Coaxial (Rear)
  • AVCHD, GIF, JPEG, MP3, MPEG-4, MPEG1, MPEG2, PNG; Media Remote app for iPhone/iPad & Android phones
  • Region: Blu-ray: A, DVD: 1, 60Hz
  • Power requirement: 120 VAC, 60 Hz

[added a "6 moths later update at the end]

This isn't a super in depth review, but will give you more info that most will in a fairly brief summary:

First off, I am a Sony TV guy who bought TWO Panasonic Blu-Ray players last year due to their seeming superiority(reviews, pro and online stores).

First step for any modern electronic device, update your firmware. My initial update took over 5 minutes. I also recommend registering at internet.sony.tv as in the past some Sony products won't connect to certain services until you do. I connected to AmazonVideo on Demand and Netflix, BEFORE I registered it, so they may have responded to complaints and dropped the requirement, but incase there is a service that require it get it out of the way, it only takes a minute if you have a Sony account already

Netflix app(they upgraded! Sony fans rejoice!):

One glaring fault with (past/pre-2012?) Sony visual products is their Netflix app, as for years Sony decided to have a proprietary interface, and if you have researched it, a LOT of people had Netflix streaming issues. I guess Sony finally took note, as the new interface is like a across between the Wii interface and the Panasonic interface, as in it looks like you avgerage Netflix app now. I watched the Norwegian film TrollHunters, and it took about 15-20 seconds to load the movie, 10 seconds for the Netflix stream to stabilize to the bandwidth( this is mostly on Netflix's end I believe), with the unit 10 feet from my router. For the entire movie, it never reloaded or refreshed, or froze, and was in 1080 with 5.1 sound. I also paused the movie and rewound several times with no reload or delay. Truly the smoothest Netflix experience I have had yet on any of my devices. If your getting the S590 I assume this will be important to you. And yes, it has a dedicated Netflix button, and the app loads faster than my Wii or Panasonic Blu Ray players, and my Sony TV's, so I assume they have "fixed" it, but I haven't done a lot of viewing yet.

Blu Ray performance:

Another reviewer said it won't play Disney movies, but I didn't have a problem, more later. First I put in the Star Trek (2009) Blu Ray, which has great visual beginning. I didn't have any performance issues that I could tell, and the menus are VERY fast and responsive, almost to a fault as there was a bit of shutter on the pop up menu, but unless you watch the movie with the pop up constantly going up and down I don't see this as a big issue. It was roughly 30 seconds from hitting the eject button to close the tray to the Paramount intro screen going, not bad.

I then tried a 3D Disney Blu Ray (Tangeled, a true Disney made film), as one reviewer had said Disney BR does not work. Seeing as how this player is VERY new( a few weeks to a month on market), My guess is there was a firmware issue, disc issue, or user issue. That said, Tangeled played flawlessly in 3D as I skipped around chapters trying to cause an issue, but it all worked great.

Also, this player, in my opinion, works very fast when skipping chapters or loading a scene from menu, where some playera seem to pause or lag. It was also quick to fast foward and "rewind", with little to no pause when hitting the button. A noticeable leap over my 2011 model panasonic bdt-220.

Network set-up:

As usual for modern Sony products, if you have a WPS router, took roughly 2 minutes, from the time I started the set up on the TV, walked to my router in the next room and hit the WPS button, and then walked backed to tell the TV to begin connecting.

The Media Remote app for Android worked very well, but you must first go to the settings menu on the TV and scroll down to the Media remote section, and "register"(aka activate, a button push) the feature(an unnecessary step IMO but I guess they are worried about people with an unprotected router have their TV taken over by pranksters?).

Now some people are complaining about build quality. It's true it doesn't feel as sturdy at the Panasonic Players I bought last year, but is by no means flimsy. Unless you are planning on dropping it regularly, or letting your dog chew on it, I don't see a problem with this. It does look nice, with a brushed metal "look" on the case.

As with seemlingly EVERY Blu Ray player, it does not come with an HDMI(which baffles me, it isnt expensive to make a high quality HDMI cable, don't get fooled by the HDMI cable prices).

6-Month Update

I have now owned this product for 6 months. If I were to again compare it to the Panasonic's , although they are a generation older, the Sony absolutely blows them away. It loads movies faster, it streams Hulu and Netflix faster, it updates firmware MUCH faster, and I have not had any streaming or Blu Ray video problems at all.

I have encountered one issue, but won't change my rating. On Fast Boot mode, while the boot is nearly instant, I did encounter an odd issue where it boots itself. If you have your TV HDMI control function, it will turn on the TV also. It's a bit unnerving when you are asleep and you are awoken by your TV turning on and seeing a Main menu. This COULD be an HDMI control issue with my TV though. There are two ways to solve it: Turn off fast boot(it's still much faster than most Blu Ray players), or turn off HDMI control so it can't turn on your TV itself. Also, while some Sony TV's do not, this player will also auto zoom/strech the screen when you are watching a 4:3 format video on netflix, to fit your widescreen, so there aren't any bars on the side. I know many people want to use every inch of their TV screen.

Also, Sony has been fairly quick lately to keep the Internet Video Apps up to date/ recent versions, So no TiVo-style glacier slow Internet Application User Interface updates to worry about.

Buy Sony BDP-S590 3D Blu-ray Disc Player with Wi-Fi (Black) Now

This is a awesome Streamer/Bluray/DVD player. I haven't experienced any issues whatsoever playing back Bluray disks. Boot times are very good with the disks I tested. Everything played back perfectly with stunning picture quality. However, I really purchased this player for its streaming abilities. Sony players were dinged in the past for a poor Netflix experience. Sony have fixed this with a updated Netflix interface that supports 1080p and Dolby Digital+ streams. Similarly Amazon VOD supports Dolby Digital bitstream audio, and VUDU and HULU+ are unchanged from the 2011 players, but work fine. Its also nice to have "crackle" on there so you can watch the odd Seinfeld episode when you fancy.

I also tested the player with a DNLA server. Sony seem to recommend Serviio (free) so I think they must test the DLNA features of the player with this software. I tested photos, music and video and everything played back perfectly.

Anyway, a great streamer/disk player. Highly recommended !!

** update **

Had a need to play a Disney BD disk on this player the other day. A comment here suggests that Disney BDs won't play. Complete nonsense. They playback perfectly.

** Update (8/27/12) **

Sony added support for watch lists with the amazon Vod app.

Cinema NOW is now supported.

I've been looking for a Blu-ray player for awhile now and my purchase was delayed a bit due to so many conflicting feedback entries over products. I finally decided to go with a brand I trust, Sony, that had the features I was looking for and just see what happens. The S590 is 3d capable, but I have no interest in 3d and that is why I do not address it in my review.

Out of the box the player is a bit plasticy. (Is that a word?) Yes it feels a little cheap, but on the upside it is light and matches my other equipment. I don't need a Blu-ray player that is built like a tank. After all, it is just going to sit there on my media shelf playing movies. I don't get why people complain about it. Do they take their players mountain biking with them? So yes, the case is plastic, but I could not care less. One important note, an HDMI cable is not included with the unit, so be sure to have one if you want an HDMI connection.

I plugged in the player via HDMI and turned it on. First thing I established a wireless connection so I could update firmware. My router, in the next room, was seen immediately, along with routers from neighbors. I entered my password and was connected. Next, I updated the firmware. That took less than five minutes to do. Amazon Prime connectivity was next, then Netflix. No issues at all. I then decided to stream an Amazon Prime movie, Mission Impossible 3, as it is hi-def and I wanted to see what performance was like. The movie started up within 30 seconds, I saw I was getting between 8.4 and 10.2 megabits per second. The picture was clear and smooth. Over the weekend we streamed from Amazon Prime and Netflix and were very happy with the speed of connection and quality of video and sound.

I also tried playing Blu-Ray and DVD movies, both with no issues. I did not time how long it took to get a movie playing, but I can (very unscientifically) say that it was faster than what I have seen with several units. Everything played as expected.

Boot up time is acceptably fast. I chose the slower boot process as I don't want the player in standby mode all the time. When I turn the player on, I am able to choose what I want to do in about 15 20 seconds. More than acceptable.

Overall, I am extremely happy with the player. It is responsive, boots quickly and has handled my needs, (Blu-Ray disks, DVDs, Amazon Prime and Netflix.) I have not tried other features, so I can't speak to them. Given my experience, I would expect they would work as advertised, but you never know until you try them.

If I have friends looking for a Blu-Ray player, I won't hesitate to recommend the S590!

Want Sony BDP-S590 3D Blu-ray Disc Player with Wi-Fi (Black) Discount?

In April I decided that although I loved my LG blu-ray player for Netflix and watching blu-rays, I wanted a new player that would let me watch Amazon streaming and have an updated and easier to use Netflix interface. My old player worked perfectly for what it did, I just wanted something that did more.

First, based on my great experience with my LG player, I ordered the LG BD670. I liked the interface, liked how it played blu-rays, loved that I could search Netflix from the blu-ray player itself (the old player would only let you view your queue and a few of the specific categories that it chose, you had to go to another device if you wanted to search or even browse beyond that) and I loved Amazon streaming. But it did not play Netflix well: during the course of pretty much anything I'd try to watch, whether it was a 2+ hours movie or a twenty minute tv episode, it would lose the sound and have stuttering picture for anywhere between a few seconds to several minutes. After less than two weeks I contacted Amazon and sent it back. I put my old blu-ray player back and it worked with no problems, for Netflix and blu-rays both.

Then, based on glowing reviews, I tried the Panasonic DMP-BDT220. Initially it seemed great. I liked it even more than the LG. Then it started having connection issues. Actually, it started having connection issues the first day, but I didn't realize right away that it was going to be a *constant* problem. There was not one day that it did not lose the internet connection. Granted, where it was set-up is as far away from my wireless router as it can be while the two devices are still the house, so some connection issues are understandable, but it would lose connection when nothing else in the room it was in had lost their connection and beyond that even, it would not reestablish its connection until I'd cycled it off and on, sometimes several times. I really wanted it to work, since when it was working, I loved it. I did not contact the company, in fairness, so I cannot say if they could have helped me or comment on their customer service. I did check online reviews and message boards and found that I was not alone in having internet connection issues with it. I tried some fixes that were posted but nothing worked. I read more than one person complaining that they *had* contacted Panasonic and were told that the wireless in the player just wasn't that strong, and the only real cure for connections issues was to move the player closer the router. That wasn't an option for me so, incredibly frustrated, after almost a month of it, I contacted Amazon and sent it back. Again I put my old blu-ray player back and it worked with no problems.

Finally, as a last resort, I tried this player, the Sony BDP-S590. Tentatively, hesitantly, I would say it *seems* I've found my player. I admit, I held off on the Sony because it was more expensive than the LG, and at least at the time I was first looking, the reviews weren't as good as for the Panasonic. But for me, it's working. It sits where the Panasonic sat (and where the LGs sat) and doesn't have any connection issues except when there is genuinely an interruption that is affecting everything else that's connected to the router--and even then as soon as the router is doing its thing again, all I have to do is hit "Retry" and the player is connected again, no turning it off and on repeatedly. It has no problem playing Netflix, or Amazon streaming, or Crackle, or Youtube, or good old blu-rays. I appreciate that it's got the only remote that actually controls my not-that-old Toshiba tv, which isn't a big deal, but it's nice. I'm not an audiophile or videophile or whatever, so I can't comment on the technicalities of the sound or picture; it sounds and looks fine to me. The loading times aren't long enough that I get impatient, but I'm not the sort of person who times those things as long as they aren't long enough to make me take notice.

As far as I'm concerned, if you just want to watch stuff, it works. And if you have any sort of distance constraints on where you can place it (like if you don't want to/can't put it in the same room with the router) this is your best bet. I waited to write this review, paranoid after the first two blu-ray players, but after about a month of this, I'm still pleased with it.

At this point, I have made the rounds. I first bought a refurb Panasonic BDT210, thinking the black flashes would be fixed. They weren't. Sent it back. Then, I ordered a Panasonic BDT220. Very nice player with great picture and sound quality, and excellent streaming. Problem was there was a soft, distinct, rhythmic, gulping sound when playing discs, especially with DVDs. Exchanged it for another. The second machine had wireless connection issues. Return it rather than face a headache. Heard really good things about the BDP S390 and 590. Skeptical at first since I have been a diehard Panasonic player fan. Hooked up the Sony. Smooth as silk setup with wireless. No problem at all. Zip, zip, zip. That made me instantly happy. Very user friendly. Quiet player too. Not silent, but no disturbing sounds. Then there was the picture quality. Wow. The Panny is great, but the 590 is photographic. Beautiful picture. Great sound as well. Quick disc loading (though the Panny may be an insignificant touch quicker). Excellent streaming with a fine picture (extra hi/HD even with wireless). Navigating apps is smooth and quick. Amazon's user interface could use some tweaking when it comes to search and selection, but I get my Prime movies with no issues. I can't comment on USB and external files because I don't use them. The PQ on this player along with the smooth and friendly user interface got me to such a degree, I ended up ordering a second one for my other TV. I'm very happy with how things turned out. It's been a long haul, but Sony gets an A+ from me on this player.

Please note: Updating the firmware on this player can take a few minutes. It's quicker when the player is hard wired. The player has to be turned on again after the update is completely finished. Also, Sony customer support was friendly, responsive, and helpful when I called asking about the update. :) Panny needs to improve the quality of their customer service. Rather cut and dry in my experience.

Memorex MB2190 Micro Cassette Recorder

Memorex MB2190 Micro Cassette RecorderExcellent tool from Memorex! I've had this for quite a while now and NEVER has it failed me. I've used this on trips, classrooms, photo shoots & have let my children use it for their school projects and it continues to provide service and is always a very reliable aide.

The knock on the battery usage is noted, but if you purchase the more expensive type, then it cancels the problem out. There is also the responsibility of taking the cheap batteries out when the unit is not being used. Aside from this minute hassle, the product is worth the money. Thumbs up!

Motorola RAZR V3 Unlocked Phone with Camera and Video Player--U.S. Version with Warranty (Silver)

Motorola RAZR V3 Unlocked Phone with Camera and Video Player--U.S. Version with WarrantyI ordered this phone to replace a worn-out Razr that I've had for a few years. I love my Razr; it's the perfect phone for someone who does not need a fancy iPhone, Blackberry, touchscreen, etc. I expected a completely brand new phone, unlocked, direct from the manufacturer.

The phone was locked (it needed a code) and had a "Refurbished" label. T-Mobile and Amazon could not help me so I called Motorola. I provided the MSN and IMEI codes (one-of-a-kind ID numbers assigned in the factory) from the phone, and he said the codes were not in the database, meaning the phone had been sold by a carrier or refurbished.

I asked Amazon for a replacement. The replacement phone did not have a "Refurbished" label and did not ask for an unlock code; I inserted my SIM card and made and received calls. However, the phone has AT&T logos, screensavers, browser links, etc. While it was technically unlocked, it was not what I expected. The next morning, all the keys and buttons stopped working. The phone was a complete dud after less than one day of use.

This time I asked Amazon for a refund. I guess I could ask for a third phone, but I'm sick of this and I found a much better price and warranty on the exact same item at another retailer.

This page does not state that this phone may be refurbished, may have carrier branding, or may be locked. In my experience all of these things were true. Two different customer service representatives told me that every time they send me a replacement, it is from the same batch that Motorola sold them so it may have the same problems as the phone I'm returning.

Bottom line: Amazon admits that, when you order this item, they don't know if you will receive the product described on this page.

I bought this phone in July,2009 and it stopped working in Jan,2010. Phone comes with 1year warranty.

We left message on the phone number provided on warranty card no one calls back.

Sent email to address provided on warranty card.. email does not get through.

So don't count on warranty as it suggests..

I bought this as a replacement phone for my Father. He loved the Razr phone but as new models came out he upgraded, tried 2 others but never really liked them as well as the Razr V3. The carrier did not carry them any more so the search was on. I found this on Amazon, good price, quick delivery and as Advertised. The phone has worked well out of the box and my Father is very happy to be using what he considers the perfect phone. I would recomend the seller and this phone for an easy to use, dependable unit.

Having used the razr v3 for a month or two at this point, i have no significant complaints. The reception is reasonable, better than the 3 year old Nokia 6822 that my wife uses, but not as good as many other phones of newer makes and models. The phone when first turned on begins in Spanish but automatically switched to English as soon as the network was accessed.

The speakerphone is not worthwhile and is only used when absolutely necessary as there is poor voice quality on the other end and the output sound is scratchy and sounds as though the speaker is blown. Another point of frustration I've experienced with the razr is an increase in the voice echo when speaking with other cell phones, although I'm not certain if the fault is the phones or my current networks' issue.

Overall, I feel like this phone is a reasonable purchase for 100 dollars for an unlocked phone and I'm satisfied with it. In fact, I'm considering purchasing another to upgrade the reception of my wife's service, but not so sold on the value as to make it a no brainer-type decision.

Other functions such as bluetooth, camera, video camera etc. work as expected and provide satisfactory results.

The phone arrived about a week after I ordered it. The back of the phone would not stay snapped on with the battery in place, and I sent email to the vendor, but it was the subsequent seller feedback that produced a response. We swapped about one email a day regarding the back cover. I do not know if the fellow was busy, or if I was on a leash. (I suspect the latter.) After about four days of emails, the seller sent a new cover.

I have not yet received said cover, though the email tells me it's in the mail, but being in a hurry, I applied tape to the back cover, and proceeded to get the phone ready for use. I had forgotten the pure simplicity that is this phone. However, that pleasure was not to last.

First, the phone is not new as indicated in the sales copy. It's a refurbished device that was first sold for use on the T-Mobile network, which is apparent when the phone comes on. It's also apparent from the back cover being a different shade of silver from the rest of the phone, and then, of course, there's the problem with the cover popping off.

The phone makes calls. It sends texts. It will take pics. However, it will not send a picture to another phone (MMS). After some delay, an error message appears on the screen indicating a "send" error. There is no suggestion I've found for tweaking the network settings to make MMS function.

I'm at a loss regarding what to do about this phone.

Update (25 October 2010) The replacement cover arrived today. It is wrong on two counts. First, it has two tabs at the bottom whereas the phone only has one slot. Second, the cover is too short. I sent return email to that effect.

Update (28 October 2010) Yesterday, the seller requested the IMEI number for the phone. I suppose the intent is to resolve the MMS issue. Given that T-Mobile and AT&T do not appear to use the same frequency for 3G, I doubt much will happen there. Then again, the seller could be looking for a back cover that fits AND stays on.

Update (29 October 2010) After sending the IMEI number for the phone twice yesterday, it was requested once more today. The request came with a note that a return shipping label would soon be sent.

Update (02 December 2010) Toward the middle of November, this mess all ended. The phone returned to the vendor. The sale was reversed.

JVC Everio GZ-MG360 60GB Hard Drive Camcorder with 35x Optical Zoom

JVC Everio GZ-MG360 60GB Hard Drive Camcorder with 35x Optical ZoomI've recorded probably just 10 hours with the camera, and I am pleased with my purchase of this camera. My wife and I were expecting our first baby (who was born 7/9/08), and I had done quite a bit of research before deciding to but this particular model. I "test drove" several different brands and models by JVC, and decided that the Everio was the route I wanted to go. The good things about this camera that I've noticed thus far are the battery life, the massive 60 GB hard drive, the built-in light, the size, and definitely the price. There are points that I would like to warn folks about. The video and audio recording quality is decent, but not exceptional. If you are looking for a camera based upon purely video and audio quality, you might want to look at something else. The video files are shot with proprietary files with a .MOD extension. Although file extensions and video files are relatively simple to convert, you can't just drag and drop the .MOD files in most applications. The software that is bundled with the camera will convert the files to any type that you want, but this is just another step or another application that you must go through to burn your movies via PC. I haven't yet got the direct burn stations that JVC markets, but I am willing to try them just to make it a bit easier to get my movies on DVDs. For the most part, to view our movies, we hook the camera directly up to the TV...which works very well for quick video showings.

All in all, for my entry level camcorder and the way in which we will use this camera, I am happy that I chose this model (Everio GZ-MG360). I hope my little review will help...because I know how nerve-racking shopping for a camcorder can be!

I wanted something light and compact to record my son's soccer games and birthdays, family events, etc. While this would probably be fine for the other events, it was very poor quality for the fast-moving soccer game. It was okay when holding still, but following the players was pretty much a blur and the still shots so far at any distance are VERY poor, I'm pretty disappointed after researching and being so excited to get this model. Great price at Costco, however ours is going back. I was unable to change the recording mode from the default, which won't publish to the web as far as I can tell, which is highly disappointing. The tutorial is very limited and the software not much more of a help. Pretty disappointed all around.

It is a very light and small camcorder. It records for a long time. It records for 14 hours at the best quality. It looks cool. The external light is very useful. Video quality is good, not too great but very good. Three JVC software comes with this product, a DVD-CD authoring software a video editing software and a video-computer link software. They are all easy and fun to use. Don't worry about the still pictures. Get this and get a tiny camera to go with it. This camcorder is so small that you probably can fit this camcorder and a good camera in a small bag. I did it and it worked out fine. I used this camcorder to record a family vacation and I am pleased with the result.

What can I say? After trolling through pros and cons and tons of reviews, it came down to Panasonic, Sony and JVC. The Panasonic received too many negative reviews on their file format, and the only Sony option was Hard Drive since the flash camcorders used the very expensive and proprietary pro-duo memory cards. So Hard Drive camcorders it was. The 30 GB Sony was a tad more expensive, by about $, than the JVC. But it had 0 lux night vision. Awesome! The 30GB JVC Everio was cheaper and also had tons of great reviews. Then I checked the used camcorders. I picked up this 60GB version for a mere $ with an included JVC camera bag. So my choice was obvious, especially when I was able to score a 60GB for cheaper than the 30GB. It doesn't look used, only an open box item. Plus the Seller was great and got the camera to me sooner than expected. Awesome service from Offprice.

Here's a list of programs I use. I convert into i-Pod, wmv and AVI for all my portable players and to send across the net. I convert into VOB and MPEGII for all my DVD recordings. Here's a list of all the programs I use, some free, some not. Nero Vision Express, Super encoder, TMPEG nc plus, TMPEG nc DVD Creator, and Archos media converter.

Here's what I've done so far. I took the thing out and started recording at the best quality. Why not, it has 60GB of space. I also recorded an instructional video. After all my recording, I hooked the JVC up to the computer (external HD style), and simply drug the files directly into NERO Vision Express to create a DVD. I also created a DVD another way, by converting the files to .VOB and using TMPEG products to have total control over my DVD creation. Works like a charm, and quality is ok considering standard definition. On the 42 inch LCD HDTV, it looks ok. Not High Def, but I was only budgeting $, not $, so I wasn't expecting movie quality. But if you hook the player directly up to the TV, the quality is much better. So I'll tinker with it to find the best fit.

I haven't tried the direct to DVD back-up yet from the camcorder, so I'll try that next.

Now for the meat:

Pros:

It was the best deal I could find. $ for a 60GB 35x optical zoom is unbeatable. Speaking of the zoom, it gets a little fuzzy around 30x or so, but you can still make out a clear image. The optical stabilization works great when zooming in that close. I think the term for this type of zoom is "Stalker Zoom." The 60GB HD will allow many hours of the best quality recording (15 hours I think), and hooking it to the computer is a snap, like any other external HD. Working with the files is easy with the right programs, and many of them are free. I haven't installed the JVC stuff. Its small form factor (about the size of two packs of Marlboro 100s put together) is very compact and as the wife says, "cute." It's very good indoors, even better outdoors, and pretty good in low light situations. It's everything I expected it to be. I started recording as soon as I took it out of the box, so it's also very easy to use.

Cons:

The auto focus gets confused and sometimes takes a while under lowlight conditions. I'm still trying to figure out how to use the built in LED light; it seems to have a mind of its own and turns on and off by itself if it thinks the computer screen you're shooting is too dark (for an instructional video).

It's not HD so expect standard definition quality on a large screen HDTV. That's all I can really think of other than the extra-life battery sticks out like a sore thumb, but at least it's out of the way during operation.

Summary:

I'll get a different point of view when the wife takes it out for our daughter's field day. As of yet, I call this the purchase of the year for me. I got what I wanted. Next, I'll look into HD camcorders, but that's going to be a long while from now. This JVC will suit our needs just fine and fit our budget perfectly. I highly recommend it.

Want JVC Everio GZ-MG360 60GB Hard Drive Camcorder with 35x Optical Zoom Discount?

I searched high and low for a good HD camcorder that wouldn't break my bank and I finally found the JVC Everio GZ-MG360 for a decent price. I took it with me on a trip the day after I got it and have just now been able to see the finished product. Here's my eval of it:

Pros:

-VERY easy to use... if you're the least bit tech savy then you can figure out how to use everything by just simply clicking through the buttons.

-Nice, functional design lightweight, small, and very stylish!

-Even on the highest 'ultra fine' setting I got 8 hrs of video.

-Transfer between the camcorder and PC is a piece of cake... when you plug it in... it takes over!

Cons:

-Even though they do not lie about it... the battery life is only around 1hr or so... I would recommend buying a second battery... I had access to an outlet so no biggie.

-I wish there was an automatic lens opener on it because I kept forgetting to open and close the lens... it does remind you however!

-Not that this is a big deal but WMP does not recognize the 16:9 aspect ratio so you will need to use DIVX or RP to play the vid files with the correct aspect ratio.

Summary: Overall I am VERY pleased with this camcorder and would highly recommend this for anyone wanting a low end price memory snapper! :)

Although there are problems with the box (turning on WiFi completely freezes the system, as does playing YouTube videos), I think the update will make the box very usable. All in all, I'm happy I got this, but I think if I had the opportunity to do it again, I would opt for a refurbished Logitech GoogleTV for $79.

Samsung SCD103 MiniDV Digital Camcorder

Samsung SCD103 MiniDV Digital CamcorderAt the start of our vacation this year our camcorder was stolen! We picked up this Samsung at a local Costco one day before arriving at Yellowstone National Park for a once in a lifetime trip.

My husband took movies all day and we did not have to recharge the battery (although we are getting a backup). The pictures were great! Although, we did see them on 3 different screens and each one the quality of the movies were different. On the large (60") screen they did look grainy but on a 32" they looked great. And we were glad that we had purchased it.

The only reason that I am giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is that I have not been able to hook it up to my computer via the USB cable and am online to order the other one. If all goes well I will readjust the stars!

I had a very low budget and a newborn... (you do the math!)

I did my research and finally, I got it.

The features I love:

Can be used as webcam! I don't understand why they don't promote this feature. In fact, I went to Best Buy to see it and they had no idea about this capability.

Very light.

Resolution... it's ok. It's just for family memories... not to broadcast the SuperBowl in HD!!!

Built-in light.

Memory stick.

Night PIX

Good audio! Nice mic. Really.

A/V connectors in several flavors.

Things I don't like too much but I can live with:

Very low resolution in snapshots.

Included battery lasts... nothing.

The cover of the A/V connectors is very weak. Any bad movement... and It's broken.

Buy Samsung SCD103 MiniDV Digital Camcorder Now

I bought this camcorder because we were on a budget just having a new baby and wanting to record some video of her growing up. I first was scared because I didn't think the quality would be that good after it was uploaded to the internet. To my suprise the quality was phenominal!!! This is a great camera for starters. I live in Houston and it snowed here on Christmas eve so I went out side and used the light and then I used the night vision to take pictures of the snow falling and let me say I was amazed at the quality. The only complaint I have is that the stabilazation is not that great but then again I was using myself as the trypod so can't really complain. Practice will make perfect.

Also the camera comes with all the software and the s-cable, audio/video cables to hook up to the tv as well as a usb cable to connect to the computer and upload. You can use firewire also to transfer data but have to pay extra for the cable 20 something dollars.

I hope that this is is helpful.

When this digital camcorder works, it records a nice picture and captures a lot of sound. It has, however, some major drawbacks.

Our first main gripe is the substandard battery. We've charged it overnight and then would unplug thinking it was fully charged. After one week we'd grab the camcorder and head out the door to capture a magical moment...only to find the battery completely dead.

After our third use, the camcorder now has some type of 'mechanical defect' as the manufacturer's manual calls it. The warranty is recently expired and so we're still debating whether to repair this item or just get another more reliable brand.

If you decide purchase this camcorder, be sure to get extra batteries and always keep one on the charger. Hopefully you'll get more use out of yours than we did ours.

This is an awful camcorder. While under warranty the camcorder was repaired. The warranty had ended and I am having nothing but problems again.

  • High Definition USB/Network Media Player
  • Supports MPEG1/2/4, M2TS, MKV, VOB, AVI, MP3-XML, MP3-CD+G, ISO, IFO, MP4, FLV, ASF, and almost all major video codec formats.
  • Ethernet 10/100 Port
  • Web services such as BBC, Yahoo, Weather, Stock index, Youtube

I owned Sony N200, AIOS and couples of smart media player built-in Sony/LG BD player.

I liked Sony the most for its user friendly but it has limited video codec support.

AIOS is nice but the interface and apps (Youtube, nextflix, Amazon etc...) either not avail or not user friendly

I bought one of this Ceene mainly for karaoke player since its early day.

Beside it can play most of video formats, the Karaoke function is unique because I can add song(s) into queue during playing.

However it doesn't have other apps for video streaming service (Netflix, Amazon etc...).

For home network media player and youtube plus Karaoke player it is the best.

I am just about add another media player like Sony or WD. However when checking back with Ceenee,

the newest firmware 2.8 has some improvements which makes me reconsider.

Why spending $90 for other media player and maybe $100-$200 for a karaoke player?

This $149 box can do both.

I hope there will be future improvement for apps. At least with Youtube, not all user functions are there (Subscribed, your video etc...)

Netflix, Hulu and Amazon may be far reaching but would be nice.

Cons: the box does get hot, video flicker some time.

Buy Best CeeNee Mini Full 1080p HD Karaoke/Network Media Player.Printable Karaoke list,Custom Playlist; Now

I bought this karaoke for my wife on mother Day.

Pros: very reasonable price (slightly more expensive than WD TV Live media player)

very portable (size is about a pack of cigarette),

and very advanced electronically (high definition) with HDMI output.

Besides its function as a media player (like WDTV Live)

it canwork as a karaoke machine (switch vocal to music only, create a song list etc.)

Cons: It is a little slow, and does't have built in WiFi . (you need to plug in an internet cable)

Things you need extra:

You can buy Karaoke songs downloaded in a hard drive from CeeNee venders on Ebay, or create your own from your karaoke DVDs at home and save money. You need an external hard drive (500 GB can hold about 100 songs or more)

The CeeNee Mini is not capable of playing DAT file as advertised. Also, it does not has the function to play DAT and MPG karaoke video using stereo Audio with Left or Right Channel. The Audio function only allows either Channel 1 or 2 when using karaoke function. I plan to return this device because it's cost almost 3-time as the Asus OPlay but have almos the same capability.

Sony 10DPW47R2 4X 4.7 GB DVD plus RW Discs 10-Pack

Sony 10DPW47R2 4X 4.7 GB DVD plus RW Discs 10-PackI use these daily in a Philips DVD recorder, taking them out to rip shows for saving on my computer. They are in and out and erased constantly and even with all this abuse, I have not had a single failure. I simply choose to replace them after a few months when I notice I've scratched them up a bit from all the 'in and out'.

Recently I could not find my usual 2-pack at a local store so I tried the Maxell equivalent. Big mistake. They were making horrible clicking and squeaking noises during recording and freezing up during playback. I feared I'd harmed my recorder until I bought a 10-pack of these Sonys and everything was smooth again.

I've been using these discs for over a year in two Lite-On DVRs that only cost 69.99 each, and the only time I've had a problem was when one of the DVRs was defective. They're great discs and their cases are nice, not those cheap paper sleeves or the thin plastic cases. There is a card inside that you can write on to label your discs, too.

I'm a Sony ho, and I've never been let down by any of their products. As reviewer Jeffrey stated, they can be used over and over and over; some of mine have probably been used 100s of hours, being erased and rewritten again and again.

These are very good quality blank DVD discs, which I use to record movies or TV shows. These are re-usable discs which may be recorded, erased and recorded again. The video quality is the same as the DVR quality. I generally use either in SP (2hours recording), EP (4 hours recording) modes. Other options include one hour and eight hour recording modes.

Samsung Digimax A7 7MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Zoom

Samsung Digimax A7 7MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Zoomi love this camera!

there are a ton of easy-to-use settings (ie portarait, sunset, dusk, close-up, etc.), but you can also set it to manual and do all of that yourself. the photo quality is fantastic, almost every shot is crystal clear.

i took a picture of a flower with dew drops on it, and when i uploaded it and zoomed in, i could see my reflection in one of the drops! how crazy is that?! my photo hosting site says the shots "print best up to 20x30." with my last camera, the site either said, "best up to 4x6" or "not recommended for printing" even though they looked perfectly clear to the naked eye.

in list form:

inexpensive

7 mp

crystal clear shots

able to shoot video w/ sound

lots of settings

compact

rechargeable batteries w/charger included

you will want to upgrade the memory because it comes with only 32 mb internal memory. (if you're looking to buy a memory card with the purchase of your camera online, you will need an 'sd' format card).

I recently got the DigiMax A7, and I knew it was a lower priced 7 megapixel camera, so I expected it to be good but not great. Overall, I would say it is somewhere between good and great.

One thing I recently noticed while taking pictures in the Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs is that this camera doesn't take such great pictures in lower light. Maybe I was using the wrong settings, I had it set to Automatic, and I have used cameras all my life. If I was more familiar with this camera, I would have tried more of the manual functions. I do like how you can adjust the f-stop and shutter speed to whatever you want, this may have solved my problem. The low light images came out a little bit blurrier and grainier than brighter light pictures.

In bright light, I can't say how great this camera is. In bright sunlight, which is often ideal for taking pictures, the image clarity is AMAZING. I took pictures of a valley here in Colorado, and literally, I zoomed in on a house about a mile away (after I took the picture I zoomed in while viewing it on the LCD), and although the house wasn't extremely clear, you can tell if there is someone on the deck!

I wish I could give this camera 5 stars, but to be honest if you bought a $700 7 megapixel camera, you are probably going to get a 5 star device. I believe the price paid for this camera was about $200 though, so if you are an average consumer, not a professional photographer, you will probably love this camera. You definetly can't find a better camera in this price range, and I'm hoping this camera serves me well as I would have no problem keeping this as my main camera for the next 3 years (until I beat it up)

One last thing, a friend of mine recently got a camera (6 or 7 MP) and I don't remember what brand, but it could take pictures literally like 2 per second. This camera does take about 3-5 seconds for the flash to charge back up, so it's hard to take action shots since you can't take a quick succession of pictures. That would be nice, but honestly not many cameras can do that anyway.

Buy Samsung Digimax A7 7MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Zoom Now

WOW!! I'm impressed. I just bought this camera for $177.74 at Sears. (Price match of Target sale price $188.00 minus an additional 10%). It takes great pictures 7MP, and near broadcast quality video (640x480 @ 30fps). It has full auto mode for the beginner, and full manual mode for the pro's. I love the manual mode, you can set the shutter speed from 1/2000 sec. up to a full 15 sec. exposure. With that exposure you can do those really cool night shots of the highway with the car headlights / taillights streaking by, or even take indoor pictures without using the flash. You can record audio sound bytes and attach them to a still image. I recorded the family singing "Happy Birthday" and attached it to a photo of the candles being blown out. It has adjustable white balance, and for color correction, you can choose the type of lighting being used (ie, Flourecent, Tungsten, Sunlight, etc.).

The bottom line is: This is a wonderfull camera even at the $299.00 MSRP. But, if you watch the add's you should be able to find it for under $200.00.

A friend of mine picked up one of these cameras at Sams Club for $199. He loved it. I tried it and found it was great! Records short video! Zooms so close that you can see every line in the iris of someone's eye, even though they are photographed from across the room! AND you can crop photos right in the camera, e-mail them from the camera (if you plug it into a computer) and even get bigger memory cards. Mine came with a 128 mb card, and it holds about 60 photos when set to highest quality. Also came with a carrying case, a USB cord, and a battery charger. I've loved it since the first time I tried it, and couldn't pass up the deal of just $199 with a 1 year warranty! Best camera I've ever had. May even get better if I read the manual!

The New Nextbook Premium 7SE Android 4.0 Dual Core 8GB, Compact, Hi Res & WIFI Tablet PC Black

The New Nextbook Premium 7SE Android 4.0 Dual Core 8GB, Compact, Hi Res & WIFI Tablet PC BlackJust bought this. I am comparing it to my Blackberry playbook and can say that for the price it seems that the Nextbook holds up well. Downside items are that the battery life is short, and the instruction guide puts it at 6 hours on music playback and 5 hours of Youtube watching. Acceptable battery for a low priced productbut of course the Playbook exceeds this by a day or two. Response is good, graphics and display look is fair, this is not retina display quality but acceptable. Sound is surprisingly good and my model came with a good amount of apps pre-loaded. Good for the price if you do not want to travel with a higher-priced tablet. The charging port is a pin sized, almost earphone jack style and signals the low qualityI would question the ease of adapting a battery extender or back up. Other ports are well placed. All in all-good for the low price.

PowerShot A2500 16.0 MP Digital Camera with 5x Optical Zoom and 720p HD Video Recording (Silver)

PowerShot A2500 16.0 MP Digital Camera with 5x Optical Zoom and 720p HD Video RecordingGot this yesterday and like it, had Canon PowerShot A2300 IS 16.0 MP Digital Camera with 5x Optical Zoom (Black) before. Just to note, PowerShot A2500 is an entry-level pocket camera which is very similar to PowerShot A2300: 16-megapixel 1/2.3" sensor, DiGiC 4 processor, and 5x zoom 28mm wide angle lens, 2.7" LCD. Even 720p HD video capabilities are the same.

Pros:

1. What really distinguishes it from its predecessor is Smart Auto Mode recognizing 32 shooting environments and adjusts settings for better quality. It automatically selects the best shooting settings for optimal quality based on the environmental factors (lightning I guess) to provide point'n'shoot simplicity.

2. 16.0 Megapixels, with loads of resolution pictures are still clear. High resolution is also good for producing biggest printouts.

3. 5x Optical Zoom is sufficient in most cases.

4. DIGIC 4 Image Processor. Not as fast as DIGIC 5 though fast and powerful enough to give you advanced system options, provide quick-shoot with reliable performance and low battery consumption. As far as I know DIGIC 4 is currently Canon's most efficient processor for budget cameras. BTW it has some Eco mode, that is said to be providing even faster warm-up times and saves the standard NB4L battery, but I haven't tested it yet.

5. Very lightweight, just put it into your pocket, can take it everywhere.

6. Price tag $99. You can't get any better camera for the price.

Cons:

1. Like A2300 it lacks optical image stabilization, though it's got digital image stabilization.

2. 1/2.3" sensor. Well, entry level CCD providing good pictures, not of a DSLR quality, that's all I can say.

Summary:

Sure this is not the best camera in the world. I definitely knew it when I bought the camera. BUT, I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of pictures I shot.

If you're like me (not a pro) and looking for a budget point-and-shoot camera taking family photos and events, mostly shoot in daylight or good lighting, I'd definitely recommend it, taking into account its price tag of $99 just about right.

This is my first digital camera and it's so easy even I can take great pictures. I especially like that I can take stills and videos with the same camera. I highly recommend this camera.

GoVideo DP 8440 8.4-Inch Portable DVD Player

GoVideo DP 8440 8.4-Inch Portable DVD Player
  • 8.4-inch LCD screen configured in a widescreen 16:9 format; progressive-scan video output for use with high-definition and HD-ready TVs
  • Becomes a portable TV through an optional 181-channel TV tuner (GoVideo DPT100); channel surf, adjust reception, etc, using supplied remote
  • Plays DVDs, DVD-R/RW, DVD+R/RW, music CDs, Kodak Picture CDs, JPEG image files, and MP3 audio files on CD-R/RW
  • Built-in stereo speakers, dual headphone jacks
  • Includes slim remote control, car adapter/charger, AC adapter/charger, A/V cables, and 3-hour rechargeable battery

Unit just arrived yesterday. First impressions are good. I didn't buy it for stellar electronics and video; I bought it for functionality and accessories to entertain my kids. With that in mind, it has met my expectations nicely. Tried a DVD and a CD and played them fine.

Comes with the cords and wires needed to offer input or output to the unit, power cables, remote control, and battery. One bonus was that it came w/ a case and straps! The selling info doesn't point this out. The case is large enough to hold the unit, all of its accessories, and a few DVD's.

The rating would have been 5 stars had the electronics been great as well; but as I said I didn't buy it for that. The picture is adequate, but not great. And angled viewing of the LCD could be better. Lastly, the speaker's sound is so-so, but then again my kids won't care. Besides, I have my home theater system if I want 'real' electronics anyways.

Overall, quite a nice system for the money.

=========================

Updated 9 months later...

Unit is still performing perfectly. Has even withstood a few bumps and bruises along the way from my kids. Don't lose the credit card remote because not all (but most) functionality is on the unit's buttons. (Try stopping a DVD when the unit is at a menu selection the down button doubles as the 'stop' button and thus lowers the menu selection by one rather than stopping the DVD.)

Buy GoVideo DP 8440 8.4-Inch Portable DVD Player Now

I've had this product for 1 week and love it. I also got the DP110

TV accessory and it works great at my house and work. You can scan in your local channels from the supplied antenna (which I do at work) or connect it to your cable system (which I do at home) and both have fine reception. The remote control works all functions and you can switch between TV and DVD with a touch of the finger. Once you scan in your local programs, you can then use the remote to just switch between those and not worry about any others. Even after you scan the channels, the remote lets you Fine Tune the frequency if it is off a notch.

The sound is adequate from the intenal speakers and very good from an attached headset.

The picture quality is great and you can adjust to regular or 16.1 with ease.

For those of you who are into the specs of a product, this looks like a real good buy. But there are major drawbacks to this product. The first being there is a separate battery compartment that attaches to the actual unit itself. This makes it noticibly more cumbersum to carry. The unit itself is light, but the separate battery compartment makes it feel like your now carrying a laptop. The tv tuner is also almost impossible to find to purchase, and if you do find it, good luck with trying to find a channel to watch. The picture is horrible with the antennae. And lastly, the picture on this is pretty dark. So don't get caught up in the specs, or the size, go with a better quality picture over the specs.

Want GoVideo DP 8440 8.4-Inch Portable DVD Player Discount?

I have looked at several players before deciding to keep the GoVideo DP8440. The other player that I retured was the RCA DRC618N tablet style player.

I read MANY reviews on the DP8440...some of which are slightly accurate. I mainly play burned DVD-R & DVD+R disks on my player and found this player to play anything and everything without pauses. My biggest problem with other players have been their inability to read burned DVDs and some that were a little smudges and scratched. I ran this model through about 7 disks and played them in full before giving it my thumbs up.

As far as the video quality...I think it could be better, but the size of the screen more than makes up for my unhappiness with portable player resolutions. This issue is not unique to this player. The best way to test it is try to read the credits to a movie. For the most part, the text is pretty jaggy.

The audio quality from the speakers isn't great, but what do you want? It is a portable unit with 1" speakers.

The quality of the case and buttons is fine, but the buttons do seem kinda cheap. The remote is nice and the instructions thorough. This player does not come with any kind of case, so make sure you budget another $40 to shop for a case.

I can't give it 5 stars just because of the lack of a carrying case and the resolution on the video I think could be better, and the quality of the buttons.

I've had this player for a couple of weeks now, and am very pleased with it's performance. I hastily purchased a different portable DVD player, but it started making a funny noise and quite playing my dvd's. I returned it and did research for my next purchase. I liked this unit because of it's versatility. I wanted to play different formats and I liked the optional TV tuner that can be purchased. So far, I have only played DVD+R, J-Peg photo CD's and store bought DVD's. Most have complained that the picture is too dark, I tend to have the opposite problem with the picture on the DVD+R's being too bright. The biggest complaint I have is that with the lithium battery on the unit, it won't fit into the generic DVD bag that I bought. I need to find something that will accommodate the extra inches added on to the back of the unit, so I don't have to have it plugged in all of the time when we travel with it.

3-4-05 udate...

I have had great luck with this DVD player. It's simple enough that my 3 year old can run it. I have not had any problems with the any of the DVD+ or -R's that I have played in it. I still have not found a bag that it will fit in though.

The converted picture to 1080p is really amazing! (I don't feel like I need to get a Blue-Ray player...)

One small complain: to change mode from 4:3 to 16:9 you need to stop watching, go into the setup menu and do it.

It would be nice to have a button on the remote to do this.

(We just finished watching a DVD that had been recorded in 4:3, so it looked squished on our HD TV until we figured out how to change that aspect ratio...)

The DV-220V-K is a great little machine in most respects. For simple commercial DVD's the HDMI upscale sound and picture quality are impressive, as good as my HD satelite reception which, in my humble opinion, is excellent. Menu options for tweaking sound and picture are adequate and the size of the machine (14" wide vs 17" wide for most DVD players) is appreciated. I have two complaints. As stated in another review, I wish the player had more picture size options. It offers 4:3 and 16:9 aspect ratios in the initial setup and two zoom levels, both adequate for inspecting Johnny Depp's nasal hair but not much else. I hate the letterbox effect and I would really like an incremental zoom control of some kind on the remote. I can't compensate with my TV controls because my TV will stretch but it won't zoom. My second complaint is the skimpy operating manual. It tells you almost nothing about what effect the various menu contols will have so trial and error are the order of the day (be sure to set the picture resolution to the highest your TV can handle). In conclusion, I have to say that this player is far better in almost every respect than my previous purchase which was a Samsung F-1080 (big disappointment) and the price is better than right.

Want Pioneer DV-220V-K HDMI 1080p Upscaling DVD Player Discount?

Finally I can play an avi file without having to burn it! This DVD player rocks!!!

Just received this yesterday, 03/10/10, and it has played avi files on DVD-R and a flash drive. I will update in a few weeks. But so far so good. Picture with HDMI upconversion with a store bought DVD is near Blu-ray. The picture with a DVD-R with a burned movie on it is decent quality.

Over a month later, and it continues to be an awesome DVD player. Knock on wood! Seriously thinking of ordering another one for the bedroom.

Panasonic KX-TS730S 8-Microphone Conference Speakerphone with Caller ID and 120-Minute Recording

Panasonic KX-TS730S 8-Microphone Conference Speakerphone with Caller ID and 120-Minute RecordingSetting this up was simple and took just a few minutes from opening the box. The sound quality is about as high as from the mega-$$ Polycom systems in corporate conference rooms. People on the other end do not suspect that you are on a speakerphone.

I thought this unit with its 4 sided design makes more sense than a 3 sided units. Calls are clear and mics are sensitive so be careful what you whisper, use the mute button instead. Recording feature is a nice touch. Phone and power cords are designed for a conference phone in mind, with its "y" design, one single cord is connected to the unit. This unit is easy to move around and looks clean and profession.

I have to participate on a lot of early morning and late night teleconferences so I bought this phone on sale for use at home because my portable phones never seemed to have enough battery life to make it through a long teleconference. Even though it is only me on the phone, this phone allows me to get up and walk around my house and still be listening to the call -plus it has a large mute button for when the dogs start to bark :) The sounds quality is fabulous.

Bought 3 of these for our conference rooms to replace expensive Polycoms. These give much better performance--the sound is better and listeners hear everyone around a 12' conference table without a problem.

We have been using this for a few years at our business and it has worked well. The sound quality is good, and the speaker fills our conference room easily. Recording works excellent, although the only way of transferring the recordings to a computer is to hook it up to your line-in and record to your computer as it's playing back. The only real downside I have come across with this device is the inability to adjust the mic volume aside from muting, and the lack of a mic input. On occasion, we use this device in much larger rooms that require connecting it to a PA system. Unfortunately, the mics are so strong, you cannot give the PA much volume at all before it feedbacks terribly.

Canon XL-H1 3CCD High Definition Camcorder with 20x Optical Zoom

Canon XL-H1 3CCD High Definition Camcorder with 20x Optical ZoomThe Canon XL-H1 is king of DV and live video productions!

The low light quality is unmatched on any camera in it's class.

The ergonomics are spectacular, making the camera excellent for smooth handheld shots.

The buttons are accessible in awkward positions and are easy to use, plus there are programmable buttons that can be personalized.

This is a serious camera for any serious job.

All Canon HDV cameras has an important issue: if you record in 24F or 30F modes, the tapes can only be played back in the camera itself. Canon records those signals in a proprietary mode that is not HDV compliant. YOU CANNOT PLAYBACK THE TAPES IN ANY DECK OR CAMERA other than Canon.

VideoSecu 1 Pair Video Balun Network Transceiver with Video Audio Power Connectors 1EK

VideoSecu 1 Pair Video Balun Network Transceiver with Video Audio Power Connectors 1EKI have been using these Baluns for several weeks to connect to a 12v high resolution color underwater video camera through a 500' cat5e cable. Image is perfect and voltage drop isn't too bad(about 1/2v every 100 feet). Great buy at this price. (Make sure your source voltage is high enough to counter the voltage drop or you won't be able to power your camera)

I purchased video baluns that look like these from another company at a much higher price ($35.00). I thought I try these at half the cost an after they arrived I found them to be in a different package and both were made in China, identical right down to the stickers. I have used these for at least 5 months now and the quality of video is great.

Why pay more for the same product, I highly recommend these.

It is nice to know I can just pull Cat5 wires and have audio, video, and power ready.

These things worked perfectly, it is the only way I'll ever set up CCTV again for the rest of my life. I ran one stretch of wire almost 300 feet through conduit to my gate at the beginning of my driveway to catch license plates.

Checking the video coming in through this and coming in over the standard 60' cables with just Audio/power there seems to be less noise and interference going over Cat5. foolish to not use these!!!

The only downside is the size of the unit with the BNC connection fastened to it. not a big deal.

I bought four of these and all four worked perfect. What a time saver. Much easier than dealing with BNC cables and connectors.

I ordered a competing video balan which arrived DOA. I got 5 of this balun and they all worked as expected. The video quality is excellent over all of my Cat 5 runs (my longest is about 80 ft). Easy to hook up. Great price relative to others I saw. Highly recommend.

Dealheroes USB Voice Recorder - Discreet 2GB Flash Drive, 8 Hour Digital Recorder

Dealheroes USB Voice Recorder - Discreet 2GB Flash Drive, 8 Hour Digital RecorderI was hesitant about buying this recorder after reading some of the reviews... But I am so glad I did! I charged it on my laptop & it recorded for 8 & 1/2 hours. The description said 8 hours, but I was impressed it even made it that long, let alone go an extra 30min! The battery hasn't died yet, but I haven't used it again either. The sound quality is good too. This was definetly worth the cheap price & it was $18.49 with free shipping (prime member) when I got it.

Works fine if you are recording your own voice and holding the device like a microphone. Just don't expect to be able to record sound in a room. The playback (at full volume on powered stereo speakers)is so faint that it is impossible to make out anything but a very close speaker holding the device within inches.

I bought this tiny voice recorder, only 2GB, and it is a flash drive. You can record on it for 2 or 3 hours, it is amazing. It looks like a ordinary flash drive, but it is not, you can record on it. And the mic really puts out. I layed this little recorder on a chair clear across the room and talked normally, and it pick up my voice with no trouble. Then I went out to eat and lid it on a counter beside my coffee cup. And it picked up almost all of the waitresses conversaytions, sneaky isn't it. when I GOT HOME AND PLUGED IT IN MY COMPUTER, I WAS AMAZED HOW CLEAR EVERY CONVERSATION WAS, THEN I ERASED ALL OF THE VOICES. THIS GADGET DOES WHAT IT IS SUPPOSE TO DO AND MORE. I reccommend this tiny recorder flash drive. Jim in ohio.

I bought this primarily so that I could record my thoughts and then transcribe them to text using Dragon Naturally Speaking. Over the years, I've used a number of different recorders with varying degrees of success. This is the only one that I now use consistently for the purpose of transcription. While the accuracy is not perfect, nothing is, I am extremely surprised at how good the sound quality is so that Dragon can create text with a high degree of accuracy. I've always wanted a device that I could rely on for this purpose; this is the first one to win my confidence.

The recorder was inexpensive and is easy to use. I wish the hole for a chain was a little bigger. I made a necklace out of thin yarn to carry it around my neck while I walk the dogs. I am am amateur novelist and many plot twists come to me when I am away from the computer. Now I can dream them up any time I have a moment. I got several more to give to my writer friends for Christmas.
