This is my 4th attempt at buying a portable digital TV since the over the air broadcast standard changed from analog to digital 3 years ago in June 2009. I've already been through the 7 inch VIZIO and two 7 inch COBYs. I had to return them all what a waste of time and energy. None of them was satisfactory (see reviews) but this little RCA looks like a keeper.

In my metro area, I am able to pick up 12 channels with the included antenna.

The picture is bright, reasonably clear and the color very natural.

The screen has a dull, non-reflective surface so you're not looking at the reflection of your own face as is the case with the pricey VIZIO which has a very shiny screen. The RCA display is 234H x 480W PIXELS.

The clarity is quite acceptable noticeably better than the COBYs but not as sharp as the hi-resolution VIZIO which has inferior color and NO tint control.

The sound is clear but tinny and it's consistent in level from channel to channel. The audio is NOT as good as the COBYs but far superior to the very weak VIZIO. There is a headphone output allowing for use of a headset or powered external speakers.

The image scaling is excellent. If you set the aspect ratio to AUTO, the picture is properly proportioned from widescreen stations to those broadcasting in the old standard 4:3 format. Circles are always round and people are NOT stretched wide to look short and fat. VIZIO could not get that right.

Here's a plus unlike the VIZIO, when you power down, the RCA retains the channels you found as you would expect a TV to do.

The RCA has a full range of picture and audio controls as well as closed caption capability.

I have yet to connect it to cable or test battery play time.

I am just so happy to have a decent portable TV again. At this nice low price point, this TV is worth buying.

Though I wish it had a higher resolution screen, this will do nicely until something better comes along.

I've been researching these little beasts for 3 years now and in my opinion, this is the best portable TV on the market for now.

1 MONTH UPDATE:

We had a very bad storm come through on 6-29-2012 and were without electric power for almost 3 days. This little TV was a blessing. The battery only lasts about 90 minutes but I previously bought a 12 volt car adapter that allowed continued viewing. I also re-routed our cable signal to the 7 inch TV and scanned for cable channels. It found all 65 analog stations but none of the digital QAM signals. Most importantly, it found the cable radar station.

A day later, I rescanned for the unscrambled digital stations and it found all 16 of them.

The RCA 7 inch HDTV is a good portable HDTV, but it's not perfect. Surprisingly the TV does not have a built in telescoping whip antenna but a short 6 inch antenna which attaches to the TV by it's 30 inch cable. Although a whip antenna wouldn't be great it would be vastly superior to the included antenna. Curiously this set up exists in other portable TV's too. All these 6 inch vertical TV antennas are a joke unless you and the antenna can actually see the television station's transmitting tower, that's all you should expect from these antennas. Face it, would you connect a 6 inch antenna to your home TV and expect reception? This micro antenna also has a very thin coaxial cable. Without getting into the science of it, thin coax loses whatever signal it's carrying very, very quickly even over short lengths like 30 inches. Bottom line the supplied antenna and it's cable is junk. The tuner in this RCA TV is just as good as most home TV tuner's, it just needs an adequate antenna to work well.

The remote works fine but uses what I call bubble buttons. They all feel the same because they all have the same round bubble shape. This is different from most home TV remotes where one can feel the different round, square, or triangular shape of various buttons without needing to look and study which feature is which.

Finally the Li-ion battery is built into the TV. I see no means to replace it if/when it eventually fails.

Otherwise, the RCA works quite well and I like it. This RCA TV also has the standard coax connector antenna fitting that is used with real coax. Some portable TV's use a proprietary micro connector that is impossible to connect to real coax. This unit is nice to have on camping trips and the like but again be prepared to get a true functional small portable antenna preferably using real coax, for any of these portable TV's, these antennas do exist. Something like the Mohu Leaf or Terk antenna should work (I haven't tried them though). Don't buy the old school rabbit ears. They were designed for old analog TV's which operated mostly on VHF frequencies. Today's HDTV's mostly use UHF bands, the obsolete rabbit ears were never designed to work on the UHF band. I could explain the science but your eyes would glaze over after an hour.

I was replacing an Auvio 3.5" screen w/this unit because I didn't like having to replace batteries as often, and it didn't seem to have a car adapter available, and the home adapter was half the cost of the unit price.

The RCA unit has a rechargeable battery and comes w/both a car and home recharger and larger screen for about the same price I'd paid originally. A secondary benefit was the external coaxial(RF) connector for a better antenna connection, also.

The only drawbacks were the small antenna that doesn't really provide good reception and the really POOR remote control, which almost doesn't work, very difficult key responses, as well as no better reception than the Auvio unit has.

Overall, a better value, but nothing to brag about. It's worth the price, though.

At some point almost every kid in America has had a desire for a small portable television set that could be sneaked into bed and used under the covers after one parent or the other has announced that it's "lights out" for the night. This RCA 7" Portable TV is just the type of device that so many of us fell asleep dreaming about, wishing that we had one.

On a more serious note, NPR ran a program a couple of years ago, 'Medical Detectives Focus On Myopia,' and in an interview Dr. Don Mutti (College of Optometry, Ohio State University) noted that "near-work" the things you do close up with your eyes, like reading or watching television or playing video games, had been a suspect as one of the causes of myopia for many years. German astronomer Johannes Kepler wrote about it about 400 years ago, and Dr. Mutti's advice was simple: "Don't watch too much TV, or don't read, you know, under the covers with a flashlight."

That being said, I found that this small 7-inch television didn't need to be viewed that closely, and that arm's length was an excellent viewing distance where the picture could be viewed clearly and easily once everything was set up as per the instructions. But let's get past the good and bad first...

Pros:

* Easy setup; good instruction manual, easy to follow

First Impressions Setup:

This television was well packaged, and was better in that respect than many on the market. It came with the TV itself, a remote control with CR2025 battery, a power adapter, a telescoping antenna with a magnetic base, a power adapter and a user guide. Following the directions, connected the antenna and plugged in the 12V power adapter, then turned the TV on. The manual said to perform an auto scan to search for the locally available channels. And that's where the first problem arose, as in the NYC area there are plenty channels, yet the reception ranged from just OK to very poor, which I found to be quite surprising from RCA.

Long story short, the supplied antenna is just about worthless. After charging the TV for a couple of hours, took it outside to a park area, did another auto scan, and found that reception was reasonably improved, but it didn't help indoor reception. Tried it briefly with my older Terk Technology HDTVi VHF/UHF HDTV Indoor Antenna and the reception improved greatly, but this antenna is somewhat directional and I didn't feel like having to readjust and auto scan for better reception every time the TV was moved. Came online here and read a number of reviews, then ordered the RCA ANT1450BM Refurbished Multi-Directional Digital Flat Amplified HDTV Antenna (reviewed here separately) which was on sale at the time. It arrived a few days later, and once it was hooked up, the reception was excellent. Note that this TV has an industry-standard coaxial antenna connector that enables it to be used with cable television if you like.

In Use:

Once the new antenna was installed and the auto scan was performed, found this television to be excellent in all respects. The size is small yet not too tiny, and the reception on all channels is first-rate. The available controls for setting such items as the picture, audio, V-chip and other controls are quite good, and if you (or someone else) screws them up, there's a reset option to restore things to the default settings.

Thought that the tiny remote control was nothing other than cute at first, but once one uses it for a while it has proven to be the preferred method of controlling this TV. The stereo sound wasn't so good until I plugged in a set of ear bud headphones, and the difference was remarkable.

Summary:

As with anything, how a product is rated has a lot to do with its performance vs. the price paid. In my case, I bought this here on a Lightning Deal when the price was below forty buck, which made it an exceptional value, even with the almost useless antenna. From past experience with televisions over the years, I expected that the antenna would have to be replaced, and was glad that RCA had chosen to not use a built-in telescoping antenna that would have to be adjusted every few minutes. All this being said, will have to say that at the regular price this would probably be a very solid +4-star product, but with an upgraded antenna, it's subjectively worthy of a 5-star recommendation... and don't let your kids use it under the covers late at night.

I find that this TV is amazing considering the price.

Using the magnetic six inch antenna that was included with the unit, I was able to receive ninety-eight channels including twelve PBS channels.

This TV presents a nice picture with many picture and audio controls and also, it has built-in speakers (stereo) with the option of using headphones or ear buds.

The battery life is indicated to be limited to one hundred minutes but, that should suffice whenever there is a power outage and you would like to check periodic news updates.

I also found that 12 volt car adapter plugs into this TV and can also serve to recharge the TVs' built-in battery.

EDIT: I have, since this original review was published, purchased another of these for my wife and was greatly disappointed. Not the same software as in the unit I reviewed, and in fact, there is a media management program on the drive that is a real P.O.S and difficult to get around. In addition, it lasted exactly one month and a day before it lost its programming, and Centon does not provide any sort of support for these things, so no firmware updates or even backup versions of the software are available.

The unit I reviewed was purchased through Comp USA, and the players now available are through another company, so I'm forced to conclude there were different versions sold through different companies. If you can get the Comp USA version, I'd say go for it. Otherwise, the COBY MP315-4G Coby Micro MP3 Player MP315-4GBLK (Black), while only a 4Gb player, not only uses the software I reviewed here, but is so much better made and so much more reliable that the smaller memory size really doesn't matter. ANY of the COBY 300-series battery powered MP3 players easily outstrip this CENTON, hands down.

I've used a lot of MP3 players over the past few years and this one is a piece of junk. The controls are poorly designed and it kept freezing so that it couldn't even be turned off without removing the battery. I'm going back to a Coby player they're better than any by Creative Zen or Sansa.

Because I like the form factor of a built-in USB connection, I purchased one of these and one of the jWIN audio players at the same time, to see if either was a good product. They both appear to have the same user interface/menu, and might be produced by the same companyhowever, I'm not certain of this. I am a seasoned user of audio players, and have been successful with a variety of products (Creative, Apple, Samsung, etc). Unfortunately, the menu/user interface and navigation capabilities of this product are virtually impossible to use, making it worthless as a music player.

I was looking for a low small and low cost musinc player for running. Because of the abuse I give these devices, I didn't want to spend much, as any of the previous music players I have used only gave me about a year of service. Sweat, rain and regular impacts with hard objects take their toll. This one was as good as any I have owned before, was fairly easy to drive and is still working years later. At 8GB it will hold about 1500 songs, good enough for many miles of happy cruising.

I purchased this for recording autio during board meetings with 35+ in attendance. The sound is great! The only problems I see with it is that the microphones I purchased didn't work with the recorder. I could use the extra microphones but then the microphones on the recorder did not work. I thought needed to purchase the more expensive microphones but I tested it out without any extra microphones and it worked great! The battery life on the recargable batteries was ok. If you wanna use the power cord the recorder doesn't stand up... big bummer. But all in all I love it!

Love my Zoom!!! So many features... Sound is great, almost too good. The mics are very sensitive and pick up a bit more of the room than I would like sometimes. Other times it sounds just right. But don't let me confuse you, This is a great piece!! Recommend using the wind guard pretty much all the time. I was really surprised once I got a file into my computer and touched it up a bit. It sounded incredibly clean and true. Live percussion with a little reverb added, sounds amazing. The effects are cool too. Well worth the price. Incredibly handy to keep in your bag and a whole lotta fun!!! It's simple.... Buy one!

JVC Everio GZ-MG730 7.2MP 30 GB Hard Drive Camcorder with 10x Optical Zoom (Includes Everio Dock)

I really like this camera. It is compact, shoots nice stills and has good sound qualities. The interface is intuitive and I was tweking settings right out of the box with little or no reference to the manual. It is perfect for quick family videos and fits in a small camera bag, making it easy to transport. The problem is when you shoot long videos and want to edit them down. I have found that for my purposes the .MOD format this camera produces is old and has to be converted to .avi or .wmv for the sort of editing I want to do. That means a very long conversion process through the supplied software, which I did not find particularly usable or helpful. The autofocus also has issues indoors in medium lighting and the image stabilization is not the best out there. If you want a happy cam to grab shots of the family and friends, then this is a really good buy. Otherwise, spend the extra and go for a unit that has more flexibility with its video outputs. I started out loving this camera , but every day I find something else I dislike about it.

I got his camera for $600, and it was a great purchase. First, the camera is very compact which makes it easy to carry around. Even with its size, it has a 30GB storage and a 10x opitical zoom. I like the f/1.8 Konica Minolta lens, which focuses very quickly and takes some great-looking still photos. The 7-megapixel sensor also helps with its recording. Videos are recorded in MPEG format so it is very esay to transfer onto your computer for editing; no conversion necessary. Colors were very pleasing and white balance was also good. Definitely worth purchasing

Like most of you are planning on doing, the Pyle HDMI looks like a great solution to running HDMI wires behind your wall. The problem is that although the plate seems functional, it isn't . The HDMI connection on the back has two 90 degree female connection couplets. In order for the cables to fit, you have to sacrifice one cable and have one of the HDMI female couplet going downward. Like any expert will tell you, this will damage, your hdmi cable because you will be forced to bend the cable to run along side the other HDMI cable going upward.I broke one of my hDMI cables doing the instillation of the plate. Lucky for me, I was able to get a spare but had I known that the 90 degree couplets would be going opposite to each other and that it would ruin one of my cables, I would have never purchased it. I ended up buying a cheaper face plate and a more practical one. Solution, a face plate that funnels the cables out of the wall and covers the nasty whole. $5.00 with shipping as oppose to the twenty something dollars I spent on this face plate.

Maxell 648200 700 MB 80 min CD-R 100 Pack

I have used several different brands of cd-r's for burning "backup" copies of music CDs and saving data files, and I have not found any that were consistently as good as these. Other brands I have used had a higher number of faulty discs in the package some as high as 10%!

Also, don't be scared by the size of this pack! 100 discs might seem like overkill, but believe me once you start to use them you will find that 100 go pretty quickly!

Bottom line, these Maxells are good quality at an excellent price.

First, let me state that I had 100% perfect burns with each disc, and I burned all 100. However, that's not attributable to the quality of the discs themselves, just that my CD-RW was compatible with the discs. So why did I not give 5 stars?

The disks are not all that durable, which is fine if you are making incremental backups of data that you won't be keeping for extended periods of time. For LONG TERM storage though, I would not trust these. The film/dye they use has already shown some wear after only 1 month of delicate handling. Holes have started to appear in the dye causing read errors, chips have started showing around the edges (I keep them in hard plastic cases, no idea how they chipped).

One thing I wish all CD-R distributors would publish on the outside of their packaging, is the actual manufacturer of the discs. For instance, Maxell does not make these discs, RITEK does. Had only I known that before, I would not have purchased them (google "Ritek CDR quality" to discover why they are not the most well regarded manufacturer).

My opinion? Kodak makes the best LONG TERM archival discs you can buy. You pay much more for Kodak disks, but if you really need safe storage for your photos or documents, it's worth the extra money for the peace of mind (and no, I don't work for kodak).

These Maxell CD-Rs are great.

First, I've only had one burn failure, which was mainly my fault because it had scratches all over it. The CDs are very reliable, and they have a hard time scratching.

The data works like new, unlike some of the other brands (especially Memorex) who's data comes out reading very slow and choppy. But Maxell is perfect, making extra copies of games run perfectly, and without poor graphics and gameplay.

Music doesn't sound distorted (like Imatation), and it sounds just as good as the MP3 on your computer.

I only have one negative, which is kind of a funny negative. They, for some reason, smell AWFUL! Yes, these discs smell really bad, and don't ask me why because I wouldn't know.

I've had a lot of companys of CD-Rs, but Maxell has some of the best, and I highly recommend them. Go through a lot of CD-Rs in a 20 pack? Buy this! You can't go wrong!

I went shopping recently at a local store that sells computer hardware and the like; and I picked up my third helping of these great CD-Rs by Maxell! Maxell makes a very reliable blank CD-R that can handle up to 80 minutes of music or 700 megabytes of data. Moreover, these blank CD-Rs are capable of recording data at high speeds. I have used these as data discs and discs to record audio. I almost never got a coaster. Great!

The CD-R discs are compact and easy to store. While the discs are still blank, store them in the circular case on the spindle that they came in. After your burn data or music onto them, I would recommend storing them in slim jewel cases instead of paper sleeves. It's just better protection for your CD-Rs that have anything stored on them. Don't store these discs, burnt or blank, in rooms that become very hot; this causes damage to any brand of this type of disc and you could lose data over time.

There are two caveats that many other people note about any brand of this product: when you are burning the data onto the blank disc, don't be surprised if you see that the data is burning at a rate slower than the packaging advertises. This can happen if your burner doesn't have the capacity to burn faster, or it may be a quirk. I am not a professional so I cannot be certain of precisely what causes this phenomenon; but I assure you that the extra minute or two (tops) that you wait to get your CD-R completed is worth the wait. In addition, DON'T write on these using Sharpie ink pens. The ink can seep through the top coating of the CD-R disc and slowly but surely compromise your data--and you wouldn't want that, now would you? If you need to label the discs, label its jewel case using a post-it note.

Overall, Maxell blank CD-R discs store data very reliably and I believe that an extra minute or so to burn the data onto the blank disc is well worth it just in case it doesn't actually burn at the very highest speed advertised.

These Maxell CD-Rs are much better than Memorex. For music, it doesn't have any unwanted zzz....sounds like Memorex does, and is like live; for photos, it is vivid and fresh; for data, it copies the information correctly, smoothly. It's a little bit expensive than Memorex brand, but it is worth the money. Highly recommended.

I had to buy a camera for my video production class at college. My teacher told us we had to get a DV camera, but i previously have had difficulty with tape so that was my last choice. I put hours of research in to find a tape alternative that worked with Final cut pro and Adobe Premiere Pro. This is that alternative. It shoot great looking HD video and is an ease to edit using those two programs. The still images on it is nothing to write home about, but come on lets be serious. You don't buy a camcorder to take stills, you buy a camcorder to record videos. After my class was over my teacher changed his requirements in a camera after seeing the quality of video i shot with it.

After much research and going back and forth with a non-HD Sony Handycam, we got this camera last week and so far it has really made a difference when viewing videos on our 50" HD TV screen on HDMI. It is pretty user friendly (although I found the Sony Handycam more user friendly). If you're in the market for an HD (Hi-Def) camcorder, this is the value winner.

The Everio HD takes decent stills, but definitely takes a backseat to our Canon point & shoot. On that note, our Canon 800IS P&S takes comparable quality videos to the Everio when you see them on a computer (you're just limited to 1.5 min. clips if it's holding pictures too).

The clarity (esp. outside) is excellent. The only downside is that you need a steady hand to operate b/c the "anti-shake" technology needs a little work. I suppose you win on picture quality on the flipside... unless you're willing to shell out another $300 for more steady images on top of picture sharpness. If you get an HD camera, be prepared to get a bigger battery b/c it sucks up power more quickly than a regular videocam.

I got this mainly to record our 1 year old, beginning with her birthday party coming up.

I recently bought this camcorder to record a friend's wedding and was impressed with the quality of this little camcorder. It is not heavy and fairly easy to use. Indoor recording is okay. I used a high LED light in order to record decently, but outdoors it looks very crisp.

One huge downfall for me is the battery life. If you make this purchase, you most definitely want to also buy an extra charger and battery. The camcorder sucked the life out of my battery and I spent most of my time standing next to an outlet in order to record the wedding, which made it difficult to move around freely.

I love the HDMI port and the x.V.Color option as well.

**Mac USERS**

If you have a Mac, you will have some issues downloading to your computer. With most JVCs I have owned, they are not very Mac friendly. I used a Wondershare Video Converter to download all my video clips from the camcorder to my Mac (I had to download the converter from the internet for about $21 but it's worth having). So please be advised about that IF you are a Mac user.

Otherwise, a great camcorder for the price.

Total Fun

The video looks so so good. It's really easy to use. Spend time reading the instructions and less than an hour

you could be shooting video. Toggle thru the menu and if you get lost just hit menu

and start again. The battery that is included last only about 1 hour.

I bought 2 three hour batteries which can be found here(amazon) for around $34 $39 plenty of prices to choose from.

The instructions will tell you which batteries you can use for replacement.

If you have imovie 09' it is so easy to upload the video. I use an Imac with the imovie 09' and it works perfect.

I did my research and looked for what camcorders are compatible with imovie 09 and Imac.

I found a list of all that will and will not work with my computer setup.

Whether your going to use it for making movies or not do the research.

What i have recorded for the first month since owning this camcorder and using the imovie software

my video has total life. Again research people and look up youtube and see how awesome

it is to use this camera with imovie 09 or Final cut express 4 or whatever software you want to use.

Bottom line this camcorder works for what i need and if i could show you my video

you would think you are watching a hollywood or indie movie made with this camcorder.

"Fortunately" JVC sells additional batteries for almost half the price of the camera ($79 and up depending on the size). That is a cruel trick.

The video is good, but the camera should not be dieing so fast.

First, thank you to the previous reviewers: I had several questions regarding this product such as "does it support Wireless Encryption?" and the previous reviews really helped...by the way yes, it supports WEP.

What you will need if you want to use this:

1) Wireless Internet Access (Wireless Router and Connection to Internet) within range of your DVR

2) Series 2 DVR (with USB plug)

3) A computer for some of the advanced features

Once you have these two things then using this product is amazingly simple to set up for about 80% of "Lucky People."

1) Plug it In

2) Follow the Instructions

3) Enter your WEP key (alphanumeric or hexadecimal --alphanumeric is much easier)

4) I had to restart my DVR

5) If you're connecting a computer and using TivoToGo, you have to install the software on your computer...which also has to be connected to the network for your TIVO to see it and for your computer to see your TIVO and you'll need your Media Access Key.

Benefits I received from this product:

1) I don't have to use a phone line to get updates (no dialing)

2) TIVO updates come much faster over Broadband (Faster updates)

3) I bought TIVO to Go Plus --extra $$ from TIVO for the license key that you use with the computer software and I can listen to my iPod music through my Bose in my living room

4) I have my picture library shared....baby pictures are nice on the television....but caution, the quality of the pictures will only be as good as your TV....ie HDTV is still not as good as a good laptop screen and if you don't have HDTV, they'll only look as good as your TVs best resolution. Its still very cool to show baby pictures on the big TV.

5) I have a huge Attached Hard Drive array on my computer...its really a Server...so I offload movies I plan to keep and they're always there when I want to watch them so the 180hour DVR size limit kindof doesn't apply.

Issues / Challenges:

1) You have to know a little bit about computers if you want to get some of the more complex benefits such as share pictures, music, download movies.....ie you have to know about firewalls, how to install software, IP addresses and things like that.

2) If you have wireless access already set up and just want to use it to connect to the internet and get program updates instead of using your phone line, its pretty easy but you'll have to a) have DHCP turned on or b) assign it a static IP......for those of you who think I just typed in Greek, chances are that you have DHCP but if you happen not to, you could bump into problems.

3) If you want to listen to your IPod, share pictures, download to your computer, please make sure to read the software/hardware requirements for your computer.

Overall, these are my thoughts on the average person installing this easily:

A) 80% of the people who buy this should have Zero problems installing this product because you have a standard network configuration, know your way around networks, or are just lucky.

B) 20% of the people who buy this who don't have a standard Wireless network configuration AND don't have some knowledge of networking....you could become frustrated at trying to connect this product ESPECIALLY if you want to use some of the advanced functionality.

My Luck:

1) Start to finish it took me 5 minutes to install this to get its updates through the wireless network.

2) It took me about 30 minutes to install all the other software and get everything configured to share music, pictures and enable TivoToGo on my computer.

7 ) Used on-screen signal strength to reposition Adapter and router antenna.

8 ) Connected to Tivo service.

This Tivo Wireless Adapter is way better than the D-Link usb wireless adapter I was using on my Tivo. The performance increase (transfer speed from Tivo to PC using Tivo Desktop software) was about 25-40%. Signal reception also improved as displayed on the Tivo itself to "Good 70%" instead of "Fair 50%".

I highly recommend this adapter if you are interested in taking advantage of some of Tivo's more advanced functionlity like transfering programs to your PC to burn to DVD or transfer to other Tivos in your house.

For the last 10 months I connected my Tivo's wirelessly, using a Netgear and a Linksys Adapter I had nothing but problems, the signal strength in the network did not remain constant, resulting in one of the boxes not communicating. I tried using two Linksys, the same problem.

Tivo customer service suggesting I invest in their branded Adapters and since installing them (which was a breeze), I have had no more problems.

It has a very small footprint and is powered by the Tivo Unit not another AC power-supply behind the TV, of which I have tons.

One great benefit of this is that now the Tivo service can check several times a day instead of just once every 24hrs or so using the phone-line. This seems to keep the Guide a lot more up to date.

I am very satisfied with it's ease of setup, functionality, and even it's esthetics.

The dmp-bdt500 is Panasonic's answer to the audiophile's desire to have a machine that offers superb video AND audio playback--they have succeeded. The highlights of this machine are the four Burr-Brown 192kHz/32-bit DAC's, 7.1 channel analog output, higher end capacitors and a more robust construction. I will express my opinion(s) about the design, engineering and performance. This machine is a Blu-ray player (and dvds of course), a cd player and is has built-in Wi-Fi for streaming movies, music and such. Therefore, it has the potential of being a 'one stop' solution for all of our home media needs and desires. And hopefully, it will have the ability to satiate the needs of the audiophile without sacrificing performance for the sake of convenience.

DESIGN

This machine is handsome, if not understated. It is sleek without being tiny. It is elegant--not ostentatious. It 'hits the mark' without trying too hard. Panasonic, though a quality brand, has not always had the prettiest components. For many years (of late) I found myself scratching my head at the eccentricities of some of Panasonic's designs. There were weird, translucent stripes buried within the skin(s) of their televisions and disc players. Panny's had conservative looking shapes in a market rife with "pretty" electronic sculptures, and digital displays that featured antiquated sticks rather than the more aesthetically pleasing dot matrix variety. For these reasons, I am very impressed with the design of the dmp-bdt500. The deck is a well built machine with a mirrored facade; the bottom third of the front facade fades from a mirror to a nice brushed silver finish. The "Panasonic" logo is centered onto the mirrored section of the faceplate. The top of the machine is sort of blackish, with four touch-sensitive buttons and a brushed appearance. The brushed look gives the machine a feeling of cohesion (with the faceplate) and will serve to obscure any future scratches. Another welcome design feature is the bright metal feet--they look elegant, but also serve to stabilize the deck. These circular feet are the best I've ever seen on a Panasonic disc player.

My critique of the design has to do with the look of the player once the faceplate drops down to reveal the disc tray. The look of the front panel is dull in comparison to the mirrored faceplate. It is a sort of washed out black color which does not seem to gel appropriately with the aesthetic of such a high-end machine. Keep in mind--this is Panasonic's highest end offering--her flagship deck. It is not terrible though...just nearly so. But, once the disc tray closes and the faceplate swings back into place, it is like a so-so looking wife who transforms into gorgeousity (ok...so it is not a word) once her face is painted. The player is pretty though, but not perfect because of the previously mentioned reasons. But, it will not look out of place in the company of higher end components--it's a classy deck.

ENGINEERING

I am not an engineer--or a scientist (this is why I am so charming). However, spec-wise this player is a tremendous value. In order to get Burr-Brown 192kHz/32-bit DAC's into a disc player, the consumer usually has to spend about a thousand bucks or more (do the research if you are inclined to disagree). The dmp-bdt500 also has 7.1 channel analog output, high end capacitors, gold plated terminals (a gimmick as far as I am concerned), and nice, stabilizing feet. The construction of the deck is hefty and substantial. The touch sensitive buttons are also a nice addition to this player (although many BD players have this these days). Just by looking at the spec sheet, it should be evident that this is Panasonic's best offering yet. On paper, it is the best deck Panasonic has ever built...and it is only $350 (or less). Value-wise, this player is simply untouchable, one would have to spend three times the amount to get the same "stuff".

PERFORMANCE

But how does she play? I am here to tell you...she plays like buttuh.....this deck is n-i-i-i-i-c-e. Although music is most important to me, I popped in a Blu-ray. Since I really dig classic movies on Blu-ray, I played Hitchcock's "To Catch a Thief". This disc is already great looking, but I have never seen it look like this. Wow...it is evident that, although most BD players look excellent, it IS possible to bring it up a notch. This is just an arbitrary rating with no basis in objective metrics, but I have a really good eye, and I will say with confidence that this player will make your Blu-rays look about 20% better; remember, all Blu-ray players look "good", so this is really sayin' something. I then popped in "North By Northwest"----stunning. "The Ten Commandments" looks so good, it got me reading my Bible again. So, I will say that videophiles will love this machine.

I l-o-o-o-v-e music. The cd playback is the most important aspect to my satisfaction with this deck. My taste is eclectic. I love reggae/ska, classical (Bach fanatic), punk rock and have a lot of new wave cds (hey...I'm in my thirties man). This player plays everything good. With reggae the sound is tight with fast base (not too fast though); there is nice punch to the base. The sound is smooth, but dynamic. Dynamic range is very important to the audiophile...this aint no 'run of the mill' dvd player here, this deck is good...really good. All of Bach's cello suites sound fantastic--good enough for any audio snob. This player has very good punch and attack (the leading edges of notes). I have B &W speakers and a good, clean HK amp, so I am able to extract the goodness from this player. I tested the dynamic range (which rates at a respectable 105db) of this deck by playing "Seed" by Sublime, "Beverly Hills" by Weezer and "Darkness" by Black Uhuru. She is dynamic. As you may know, the biggest appeal of SACD's is the dynamic range. Although this deck does not play SACD's, she is good and dynamic. Highs are top notch, mids are tight and composed and the base is deep and punchy. The sound is neat and dynamic...not sloppy at all. Classical will sound classy, punk will sound, uh, punk-y, reggae will sound exceptionally IRIE and and you will certainly be able to 'rock out' with any hard rock stuff you choose to play--as long as you have good speakers and a good, clean amp or receiver. For a $350 (or less) deck, you will not be able to do better with movies and music--period. You will find yourself breaking out all of your favorite cds. If you are reading this, you probably know that you should use analog cables to listen to cds...just checkin'...all the kids now are listening to compressed music--I only do that on the go.

How does she stream...is the wi-fi any good? I recently upgraded from the Panasonic dmp-bdt320. This player (the 500) is better with movies and MUCH better with cds. But, she broke my heart a bit with the wi-fi. I really like to listen to Pandora. This player sounds great with Pandora, especially when you activate "high clarity sound" and have it in "digital tube" mode (number 5...you'll see). Pandora (or other digital files) will sound like nectar if you use the previously mentioned enhancements. Just make sure you use no sound enhancements when you are listening to cds via analog inputs. I always make sure sound enhancements are turned off when I listen to cds--it makes a huge difference...just let the sweet Burr-Brown DAC's do their thing.

The wi-fi on the 320 is better than the wi-fi on the 500. This player is more inconsistent with wi-fi, especially Pandora. After a few songs, I keep getting an Error message "-6". It just bugs me. I do not have the patience to dance around with some Panasonic customer service rep on the phone! The 320 streamed Pandora for hours without issues. Perhaps it has to do with the placement of the wi-fi unit inside of the component itself--I don't know. But, the fidelity of the Blu-ray and CD playback is good enough to temper my aggravation with the quirky wi-fi in the 500. I guess you cannot have it all for $350.

CONCLUSION

If CD playback is very important to you, this player will please you. If a top-notch Blu-ray image is what you are after, buy this deck. If you want a fantastic wi-fi streamer, and do not care about CD playback as much (some do not) then the dmp-bdt320 is all you will need. It has a fantastic Blu-ray image and is a very good wi-fi player..cd playback is just adequate--not audiophile caliber, because the dynamic range is not as good as the 500. But, if you want an audiophile caliber CD player, a videophile caliber Blu-ray player and do not care about wi-fi as much, the dmp-bdt500 will 'blow your hair back". You can always get a separate unit for wi-fi and many people have it built into their tvs. For the low price, the audiophile on a budget could do no better, especially if s/he does not have a SACD collection and does not want to start one.

One simple comment: A couple of months ago I ordered the Oppo 93 & 95 and I returned them to the seller. These players got great picture but the sound quality, contrary to many hyped reviews, is not worth the money. They just sound cold to me (I already use tube amplifications). But with the Panasonic I found the picture is just as great. More importantly, it sounds better than the two Oppo. Inner details, micro-dynamics, musicality, all are there for you. I am writing as a 20 years audiophile. I use Audio Note Amp., Conrad Johnson preamp., and JBL speakers. The Panasonic is a great product for the audiophile. Buy it. It's actually cheap by comparison. The Panasonic team deserves congratulations!

I received this from Amazon on Friday, and set it up on Friday evening. This was ordered to replaced a unit that was a couple of years old and cost $150 less. The old player was working OK but I was intrigued by the specs and hype for this player. I have a decent surround sound system (Polk top-of-the-line speakers) and a plasma TV (Samsung). The video: I have my TV set to Movie mode and with this player the video really does look like movie mode (at least more than the old player), I turned off the Chroma Process on the BDT500 because of way too much color saturation, and still had to re-adjust the plasma TV just a little lower (not much) for both color and contrast, and now the picture is great, better color than the old player and darker blacks, and great detail. The audio: I'm using the HDMI Sub feed to my receiver, and the sound took some tinkering too, I tried the sound effects but didn't really like the "tube amp" sounds, so they're turned off, I also turned off the analog sound circuit. I turned on High Clarity Sound which seemed to reduce the strength of the center channel a little, so I turned on the Dialog Enhancer, which increased the center channel a little bit too much (but more is better than not enough if you want to hear the voices). My speakers were balanced by the Audyssey feature of the reciever, and I didn't want to mess with it, but I decided to increase all the speakers by 1 db (except the center). It worked OK because this is the best sound I've gotten from my system so far. The only thing I'm having trouble with is the touch screen on the remote makes me crazy sometimes (frustration), maybe time will help. This player allows so many adjustments to the video and sound that most people should find something preferable. I'm glad I ordered it and I think it's worth the cost. My home theater is improved.

I have this player since June 2012, updated the firmware the first time it was hooked-up, and replaced my old Sony blu-ray which is a good player. Quite happy with everything, pictures clarity, sound, playing blu-ray movies, etc. except the WIRELESS STREAMING. It will just disconnect while watching either Netflix or Amazon movies and won't reconnect again until you reboot the player. Sometimes this will happen twice before finishing one movie. I know it's not my router because I have a decent new router Linksys EA4500 with updated firmware, it is not far enough to disconnect because if it is connected it is showing 5 bars. Also my other wirelss stuff (iPhone, Ipad, laptop) are always connected without any problems on the same spot, and my old Sony Blu-ray BDP S570 did not have this kind of problem. I have read different reviews with this same problem as mine. PANASONIC SHOULD DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. I never write a review until now, since this is quite annoying for a defective product coming from a reputable company and nothing is being done about it inspite of so many complaints.

This review is to clarify why you would want this unit over other models. It is not entirely clear from Panasonic or some tech reviews. It is not a player for universal downloaded formats, it is a near audiofool unit at a consumer friendly electronics price.

I was shopping for 3D BD player with dual HDMI output for future use and analog surround out for immediate use. Few models caught my attention, as few are available. This model is 2-5X cheaper (based on Amzon July '12 promotions) than other well reviewed options. This unit is considered reference on BD and excellent on DVD playback by industry review, and on new VT50 TV I would agree. However this is not an accomplishment any more as models less expensive have the same rating. Infact, that is the purpose of digital media. What does spending 4-20X more money get you? Maybe less with more gimmick features.

But the real reason to get this model is this unit is equipped with four independent 192kHz/32-bit Burr-Brown DACs for 7.1 channel sound on analog outs. While inexpensive parts they are only seen on high end avrs. It also has separate sound and video HDMI options for legacy AVR without HDMI 1.4 pass through. It can easily down mix to 5.1 for older AVRs. I have legacy Marantz SR6200 (6.1). While you lose 'mostly useless' functionality of on board decoders going with analog outs on avr's, most of those features are not present on legacy systems anyway.

There is a TREMENDOUS difference between online streaming over optical out and HD playback such as VuDu HDX with 7.1 dolby digital decoded to analog ports. I got several unpromted responses. (I was not fishing for compliments.) There could be many technical reasons aside from signal source, but I am please with result. Sadly I feel like I never got much out of Marantz SR6200 until I just now bypassed preprocessor. Yes it is that good!!

A few other notes about WiFi reported drop out. Used with an amp it is VERY important to keep this player cool. Amps have much higher tolerances for heat than this or similar units. It will last much longer away from amps. I am sure this is the case with a portion on the returns, but not all.

I would not consider this if you are looking for a true universal streaming media player. WD Live might be one option. That feature does not interest me much though. Smart TV is limited and likely to stay that way. I am a fan of the new TuneIn app here though. Try it and you might be too.

SWANN SW332-FC1 Siamese Coaxial and Power Fire-Rated Cable-100 ft

I bought these last summer when we were building a new house and I was pre-wiring it for security cameras, home automation, home entertainment. When I cooked the security cameras up to these a few months later, they worked fine.

When we installed our security system, it was really had to find cable that was rated for in-wall installation. We need a long length to go to our barn and this one worked great! This cable provided excellent reception, camera quality good both day and night and it worked great with our Swann security system (see my other review on that). The system came with cable but we need more. We figured that this cable was made by the same company that made our system so all the connectors would fit and they did. This is the only one we could find that is fire-rated for putting inside walls. Works great at long distance without any disruption or distortion. Happy with it!

Irecord Personal Media Recorder

If you are like me and looking for something that will do like a computer, but skip messing with the computer this item is not the one. It down loads fast, but your album info shows Unknown Artist, then "iRecord,(the)date(recorded),(then the)time". If you click on that info the album starts playing NO song list at all. If you don't have a record of what album was loaded at what time you will never know what you are playing. If you are looking for a specific song it will be very time consumning to find it! I looked for more info on how this iRecord worked and what it actually did before I bought and could not find anything on it and took a chance knowing it might not be what I wanted. So I am just writing off the cost but please beware of how little it does! It's going to be a garage sale item now!

I have owned two units of this for the past five years and I'm still recording TV show on my Apple I-Pod classic that Amazon sells. I don't do any other fancy things with this. Beats programing the computer and transfering to I-Tunes, them onto the I-Pod. Hook up to the VHS machine via RCA cable. Just turn on the VHSwon't record with the VHS off, select channel on VHS machine, turn on I-Record by pressing the on button until the light changes from red to amber, Plug-in I-Pod, wait until the blinking green light on the I-Record changes to a steady green light. Then push the record button. The other only button is for the power with its own red light. Keep on pressing the record button until the green light changes to a blinking red light, then release. Records in blocks of three hours with a few seconds of no recording and resuming recording again. I start my recording on the hour while the ads are playing instead of the interupting the show itself. To stop recording, just press the same recording button until it turn green. Wait until the I-Pod screen show the prompts that says OK the disconnect. If you pull before that, the entire block will be deleted leaving only the privious blocks avaiable the watch. Can fast forward to skip the ads on the I-Pod. Should I be saying that part? I have two I-Pods so when I use one, the other can be recording. Passes time on my bus commute and waiting at the doctor's office, etc...Have fun! Oh yeh, it also grabs the shows of the VHS tape and DVDs from the VHS/DVD machine. Now Have Some Fun! Would buy it again, but mine is still going strong! Don't forget to buy a small card size UBS battery with a docking cable from Amazon to extend the three hour I-Pod battery life.

I had seen this advertised in a SkyMall magazine on a flight and got really excited about it. So I bought it from eBay.

I wanted to use it to record episodes of TV shows I owned onto my ipod.

Well... First, to start recording you have to time it just right so that when you hit the record button, there is a lag of about 4-5 seconds.

Second, you might not be able to watch and record simultaneously with the supplied cords, which makes recording total guesswork.

Third, this device does not list any information about the recording, simply: "iRecord, (date recorded),(the time)". So you'll never know what you are watching or listening to prior to choosing it.

But thats not the worst...

THE AUDIO is completely unusable with this device. An episode of say, Star Trek TNG, spiked uncontrollably the entire time. I made multiple attempts of different episodes, and the same issue persisted.

I guess if you don't care about the integrity of the audio, it's nice to simply record a show or DVD/Blu-Ray onto your ipod, but I'm sure there are better, less expensive ways to do it. Even iTunes would be cheaper!!

Sony Portable CD Player w/ Car Kit (D-EJ626CK)

This SONY model does exactly what it advertises. It only plays CDs, but it plays them very well. It plays CD-RW discs without any problems. It provides good quality anti-skip protection during movement/workouts. The CD player has taken reasonably tough punishment and continues to operate with high quality. I have used it at the gym for more than 40 hours of play and on mulitple plane rides across the country, and have been very happy I made the purchase of this unit. As a bonus, the headphones fit one of the major airline's audio jacks and allowed me listen free to two movie showings.

Areas for improvement for some will include that the battery life does not quite appear to be the 34-36 hours the manufacturer suggests. I have changed the batteries a couple of times, and it seems more like 24-26 hours of battery life. Also, there are benefits and negatives from the foam-padded, larger earpiece earphones. They rest softly and nicely on the ears, but are not flexible enough to shape around your head for maximum sound quality. I usually need to tilt them back for best sound enjoyment.

Overall, this is a quality unit at an affordable price. Most accurately rated at 4.55 out of 5.00 stars, rounded up to 5.00 stars. I am getting my money's worth and I know what to look for when this one wears out and I want to upgrade or change technology.

i've had this for over a week and it is awesome! it's g-protection system never skips, i've tried everything to make it skip but it's just impossible! the headset sounds excellent but not so good looking... but for a price like this it's excellent. the car adaptor sounds great, very handy for use in a car.

i would recommend this buy for anyone out there looking for a good cd player. two thumbs up!

This is an amazing CD player with great sound and reliability. I have owned the CD player for over 3 years, in which time I have been much less then gracious to it, it has been dropped more times then I can count. The general audio quality and base are great. I have used a lot of CD players from Sony and other manufacturers, this is the best I have used so far.

I have had a camera like this. During a traffic stop, I can not zoom in on the license plate. Night vision is very blurred, and makes the streets look wet when bone dry. Daylight is OK, but limited.

TechTonic Portable Alarm Clock Spy Camera DVR with Motion Detection

Don't buy this product, it is not worth the money. The light stays on while filming and if you have to film using a hidden alarm clock camera, then that's your issue. I threw mine away and will never buy anything like this again.

Great camera for the price! I was really surprised at the resolution and clarity. The down side... it tends to lose battery power quickly and has to be charged frequently.

only complaint was no where in any of the inclosed instructions was the manufactures name, thus was unable to use with my harmony remote. It does work quite well with the remote that came with it.

I bought a unit from GO Video and experienced horrors with their customer service as mentioned in other reviews.

My unit came without any of the accessories and after 6 weeks of talking to more than a half dozen people (with more runaround than you can even begin to imagine) at go video, I still have a unit that will not work.

Very reliable, great image quality, works fantastic and plays both PAL and NTSC. Never a single problem with it, had it for years. Remote control has subtitles button for multiple languages. Extremely satisfied by this product.

I had suspicions the quality would be poor and grainy, but I was very pleased once I got it plugged in and running.

The quality is very good, and it has all kinds of neat features. You can set it to detect and record motion with or without the green light on for up to fifteen minutes. It has a follow face option which will track your motion to ensure the other person sees you even if you get up and move around, which can be set on and off. Right light ensures great quality even in darker rooms. My only complaint is that the adjustable tabs to keep it atop the screen are a little goofy. I struggle to keep it on top of my laptop screen sometimes, but that issue seems to common with all web cams.

I suggest it to anyone looking for a great web cam at a good price.

I bought this webcam after struggling for months on what model to purchase. Very pleasently surprised! Not only was this one of the cheaper models in cost, but it was super easy to install and worked excellently right out of the box. I used Skype on a high frame rate setting and it was all too easy and a great video call. Definitely the right camera for simple broadband video calls.

Note: the quality of of the .wmv format video this camera captures is MUCH higher than what this video review can depict. I had to use a lower resolution/lower quality setting in order to keep the output video file under Amazon's size limit. That and this site's own reformatting mean the full HD output can't be easily shown in a video review here.

The Logitech C270 webcam offers users easy-to-use HD capability at a very reasonable price. If it's time to replace an aging webcam or upgrade from the typically low resolution hardware integrated into many laptops, this is an excellent choice at this price.

Installation presented a small issue. Upon loading the software on the install CD (version 2.1, on a Windows 7 64-bit laptop), the language option failed to show language choices. Instead instead it showed strings of numbers. A visit to the Logitech website offered the updated version (version 2.3), which then offered a correct language option dropdown and then installed successfully. If you go online for the updated version, you'll have to choose between the "full" download (132 MB) and the "smart" download options (6 MB). I'm not sure what the difference is; I chose full, but your connection speed will probably drive your decision.

The system software loaded in approximately five minutes, and offered an optional install of Logitech's proprietary video chat application (which I declined). The software detected that Skype was already installed on my laptop, and offered an option to launch the webcam controller software with Skype (which I accepted).

I encountered a second issue with the camera software after install. At the beginning of each video recording session, I receive a "no microphone detected" warning...even though the microphone is appearing in Windows AND recording audio. If you get a similar warning, You'll figure out quickly enough that it can be ignored.

The camera software offers immediate sharing options for sharing via Youtube and Facebook. In addition to real-time video conferencing, it will record video (.wmv format) and take still photos.

The install bug was a one time annoyance, the erroneous microphone detection area is persistent (and the pop-up can be canceled).

The camera works well in low light, and has software-driven "face-follow" and "motion detection" modes whose overall utility escapes me, but may be useful to more powerful users. It also has software-driven zoom controls.

High def video for less than forty bucks. Even with some software annoyances, it's hard to go wrong at this price.

The price point for this camera really makes it a great product. To begin, the set-up was quick and easy, and the software installation was incredibly simple. Altogether it took no more than five minutes to have the camera fully set-up and installed. Although the camera only balances on top of the monitor, it has rubber grips that keep it steady and there is no fear of it falling off. The camera pivots so it is easy to move into different positions. The quality of the video and sound is excellent; everything is crisp and clear. It automatically worked with my Skype account, and after a few weeks of use I have yet to encounter any difficulties. I would definitely recommend this product at the price point Logitech has put it up for. Additionally, Logitech's customer service is excellent, I've had problems in the past and they did their best to provide me with second to none customer service.

This did work plug-and play right out of the box. Although, the thing forced an install of the Logitech software (not just drivers but that typical crapware every device installs).

There is software to make computer to computer calls but if you have Skype or use Google Hangout you don't need it. I think the other person has to have the same software,

The picture quality is good, just good. Sure it's 720p, and it has some optimization features, but I don't notice much of an improvement over my buit-in webcam.

My least favorite feature is the stand/laptop attachment. As a stand it works fine, but it is very loose when you want to stick it on your laptop. It will fall right off if jostled.

I recently upgraded the movie projector in my theater room in my home to include 3-D movies and programming. I was provided two pairs of 3-D glasses with the upgrade. I needed an additional three pairs to accommodate my family. I purchased the additonal three pairs of 3-D glasses. I am very satisfied with the glasses. They were exactly like the ones I had received with the Sony projector.

I purchased the Samsung HMX-W200 camera to take better video than my cell phone of my 2yr old son. I needed something small, rugged, and quick to turn on so as not to miss anything, and light enough to carry in a pocket with me most of the time.

So far this is a great little video camera. I took several video's with it, and they turned out great. A few things to note though. It uses a Micro SD, or Micro SDHC size card for storage, which you have to purchase separately. It will record 4 hours at 720 or 2 hours at 1080 on a 16GB card. One of the reviews I read on a marketing site said that you could adjust the frame rate, if you can, I have not found out how. The menu gives only 2 options 1080 and 720, both at 30fps. It only takes 1.5 seconds from when you press the power button, to being able to shoot video. When you plug the camera into your computer, it sets itself up as 2 drives, one with the data, and the other with the intelli-studio Light software. I found this to be very easy to use to do basic editing, cutting out little parts of the video that I did not want, etc... I also love the feature that allows me to pause the recording and then start it again without creating a separate file.

VIDEO:

The 1080p looks great. It also looked great on my 50in. HDTV. For the price this camcorder is well worth it. Everything Samsung claims about this camcorder is true. I have been using it for a month now. So far so good. However I have not even thought about putting it in water. But I have used it in the rain and it still worked great.

PHOTOS:

I only give the 4 stars because there is no timer for taking pictures. It's not a big deal when I'm shooting video. But I do like they way photos look on this thing. It requires the most steady hand in the world. I have used a tripod and it helps a little. I just wish I could set a timer to guarantee a still shot. The camera impressively utilizes all natural light. I understand the selling point for this camera is the 1080p video, but I don't always want to carry both my Canon EOS and my Samsung HMX when attending a public event.

OVERALL:

If you're in the market for a pocket camcorder go with this one and not the Flip. It is rugged, waterproof, and ready to record 2 seconds after you turn it on.

Okay, so first off, it's almost impossible to find a perfect pocket cam, price-wise and quality-wise. I did rigorous amounts of research to find that all of them have their share of problems.

All scenes were shot in 1080p/30fps handheld, with Anti-Shake On. The other two options that the camera has, Face Detection and Back Light were off. The underwater shot could've been better but it's winter here and a bucket of water is the best I could do for the time being. I imagine with greater lighting and the camcorder being further away from the subject, the results will be better.

Overall I would rate the camera 3/5. Video is pretty good and it takes decent pictures as well with it's 5mp camera. The underwater mode is really cool, it allows me to really play around with some shots. It is also shockproof which extends my experimentation. I had a problems with some of it's hardware/software, for example, you press record and sometimes it takes a while for it to start/stop recording. Or when you think you press the record button and you don't. It records on an mp4 format but for some reason it has issues in Final Cut Pro. I am still an amateur at FCP but here are some the problems I have with it:

Can't Log and Transfer (SD adapter maybe?)

Sequence Playback (stops numerous times in between clips, hadn't had this problem until now)

Never Before Seen Error Messages (causes FCP to crash! Doesn't go away until I cut the clips)

Some stuff I didn't discuss in the video: The LCD screen is amazing, but some stuff that I capture, which is clearly visible on the screen, isn't when I watch it on my computer screen. Does that mean that my computer screen isn't as nice as the camera screen? Perhaps. Also, I've had a couple moments where the screen flickers and gets dim, and doesn't go back to its normal brightness until I hit a button. Also, the microphone on the camera is surprisingly good. However, it gives you little wiggle room to move your hands while holding the camera, as any movement (rubbing fingers, bumping) will cause high audio surges.

So in closing, overall video quality of the camera is good. Good not great, but come one, for what it is, what are you expecting? Like any video camera, better lighting equals better results. Microphone is really good. Pictures are fairly good, but not good at taking pictures while moving, easily blurs. So far, it seems like it's well-built, no problems aside from the flickering of the screen, which has only happened twice. The main problem, like I've said, is of the footage in post. I have tried using a 7200 rpm drive, and still I'm having issues.

I purchased this Samsung HMX-W200 to use on our Caribbean cruise. I really like the waterproof feature and used it a lot. It takes pretty good pictures, but my Cannon PowerShot takes MUCH better pictures. As for the "Full HD" capabilities... this is where I was the most disappointed. In bright light with very little action, it does do a pretty good job at HD. However, if there is a lot of movement in the shot (like splashing water or when using in a moving vehicle or boat), the resolution is pretty poor. I wouldn't even call it HD, let alone 1080p as advertised. If it weren't for the waterproof feature, I would be looking to return it. But I will probably still get a good amount of use out of it since my family is involved in lots of activities in or near water. So in summary, I would have to say I'm pretty disappointed in this camera, but still find that it will serve a purpose.

I bought this after a very bad experience with a JVC Picsio (otherwise known as garbage). It comes on quickly, records very good quality (grainy in low light conditions, but that's expected) video and stores very easily for quick access for those little moments you want to capture. It's easy to unload the video, easy to edit and easy to own. Got this for my wife who HATES overly complicated devices, which this is not. I think that if your looking for something that is really waterproof, rugged and still takes high quality video, then buy this and you wont be disappointed.

This is almost exactly the product they use at Build-A-Bear which is just what I needed. I had ordered my son a Nemo plush for Christmas and wanted to record his dad's voice, who is deployed, onto it and put it in the Nemo doll so he could hear him when he hugs it. It was super easy to use and even though the message I recorded was playback from my phone (my husband had sent me a voicemail recording) it sounded just as good as when you do a recording in the store at Build-A-Bear. You just have to keep in mind that when you put it in the "Lock" position you HAVE to tape it place with scotch tape or something stronger because it is super easy for it slip out of the "Lock" position and you don't want your message erased. It's a great product though and I was so excited to find it (also cheaper than buying one from B-A-B...)
